I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with this hotel -- specifically with the manager, Nick Lavender -- was upsetting and unacceptable. I left two very expensive items in my room after checkout: a pair of AirPods and a white noise machine. When I realized this, I called the hotel the next day hoping to retrieve them. Instead of showing any concern or willingness to help, Nick was immediately dismissive and defensive. I asked if he could investigate with his housekeeping staff, and he outright refused, saying he "trusts his staff" and doesn't know me, so I must be lying. I explained that I had only been at the hotel and my brother's house -- there was no other possible location where the items could have gone missing -- but he insisted he didn't believe me and made no effort to even pretend to look into it in an investigative manner. When I asked for the owner's contact information to escalate the issue, he refused again and said he wouldn't allow me to "bug him." The complete lack of empathy, accountability, or basic customer service was honestly shocking. I understand that things get left behind sometimes, but the unwillingness to investigate or even acknowledge the possibility of wrongdoing by staff is deeply troubling. I feel violated and disrespected. If you value your belongings and want to be treated with decency, I strongly recommend staying elsewhere. read more

Not trying to steer anyone away, but in comparison to other hotels in the area, the Westmark is long over do for a makeover, rooms haven't been painted for decades, big TV's, but the displays must be 20 years old, very blurry compared to a modern TV. They have s nice big fridge in the room, no microwave. Stains all over the furniture, again the furniture is ancient and they obviously don't clean it. On the plus side, they probably have the very best location and views in Sitka and the best restaurant, compliments to the Chef. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and there's a very homey atmosphere. read more

Hotel is older, needs some renovation to be a bit more current. The number of hotels on island is limited and this hotel is in the heart of town and right across from. The marina so for that I can see why everyone would recommend the hotel. No AC in hotel so be prepared! They offer floor fans for each room. Put it in the window with air facing our and put a towel covering exit door and should keep your room cool at night. Even though weather was in mid 40-55 degrees at night it still is warm in the rooms. Our room was always cleaned by the time we came back. I would have one recommendation for desk clerks. Decent uniforms to show a more professional atmosphere (which is what the hotel looks to be going for) and removing the chairs they sit on. Every time I walk up to desk they are setting and not too motivated to greet their guest. They weren't rude but it doesn't look good at the price your paying. Don't let the pictures fool you. I looked at the beds and thought "Oh boy. I'll be ruined for a week ". Thankfully it wasn't the mattress, just the awesome bedding. Best view of the harbor. The place was recommended. My family (party of 3) went in early July 2023 and it was TERRIBLE! I gave it 2 stars b/c the food was good, however the service was beyond RUDE!! Our server was LOURDES !!! Drink order - Waited on coffee for OVER 20 minutes - no apology from the server for the delay, then it was brought out with no cream or sugar, which took another 25 minutes to get! Food order - First, ordered the King crab combo, which was missing the coleslaw. When I asked the waitress (Lourdes) she said, "oh we're out." Ok, but do you substitute it for something else? Her reply "no." VERY RUDE no apology, nothing. My sister got the crab, and asked Lourdes for Obay seasoning, she said, "Ill check in the back," 15 minutes later, nothing. My sister inquired again, she said, ""oh we're out. But we had some cajun seasoning." So my sister asked for that, another 10+ minutes went by and we inquired again. Lourdes said - "oh we're out." NO APOLOGY, nothing. THEN, my sister asked for melted butter, which took us asking 3 times to get and that took over 10 minutes, when the food was cold!!!! Lourdes was standing over my sister as she filled out the check and tip and then had the audacity to say, "you could have kept that and just not given me a tip!" My sister replied - yes, the service was terrible. The waitress replied, I know, the service was terrible!!! SO, she deliberately gave us bad service and I really think this was a racial thing. We could hear how the waitress interacted with the other non-black patrons around us, and it was apparent of the slight! I have never been treated SO rudely by a service professional and I have traveled all over the world. Black people beware and steer clear of this place. read more

This hotel smells awful. It's old and needs remodeling. Wifi never works. Lumpy beds. It's like camping. Creepy carpet. No A/C so you hear every bit of noise outside. People talking. Garbage truck early morning right outside your room. Staff not very friendly and the van driver is a weirdo. He Smells like weed. Employees standing outside our windows on their smoke break. Smoke just comes in our windows. Gross. Love Sitka and location but the hotel really needs a makeover. read more

If there was a way to leave 0 stars I would. I had a reservation at the hotel, but got stuck in the back country with no way to cancel. When I asked for a refund, the agent said it was policy to require 24 hrs notice. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again and would caution anyone to look elsewhere. I also had airline flights get screwed up, and Alaska air was AWESOME to work with and rebooked me with no charges. Weather happens in AK, and this hotel should know that. read more

We were in Sitka for two days before our cruise and a half a day afterwards. We ate here 3 times in those 3 days! The breakfast selection was a firm 5. All kinds of fun options, hot coffee and great service. My pancake with fruit was the outstanding meal but my eggs were first rate as well. Both time we had breakfast it was raining steadily outside and we wondered why they had such an expansive deck. Upon our return, the sun shone and we ate out here. It was glorious. Again, impeccable service and a very nice lunch. Its stellar meal seems to be breakfast but I had a very nice sandwich and sweet potato fries. Nice spot for a superb breakfast or nice lunch. This review is for dinner at the restaurant. It was solid. There are plenty of Alaskan brews on tap, from Alaskan Brewing Company, from a brewery in Anchorage, and from the Baranof brewery in town. I quite enjoyed my hefeweizen from Baranof. For dinner, I had a very healthy cut of Alaskan salmon over wild rice and vegetables (zucchini and carrots) with a side salad. The salmon was medium rare and delicious, though improved with a sprinkle of salt. The vegetables looked over cooked but were tasty, and the wild rice lacked flavor but was fine with some salt and olive oil. All in all a solid meal. Not too crazy for $23. read more

The hotel has met our needs well on this trip. It is simple, no frills. But it is kept by a kind and welcoming staff. We enjoyed the hotel restaurant for happy hour. Initially my review was much higher as this hotel met our needs and was perfect distance to everything. Unfortunately I had a cringe worthy experience at the end of my trip. I came downstairs on time with my husband for the shuttle. A long hair gentleman mumbled come on and hopped in the shuttle. From the moment he got in the shuttle he drove like a bat out of hell. I had a great experience at the Westmark. The hotel was nice and clean. Clean is most important hotel need to me. The front desk was friendly and helpful. What really upped my rating was the restaurant. The food was AMAZING. The chef is very talented. I had the ribeye one night cooked to perfection and the Cobb salad another night. I was surprised when it came out with fish on it (didn't read the menu very thoroughly) , but so happy I tried it. It was absolutely delicious. I also had the spinach and artichoke dip with crab, soooo good! Also the bartender was very friendly and made the experience even better. I had read online that this place had the best mojitos, so I made it a point to stop in while in town. I have to concur, this place had the best mojito I've ever had. While drinking, we also ordered the firecracker shrimp an an ahi tuna app, both very good. I wish I could recreate that mojito at home! read more

I stayed at the Westmark Sitka for about 5 days in June. Let's go over what's good, and what's not-so-hot, and touch on divisive topics as well. The rooms were well-appointed and furnished with precisely whatever one could need. They were clean, well-kept and seemed sanitary. The beds were very comfortable and sheets were fresh. I suppose, as someone else pointed out, the sheets had a propensity to slide off the bed, but I am not sure if that is relevant, or how. The sheets are clean, and that's what matters. There was a big, flat-screen TV, and a working alarm clock (there is another review that mentions them not having clocks, and even if they didn't, go buy a $2 watch), so those are the amenities you'd most likely require. Larger rooms even have an empty mini-fridge to put food, water, and drinks you might buy in. I'd give the room 4/5; it's better than average, and especially good when reminded that you're in Sitka, Alaska. The staff were good enough. The night staff person (and I won't name names) seemed rude and totally unenthusiastic about being there, but I don't think I can blame him; he's the night person at a hotel in Sitka, Alaska. Winters must be awful, but the 20 hours of day in the summer must be nice. I'm willing to go 2-3/5 here. The restaurant attached to the place had great food and service. It was really top-notch. 5/5 It was a little loud, as mentioned. The place seemed -- thin? Like it was a converted apartment building. You'd often hear sounds through the walls and through the floors/ceilings, and usually hallway sounds were very audible through thin doors. The views were good, and the place is centrally located, 1-5 minutes from anywhere important in the city. If it were located in say, Seattle, this would be a 2-star establishment. It's all about context, and comparatively, and given the fact that this might be the classiest place in Sitka that could qualify as a legit hotel, it's easily 4/5 stars. read more

I am not a high maintenance gal in regards to hotels. In fact, I have traveled to several third-world countries and been completely happy with my "hostel" stays. However, this hotel was awful. The BF and I arrived around 10:00 P.M. following a brief flight from Anchorage and Juneau. After Matt asked for a room "not across from an elevator," guess where we ended up on the 4th floor?! Furthermore, the king beds are NOT actually king beds: They are two fulls pushed together! Really?! Really!! We asked to confirm this craziness. Lastly, and the ultimate reason we could no longer stay there, our room smelled of mildew. I assume this is a health code violation and should most likely be looked into... It stunk even outside the room! Not only did it reek of mildew, though, there was some serious mold action in there that made us cough. After asking to be switched to another room, we were told we would be put on a list. the next morning. Many collegues stayed here and complained about a couple of the front desk attendents being rude also. All in all, this is the worst hotel I have ever encountered, regardless of the fact it has a decent restaurant/ bar and decorations. And even with the moderate price of $99 a night, we had to take it elsewhere ASAP! read more

This hotel is very nice. The rooms are small but the bed is extremely cozy. The rooms don't have air condition, but have a fan instead. The weather in sitka is never really hot. A fan by a window would be sufficient. Try to get a top floor room as I've heard the floors are thin. The hotel has an excellent restaurant in it too. A mini gift shop with T-shirts, key change and some food options too. Sitka is one of the best places i've ever visited. Even though the beds are comfy, make sure you explore sitka. Stayed here for a conference recently. I felt good going in because the flight attendants were on my same shuttle and they were actually looking forward to getting to the hotel. Short ride (5 min) from the airport. 2 blocks from the harbor. Positives Great Location in town, easy walking distance to everywhere Clean, nicely appointed rooms DREAMY Beds with perfect PILLOWS which lead to a very good night sleep ( I mean isn't that what it's all about anyway? I know Alaska is the 50th state but it's not a 3rd world country! This is a review for breakfast at the Raven Dining Room Restaurant in the Westmark. My server was a gem. She was attentive, courteous, and prompt. My food was a sore disappointment. I've eaten here many times when traveling through, but always for dinner. My breakfast was hard for me to eat because it was so oily and greasy. My eggs had a layer of oil under them, my sausage oozed grease and I couldn't finish it. My hash browns were toasted on top and undercooked (cold) in the middle. I am not one to waste food as a matter of principle, but when I got nauseous from the greasy sausage, I had to stop eating. Coffee was weak but refilled often. The place settings are classy and clean, the scenery is beautiful, and again, the server was wonderful. Shame about the greasiness. This hotel has an adorable lobby with helpful employees. It feels like a Best Western but then you get in the elevator and see the prices for dinner: $27 lamb, $36 steak, $47 king crab... It didn't seem to match the atmosphere. The rooms were absolutely tiny, so small it couldn't fit a rectangular desk with an office chair like one would expect. They put a couple of big padded chairs and a round table instead, which wasted space as the round table wouldn't accommodate the big chairs. We had trouble getting hot water up to our room on the 4th floor. Both the shower and the sink. Our room felt like 80 degrees inside. It was maybe 55 outside, so we turned off the heat and opened the window all the way and we still slept without the sheets on the bed. It seems like the upper floors of this hotel trap heat. Our room did have a fan in it, the big kind that eats Chihuahuas. It too failed to match the cozy atmosphere. That aside, the mattresses were very comfortable. The TV was nice and big and connected well with my laptop via HDMI cord. The pillows were plush and the bedding cozy. I liked the location of this hotel. It was on the edge of downtown, but right in the heart of the excitement. I think this would be an adorable place to stay in the winter. But until you can see your breath outside, I think you would be better off elsewhere. read more

My friends and I came in for and early dinner today and were really disappointed in the overall experience. Hostess was great! We sat down ordered and thats when it all started to go wrong. We ordered our food and appetizers and nothing showed until our main dishes did. Our crab pot crab was over cooked, over half of our clams in the pot weren't even opened (we maybe got 2 edible clams) Calamari was ok but tasted like it was left under the heat lamp for to long. Our waitress was great, apologized multiple times for the experience and did her best to make sure we were happy. In the end we ended up paying way too much for the little food we were actually able to eat. Go to Bayview Pub and you will have a way better time! read more

All I can say is why are Halibut Fish & Chips $24 in the bar? Isn't the Halibut locally caught? Taste was ok, but not worth $24. Hotel is centrally located but that is the only positive thing I can say. The rooms are small, it is noisy...(street noise, street sweepers @ 4:30a.m., exhaust fan outside our room and fireworks). Fireworks went off at 10p.m. which is fine, but on our 3rd night , they went off at 1:30a.m..not the hotels fault, just part of the noise. To boot, our fishing lodge came to get luggage and the front desk did not give them ours, even though we specifically addressed this fact. The service in the restaurant & bar is slow and drinks were not made properly....vodka soda came out as soda water only, Jameson ginger came out ginger ale only. Sitka is a small town and there aren't many options, but next year we will not be staying at the Westmark. read more

Ok, this hotel is just that---ok. Too expensive to be this poorly run. The front desk staff are not welcoming and not terribly helpful. The arrogance is not acceptable when you are paying this much. Had a great stay! I was welcomed by the Front Desk like a friend that had not been seen in a long time. However this was my first visit here. Went to the Bar for dinner and was welcomed by the Barman, Roman, again as a returning friend, after a long day it was greatly appreciated, had the halibut, it was good, cleaned the plate, retired to the room, it was clean and comfortable, slept deeply. The room was clean and it was quite, Shane the driver for the shuttle was kind enough to take me to the hospital for a business meeting, he was a big help. Came back to the hotel, even though I had to check out that morning they let me borrow a room so I could change into jeans! The Resturant has a nice view of the morning sunrise over the mountains with the boats in the harbor. I will stay here again. Nice people, good food. read more

We stayed here for 8 nights in early May 2016. After a long day of travel with a toddler I found several hairs in the shower when we first arrived. I decided to wash it away and move on, but then my husband discovered that the sheets on the beds were not clean. He went down and they were gracious and were able to move us to a new room. It was better - bigger, less dingy, and with better views, but for the price I still wasn't impressed with the experience. The staff were generally helpful. I'm not a maintenance person, but for the price I would have expected a much better hotel. We even stayed with a discounted rate because my husband was attending a conference in Sitka. We ordered food from the restaurant one night when we tired after a long day of hiking. The food was ok, but way over-priced. read more

Wonderful, clean and great location! Free parking. They got a taxi for us for the fortress. Then I forgot my laptop and went to the airport. I called the hotel and the gentleman that was working on June 21st at 7pm arranged to have his coworker (Dez or Daz) drive in her personal car to the airport to give me my laptop!!! Wow!!! Clean with good service however the beds are REALLY soft and if you pay with a debit they charge you the whole bill up front and charge an extra deposit. I would certainly pass on the lounge, a bit overpriced for food, service is slow and the food is very plain. read more

Great location but normal hotel amenities like hot water and cool rooms are hard to come by. I live in Alaska, so I understand most places don't have AC, but even with the heat off the rooms here are extremely warm, making sleeping uncomfortable. Windows had to be open and lots of noise outside to help wake up at all hours of the night. Hot water in the shower was intermixed with cold fluctuations. On a plus side, the free airport shuttle was nice, as well as free Internet! read more

This place, unfortunately is one of the only places in town to stay.....and they know it. Our room was very average, obviously they had given the rooms a minor face lift but they were definitely older. Our toilet not only didn't work, until we fixed it, but the toilet seat had not been cleaned......unreal. At $180 a night, I would expect more. Next time I will definitely stay somewhere else. Check in was a joke, took 10 minutes at least and we were the only ones checking in. read more

The rooms are teeny tiny and dark, the only upgrade since the hotel was built is a flat panel TV. The beds are pretty soft and comfy, with nice white linens, but the room are super hot at night and the broken oscillating fan they gave us did not help. We stayed two nights in May. This review is relative to other choices in Sitka as to price and number of stars, as other reviewers have noted. It is centrally located and we were pleasantly surprised when we saw their own bus service to the hotel. Their bus schedule matches the Airline schedule. The hotel's restaurant's food was delicious and nicely presented, with attentive staff. A con is that our Queen mattress needed replacement, as we Commented to them and hope they listened. read more
