Wife bought me a fishing trip for my birthday in June and we boarded the Tornado in July 12th 2026…read more Had an absolute blast fishing, however things started to turn sideways on us and that's the reason for the 3 star. Upon arriving on the boat we had to sign in and get our number for the salmon fishing. When we got to fish for salmon I had caught a 2 keepers and my wife caught a king, one of the fish I caught I had to fight it down the side of the boat with the deckhand helping me, we got it netted and it was a keeper, the fish hit the deck and I got back to my position on the boat, a few minutes later I told the deckhand my number but he gave that fish to someone else for some reason, I was quite confused and couldn't really comprehend this.. I caught another one and the captain was right there, again a keeper, I told the captain my number and he told me that he'll get me... about another .5 hours and we were all catching mackerel or sharks where coming in... at the last drop I caught a nice coho at 22.5" , this is when a deckhand asked me my number I told him... We pulled up lines and headed for rock fishing, at this time a deckhand came by asking for fishing licenses, I have mine electronically and my wife had a day pass... so when the deckhand put down on my wife's and I catch card that we both caught a chinook and a coho I was like oh ok they figured it all out and that was that.. finished the day got back to the dock and they had the fish all packaged and what not... one guy had the same issue as us.. he only got 1 fish even though the catch card showed 2 on his... We got ours and again only 1 fish for both of us even though our catch card explicitly stated 2 fish, when asked about it the deckhand just said "I don't know" and that was that... So the experience was nice, the fishing was bad ass, collecting our fish is where the problem was... 2 deckhands 18 anglers fish all over and people are loosing their catch, gotta figure out a better strategy to make sure that the people who caught fish keeps their fish... so now I have a catch card that shows I caught 2 but was only given 1 at the end.... Not happy with that

The skipper actually dropped the anchor to fish this spot which something that I have not seen on the ocean. We used live bait (anchovies) which kind of surprised me, but it was effective. We used light gear with 10 lb test line which was really a hoot. From there we moved a short distance and fished for flounder. These fish were small, but we were motivated because the flounders were to be the bait for our true target, which was ling cod. After the flounder we moved to another spot in deeper water to fish for ling cod. This spot was in deeper water so we couldn't anchor but the skipper did a great job of keeping us over the fish. We limited out with 2 nice size ling cods per person and a few extras for the crew. The deckhand did a great job keeping us rigged up and baited. He also filleted all the fish for a good price and did a great job. The only downer was my mistake. I like to follow the track of the boat using my phone and a marine map. Apparently, this is a huge no no. They are concerned with people stealing their spots. I totally understood the skippers concern, so I turned off my phone and put it away. As angry as he got, I'd think he would put up a sign or something telling folks that gps tracking is verboten. Or maybe something in the terms and conditions. I would definitely go bottom fishing on this boat again. The skipper has good knowledge and boat skills. If there are bottom fish to be had, he will put you on them.

We didn't get skunked, but only got maybe 5 keepers on a boat of ~19 people. The captain tried hard to find the fish, but it seemed like no boats were doing well that day given the radio conversations I overheard. That's fine it happens. The deckhand was mostly fine if a little brash and impatient for newbie mistakes. Besides the fishing itself there were definitely other things that could be improved. The boat cabin interior was filthy. Dirty and broken sink, left over food, overflowing trash and random crap strewn about. Looked like a frat house. The coffee included for guests was like stale Folgers. There wasn't a good system to store your stuff so it ended getting sat on or kicked around by other people. The captain could not smoke. I mean I'm already breathing diesel exhaust for hours on end, I don't need second hand smoke too. Probably also made sea sickness worse for people who had it.

There are a bunch of charter fishing operations out there. Here's what I'll say about Tommycod:…read more It was a strange morning of turbulent waters (there were a lot of calls on the radio to the coast guard for assistance that morning) and shy fish. Still, in spite of carrying a boat of half seasick passengers who thought they knew best regarding what they wanted (myself of course included)--which was to go home and kiss some land--Captain Tom kept on. We finally found an area where the bottomfish kept biting and magically delivered not only more fish than we needed (though we didn't hit our minimums which.. according to my uncle who's done this before with Tommycod and according to the proud captain.. is unheard of) andddd best of all the sky opened up and the seas settled down. All went home happy, feeling much better, and hungry for fish. Also of note, their max passenger number to 6 which makes for a tight knit bunch and individual attention. Thanks, Capt Tom and Carlo aka Cub!

We received 26 fish combined. Our fish were the only ones delivered whole; the other eight fishermen's fish were loined at sea while underway for Westport. The cannery weighed our 26 fish at 310 pounds in the round. I immediately questioned the Mutineer manager, who said she had watched our fish being evenly divided but admitted she had not seen the loins or their sizes. We were told the captain would be notified and contact me. Forty-eight hours later, neither the captain nor the manager has responded. Based on the size of the overall catch and what we observed, we believe our share was substantially under-delivered. The claimed average of 11 pounds per fish does not appear credible in my experience nor that of any local I talked with. We had tipped the crew appropriately and simply expected our full share of the catch. I am asking Mutineer Charters to explain how our fish were handled and account for the apparent 200 pound discrepancy.
