They also have a bathroom there. The weather was great, overcast, and breezy today. We walked about 4 miles. Then, we stopped in for a coffee right there in the same parking lot is a coffee shop/ church. It was pretty cool. Busy, but had available tables outside to sit. These trails are not always busy, so they are a great quiet outing. Today was a little different because it's winter break for schools. Although, it was nice to see the youth out enjoying a good hike. Check it out.

They look like stick figures with arms raised toward the sun in the fields. I took the four mile D trail "Over the Mountain Loop." It does not matter which direction if you are completing the entire trail, but I would go with the "start" direction if you only want to do part of the trail as it heads toward the side of the mountain with a better view. Multiple signs with mile count and QR code. Even though it was only 60 degrees, it was warm in the sun with a gentle breeze. Got to say hello to a horned owl nested in a cactus umbra. I would not have seen it except a fellow hiker who visits every year told me to look over the fence. Not a large parking lot and not any nearby alternatives, so be patient. A ranger was cutting off traffic from the trailer only parking, and she was recording license plates.

The neighborhood has definitely quieted down since my childhood days--a time when kids roamed the streets and claimed the ends of culdisacs in numbers on their bikes or rollerblades, both after school and on the weekends. Now however, you won't see much of that. Today the neighborhood is predominantly made up of an older crowd. In fact I don't think I've seen anyone younger than the high school age in the area for some time now, and my parents recently mentioned that they couldn't remember the last time they had a trick-or-treater. So if you're looking to start and/or raise a young family, this probably isn't the ideal neighborhood for you. If you're looking for a quieter more grown scene however, then look no further! As far as the West side of the greater metro Phoenix area goes, the Arrowhead Lakes Estates are by far the best place to call home and everyone knows it. The development offers both lake view properties as well as golf course properties with gorgeous views of the nearby mountains and of course, the lake itself. My experience living here has been on the water, and I wouldn't have it any other way! Who wants to pick up golf balls from your netted yard everyday anyway? The only a downfall to a golf course property. Almost every lake front property has a boat dock to fish off of and accompanying boats to boast which makes sunsets and sunrises all the more beautiful. At Christmas time there is even a light parade open to all who have a boat to participate in. Such a great way to kick off the holiday season! The lake winds around the development--essentially connecting all properties, and even has beautiful waterfalls aligning its path at various stops for your viewing pleasure. All in all, this is a gorgeous place to live, or in my case, get to come home to when I need a break from life.

The Fletcher Heights trailhead is in a medical/industrial park. No bathrooms here. (There is a QT near by if looking for restrooms.) Take a break at one of the covered picnic tables. Water station with water fountain and bottle refill. Tool station near the map to adjust or fix one's bike. Streatching/parcore bars over by Cigna. There is even a little lending library. (Look for the green newspaper holder.) Parking available at the trailhead. If full, additional parking is available further in the center. Usage of the trail was about 50/50 those on bikes vs. those on foot. When passing eachother, people were using good trail etiquette. A couple people were walking their dogs, but not many. With a length of the trail, 13.5 miles, many people seem to be there to take advantage of the length. I myself only walked about 5 miles. Trail itself follows the wash. Use good judgment in regards to weather. Posted signs warn to stay out when flooded; this is a flash flood area. Wash made for a nice view. There were many different types of birds. While I didn't stop, there are spots with benches to sit and enjoy the view. Sporadic spots with shade. Various points had treadmarks where riders have chose to go off roading in the wash.

Love the fact they have several checkpoints to rest and enjoy the scenery. It's about a little over a mile hike to the top peak. Once you reach the top peak, amazing 360 views of surrounding Phoenix. Popular spot for an amazing sunset that falls behind the mountains. If you're more adventurous, they also have a different route that offers all rugged terrain from the bottom up. Love this park as there's plenty of parking and restrooms around. Less crowded than other nearby mountain parks but it can get busy during sunset hours. Lots of picnic tables and pavilions to enjoy your stay more.

There are a lot of families here today enjoying a bb-q and a concrete stage area. What a joyful place to walk and be in nature. There are many different level of difficulty hiking trails to choose from, but I want to stress that this one is all family friendly with poky things safely at a distance. It is short enough to do the loops 2x for a good 30 minute walk. It is also a really good choice to rehab from an injury because it is mainly flat with a slight incline. Get out there and move. You'll feel better.

A quick disclaimer for the following review -- This review pertains to the fishing quality of the…read morearea. I worked in Laveen for many years and drove past this location on 91st Ave hundreds of times but did not know about the Tres Rios Wetlands until a friend suggested it for a fishing outage. The first recommendation I will make is to bring/leave nothing of value in your vehicle. This is a high-crime area of Phoenix and the "parking lot" for Tres Rios is essentially just the shoulder of the main road. There have been several police reports filed at this location for vehicles being burglarized and catalytic converters being stolen. Secondly, a permit is required to park/use Tres Rios. The permits are free and available through the Tres Rios Wetlands page on the Phoenix.gov site. Each permit is good for a 6-month block. I have no idea if there is any enforcement action taken against non-permit holders but the consequence is a class 5 felony for trespassing on government land per multiple signs posted all over the park. Finally, if you went through the trouble of obtaining a permit and driving here just to fish, you may have set yourself up for disappointment. The actual wetlands sanctuary area that is advertised on the website is completely off limits to the public (including permit holders) and is surrounded by a 7 ft barbwire fence. The only area where fishing is actually permitted is a small strip of water outside of the sanctuary. The area is not maintained and it is completely surrounded by thick 6ft tall reeds and grass with only 3-4 gaps over about a half mile about the width of a single person. Maybe I went during wrong season, but the ground was covered in swarms of millions of ants crossing the pathway. Be careful what you put down on the ground or where you stand as you're likely to be covered in ants. If you're here to walk, hike, or birdwatch, I'm sure this location is beautiful gem in the desert thats full of wildlife. If you're here to fish it's unfortunately a big disappointment.
