I have to say this has to be the most incompetent front office I have ever dealt with in my life. I'm constantly calling asking about medication wondering where it's at pre-authorizations etc. Why am I doing your job for you? It's becoming so frustrating that I want to look for a different Neurologist. The doctor seems great even though I've only seen him once. He wanted to completely revamp all of my medication's not really sure why. And all the medications that were recommended were extremely expensive and barely covered by my insurance. Please stay away from this office and find another neurologist. He diagnosed me with Alzheimers after a blood test showed I carried a genetic marker, but was negative for the disease. He had given me a test on an old CRT monitor and a mouse that didn't click properly, so of course I didn't do well. He walked in and said bluntly, you have alzheimers, do you want oral or infusion medication. I was in shock! He then proceeded to call in about 5 RXs. I was speechless. I made my husband go back with me for a second appointment. We asked what this diagnosis meant. He said someone will be wiping your ass in 5 to 25 years!! Horrible! I went to another doctor who reviewed the tests and had me do a cognitive assessment which I scored above average on. She said that she did not believe I had alzheimers even with the Pet scan and bloodwork. She explained that it means I could get the disease, but it doesn't mean I had it. She referred me to a university neurological center, which can take months to get into, but felt I was pre-clinical. Besides bring cruel and unkind, Kan wanted me to start treatment for something I may never need. He put me through a month of hell thinking I had alzheimer's until I could get in to see the other neurological doctor in a renown clinic. Please find someone else. read more

Several visits so far with my son... I'm usually early but we are always taken to room on time, barely wait 5min, and finished talking to Dr in under 20min. Every question is quickly answered and easy to understand. I don't feel like I'm walking away with more concerns which is great since this is for my son. He is nice however he didn't remember me from my initial appointment to my follow up appointment after MRI (2 weeks!) he kept trying to prescribe me meds for my symptoms when I wanted answers. I do have some anatomy and physiology classes under my belt for my profession so I had an idea where to start for my problems. Overall, I made my own treatment plan based on my knowledge and education. I went to 360 rehab to get my inner ear dizziness fixed and will be contacting ent next. The only thing he did for me was get an mri that confirms my previous issues of west Nile/meningitis that affected my brain matter. I still wonder if I have MS and they just didn't listen to me. read more

Update: Received a bill for my visit. I paid it (and got email confirmation of payment made). A month later I received another bill, for the same amount. I call the office, and they direct me to a 3rd party bill collector (Harris Computer). The office and doctor don't handle any of their patients of billing. I called Harris, am told I have an outstanding payment. I provide proof of having paid. He says they only accept check and that I should mail the check (somewhere outside of the US). I refuse, provide more proof of payment, and after some arguing, they relent and apply the payment to my account. I ask for confirmation that the payment was applied. I am told "just trust me, I did it". What a terrible experience. I have no way of knowing if I'll get another bill or what to expect next. Very poor way of running a doctor's office, and outsourcing your billing to a computer solutions company not located in the US is very sketchy. read more

Came here to see him to get an idea of why I was having pain in my arm. He guessed my RSD was getting worse. What a waste of time to guess?! No testing no nothing! He's lucky he got two stars and charged $350 for this? He then snapped his fingers and had me follow his fingers and said he felt I'd had a stroke as well. What a lot of guessing! Not only to make such assumptions, but I had just had an MRI done by another Dr. If there had been signs of a stroke he would have told me as well as the radiologist who analyzed the the MRI. A Neuro who wants to guess and charge you $350 to fill you with a bunch of nonsense, is the sign of a Medicare fraud! I am very impressed with Dr Yu. I have recommended him and will continue to recommend him to family and friends. He listened to my health history and decided that I should have a CT scan based on info I provided, even though I was only there for a sleep study. He also asked me if I was interested in losing weight. I was thrilled that he asked this because I have been asking for assistance with weight loss through my primary care for nearly two years and every time I would go, I would get someone else who would want to run another test before starting me on something that was usually on backorder through the pharmacy. No one at my primary care's office would follow through - for two years. Now along comes Doctor Yu, and in one visit he sees there is a desperate need that is detrimental, to my health and with dignity, he addressed it immediately. When I went back for my follow up visit I found out that based on the CT scan results, I had a brain tumor that no one else had found. Even though I have complained about ,memory issues and other things, no one even bothered to check accept Dr. Yu - and that was not even why I was referred to him. If Dr YU had not done his due diligence,I don't know what the outcome would have been. He even told me to see a Brain surgeon at Mayo because he wanted to ensure that another, highly qualified seto of eyes, look at this as well. Additionally, I am happy to say that within the past 5 months I have lost over 50 pounds. Doctor Yu has me check in on a monthly and monitors my vitals. Yes he talks fast, but that is part of who he is. He is not rude, he is actually a very kind person. If you tell him that you are taking notes, and you would like him to slow down or repeat himself, he has no problem doing so. Honestly he left no stone unturned for me and suggested some other types of doctors I should see based on other medical information I shared. I've been seeing Dr Yu and working on a serious condition for a couple of years. He kept telling me that losing weight would fix me but I didn't listen until lately. I lost the weight and it worked--I'm now well under control. He probably saved my life ! The moral to this story is if you need to lose weight Dr Yu will tell you so if you want to hear it or not and he will be right. I recommend that you listen to him even if hearing it bothers you. Felt very pushed to try medications I wasn't comfortable with and little explanation from the doctor on and was told to sign a piece of paper acknowledging all the possible side effects before being told there are no side effects. Adding an update. Turns out Dr. Yu completely missed my DX by not recognizing my symptoms for what they were based on my age - assuming I was out of the range of an onset of my issue. If he had listened, I might not have had to wait months for the Mayo Clinic to DX what he could have with an additional MRI and lumbar puncture. Frustrated. read more

I was referred to Dr. Yu by the pain specialist I had seen. They referred me to Dr. Yu for my restless leg syndrome. I Drove 30min away from home to see this doctor and it was such a waste of time. He rushed through my appointment, talked super fast that I could hardly understand him, and he kept telling me I need this pill and that pill. One thing that shocked me was the fact that I was there for my restless legs and out of nowhere he goes to get samples of these pills and asked me if I wanted to lose weight. I was thinking his thoughts were that if I lost weight it could possibly help the restless legs...nope. He said losing weight wouldnt matter. So why would he out of nowhere ask me if I wanted to lose weight and give me samples of seizure medication for it. I am not a skinny and I will admit i am over weight for my height but i am not morbidly obese for him to come out and say what he said. Then he wrote for a different restless leg medication that I have not tried before and told me to come back in a few weeks. Do not waste your time or money seeing this doctor. read more

Dr. Kan Yu is a wonderful doctor. He has a goal and that is to try and help ease the pain as much as possible. I love how he don't waist time and he gets right to it. With Dr. Yu I can ask questions about anything and I get a straight answer. He has helped me so much with understanding my migraines the medications and what we can do to try and help them ease if not take them away. One of the best things I love about him is unlike pain doctors he don't try to push surgery or other things you don't need on you. Dr. Yu rocks! I have been seeing him for awhile now. He has helped me with my medications. He is an expert on medications that effect the brain. My other doctors had me on several medications. I worked with Dr. Yu to reduce the dosages because I was having side effects which were debilitating. Dr. Yu also asked me to get a 2nd opinion. How many times has a doctor done that? He has no God complex like some do. I had gone to another neurologist before - he was no help whatsoever. Dr. Yu takes time to listen to his patients. He does have a good sense of humor too. Dr. Yu from the beginning has been very disrespectful to my wife. He is never on time for her appointments, talks down to her as if she is uneducated, and attempts to push medicines on her that she doesn't need. He rushes through appointments because of him being late, never looks up from his computer to talk to her like a human. He refused to sign a state mandated form we need to reopen our foster license because he said he already wrote what the need on an RX form. Sir if that would suffice we would not ask you for anything!!!! You basically have charged my wife $100 a visit for the last year for no real treatment other than pushing pills for your drug companies. read more

UPDATE: I wrote a review for Dr. Kan Yu in July. I meant every word of it at the time. Upon a follow up visit with him on 8/12/19 I brought along my 2nd MRI report and was a little disappointed with the response. I honestly thought I was getting somewhere with Dr. Kan Yu, but he only wanted to refer me out for a second opinion. I was not told that the injections he gave me that day, which only took care of my pain for a few days, was going to be paid out of pocket and was a little upset when I received the bill. I feel I spent more money and didn't get the quality of care. I have since been to another orthopedic doctor who ordered an MRI of my back and now looking at back surgery. All the pain that was causing my leg pain was actually coming from "nerves" in my back. First review good, not so happy with follow up visit. read more

I have been meaning to write this review for awhile now, and just had the courage to do it, now that I see an epileptologist who cares about me, believes me, and respects me. I had a terrible experience with Dr. Kan Yu. I had only had one grand mal seizure or less a year when I started seeing him. Dr. Kan Yu mixed my medications to try to wean me off of the one that managed my epilepsy well onto one that triggered my seizures. I had 14 grand mal seizures within a 6 month period because of him mixing the medicine. I was at a new college, trying to start a new major, make new friends, start a new job, and volunteer with a nonprofit, but my seizures were preventing me from remembering anything I learned or anyone I got to know. It felt like when I came to the appointments and told him I had another seizure, he just did the protocol of giving me more drugs, instead of having a compassionate human conversation about it. On top of that, whenever he asked me if I was sexually active (in case a surprise pregnancy happened), it seemed he never believed me when I told him I was a virgin. He would laugh and say something that suggested he thought I was lying. I have no idea how I continued to go to Dr. Kan Yu for the amount of time that I did, because my view of neurologists was very damaged by this experience. I have a hard time trusting male doctors now and feel much more comfortable with women doctors. I do not feel like neurologists fully understand epilepsy the way that they should, and therefore I now see an epileptologist at Barrow in Phoenix. I hope that Dr. Kan Yu never treats any other patient the way that he treated me. I am thankful that I can learn from this experience to have higher expectations for my doctors to be professional, respectful people who actually understand my condition and want to do something about it, not just because it is their job but because they care about me as a human and will have a conversation with me about it in a way that makes me feel valued. read more

Dr. Yu is the best Doctor I have ever seen! He takes a special interest in his patients, and is very thorough. He diagnosed my Vitamin B12 deficiency several years ago, a test that most Doctors don't test for, and because of that I will always be so grateful. I continue to commute to his office from Scottsdale when I have any concerns about my health, since no other Doctor that I've been to can compare. I highly recommend Dr. Yu to anyone looking for an extraordinary Doctor. He will do everything in his power to figure out what is wrong and make you feel better.
