After a neighborhood garage quoted us $1800 to fix our '98 Jetta I called West German Garage for an estimate

My husband used to use them for oil changes every now and again and for fixing a few minor issues here and there. However, my husband's car recently began overheating on his way to work. When he got to work, he thought he had a crack in his radiator and needed a new one. A coworker who likes to work on cars took a look at his car during lunch break and said the same thing. He called a few of our usual repair shops to get prices and got quoted an average of $350. He decided to take a risk with Auto Way, and we're so glad he did. They charged a very reasonable price of $200 and had his car repaired in a few hours. Coincidentally my car had been due for scheduled maintenance a week or two prior and I had called tons of shops to compare prices for a new timing belt. I was told at almost every shop that I should replace the water pump at the same time, and quoted an average of $650-$850 between 4 shops. I picked a shop that ended up charging $700 and had the work done there. When my husband went to pick his car after the radiator was replaced at Auto Way, he asked what the cost for a new timing belt for my car would be. They also told him it was advisable to replace the water pump, and quoted him $500. This place is NOT fancy. It's a hole in the wall place off a side road and seems a bit sketchy. There's even a few chickens hanging around the lot. But these guys seem like honest folks who charge a fair price and do things right. We'll be bringing our cars there for all maintenance and repairs from now on. I'll update this review if my opinion ever changes (it has before with auto mechanic shops), but I have high hopes for a lasting relationship with Auto Way.

The mechanic listened, asked good follow-up questions, made sure he understood the problem before drawing any conclusions, and then diagnosed it cleanly. The part arrived within the window he quoted (2-3 hours), was installed without fuss, and the final bill was reasonable. What stood out as much as the technical work: he flagged a slow coolant leak and a minor oil leak -- this is an older car, so neither was a shock -- but there was no pressure to pile on services. He showed me rough estimates so I'd have them when I'm ready and left the decisions to me. That kind of straightforward, no-upsell approach is rarer than it should be. The waiting area is a genuine plus: free wifi, a table big enough to work at, and a small fridge with complimentary drinks, large TV. My one suggestion would be to add a coffee in the AM. Also, the door to the reception currently reads "B". Might want to avoid any confusion with better signage. That said, I am a big fan of this establishment and will be using them for repairs in the future (apparently sooner than I want :) Bonus: he pointed me to a wonderful Indian place across the street, Biryani, which I'd highly recommend if you have time to kill while your car is being worked on.

From the moment they answer the phone with "How can I serve you?", you can tell customer service is at the heart of what they do. Steve is usually the person I work with, and he has always been fantastic to deal with. The team is incredibly transparent throughout the entire process and takes the time to show videos and pictures of anything they recommend for your vehicle. What I appreciate most is that they never use pressure or scare tactics to push unnecessary repairs. They're honest, straightforward, and truly treat you like family instead of just another customer walking through the door. It's hard to find an auto shop you can fully trust these days, but Christian Brothers has absolutely earned ours.

When I called Christian Brothers, I had the pleasure of speaking with Heidi. She was very helpful from the 1st phone call, and throughout the whole process. I was able to bring my car in right away and they got to it the next day. After a thorough inspection, I was sent multiple videos and pictures of the findings, along with a breakdown and prioritizing what my car needed. Again, Heidi was very knowledgeable and walked me through step-by-step answering all my questions. She was very patient, kind and understanding while I made decisions. It can be overwhelming dealing with car problems and I really appreciated their help and will be back!

Later that evening, they called with a repair estimate of $2,156 to replace the radiator fan, thermostat, and tires, plus $309 just to refill the antifreeze. When I called to ask about alternatives, they only reduced the price by $20. That felt excessive, so I decided to get a second opinion. I ended up going to NC Complete Auto Care, where the radiator fan was replaced for $881. They didn't charge for refilling the antifreeze and said the thermostat wasn't an issue and did not need to be replaced. They also let me know I could safely wait on the tires for a couple more months. I appreciated the transparency and will be taking my business there from now on. I can't recommend Cary Car Care based on my experience.

No call or text Wednesday 10/23/24 so I called at the end of the day and was told they hadn't started working on the car yet but I was in the queue for the work to be done in the morning. I called today Thursday 10/24/24 and they still hadn't touched the car! And that's when the mechanic told me the appt. was for the 30th. I realize it was my mistake on the scheduling but why didn't the check in lady tell me I had the day wrong? And why didn't someone notice yesterday when the car was sitting there all day? And why did they say the car was in queue to be worked on in the morning? I'm on my way out of town for a family emergency and this messed me up so badly. I've been calling all over to see if I could get a rush job on the work. Really terrible service and I will never go back here or recommend them. Update: I appreciate the businesses response but there was another aspect of this situation that bothered me. When I realize the date mistake I asked the guy who answered the phone if they could squeeze me in. He said: if someone who has an appointment doesn't show up or cancels we can get you in. But I can't make any guarantees. I kind of expected that he'd try to see if he could accommodate me but he just said sorry...can't do anything. And I would feel differently if he had at least shown some empathy.

That relieves an incredible amount of anxiety on our part. They don't make a repair which is unnecessary. They don't try to scare you into agreeing to have expensive, unneeded repairs figuring that the anxiety of not having them done would encourage you to OK them. They don't continually try to up sell you on unneeded services as many dealership service departments do. They even verified that new tires that our tire dealer said that we needed were not needed now because the current tires were fine wrt tread wear and other features. More anxiety relief. They also do top-quality repairs. We have taken our two vehicles there for the past three years, one of which is almost 30 years old. Some repairs appeared to us that they may be undoable but they have solved every problem. They only use manufacturer replacement parts which may cost a little more or delay a repair but are likely to last much longer than using cheap generic parts but then charging the manufacture prices. Their labor charges are entirely reasonable. The manager, Will, is incredibly knowledgeable and capable of running a three-ring circus if needed. Because of their outstanding service, it is typical to have to wait a couple of weeks for an appointment.
