There's something special about watching a massive screen slowly rise above from the Sydney Harbour - with the Bridge in the background and the sun slowly setting - if you do not find this experience magnificent then I'd consider seeing a psych is I were you. Every time I've attended the screenings i have fallen in love with Sydney. I really do not think you could get a better cinematic experience the this.... Here are some tips if you are planning on heading to the cinemas..... (which you won't get on their website). 1. Get there early - you can't book seats and people can get quite territorial.... and by early I don't mean 10 minutes, i mean an hour. 2. Bring your own food - picnic style... you can buy food at the cinemas but its overly priced and there are really long queues 3. Book early - good movies sell out quickly, so as soon as you hear they've announced their season, get online and BOOK. 4. Bring a variety of different clothes - as you are sitting outside it can get cold and rain 5. Bring your own popcorn - for some reason they don't sell popcorn...and if you need that salty treat, make you you get some before you head down. This is a MUST to do in Sydney - I absolutely LOVE it!!!

The most fancy schmancy, impressive outdoor cinema by far. These guys sell out their tix before any other for a reason. Few things to be aware of, this is literally a cinema with lined seats that just happens to be outdoor so no picnic for you! Get in early and line up to bag your seats, then proceed to the dining area for dinner and drinks before your movie. You can BYO food (there's 4 tables in the corner you can use) but no BYO booze at all. Having said all that, there's a decent selection of good quality food and booze available. They even have mobile Pat & Sticks ice cream sellers roaming the aisles right before the movie. Basically everything you'd expect from a dinner and movies night, you'll find it here. Highly recommended for a date, especially if you're going for the cultured, romantic vibe. Wink.

St. George Open Air Cinema is an extremely well-run open air cinema in the perfect possible location. Tip: buy tickets well in advance. The tickets sell out, so book them once they go on sale. Tip #2: get there early (say, two hours before the movie) and reserve your seats. Once you have "claimed" your seats, you do not have to stay in them, and you are free to roam the facilities for food, drink and socialising. There are numerous seating options where you and friends/family can get drinks and food before the movie starts. It's great to make a whole evening out of it. Another reason to get there early is for the photos. On one side, you have the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. On the other you have the CBD. Get there in time to take some photos before the sun goes down. Once the sun goes down, the screen comes up and the movie starts. I often found myself paying attention to the surroundings more than the movie itself. That may be because I was watching Star Wars, a series I have never been particularly interested in, but I still had a great time because of the venue. It's not a cheap night out, though. Between the cost of the ticket, dinner, and a few drinks, you can expect to pay ~$70/person. But it's worth it.

Watching a movie at Moonlight does require a little prep because onsite food and beverage is limited. So grab a few nibbles, grog, blankets and cushions and you're set for a good night out. The place is so chilled, I've never seen a double air mattress for 2 at an outdoor cinema until now (genius if you think about it). Sitting on anything higher than a beach chair is frowned upon unless you're at the back, but the number of space available with clear view of the screen is ridonculous so you'll still get to enjoy your movie if you want to bring your recliner. But wait, there's more! They're doing $10 tickets for cinebuzz members (2 tix per member) at the mo so you don't need to restrict your movie dates to Tuesdays!!

Hmmm... ingredients for crinked neck and sore brain. Lucky I booked my ticket in advance. So, yes! Star Wars was showing and I thought it was worth seeing again on the super mega big screen on my trip to Sydney. Tickets are pretty costly and so is the food. But most cinemas are costly and yeah it is big. But, I just don't know how I feel about spending $70 for two people to go to the cinema. But, it's Star Wars... I did notice a couple of things about this cinema. Not sure who they have hired to do the cleaning? They should probably do some performance management on them; there seemed to be mountains of cups and popcorn behind the chairs. Also, floor seemed to like my shoes a lot and were pulling them from my feet. When watching this gigantic screen I notice that there was a thin line on the left hand side of the screen? I thought this was digital? Also, depending on your angle, it seems to have a little darker haze. You kind of need to be in the middle and high. Well, best thing about was the exercise climbing those stairs. I worked off the costly popcorn I consumed for sure! Look, Imax is what you would expect. It's a big screen that you watch things on when you decide there is a movie worthy enough.

Even though we had just travelled about 24 hours, we decided a movie would be a nice way to kill said time. I thought it would be a nice nap time but the movie was interesting and none of us slept. This theater is odd but interesting. You buy tickets at the concession stand. I wish I had tried the popcorn but I assumed I might not be awake so eating was out. The theaters are spread around the floor in different pockets of the area, so it's more like walking to a different shop. Even though it was a matinee, we were told it was mostly sold out and that we'd have to sit in the second row. This worried me but the person selling the tickets said it's where they prefer to sit and, again, I assumed I'd sleep so we agreed. We sat in theater 11 and lone behold, it wasn't going to be a problem because the screen is far away and there's a good amount of space between the front row and the screen. The other unique thing about this room was there was a large window. I've never seen this in a movie theater before and it was cool. Don't worry, the drapes, once closed, were nice and thick and let no light in. The seats were comfy and did manually recline. I only like to recline if there's a leg rest though so I didn't do that.
