Went to grill for lunch, ordered build your own burger for 11.99, went to pay and came back to grill to eat. Then noticed price charged was 18.98! Told server (young fellow with ponytail) the one who waited on me and he just started arguing so I walked away. Another server came by and I told him but he just mumbled something and walked away. This interaction says that the store allows this....just perhaps because they want a certain type of customer?? read more

When I come into west Seattle I will walk to this market. They have slightly higher prices but it is convenient for me. I wish they had a little more Asian options here. The garlic bread from the bakery was very yummy. It was better than the frozen ones you buy. read more

They have a great selection of beer & cider, fancy chocolate, cheeses, crackers, snack foods. And they have beautiful bouquets if you need to grab one for a party. But for everyday groceries, go elsewhere, they are overpriced. read more

Yes it is too expensive for basic items but I live 1/2 a block away so it's extremely convenient for me. Their meats are excellent and their fruits and vegetables are far better than those of the two closest Safeways. I always wonder whether buying almond milk there, which I use daily, is justified because of the gas I would use to get to the Safeway that carries almond milk at ~ $1.50 less. These questions of price vs climate puzzle me. I have an Israeli friend who's crazy for hommus and only likes a brand carried by this Thriftway. That's the thing - they carry high quality products no one else seems to have and they are always adding interesting new foods. I note here in other reviews people who found the staff unfriendly. That has certainly not been my experience and I am there x2/week, most weeks. read more

Rude Staff member, Yesterday I was in the store around 5:45pm. I had two items and was in the Express checkout lane. This lane had a very tall female cashier with red hair and she was going slow. Another cashier opened a register next to the one I was in. I was the next customer without anything on the check stand. The cashier called for the next person. I moved over. At that point the red haired female checker rudely snapped at me that it was not for me. I don't believe I need to be treated rudely by a store employee on a power trip. I love this store. I cook a lot of international cuisines and this store always has thr spices that other major groceries don't have like berbere, whole fenugreek seeds etc. unfortunately I cannot come close to affording to do my regular shopping here as it's incredibly expensive. I avoid this store it's too expensive for me. I bought from the bakery and that was eventually thrown out the bakery small cakes I bought family never ate them. The danish I bought were horrible tasting and the cake wasn't all that good either. Bought a sandwich and checked out. Haven't been back since May 2024. Ezell's has better food than this place. But I don't go there either because it's too expensive. Same reason folks. I've noticed the prices are too expensive now days for mediocre tasting food. It's not worth it. read more

Wonderful grocery store. Super helpful staff people. Reminds me of the old-time grocers I used to visit with my Grandma back in the 70's and 80's. The type that still ask if you need help out to your car and walk you to the aisle to show you where a product is located. They will even specially order an item for you. A true hit or miss. I stayed nearby for about a month and frequented the thriftway because it was so close. The first thing to note is that it is shockingly expensive. When I first arrived, I just thought Seattle had crazy food prices. Then I went to a different grocery store and found out that no, it's just thriftway. I can't imagine why things are SEVERAL dollars more. My usual weekly grocery trip is $60-$80, and here it was always over $100. On top of this, I found the quality of the food lacking. I had to return several items because they were spoilt or molded. I bought a granola bar and thank goodness I checked the date, it was over a year expired?? How long have those been sitting there, does nobody check? I found that several of the employees were really kind and helpful, but others were straight-up impossible. One time, I bought lemons, and the guy put both his hands on the scale and leaned (?), so two lemons came out to $10. I mentioned it and he deleted the charge (thank goodness I caught it), but then he rang me up for 4 organic lemons. I said hey, I only have two, and he just finished ringing me up, handed me the receipt, and told me to go wait in line and get a refund. Beyond being charged $10 (!!!), then being charged for organic, I had to spend my time now trying to get a refund. However, some employees were really nice. When I returned the year-expired bar, the manager gave me a candy and a sincere apology. When I returned moldy tomatoes, they took them back without even needing a receipt. So it really just depends on who you get, but they definitely need more training on the newer people. They have all the goods a normal chain would, but a very 50/50 experience and VERY steep prices. I really enjoy shopping at West Seattle Thriftway. They are a little pricer than Safeway, but you definitely get a better shopping experience here. I think their parking lot is pretty good. They always have plenty of open parking spaces and each stall is decently sized. Thiftway is located in the Morgan Junction, and it is really easy to get to, no matter which direction you are coming from. They have all of your typical departments: produce, meats and seafood, bakery, and wine/beer/spirits. They also have a really good floral shop, an espresso stand, and a specialty deli with hot foods. I am constantly surprised by the rare items that I can only find at Thriftway. One day I went to several Asian grocery stores, but I couldn't find Thai Basil. However, Thriftway had tons of it! Another time I was preparing for a Thanksgiving potluck in early November. I tried to buy a fresh turkey breast at Whole Foods, but they said they wouldn't have any until the week before Thanksgiving. Again, Thriftway saved the day and apparently they have fresh turkey breast in stock all year long! The employees there have always been friendly and helpful. The owners also seem to be really cool and sometimes they have fun contests in the store. read more

Tried to buy some soap that was on sale. Regular price 8.99. On sale for 3.99 When I got to the counter it came up as 8.99. I told the cashier it was on sale for 3.99. He said hey I can only tell you the price that comes up. Then he said I find it hard to believe that it would be on sale from 8.99 to 3.99. He could have been nice and just asked someone about it. Of course he didn't. If something is on sale they should be aware of it, or ask someone who does know. read more

There is a lot to like at WS Thriftway - unique and specialty groceries, bulk items, good produce, and an Ezell's Chicken in the parking lot. Unfortunately the overall prices and the quality/variety of the prepared food makes this store makes this an occasional or in a pinch store. I would opt for Metropolitan Market over WS Thriftway when given the choice. It is also really overpriced, but their prepared food, cheese and bakery departments are superior to what Thriftway offers. read more

Contrary to its name, this place is probably pricier than Whole Foods and maybe even Metropolitan Market. However the sandwiches here rule. And unlike a lot of other fancy/specialty grocers, they do discount some of their products such as fresh meats and seafoods. The turkey BLT-like sandwich has to be one of the most satisfying sandwiches I've had in a long time - creamy, perfectly flavorful and balanced, and super indulgent for what would otherwise be an ordinary grocery store trip. I'm a self proclaimed fruit connoisseur. I come here for the good quality fruit and also their awesome selection of Uli's sausage (try the chicken ones!). I find they often have super delicious fruit varieties on promo (Valentine pomelo, golden nugget mandarins, etc). Cool prepared foods and bakery items and always a well stocked Franz bread selection. Not the place to go to pick up basic items and condiments if you're concerned about prices. You'll see things like A1 sauce for 7 dollars. But, I always come back for fruit/sausage and the occasional top pot donut/coffee on the weekend. Love this west Seattle grocery option! read more

Prosciutto doesn't belong on the bottom of a bag under two bottles of wine and a carton of milk and then a small cake jostled in the middle of all that doesn't make sense. I brought in two bags, the bagger only used one to throw all of my items in rather than make everything safe for transport to my car and home $137 for 10 items and they can't figure it out. read more

As far as a grocery store it's very good, lots of selection and good quality. Prices however are insane, like silly high.

I like this Thriftway. Many of the friendly employees have worked here for years. Some features: a surprising section in the middle of the store with gifts and housewares, a coffee shop, an extensive cheese section (often with samples!), a deli with a small Chinese food and hot bar section, a seating area with television in the corner of the store (near the deli and coffee bar), and the best bathrooms of any grocery store I've been in. One night around the holidays there was a singer/guitar player in the wine section. Another night there was a huge "sample party" all throughout the store with lots of vendors giving away free samples. These are not regular occurrences, but I thought there were note-worthy because I've never seen anything like them in other grocery stores. The big downsides are: 1. Cost. Everything here is more expensive than at other places - especially the organic section, and 2. The old angry men who give you dirty looks if you are brown and in their way. Mostly found during the day when I come in during lunch. Usually avoidable if you stop in after work. I'm here frequently because this store is close to work, but if I had a lot of groceries to buy, I would shop somewhere else. This store is good for lunch and small purchases, but you could spend crazy amounts of money here if doing weekly shopping for a family. read more

New Favorite grocery store! Awesome on at least several levels, Affordable and modest prices on many things, it was quite nice to go looking for an instant ready made meal late at night a few days ago, and actually see an approx $5.Something, Real actual classic market style sandwich, right next to California Rolls etc in fridge cooler... Those boxes and maybe frames of reference that many of us maybe have of what things would cost in a perfect world, a made chilled cooler instant sandwich for example, this place actually optimally has those available in that way as an example. As apposed to Approx $7.99 or what ever for a tiny junky fakey sandwich other grocery and or gas stations elsewhere etc.... The inventory is also a lot like that of a high end grocery store in that lots of local and other small manufactures that make gourmet, more quality and signature type products, things like: Charlies Produce, Ginger People: Ginger Soother, Alki Bakery of coarse being in West Seattle etc... German Import Beers, Made in the USA A&W cream soda consumer sized serving portion bottle one of my personal favorite treat dessert to combo when in the mood etc.. With an Ice Cream Cookie which I haven't looked in the freezer isle yet but I am sure that they likely have also! Affordable and modest quite reasonable prices, hence the name Thriftway, However also Name is kind of a Misnomer on another aspect because: (In this case "Thrift" doesn't also imply low quality) Higher quality almost extra dollar worth every penny "(quote Gourmet)" type grocery store brands also available! All in one place! with friendly staff and a nice atmosphere! Conclusion 5 stars! Looking forward to next visit, especially when ever I am in the area of West Seattle, would highly recommend to friends and family and acquaintances on at least several levels and aspects! PS. Store shelves have been kinda bare since the coronavirus epidemic. Employees are very helpful when asking someone for help finding something. Prices are extremely higher than Safeway or QFC. Since we live a few blocks away from this Thriftway we wanted to love shopping here. But end up driving a few miles away to shop at Safeway or QFC Parking is a joke at this Thriftway. Spots are extremely tight so expect to get door dings if you're able to find a parking spot. The only good upside to coming here, is that they carry some unique items that you can't or won't find at other grocery stores read more

Favorite Thirftway! They always have everything I'm looking for. Great one stop shop for everything on my list. The last time I had a lot of items on my list, I was able to accomplish the goal and purchase all of them during my trip. I was able to get my groceries for the week, snacks, sweets, favorite drinks (+ my favorite flavor which is hard to find at QFC/Safeway) and even a dog toy for my little niece. The customer service here is great, the cashiers are very sweet and when I went they had a vendor sampling their new item. The experience was wonderful and smooth. I always love stopping by when I'm in the neighborhood or when I know I can't find certain items I know I won't find at QFC/Safeway. West Seattle resident for over a decade. I've shopped at all the West Seattle groceries many times; Metropolitan Market, Safeway, PCC, QFC, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, etc. Thriftway has the deepest selection of gourmet and hard to find foods in West Seattle by far; you want sardines? They have tons of european imports. You want a 1/2 kilogram of MSG? They have it! (others do not stock MSG). You want pickles from a BBQ chain in Illinois? They have it. Produce section is good, better than most. I think the butcher section is not as good as Metro Market but the meat is high quality. The deli is the weakest part of the store, the prepared foods are on the level of Safeway, and far below that of Metropolitan market. I really like Thriftway and if they were closeer to me, I 'd shop at thriftway for everything except their deli and perhaps the meat department, for which I'd choose Metropolitan Market (based on larger variety at Met market, not on quality as both butchers are high quality). read more

Packed parking. Plenty of good beer. Good cheese selection. Flowers for my wife. Nice card and magazine offerings. A fantastic deli. Perfect "bad" Chinese food - the kind you want when you have either had a shit day or are fighting a hangover. Locally owned. Bundles of decent firewood in the winter. Friendly long term employees. In almost every way the perfect neighborhood grocery store. The prices however are crazy. I get it food is expensive and they have a lot of overhead. That all costs, but some items are over the top. So I've been at a couple of my friends house for dessert after a lovely evening (we are all vaccinated) it was great to get together but both of them had this incredible dessert that they made by just adding some berries and one added caramel, Little sweet bread Found a Thriftway. I'd give WS Thriftway 4 stars if their items weren't so dang expensive!!! I feel like my bank account is being sucked dry every time I walk into the door, but I live so close that sometimes Thriftway is the quickest and easiest option. For normal shopping, I have to closely follow their sales, and go in for ONLY those things. They do run some pretty good sales, but it's hard to go to the store for one item. The store is laid out nicely, and it really has a fancy feel. The produce is always fresh and organized beautifully. They have nice wine and beer areas, and there's a really neat aisle in the center of the store with kitchen gadgets. The customer service is top-notch; I've gotten assistance finding things, and even cooking tips! If only the prices were in line with other places in the area! read more

You can tell she is an expert at what she does and is a straight shooter. My friend from work recommended her for my wedding when I told her I was looking an affordable florist. Not only did she do a gorgeous job, she was EXTREMELY affordable. She handled all the last minute glitches that happen with weddings with grace. It was so touching on my special day when I saw the gorgeous flowers and how she brought my unique vision to life. She even delivered for a reasonable price. I was not the most traditional of brides and she understood my vision and took it further than I imagined. Ladies, these flowers did not look like grocery store bouquets! Yes, it's true, there is nothing thrifty about this Thriftway. However, the quality of the products they sell is exceptional. They are in line with the Met Markets, PCC's and Whole Foods. Expensive, but they carry local vendors, beautiful produce and friendly helpful staff. You will find a wide selection of gluten free and vegan products, as well as a nice meat and seafood department, a deli with high quality boarshead meats, a small Hot bar with things like prime rib, and the usual roasted chickens and salads. They have a large selection of produce, both regular and organic. They have a nice little wine selection as well as beer and the hard stuff and a small bulk aisle. In the middle of the freezer aisles is a cute little kitchenware and gift section. I don't tend to get paper household goods here because of the price, or personal products but they do have a nice selection of organic and natural beauty products. There is also a lot of cheese, but very little of it is vegan. The florist is very nice and one time when I needed a gift bouquet and the one I liked wasn't the freshest, I chose another one and he re wrapped it very prettily at no extra charge. They have a small coffee bar in the baked goods section and behind that a place to sit and eat if you're into that. The parking lot is a little small, but there's also parking on the side of the building. My biggest complaint is that there are no cart return stalls in the lot, which is inconvenient, especially with a small child, but I will say that the courtesy clerks are very good about coming out with you to help unload and return the cart, which is nice. The customer service is outstanding which does bring me back despite the high prices. read more

My first time in a Thriftway in 5 years, this location didn't disappoint. Although on the smaller side and definitely on the expensive end, Thriftway sells locally made grocery items that I've yet to find elsewhere. This location was no exception. I bought a couple bottles of root beer, one made in Port Angeles and the other out of Edmonds. Both were delicious. As a wannabe foodie, I love to try new food and drink. That is one of the biggest allures of Thriftway. I also got a cheesecake for a party. I can hear it calling my name. I don't know if it's going to survive till tonight. I perused the magazines and found a couple writer ones. That was a sweet surprise. I write, and the only place I've ever found these types of magazines is at Barnes And Noble and Silver Platters. Great to find them close to home. They also sell food magazines I haven't seen before. They have a huge beer selection. I don't drink but I supply the beer for work. I'll be coming back here to get a wide variety for our next happy hour. The cashier that checked me out was fast, helpful and automatically bagged my stuff. That's a big plus to me. Since Seattle went anti-plastic bag, it annoys me that when I forget to bring a tote, I'm asked if I want a bag. Obviously! This gal paid attention to the fact I didn't have a tote and just took care of me. I also noticed that the lines were short, even though they were busy because the cashiers were quick. I saw at a distance and will have to check out later their floral department. It looked pretty good. The private, free parking lot is a great size for this smallish store. I was sent some coupons when I moved into the area for this store. I'll be back with them, but also to see what else they have that's locally made and unique. read more
