Dr. Westermeyer was my dentist for over 40 years. He and his support staff were absolutely wonderful. Fifteen days ago, in February 2021, Dr. Westermeyer retired. His practice was purchased by another dentist about whom I know nothing. Because of the problems I have had obtaining information from the new support staff, I shall never meet him. I called the office seven days after Dr. Westermeyer had retired to find out the date of my husband's last visit. The unknown woman who answered the phone told me that she would research the matter and call me back the next day. I never heard from her again. The day after she was to have called, I emailed the same question to the office. Again I received no response. The following two days I left voicemails and received no response. That brought us to the end of that week. The following Monday I left another voicemail which was ignored. The office has exhausted its chances. It has completely lost my trust, and I found it necessary to warn anyone using YELP not to give this office the chance to disappoint him or her as well. If I have not heard from the office by the end of this week, I shall file a complaint with the government entity that oversees dental offices. read more

*** UPDATE MARCH 2021 *** This dentist retired in February 2021. Don't try calling the office to make an appointment, they are not getting back to patients in a timely manner. If you have the time visit the office in person, there you can make an appointment and fill out new paperwork because they are updating all their files and making it all digital. I showed up for my deep cleaning and theres a UNSIGNED note from "dr westermeyer" that says hes retired and this new dr zak has taken over. I have been with this dentist my entire life and I know for a fact he would never just up and leave his patients like that. The new dentist that took over has no professionalism, because he didnt even bother to attempt to contact any of the patients that he was taking over. And now you have to be scheduled for a virtual appointment. Its very fishy and unprofessional the way the new owners are going about things. Be weary the new owners cleaned house. I have been a patient of Dr Westermeyer's for about 30 years. I broke a tooth over the weekend and I called Saturday and left a message expecting a call back Monday. After I didn't receive a call back, I called the office at 3pm. They were busy and the message picked up. The outgoing message tells you they will call you back within 72 hours. That is not acceptable. I called back about 10 minutes later and someone answered the phone "Dr Zak". I spoke with her and she said they took over the business and are now in Whittier. At this point I was already upset and told her that I would find another dentist. I then get a call back later from the Philippines retuning my call from Saturday. Again, unacceptable. I would always recommend Dr. Westermeyer, but would not recommend Dr Zak based on the horrible service over the phone. read more

Going to miss Dr Westermeyer. My son had a appointment on March 2nd he went not knowing Westermeyer had retired and the place was closed and they said to reschedule. Well trying to talk to someone is impossible. Finally after days of calling they tell me that my son and I cannot get our teeth cleaned. That we will have to be examined, X-rays and in about two weeks after the dentist looks at our teeth and X-rays then the dentist will decide if we need our teeth cleaned and we will have a virtual appointment to talk about it. I don't know if this is a standard procedure for new patients or not. With Westermeyer it was every 6 months. He will be missed. read more

The BEST dentist I have ever been to. I have extreme fear and anxiety about dental work. After one appointment of zero pain not even a pinch for the shot I was amazed. I made my follow up appointment that day. I never make a second appointment until I'm back in paid. If you are unsure you need to give him a try. Dr. Westermeyer treated and helped his patients great but his work was subpare. His completed work was only good for a few years for me and was always back in trying to get the problem fixed again and again until after a few years I had to go to bridge, denture, or some replacement. His completed work was not made to last and I could not be the only patient that had this problem. All the problems that I have had with my teeth are the ones that he worked on. I went to Dr Westermeyer for many years. I was sorry to hear he recently retired. When I was there in September I made an appointment for March 2021. I tried calling the office several times but no one answered the phone at all. I left a message online and on the voicemail. It took about 2 weeks to finally get a call back from their office. The person I spoke to said I no longer have a March appointment. Also that I would be x-rayed and checked at my next appointment and then have an online consultation with the dentist. I don't want a virtual appointment but an appointment in person. I told them I would be looking for a new dentist because I was already unhappy with the difficulty of even reaching someone on the phone to help me. It's very disappointing that someone more efficient didn't take over this practice. What would a person do if they had a dental emergency? I just want to keep going to an old school office where a receptionist answers the phone and is helpful. I bet there won't be much return business from former patients of Dr Westermeyer. And even the nice ladies from his staff are not there to help us. read more

I love this dentist practice...I had had such a bad experience at another dentist office it really put me off taking care of my teeth...and their staff had a way of making you feel really bad and guilty. But here I walked in and all the assistants were super nice and westermeyer told me exactly what I needed done....they made me feel so comfortable and relaxed and cared about my teeth if they were hurting while they were working on them. As I heard from my family, who all go to him, he was a miltary dentist or something dont know if thats true or not but if it is makes sense that hes quick and accurate i mean you have to be when your on the govs time. ...I go in to the dentist regularly now because they dont make me feel bad .....I highly recommend him. read more

Dr John was always professional, calm, detailed and conservative in his practice. He wasn't in for the $ but for the patient's best interest. I just found out that he retired...we're sad to lose our family dentist. Need to find another trustworthy Dr. which is hard in the dental business. I felt that I had to write this review because the only other one was pretty negative. I've been going to Dr. Westermeyer my whole life. My parents, brothers and nephew go there, too. We've never had any problems and they've always been professional, helpful and nice. I have REALLY sensitive teeth and gums and as long as I mention that in advance, it's always fine. I hate going to the dentist just because of my sensitivity, but after I go I'm always glad I did and I realize the fears are in my head because they always take good care of me. read more

I have been going to Dr. Westermeyer for about 20 years. Dr. Westermeyer operates an "assembly line" office. That's because he accepts all kinds of insurance plans and in order to keep his prices reasonable, he has to see a lot of patients. So if you're looking for an office where the dentist knows you, this is not the kind of office for you. On the other hand, if you're looking for a competent reasonably priced dentist, then this is the office for you. I would suggest that you would be better off purchasing dental insurance first because his rates are a lot lower if you have insurance. I have had a plan for years that costs around $85/year and that means my office visits including xrays and cleaning are around $50. I had some crowns done a few years ago and they were around $400--about 1/2 the going rate. So to sum it up, Westermeyer is very competent but don't expect a lot of personal service. I should add that they also are very good at squeezing patients in when there's an emergency (e.g. tooth ache). read more

I have been going to this dentist for a while, and I never knew how bad it was until I began my dental assisting school. I have never seen a hygienist to clean my teeth, the dentist uses the ultrasonic really quickly then an assistant polishes my teeth, and they're done. Maybe a 15 minute appointment. He got his crown replaced. 3 months later his tooth got badly infected to the point where another dentist had to extract his tooth. Be careful when it comes to a dentist. Had to wait almost 2 hours - I kept thinking that "well - i've been here this long it can't be much longer" but to my dismay it was!!!! AND THIS WAS MY FIRST VISIT! THen when I did get into the room - he came in with his back to me - then proceeded to just put his hands into my mouth - I stopped him and introduced myself and asked him to to the same.
