We've also taken the train to Yankee Stadium and Citi Field, which is so convenient! I love going to New York, but I definitely don't love driving there, so taking the train is perfect. Overall, the station is pretty clean and convenient. My only complaint is that lately it seems like every time it rains, there are delays. Other than that, I really enjoy having the option to take the train, especially for trips into New York without having to deal with the traffic and parking.

Tickets are easy to purchase, and Metro-North trains run frequently throughout the day, making it a convenient option. Food choices are limited, there is a Dunkin Donuts and a Subway. I do like the Subway here for a quick flatbread to take on the train. I like like the old architecture and this station has some beautiful historical elements. The original station dates back to 1848. That structure was replaced by a new building in 1875, which burned down in 1928. Two years later the current station opened. Parking at the station lot or garage has always been available, only once did we have to use a different garage across the street. Overall, we find it easier, more flexible and a much better value to use the Metro-North out of New Haven Union Station than the Amtrak out of Providence.

Giving option of heat but not having it work just seems a bit counterintuitive. The TVs throughout the station with the train schedules are very helpful, considering the train schedule changes very often and the printed ones aren't typically accurate.

The Amtrak employees are AMAZING. I've now taken several trips with this same crew, from DC to Baltimore to New Haven. They are SOLID people you feel safe with. For example, I fell asleep once and missed my stop. The conductor/employee helped me off and to find the train to get on to get back to my intended destination. This time around, the employee/conductor told me that I could get off in CT at State Street, which is what was on my ticket, but I would have to stay on the train much longer because they would have to turn around and re-align the trains. He gave me the tip that most passengers get off at Union station (SO close to State Street, it's a negligible distance). Then he took enough care to come back by again to tell me that Union was the next station if I wanted to get off. The cafe car was also wonderful. His credit card machine stopped working. I told him that I had cash, but made the joke that I didn't look forward to walking the LONG walk from the cafe car back to business class to get that cash. He offered to COME TO ME to get the cash later, and he did! Tipped him majorly! Business class is more expensive than coach, we are talking two to three times the price, but you get to choose your seat. On this particular line, it's never been full and I've never had anyone sitting next to me. It's worth it to me, but for some, it may not be. Cafe car has plenty of drinks and snacks. Sandwiches, cheese and cracker trays, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Nothing fancy, but gets the job done. But I can't get over how these guys have seemingly looked out for me and taken care of me on my many trips up and down the rails.

---Short Version--- Going from a CT to LGA was better than…read moremy experience going from LGA to CT. I'd try a different service if the other reviews haven't already convinced you, but realistically... I wouldn't expect any similar service to be on time, based on all the awful reviews about NYC airport shuttles. Not worth it unless you have tons of time to spare. (See also the Alternative Routes section below.) ---CT to LGA--- Based on the many terrible reviews, I booked a reservation for 7am on a Thursday. My flight was at 10:50am. At 7:10 I called customer service, and a guy picked up and said it'd come in 5-10 minutes and left it at that. I waited until 7:20am, getting increasingly nervous, until I called again. The lady who picked up this time was far more helpful, as she put me on hold for a few mins to actually call the driver, then told me the driver was coming in 7-10 minutes. Lo and behold, 7 anxious minutes later I saw the shuttle and was really relieved. Overall the shuttle from CT to LGA was late by 30 minutes. Not the worst wait compared to my return trip. The driver was a very positive, good-natured guy, and he gave the impression that he was confident he'd get us all to the airport on time. His friendly attitude made the 2 hours of lurching stop-and-go traffic bearable although he could've driven more smoothly as I felt a little nauseous. I still tipped the driver a good amount. Anyway, I got to the airport at 9:30 so it was decent timing. 3 stars. ---LGA to CT--- My flight into LGA arrived at 9:15pm on a Friday night. I booked a reservation for them to pick me up at 10pm. I talked to the airport agent and they said I was here, and communication seemed great. However, turned out I waited an unbearable TWO HOURS at the airport. I get it, traffic is bad and unavoidable. But it couldn't hurt for them to be upfront about how many more passengers they had to pick up before me. Bless the airport agent for chatting with me to pass the indefinite amount of time I waited for the shuttle, and for consistently asking the company for status updates. CT Limo on the other end kept saying 30 mins, then after 30 minutes was up, it was 40 more mins, etc. I thought it'd never come, yet I'd already sacrificed $66. Yes, it came at midnight to finally pick me up. Driver apologized because he was a good human being, then put my suitcase in the back and we drove speedily back to CT without any traffic, thank goodness. There did seem to be a miscommunication between the company and the information the driver got; he thought I was getting off at a totally different stop and missed the first exit on the highway until I spoke up about it. But it was fine, just a 10 minute delay, and I finally got to my drop off location. I tipped him because he drove quickly and safely, and he still helped me with my luggage. I also felt really bad for him because he was probably (and hopefully) the last shift, and shuttling people around so late on a Friday night deserves some appreciation, which he was clearly not expecting. ---Overall--- CT Limo's lack of proper communication with their customers and drivers is appalling. There's zero transparency and clearly no attempts to improve its services or even change customer expectations by saying "plan for the trip to take 2.5-3 hours during rush hour." The drivers I've had were nice, and it sucks they have to deal with a company that probably underpays them for driving people back and forth in heavy NYC traffic. I would recommend taking this service from CT to NY, but not from NY to CT because traffic will just compile as the shuttle has to pick up every person at each stop. Also know that the company doesn't seem to care what time your scheduled pick up was, or even to tell you more information (e.g. # customers left to pick up) than a totally inaccurate time estimate. ---Some Alternative Routes--- Next time, I might try Go Shuttle (around same price), or take the train to Grand Central and take the NYC Airporter bus (~$30 one way, but only from 11am-7pm). While it's impossible to expect any NYC airport shuttle services to be on time, I can at least hope they have better service and more cars to send out so a customer doesn't have to wait until they fall asleep standing in the seatless LGA terminal.

(The trains almost always originate at Union Station.) So you drive to the parking garage attached to Union Station (Union Garage) as you have for years and years but now they simply close the garage in the morning regardless of whether there is parking available or not. SO you drive to the only other parking garage, which is only a block and half down the street, Gateway Garage (which you will find is in NO directory or parking guide to NH), wind around to the entrance where you are forced to make a tight right-hand turn into the garage--and as you make that turn the posted parking prices are on the inside of that right-hand turn so you don't see them until you are LEAVING the garage from the other direction. So you park your car, find an exit and hurry over to Union Station to catch your train. You return 26 hours later to pick up your car and know parking should be about $22 dollars. Instead, you are presented with a tab of $36! For heaven's sake, that's more than the round-trip ticket to New York 70 miles away! So beware, all, this is a complete trap and utter rip-off! If you take the train into NYC once a week the "bargain" is to buy a WHOLE MONTHLY PASS at Union Garage for $95 because then they have to let you in the garage even when its always closed! "Wow," I said to the poor guy at the cashier booth at Gateway Garage, "more than I pay for parking in Manhattan." "That's what everybody says," he said, taking my credit card. "So what do normal people do?" I asked him. "Sometimes they walk to the office over there and just start screaming," he said hopefully (but tactfully). (Jobs in Central CT are extremely hard to get)
