Great park! Came here to camp for the weekend - stayed at the campground with some friends. Great camp site with lots of trees great for coverage from morning sun. Different set up for some sites since there's nothing between to separate out the sites. There's an easy to follow path to get to the beach we went to a couple times. LOTS of beach to wander on. Be aware of people driving around if you have your pups. read more

We stayed here in Loop 1 site 22 for 4 nights. Nice big camping site. Enough room for 3 tents, our pop up canopy and a place for our propane fire pit and camp chairs. It does have a slight uneven onto the ground but we found places for the tents just fine. Beautiful campground. Tons of trees and nature. We took a drive through all 4 loops to stakeout more sites to try later. The staff were kind and knowledgeable. Found a nice hiking trail over by the front office booth. Also took the hiking trail to the ocean. The bathrooms we clean and tended to daily. There are 4 showers and 6 bathrooms. We will definitely be camping here again. read more

Sand and nature for days!!!! It feels pretty isolated out here, but in a gorgeous way. Being so close to the ocean was a treat and we saw so many unique birds, had fun walking along the rocks, and had a relaxing time renting a house in the area for a weekend. There's not many options for food, so bring snacks! read more

I can't speak for the entire park, only for loop 4, but my first impression was that the spaces were very, very small, with very little privacy. We happened to have reserved one of the larger spaces since we had both a pop up and a traditional tent. If you have read other reviews regarding mud, I will tell you now: There's a mud problem if it has rained in the last week or two before you arrive---not to mention if it rains while you're there. Our site was a mud pit and unfortunately, we had 5 dogs with us...I'm sure you can understand the impending doom we felt. It was a messy stay, with an amazing amount of mosquito bites, but the stay was, despite everything, a decent stay. The beach is a 5-minute hike on a dirt trail before you get to the sand. The beach was clean but very busy, with cars and horses all over the place, but still a nice place to take our dogs to splash around in the ocean (and get a bit cleaner in the process). The bathrooms made the stay SO much easier. They are really nice bathrooms (considering some of the other parks I've stayed at) that are private (no stalls), and for loop 4 anyway, consisted of 3 showers and 5 private bathrooms. The floors of the bathrooms got muddy fairly fast, but given the overall muddiness of the camp, it was to be expected. Otherwise, the bathrooms and showers were kept clean, though not always equipped with hand soap, so you may want to bring your own! read more

We really enjoyed a night at a group campsite. Great site. Large covered area with numerous picnic tables. Numerous places for tents. Several fire pits so we could split into smaller groups. Our kids loved exploring the trees. Plenty of parking. Private bathroom for our group. Short walk to the beach. We had our youngest in an umbrella stroller which has seen better days but the path was fine. A bit muddy in some places. The beach itself was nice but there were a lot of cars on the sand which was a bit unnerving for us as parents. We saw a group horseback riding and plenty of people flying kites. We overall liked the park, its close to the beach and has 4 loops. Most sites are small-ish and pretty open, so privacy is lacking in many sites. We had the pleasure of a great deal of rain, so some sites (in the wooded areas), were partial mud pits. This isn't the state parks fault, you can't change the weather, but some sites would really benefit of some drainage or maybe less grass where the cars park and more gravel? Loop 1 & 4 have awesome nice new bath houses (in case that is important to you), so we walked over to shower there. I think overall, if you come in the drier summer season a tent is fine, but I wouldn't do that during spring,fall or winter. read more

This review is for day-use only - we didn't camp here. While staying in Ocean Shores hubby and I were looking for new places to hike. We thought that there would be lots of trails in the dunes but were mislead by some reviews. There was a short path through some vegetation to the sand. We had to pay $10 to get in and then realized that we could have walked to this part of the beach from down the road - for free! I even had to ask the park ranger for a map. I think it would have been nice (and more honest) for the ranger to let you know that you aren't going to get much for your $10 fee. read more

We camped here over Labor day weekend. Our sites were small, but that was ok as it was a last minute reservation and we were just happy to get something. We had spots 65 and 69. The first day was great, nice weather, not very many people. They have a guy drive thru the park each night selling ice and firewood which was nice. The bathrooms were old, but clean. No soap in the sinks, but we had our own. The second night was a less than great. It rained, a lot. I have lived in Washington all of my life and am not afraid of camping in the rain. In fact I usually expect it, and am prepared. What we woke up to I don't think anybody could be prepared for. There was 8-10 inches of standing water in our campsite. The firepit was under water, our firewood was floating, so were our tents and dry boxes. We had no choice but to pack up and go home. We took a walk thru the rest of the park before leaving and saw many others in our same situation. I realize the Washington State Parks Dept has no control over the weather. I would think they could at least warn campers that the site they are reserving has no drainage and will flood if it rains though. The rangers refunded us for the night we didn't use, but wouldn't budge on giving us anything back for the night that the monsoon moved in. In fact, the ranger was a bit of a smart ass and told us that people "go camping to experience nature and play in the puddles", and "too bad your things got wet, dryers work wonders". I wouldn't recommend staying here to anyone unless maybe you had an rv. read more

This campground, like so many in Washington, suffers from a lack of funding. Sites could be better drained, but they do keep the place clean. It gets 4 stars for the short, wooded walk to the ocean and proximity to Ocean Shores. Just a long walk down the beach or a very short drive away. It's cleaner and less crowded on the beach by the park, though right after the 4th of July, when we went, the place is absolutely littered with blown up fireworks and discarded beer cans. So go do a little stargazing at night like we did so you can't see the litter. And really, hunting sand dollars by flashlight is a lot more fun and challenging. And if you go to see the sunset, put on LOTS of mosquito repellant. Or wait for a bat to come along and eat them. It might also fly into your hair, like it did me, but it's all in good fun. Really, the only thing to do here is go to the beach or go to town. Horseback riding is very close. Ocean Shores is the reason to stay here. There are more pristine places farther north along the coast. read more

This is actually a 3.5 stars.. While there is a bit of traffic it is still a beautiful beach. There is a little congestion near the entrance/exit and what really makes it bad is when some idiot thinks they will pave a new path out and gets stuck in deep sand. Once you get in you can drive for what seems like miles in either direction. I didn't feel like the vehicles posed any really distraction. The beach is clean and beautiful. You won't find shells, crabs, or other forms of ocean life washed up on the beach like some other beaches in the area. The water is freezing! I saw some people swimming in late May. The beach is also very cold because of the wind. There are tons of people flying kites here so it's perfect for that. We found a parking place and then took our chairs and parked next to the water with books. After ten minutes I ran back to the car to grab all towels and every article of clothing I could find. While it was 88 when we left Seattle my car was saying 63 when we got to the beach. We wrapped ourselves in towels and shirts and we tried to enjoy the lovely view but clearly we were totally unprepared. I would definitely visit again but next time with hats, blankets and layers of clothing. read more

Ocean City Campground has become a yearly tradition for our growing family. This year being our 3rd visit, I had to knock down a star. I'm sure it's not Park staffs wishes to be short handed, but it sure makes it difficult for those staying at the campground. We showed up to our reserved (online) site this year to find another group overflowing into our spot. Tents and tent strings by our fire pit and table. We didn't want confrontation so we decided to find a new spot. However with no staff on site. We relied on the posted taken sheet up front. Thank goodness it all worked out. And we found a nice large private spot for us for our 3 days camp. We love the facilities . And we think ocean city overall is fabulous. read more

Well this might just be because of the time of year. We reserved a full hookup site the first weekend in March. It was very wet!!! Lots of sites completely underwater, I'm talking inches to up to a foot of water. We considered us lucky. Just some big water puddles and MUD! We wont be coming here again. Maybe later in the year it gets better? But could only think if it's that wet then when it does dry out the mosquitos might be in great numbers. read more

I love the Ocean. We drove for 2 hours just to spend 30 minutes playing in the sand and smelling the sea water. I enjoy spending time with the kids. In a few weeks we'll be back to fly kites and have a bbq lunch. This time of year its so nice, there's miles of empty beach front. I hate the summer crowds, cars everywhere, devouring the fantastic views. Winter and early spring you only share the Ocean with a handful of people, plus if you stay at Hotels you save major coin. read more

Spent two nights here. Overall facilities are well maintained and clean. A little cramped between sites. Shower and bathroom facility seems updated. Both are combined for ADA use and non-ADA, so showers and bathrooms are large. Bathrooms DO NOT have hand soap so make sure you take your own or hand sanitizer. Showers work on tokens (.25 per token) one token will get you 3 minutes; it's amazing how fast you'll shower knowing you're on a timer. Shower floor is usually muddy due to dirt being brought in on shoes so wear shower shoes. Quick walk to beach access close enough to hear the ocean. read more

This is a nice park. We enjoyed our time there over spring break 2018. It rained, but we came prepared. A few tarps and we were good. When it rained for too long, we drove on the beach and watched the birds. The park keepers could put down some rock to level out the low spots within the campsite. We just got back from here, the camp ground has a lot of potential and is very nice, and kept pretty nice. I can only speak for loop 4, site 161, do not stay here if it has rained within 2 weeks or is due to rain! It was an absolute mud hole! You couldn't walk anywhere without getting sucked into mud. I'm glad we had our muck boots, but even so, it was miserable. The bathroom is kept clean, but make sure to bring your own TP as there was never any there the two days we were! And if you want to shower, it takes 2 tokens for 3 minutes, and you have to get the tokens from the check-in desk, who happens to never or very rarely be there! And there is only 1 shower! Nice walk to the beach, but no markers for returning when it's dark! Glad I had my GPS or we would have been lost! I think summer camping here would be great! read more

I went camping here last month with my boyfriend and his daughter. I've been to Ocean Shores plenty of times, but only camped once and it was on someone's personal property. So this visit to Ocean City State Park was my first. And we had a great time! We made reservations ahead of time, since campgrounds get super busy during the summer. Even though each of the campsites are quite close together, we got a pretty awesome spot. When I reserved it, I tried to use the map to find the one that had the most extra space around it. This turned out to be smart. Our area was very forested and you couldn't really see the other nearby sites without looking hard. You could hear other groups, but it wasn't too bad. If you are looking for privacy, make sure you do that. Sites on corners of the loop seemed to have more space than those on straightaways. The campground itself is HUGE, but there are different loops that are separated from each other, as well as areas for trailer camping and RVs. There is a short trail from the campground to the beach, which makes seeing the ocean very easy and accessible. We walked back and forth from the beach many times - once even in the dark (shh, the park is closed after dusk!). There is also a great nature trail right after you turn into the park but before you get to the Ocean City State Park sign. I found it by accident, as I was taking a walk to check out the lakes(?) near the entrance. It is well maintained and the path has signs along it, pointing out various names of plants and trees. FYI 1: The showers in the restrooms need tokens, which you can get from the ranger station. Not sure how much they cost as, lucky for us, someone left their extra tokens in the shower and we got them for free! FYI 2: You do NOT need a Discovery Pass if you are camping overnight. You just need one if you are visiting the park during the day. I would definitely stay in this campground again and I recommend it if you are headed towards the coast! read more

Although not exactly a "wilderness" experience, the campground at Ocean City State Park does make for a convenient place to stay while visiting the Ocean Shores area of the coast-- particularly during razor clam season, when there are still campsites available due to the cold early season weather. The location of this park is great: there's an easy walking trail through the dunes to the beach, and it's just a few minutes' drive to the City of Ocean Shores (the Quinault Casino is even closer). When the beach is open to clamming, it's a really sweet setup to be able to walk out to the surf, dig the clams, then return to camp to clean and cook them. Gear, licenses, and camping supplies are easy to get in town. I was afraid that any camping area this close to the beach would be really cold and windy in the winter, but the campground is sheltered by dunes, shrubs, and trees so it was actually quite pleasant. We lucked out with the weather, too, and had a great time here. Note: though firewood is available by the bundle ($6) at the ranger station, the wood we got there wasn't seasoned properly and did not burn well. We found some good, dry wood at the hardware store in town (cheaper, too!). read more

A very nice state park with good access to the beach and town. There's potable water all over the place, running water and flush toilets in the bathrooms, and an Ice & Wood truck that makes the rounds morning and night, helping thirsty/cold campers get their situation together with maximum convenience (and at the same prices you'd pay for ice & wood from vendors outside the park too, which came as a pleasant surprise to us). FYI: The bathrooms are NOT token-operated. The hot-water shower IS token-operated. read more

This state park is conveniently located off SR 115. Minutes (drive) to Ocean Shores and a short walk (maybe about 5-10 minutes...depending on how short you are) to the ocean. The Park Rangers were among the nicest I have ever met. They were friendly, helpful and just about as nice as one could be! The spots are close together but it works out well if you're camping with others. We were in the only loop that didn't have showers but the next closest loop wasn't too far away. The showers take state park tokens only, which can be purchased at the main office. There's a clearly marked sign as you check-in that these tokens are needed. There was a truck that went around maybe 2x in the evening (and not too close together) that had a bell or ding noise to let you know that you could purchase firewood or ice...it was actually really thoughtful...I thought. The bathrooms were one area of concern for me but I understand that you're camping and "roughing it" for a few days. They didn't have soap or hot water and weren't that clean. I was shocked to see several people use the bathroom without wearing shoes...ew to the nth degree. Why the 2 stars? This campground was PACKED the weekend that we went and full of inconsiderate people. Usually, we'll do a smokey tour and folks will say hello, good evening, hi...nada. There were a TON of people that would walk right through our campsite and only one person asked if that would be ok. The location is really convenient but I doubt that I will go back...usually campers are friendly but not the folks I encountered...too bad. Other than the folks at the campground, we had a great time overall. read more

There aren't too many camping options in the area so my friend and I grabbed a spot here. Two camping sections in the park are closed this time of the year so we camped in Section 1, which is closest to the gate. The spots were a bit muddy, but what can you expect in March. We were camping in our cars anyway. The spots are close together as someone had mentioned, but it is forested and not wide open like the other campgrounds in the area. I don't know what it's like in the summer, but it was quiet for us...except for in the morning when some guy decided to sing in the bathroom showers....perhaps not realizing that the whole campground could hear him. The bathrooms are very typical of what you'd expect of a Washington State Park. They seem a bit old and simple, but they're very clean. General campsites are $21/night or $28 if you want utilities. We didn't have a reservation, but there were plenty of spots available this time of the year when we got there around 6pm (campers need to be in by 10pm). You don't need to have a Washington Discovery Pass to camp there; only if you plan to access the park during the day. read more

Having not made reservations for our previously planned camping adventure further inland, we showed up in the middle of the night and were relieved to find a campsite. They were awfully close together, but big enough to set up a couple of tents. We got settled in, then walked to the beach by moonlight, but the fog kept us from getting all the way down to the water. I got up early the next morning and went for a walk on the beach by myself, and while it was very interesting watching people harvest razor clams, there wasn't much else going for the beach. Just broad expanses of sand, that people are apparently allowed to drive on. Overall, nice enough if you just need to get out of town for a night, but not a place I'll plan to go as a destination in itself. read more

Yes, it has easy access to the beach, but be prepared for cool weather. Even in August it was jacket weather. This is the first time we have been here and absolutely loved it! Short jaunt to a empty huge beach that our dogs really loved. Stayed in trailer, plenty of room for RV and tent awning. Only about a mile to Ocean Shores. We will be back. Park closes Oct 31 till May 15 it appears. We went in September 2014 and the weather was beautiful. Nice campground near the ocean. This place is huge. Choose the tent only loop if you want it quiet. The loop closest to the ocean is nice because its only a short walk, but you might hear generators running until late and from early in the morning. I could see this place being damp in the shoulder season. Its pretty low ground. The beach is really cool and just a short walk away. Bathrooms are better than some campgrounds I've been to. read more

For the life of me, I couldn't recommend this state park if you are tent camping. It is absolutely beautiful, it is huge and there are a lot of trees. The problem comes at night and when you wake up in the morning. Since it's in the coast, you get the San Francisco weather during the summer. It tends to be foggy and the temperature remained in the 50's. It is not bad if you're experiencing heat wave in Federal Way. But wait! There's more! We went to bed freezing our toes off. We are literally brining sleeping bags and wearing full clothes. It didn't help. The campground remained misty overnight and there was dew all over. Part of my pillow was wet. My sandals are wet. Our tent was also wet. It didn't rain but it felt like it did. I've also looked at the ground and there are wet spots all over close to the trees and greeneries. This place has a tendency to become swampy during the rainy season. The verdict- great for trailer camping but wouldn't recommend using a tent. Token operated showers (1 token for 3 minutes which you can buy at the gate); a little noisy in the campsites as they are packed in together. Fire rings with grates available; flush toilets; a short hike to the beach. read more

This state park is right near the water. The day use area is the closest and then loop 3 and 4 of the camp grounds are next closest. There are very few paved campground car parking spots, but there are some in the electric spots for RVs. Sadly, this state park doesn't have Summer ranger talks or ranger tours. The rangers booth is open more hours than other state parks though.... so that was good to see. The showers take tokens to prevent theft I guess. Get the tokens and fire wood at the ranger booth. If you like pristine beaches, this is not the state park for you. This beach allows 100's of horses and their poop on the beach every weekend. They also allow cars, trucks, and mopeds up and down the hard sand beach. No rocks for skipping. It is a lovely beach for bicycles though as the sand is hard in most places. The beach waves are usually small and you can wade far out into the water and still touch. I am 5"11' and the waves are not strong at all. The water is on the cold side though except in August. The walk to the beach has lots of different plants and I saw 5 deer on Saturday and 2 small black millipedes on Sunday. I only saw 3 seagulls and about 100 crows at the beach. Only campers are allowed in the park after 10pm. Quiet hours are 10pm to 6:30am. Generators must be shut down at 9pm. Extra car or truck is $10 per night. The exception is a vehicle being towed by an RV. Check in is 2:30pm to 10pm. Check out is 1pm. Maximum 8 people per campsite. Day use area is open 6:30am to dusk in Summer. In Winter, day use is open 8am to dusk. The bathrooms are farther apart at this state park than other state parks in Washington. If you are looking for two small campsites together that are quiet, I suggest sites 90 and 91 as they have a gap between the two. Lastly, the day use area has two covered picnic shelters in case of rain. And you need a Discover pass to use them unless you are camping there. You can buy a Discover Pass at the ranger booth. We made a 2-night reservation online and was happy to see that it was as expected when we arrived. Due to the cooler weather this summer the ground was still a bit soggy, and the mosquito's a tad overwhelming. The beach access was great, and loved that that access road to drive onto the beach was less than 5 minutes away. We packed our van up with all the necessities and spent the entire day out on the sand and in the waves. Very fun. Showers are token operated and super short per token. We had problems with other sites being extremly noisy past quiet hours (10pm) and never saw a ranger making rounds to enforce respectful noise levels. Overall, I have a lovely time and will return. read more

We really wanted to like this campground! Close to the beach, beautiful location. Unfortunately the problem started with our friends site consisting of a pool of standing water and giant roots running all over the place. They had no decent location to put the tent. The next day (Saturday), their was a crew of folks with a back hoe digging the whole site up. Water was turned off and would remain off, they said initially, until the following Wednesday. Thankfully it ended up being only a few hours. Sunday morning was even more joyful with a horrendously loud buzzing alarm going off at 7:10am and waking the entire loop. After recovering from the shock and attempting to rest a few more minutes, the alarm started back up about 20 minutes later. Will not be returning! read more

We were looking for just a little jaunt to the beach and although this is mostly overnight camping we did find a very short hike out to the beach and it was great! We just stayed here this last weekend and it was great! The ocean is a short walk away and close enough you can here the waves at night which I loved! We stayed at campsite 113 and it was tucked into its own little corner with trees and plants surrounding it giving it a lot of privacy and it was near the bathrooms and the trail to the beach. I only gave four stars because the bathrooms were dirty and only half the stalls actually locked, like the rest stop bathrooms you find along the highway. Overall our stay here was really enjoyable! read more

If I could give a zero I would rented 3 sites and reserved a week early not to be told that the camping spots were completely under water I couldn't even hook up septic do to the water had to pull in front wards due to the water and mud there is not a spot in our 3 spots that isn't covered in water had to go to hardware store to buy pallets to walk on so we didn't sink in water and mud forest ranger comes by very rudely tells me even though I already paid in advance that I needed to go to ranger office to check in and fill out paper then proceeded to tell us that those is a rain forest and most spots are under water will on Web site maybe you should mention that before people pay and reserve in advance will never come back to camp here i will go into town and get a spot kids were so bored because only way to get to Ocean is to drive into town because all the trails are flooded out and no way to get there very hard when all you have is a RV only thing that was nice was the shower atleast there was hot water unlike the sinks to wash hands read more

This is the worst park i have ever been to. It floods regularly, also bathrooms are unkempt. Host is a jerk off, park ranger is an a-hole. I had a complaint, nobody cared. No customer service, just no. Just plain no. Would never recommend anyone stay here. Infact i tell all family and friends to avoid this place like the plague.
