Went in to get a new fish pole and reel for my son, while the store is huge, there are only a few people that works there. But there was probably like 4 customers there and getting someone to help and ask question was very easy. The person I talk to was helpful and friendly. unfortunately, West Marine has decided to become a high end clothing store that hangs boat parts on the walls not already taken up by boat shoe displays. Their employees are ALL glorified stock boys with little to no knowledge of any their inventory. They have become the Home Depot of boat stores. While none of this is the employees fault, there wasn't one person that I spoke with that was the least bit interested in making sure the correct part was ordered OR if it even was ordered. Defender Marine came to the rescue! They should be thanking you West Marine. And I should be thanking you. You are the best possible advertising they could hope for! It's no wonder that your investors have closed over 20% of your stores. My only regret now is that I can't leave you with a "negative" rating. read more

Huge store, about 2 employees working inside, not very helpful at all, no interest in giving good customer service, was left to twiddle my thumbs at the register for about 45 minutes waiting for someone to finish my interaction since they decided they were just going to abandon the service to go hide on the store floor instead of getting to the bottom of the underlying issue at hand. This store should be avoided if you want to live stress free and be happy. It is a total joke. I ordered and paid for a spray for rust prevention and conversion which they had in an ad but had zero on the shelf. I was told it would be in from the warehouse in a couple of days I called after one week No spray! Called after two weeks No spray! After holding for over 10 minutes I hung up. I called back and a women answered. On hold again for over five minutes. I hung up and called again. Lisa answered and said no one would ship it because it is hazardous,( WTF),! I said fine refund my money. Oh she said I can't because it is a debit card . You mean I have to drive all the way back up there and bring my debit card? Yes she replied. I explained I would never ever shop at West Marine again. In the end Lisa assured me that she would send a refund by mail. Holy Geezuz what a nightmare!!!!!!!! read more

Outstanding customer service here in this store. I had placed an order online that came out shamefully wrong. The associates were really prompt to refund me and were very apologetic about it. Everyone greeted me. The associate who helped with my in-store purchases was very helpful, patient and knowledgeable. Do not go to this store if you actually need each item on your shopping list! Nearly every time I go to this store, they will have ~ 20% of the items "out of stock." I just don't get this business model - mark everything up and don't make the extra cost worth it to the customer by actually having everything in stock. I routinely call ahead and ask: whether the item is in stock and whether they can pull it off the shelf and save it for me. Really - if I can only get some of my items and I would need to wait some days for you to "order it" from your warehouse (so that you can properly stock your shelf), why don't I just buy it on line??? No - I am not demanding that each screw or nut be in stock. How about this - all your boat numbers and letters (I came to buy new registration numbers for my boat and two of the numbers were out of stock), how about your epoxy products, how about all of the bottom paints that you supposedly have in stock (you were missing my boat bottom paint in July, not during the rush of bottom painting season). Your associates are uniformly GREAT - your management is failing to set up a system so that the shelves are stocked. Fail. read more

This is a west marine super store. If they don't have it, you don't need it. Don't expect internet pricing. It's west marine! They stock a huge selection of stainless hardware, have a great inventory of west system products, a good selection of hoses, chain, switches, etc. A quick drive up 93 can keep me out on the water v. the alternative of waiting a few days for a USPS delivery. Sometimes I will go over to the local chandlery but they are always more expensive than west. read more

went to buy a steering cable, they tried to sell me a throttle cable, then after waiting for someone else to finally come and help, he quickly looked and told me they length I need was out of stock, however since the part was 159, I should just buy a whole steering system for 179. I left, and got the part I needed at a store in Wakefield for 109. read more

I visit West Marine in Woburn to buy my husband some speaker for his boat for his birthday and was assisted by the "Manager" (a lady, very young) knew absolutely NOTHING about the products went to the computer to google information on the speakers, took 40mins and came back with nothing!. At the end I pick out some speaker myself, hoping they are the right one if not that he can returned them. Once I got the the registrar she ran me up and the charged me double the price of what the price stated! I left the store went to Braintree store and a nice gentlemen was able to help me out in a very short time gave me some great advise and information. I left super happy...
