Easy to get to with none of the downtown hubbub we usually have to deal with in New Haven. Nice, modern, and clean, with a TON of cheap parking. Two things you should know: There are two parking lots, literally one is on the "other side of the tracks". There's a sky bridge connecting them that spans the tracks. The reason I mention this, is if you are there to pick up an arriving guest, he/she might not be on the same side where you're waiting -so they may have to take the sky bridge over the tracks for you to initiate and complete your greeting hugs and ride home together. Secondly, as great as this station is, they have the worst sound system I ever heard. The announcements were unintelligible to the point of being laughable.

I've used other stations as options for getting to NYC but this may be my go to. The station is clean, modern, bright and provides plenty of parking. It's also easily accessible to the highway. Definitely worth checking out.

Brand new train station with tons of parking on both sides of the tracks (free on weekends!) and an inside smallish terminal that is very clean and bright. There's also an enclosed walkway over the tracks so you can get over to the other side of the station, should you need to. Another plus is that there are no stairs from parking lot to platform so it's really easy when you have a rolling suitcase to lug along. I can't think of any negatives here...it is now my preferred station versus New Haven or even Milford, which has a tiny parking/waiting area and lots of stairs to get to and from the platforms. A win-win all around!

Small sign posted in a display case near the building, didn't see it til my way back out on my return

I just moved to West Haven so this is really my first Metro North experience -- so far so good!

So much easier to come to this station than to go all the way into New Haven!

I have taken the Northeast Regional line and the Acela line. I like the Acela best because you can…read moresnag single seats, but the Northeast Regional has also been wonderful. The Amtrak employees are AMAZING. I've now taken several trips with this same crew, from DC to Baltimore to New Haven. They are SOLID people you feel safe with. For example, I fell asleep once and missed my stop. The conductor/employee helped me off and to find the train to get on to get back to my intended destination. This time around, the employee/conductor told me that I could get off in CT at State Street, which is what was on my ticket, but I would have to stay on the train much longer because they would have to turn around and re-align the trains. He gave me the tip that most passengers get off at Union station (SO close to State Street, it's a negligible distance). Then he took enough care to come back by again to tell me that Union was the next station if I wanted to get off. The cafe car was also wonderful. His credit card machine stopped working. I told him that I had cash, but made the joke that I didn't look forward to walking the LONG walk from the cafe car back to business class to get that cash. He offered to COME TO ME to get the cash later, and he did! Tipped him majorly! Business class is more expensive than coach, we are talking two to three times the price, but you get to choose your seat. On this particular line, it's never been full and I've never had anyone sitting next to me. It's worth it to me, but for some, it may not be. Cafe car has plenty of drinks and snacks. Sandwiches, cheese and cracker trays, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Nothing fancy, but gets the job done. But I can't get over how these guys have seemingly looked out for me and taken care of me on my many trips up and down the rails.

My amtrak to the city was wonderful. We were delayed though thanks to people not complying with the…read moremask mandate they agreed to. The Amtrak on the way back though left a lot to be desired. I unfortunately had to sit across from people and the girl sat with her shoes off on the seats and nobody said anything to her. Now I know to take an even later train the next time.

Uber is the greatest way to travel in NYC!…read more Install the App everyone! I was in NYC this weekend. It was raining. No cabs so I called Uber. WOW! In a sec they told me how many cars in my area, the closest one, how many minutes away. Photo, Name, license plate, color & model of car! I used it three times. No money exchanged hands, everything is done with your account. As long as you have your phone your all set to go!!!! Uber drivers take you anywhere ( nothing is too far & return you later) including NJ, PA... No cab driver moaning about how many fares he'll lose. I am a New Yorker at heart. I know my way around the city very well. Unfortunately there is always construction going on, but I know where I'm going.

The first booking I ever made with Uber, went well. I reserved an Uber several days in advance of a…read moreride to the airport - which is 27/miles from my home (a 31/min ride). The cost was reasonable $36.79 for a 4:30AM pickup on a Thursday. I tipped my driver 25%. My second Uber booking was ultimately a FAILURE. This was my return trip from the airport to my home, two days later on Saturday evening. Landing at 9:30/PM, retrieving baggage and contacting Uber at 10:00/PM. The least expensive Uber was $136.00 and the prices went up according to vehicle. That is "quadruple" what I paid two days earlier. This fee is/was, nothing but a scam and a ripoff. Totally taking advantage of weary travelers who want to get home. I would not pay the fee. I did not book an Uber. I took a taxi for $77.00 which is also expensive - but I had little choice, I paid. I will find other alternatives in the future, like hiring a neighbor.

So these guys have a lock on trapping locals trying to catch a train at Union Station. Here's how…read moreit works: You drive to New Haven to catch a train into Grand Central. (The trains almost always originate at Union Station.) So you drive to the parking garage attached to Union Station (Union Garage) as you have for years and years but now they simply close the garage in the morning regardless of whether there is parking available or not. SO you drive to the only other parking garage, which is only a block and half down the street, Gateway Garage (which you will find is in NO directory or parking guide to NH), wind around to the entrance where you are forced to make a tight right-hand turn into the garage--and as you make that turn the posted parking prices are on the inside of that right-hand turn so you don't see them until you are LEAVING the garage from the other direction. So you park your car, find an exit and hurry over to Union Station to catch your train. You return 26 hours later to pick up your car and know parking should be about $22 dollars. Instead, you are presented with a tab of $36! For heaven's sake, that's more than the round-trip ticket to New York 70 miles away! So beware, all, this is a complete trap and utter rip-off! If you take the train into NYC once a week the "bargain" is to buy a WHOLE MONTHLY PASS at Union Garage for $95 because then they have to let you in the garage even when its always closed! "Wow," I said to the poor guy at the cashier booth at Gateway Garage, "more than I pay for parking in Manhattan." "That's what everybody says," he said, taking my credit card. "So what do normal people do?" I asked him. "Sometimes they walk to the office over there and just start screaming," he said hopefully (but tactfully). (Jobs in Central CT are extremely hard to get)
