This places is abandoned as of 2024. Nothing but three clearance stores and a small old college remain, one store didn't even have a name. Most entrances are blocked off for the mall, remaining stores, and even the for the college which can't be used. It was a nice exploration place, but was very sad seeing this mall pretty much abandoned, forgotten, and taking up space. Haven't updated their stores on the map as it says they're still standing and the mall still opened. Not too much of a mall or shopping center if that's what you're looking for. read more

Nice selection inside of the Dillard's, but that is the only store open on the entire property. Don't come if you want a variety because the other stores are not open. Should not be considered a mall anymore, it is scary looking almost like a haunted house. read more

This Mall is DEAD. When I first got here, there's not many people. I don't know what happened, but financially, it's gone downhill.

Radiohead actually recorded an album here - their best one. "Oaks Computer." But the mall has gone downhill since then. Literally, due to tectonic plate shifting and swamp-induced mudslides. It's 57 feet lower than it was then. Psych. The West Oaks Mall is a sad relic of the past. There was a time when this kind of mall was everywhere and it would have been thriving and alive, but these days it's just kind of gathering dust. Yes it's still a decent mall but it reminds me of one of the malls up in Detroit that I went to this past summer, because it is falling into disrepair a little bit and it does look very dated and old and some of the stores are going under and other ones are just sitting there gathering dust. We didn't find anything we wanted at the Victoria's Secret and we didn't really expect to. It's not a good mall for people watching and it's not really a good mall for finding lots of different options but if what you want is cheap discount stores there are quite a few of those in here picking up the pieces after all the high-end stuff has moved away, or will soon. This place is becoming the next Sharpstown Mall. Nobody shops here anymore. It looks like a ghost town. A good setting for the next zombie or virus apocalypse movie. They still had xmas decorations up In Feb. Its eerie and awkward. It's so strange to because its not like the area isnt busy. Not sure whats going on but this place is on its way down unless the property management does something to get more tenants in and find a way to attract more people. We've been going to this mall to go to the Alamo Draft House for years. They renovated the mall a few years ago but it doesn't seem to help. There are many empty stores, many other stores look like they may be going out of business any time now. The mall seems to be frequented by some shady characters and families who don't watch their children closely enough. I really hate smoke and smoking. Every time I walk out of the mall I have to walk through a wall of smoke, since the smokers all congregate outside of the doors. I'd never go there again if it wasn't for the Alamo Draft House. read more

I sometimes come here to shop with my mom when we're limited on time and it just seems so dead. Places tend to come and go and now there is a small selection of restaurants in the food court. The Dillard's is now an outlet and has great sales on basically everything, but it's just so much to look at since everything is on clearance. Other decent stores in there are Bath & Body Works, Victoria's Secret , Sears, & Claire's. There's a new Edward's theatre opening so it'll probably bring back some more business and I'm looking forward to it. read more

The West Oaks Mall was getting really run down and was hardly a shopping destination. Then it got a great looking renovation and some new stores and things seemed to be looking up. Still, though, there are many great stores missing from West Oaks that you can find at Memorial City that isn't that much further. I think West Oaks is still in a transition though and trying to find its niche in the shopping arena. One of the highlights of the mall is the Alamo Drafthouse - I believe this breathed some much needed life into the mall. It is a great cinema and certainly a great use of a theatre that would otherwise be abandoned. I'll keep my fingers crossed that West Oaks will regain its former glory after the upgrades are all complete. It can't hurt to have a quality shopping center on the West Side. read more

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." The review pertains the as of now condition of West Oaks Mall with a few tales of what West Oaks Mall was like in my childhood. *Insert flashback effects* We recently moved to a neighborhood that's near Richmond and Eldridge and amazingly, the mall is pretty much 8-10 minutes bike ride away. I used to be a West Oaks Mall mallrat that pratically stayed at the only video game shop (EB Games back in the days) at the corner of the food court (I believe it is now a fragrance shop selling "knock offs" straight from the Harwin stores inventory). The mall was alive and vibrant, full of different customers varies in race, gender, and age. At each end of the mall, there's always a major anchor stores full of people walking in and out. Then there's the original movie theater with an arcade right across from it. As time has passed, so has the stores that come and go. All the top name brand retailers have come and gone, all the good stores left this mall, the arcade closed down, and the mall go-ers have all changed. Currently, the only reason any of us ever go to this mall is Alamo Drafthouse. As for the mall itself, there's pretty much nothing note worthy left than bunch of generic local no-brand retailers, 2 anchor stores left (Macy's and Sears), and a nice cowboy style renovation decoration. If you're really in the mood for shopping, still stick with Galleria or Memorial City Mall. But for some odd reason, you feel like suburb exploration and seeing the decay of the malls of America without being shot/robbed (I'm looking at you Sharpstown), this is the place to do that, and watch some first run movies while drinking beer. read more

Advice...don't bother. Very few vendors. Macy's closed. Image closed. There is a Dillard's Clearance Center, but it is always in disarray. I have been in Houston for a couple of years now and I just moved to the West part of the city from the Montrose area. I was excited there was a mall so close to me, but this mall has an almost seedy feel to it. I walked in and turned around and walked out within a matter of 15 minutes. RIP West Oaks, I am surprised that this poor excuse for a mall is stil standing. Around 15 years ago, this was the place to be. Almost similar to its competitor mall, First Colony. You used to have name brands, great book/toy stores and a decent selection of restaurants inside. Now, in 2018, this place is a dump. The only thing worth your time is the Edwards Cinema. I assume that people walk this crap shack after a movie and realize that there are NO REAL STORES INSIDE. Im serious, there is not a recognizable store in this place. You have various weird off brands selling ghetto fabulous clothing and things that just look hideous. There are just weird little shops inside that are not worth your time. Im pretty sure many of the toys sold here have led, and the clothes melts in the rain. If you want a good laugh, walk to the food court. I dare you to tell me that you recognize any of those restaurants. You wont. Dont do that to your stomach my friend. This mall does not have any of the stores that you typically would see. There is a bootlegged Disney wannabe store, Journeys, and various others. You won't find a good deal here either. This place looks more like a run down flea market. Renovated mall that is actually pretty classy inside. The exterior is still kind of in a need of a makeover. They still have further expansion plans despite numerous changes already made in its interior and tenant makeup. The stores here won't impress you as much as nearby First Colony Mall but this mall has a more expensive feel than First Colony. It's just that the demographics of the surrounding area isn't as wealthy as Sugar Land so the stores that you like may not be here. I'm still waiting for a Banana Republic here. *sighs* But it's a nice mall to walk around in and there's also the Alamo Drafthouse, a movie theater where you can dine inside with full service. The only good stores that's literally keeping the mall alive is Victoria Secrets and Bath and Body Works. Other than that, most stores usually close down or move within a year. Body Central closed. Beauty 4 U is moving. McDonald's shut down. At least every month, someone is closing or moving. The food court, doesn't deserve to be called a food court. There's not a lot of variety, so you're either eating chinese food, Mexican food, or overprice pizza. It's mostly a shopping mall for ladies than men. NO STAR WARRANTED. I frequent this mall about twice a year and I work ACROSS THE STREET from this place. Everytime I go, I say NEVER AGAIN. Like the other reviews state, this mall is dying on the vine. Today, during my limited lunch break, I went for a quick purchase at a clothing store. While hurrying to the clothing store, I was constantly HECKLED and INTERRUPTED by pushy-aggressive store employees. These included both the vendors in the middle of the mall walkway AND the actual stores located along the side. After saying "No thanks", sometimes repeating myself THREE times, they still persisted. I don't like to be rude to employees as I am certain their management have mandated these ridiculous sales tactics. I have been approached too many times by people asking me for some money. Dillards-with exception of the trashy outlet store and the other anchor stores have left. I don't blame them. The main inhabitants of this mall and yes, I do mean inhabitants, as they are just 'hangin' out...they do not patronize such stores. I have other complaints as well, but they are mainly repeats of the other reviews prior to today's date, so you can read them there. Unfortunately, all prior negative reviews are currently accurate. I agree that the renovations are nice. Carpeted areas were probably not the best idea, however, because they are now full of stains. Kinda gross looking. I have one gripe about the Orange Julius in the food court. They stopped serving drinks at least 20 minutes before closing. I tried to order and they refused. I don't know how long they were refusing to make the drinks before I showed up. I have worked in food service. You don't stop serving your signature item until closing time. You leave at least one blender out until it's time to shut down for the night. They performed their closing duties early and just stood around so they could bail right when the mall closed. I come to West Oaks when I know what I want. Yes, it's older and there are not a lot of stores other than Macy's and Sears, but my days of walking the mall on a Friday night trying to look cool ended over 20 years ago. The positives are that because few people come here, I can get in and out quick. I'm sorry, but I really don't care for looking for parking spots or having to deal with a bunch of people when I know exactly what I'm looking for (especially at holiday time). I've come here once looking for mattresses (both the Macy's and the Sears here have very nice mattresses) and a household appliance. In both instances, we looked up what we wanted online and then came here to check them out and make our purchases. As for whether this mall is safe? I'd say so. The security is a joke! I mean really couple months ago my truck got broken into and all they could say is that I should not have brought my nice truck to the movies. What the hell so I didn't know I had to bring an ugly car to the movies. Today while at the mall about to leave I observed a car hit another parked car and then notified the mall security and after not wanting to take a report they had the audacity to make stupid faces at me when I show them the cars involved. 20 some years ago, West Oaks mall was a hidden pleasure to visit. Now, with city expansion, it has lost it's charm. At one time they had a lively arcade where kids of all ages could be found hanging out. Macy's, Foley's, and Dillard's were among it's main shops, now, most of the anchor stores are gone, the food court is boring, and crowds have dwindled to the point of scarce. The addition of the Alamo Drafthouse Theater is a bright spot and a sign that this mall is not ready to succumb to other competitors just yet. read more

Sure you'll see a few familiar stores ( Bath and Body Works, Victoria's Secret) but seeing as you can find those stores at ANY mall, it's not worth it to come here.
