I visited West Elm at Scottsdale Quarter this afternoon around 11:30-12:00, hoping to get some assistance styling a sofa table with accessories from the store. Unfortunately, the experience was so dismissive and uncomfortable that I left without purchasing anything. When I arrived, there appeared to be a manager and two younger employees near the desk. I explained that I was looking for some design assistance and asked who was responsible for creating the displays throughout the store, thinking that person might be able to help me put together a cohesive look. The woman I spoke with actually laughed and responded, essentially, that he does not provide design help and "he's not going to help you." Her tone was unnecessarily rude and condescending. When I asked whether anyone else could assist me, she gestured toward the two employees at the desk and asked which one of them wanted to help me style my sofa table. The two looked at each other as though neither particularly wanted to take the task, and one openly said she did not feel comfortable doing it. The other eventually agreed. Unfortunately, what followed wasn't really design assistance. We walked around while she randomly pointed to different objects and suggested, "You could do this" or "you could do that." I wasn't looking for someone to simply point out merchandise--I can certainly select individual objects myself. I specifically came to West Elm because I wanted someone with an artistic eye to help me create a thoughtful, cohesive arrangement using products from their store. I explained that at another home furnishings store, an associate had previously helped me select pieces and even made a quick sketch showing how to arrange them on my table. It was a simple gesture, but incredibly helpful and ultimately encouraged me to purchase the pieces. Her response was to laugh and say, "No, we don't do that." At that point, I thanked her and said I would return to the other store. What disappointed me most was not that they couldn't provide the exact service I was looking for. A simple, gracious explanation would have been completely understandable. It was the collective attitude--the laughing, the coldness, the lack of interest in helping, and the overall sense that my request was somehow ridiculous. Interestingly, after leaving I called a friend who recently purchased a new home and has also been shopping for furnishings and accessories. When I described my experience and who was working, she immediately told me she had experienced virtually the same treatment from the same staff. For a brand built around design, inspiration, and creating beautiful spaces, I expected a much more welcoming and service-oriented experience. I walked in genuinely intending to purchase accessories for my home and walked out feeling belittled for simply asking for design guidance. There are far too many beautiful home stores with employees who are enthusiastic about helping customers to spend money somewhere that makes you feel unwelcome for asking for assistance. My wife and I ordered our couch months in advance, the couch was ultimately delivered 3 months after the estimate delivery date. We have contacted west elm a total of 10-12 times and having to wait anywhere from 20 min to 2 hours just to talk to someone and get answers. The couch was delayed 3 times without any notification from the company. After each delivery day passed with no couch we were always having to call the company to get an updated delivery date. That also wasn't the only issue. We ordered 6 chairs from them and the company only delivered 5 out of the 6 and now we have to wait 3-4 extra months to receive our full order. West Elm had several lamps to consider. While we didn't buy from them, they do have a good selection. We bought our lamp at another store and now seems West Elm has more selection. I picked up a great Christmas present for my sister in law at this west elm! I love wandering the store, they have a great selection and I always enjoy seeing how they design various sections of the space. The furniture and decor pieces are great quality. I picked up a unique candlestick + some candles to go with it and she loved them! The staff was a little dismissive, and I wish they offered to gift wrap (at least during the holiday season). I have visited this location several times, and unfortunately, each experience has been more disappointing than the last. I ordered a couch with an estimated delivery window of late May to early June. I was later notified that the delivery had been moved up which was an exciting surprise. However, the day before delivery, I received a voicemail from the warehouse informing me that the couch had been damaged. While I understand that damages can happen, I was disappointed that there was no follow-up communication after that initial message, despite being told there would be. When I called back few days later, my experience with the representative was frustrating. The interaction felt dismissive, and there was little effort made to acknowledge the inconvenience. I was told that my only options were to accept the damaged item or refuse delivery and go through the process of returning and repurchasing the couch. Given the cost, I found this resolution unsatisfactory. Since the original delivery timeline extended into June, it seemed reasonable to expect a replacement to be arranged within that window rather than placing the burden on the customer. Gosh, I have had TWO negative experiences here in the last 6 weeks. First time was in November when we were going to pick out new dining chairs. We were asking for different fabric samples and one of the female designers was so incredibly rude. There was another designer sitting in the back at the high top desk/table that you could tell felt bad. Oh well, we took our business elsewhere. I was back yesterday after an order of mine had been canceled so I popped in to see if I could find a similar product in store. If I could give zero stars, I would. SIX MONTHS of my time wasted. In a brief description, I was up sold credit cards with incorrect rewards information. I was sold a couch with the wrong side chaise and wrong material - waited months to find all this out. No call, no text, no show to the first scheduled delivery. Literally just ghosted on my scheduled delivery date. Sent in circles a dozen times. Finally, when the couch arrived, it was made in the wrong material and way smaller than it was in the store, looked like it was made from Temu. AWFUL!!! (See photos) The communication between the store and the hub where these products come into is atrocious nobody is on the same page you get different stories each time. West Elm delivered two beds to me with the wrong hardware and left me with two bedrooms filled with bed parts as the delivery people could not assemble the beds. They then informed me that it would take over 2 month to get the bolts. I went to a hardware store and bought the bolts needed and assembled the beds myself. I spent hours dealing with their customer service and an afternoon of my own time doing the assembly that they got paid for. DO NOT SHOP HERE - Worst Customer Service Experience Ever I spent over $400 on a mirror that was delivered damaged, with a broken frame. I reached out immediately and was told a replacement would be sent, and the broken mirror would be picked up. When the pickup team showed up, they said they were only there to take the broken mirror, and the new one would arrive later. Thankfully, my husband told me not to hand over the broken one until the new one arrived -- because it never did. It's been six weeks of back-and-forth with their so-called customer service, which is truly a nightmare. I've spent over 2-3 hours across six phone calls, getting transferred, placed on long holds, and repeatedly hung up on when I asked to speak with a supervisor. No resolution, no follow-up, no accountability. I'm not writing this over $50 or $70. I'm someone who regularly shops with brands like Crate & Barrel and never had issues like this. This was about principle and honesty. They sent me a damaged item and are now ignoring their responsibility to fix it. As of today, I still have a broken mirror on my wall and no replacement in sight. Their customer service is disorganized, dismissive, and dishonest. Wow! How does this place stay in business?!? We visited the store on Black Friday looking for a bedroom set. We saw the items online but wanted to see in person. Found floor samples and decided we loved what we saw. We still needed to double check measurements at home though. We spoke to a store associate regarding whether it would benefit them if we ordered in person or should we just order online. She said that "the store"prefers people purchase in store. No problem! We went home, measured and returned a few days later to purchase in store. The store was empty on a Saturday early afternoon. Maybe 4 people looking around. The staff had their heads in books and what not behind the counter with one staff member pouring over who knows what on the computer in the fabric swatch area. We apparently suddenly became invisible. We wandered around, people looked right at us, one associate walked right by us as he just absentmindedly meandered around. Amazing! Actually glad that happened because we came home with every intention to order everything online but decided to check reviews on Yelp first. Apparently in addition to lousy customer service, products were subpar as well. My sister and I walked into the store yesterday 30 minutes before closing and were the only customers in the store. There were two female employees present who both stayed behind the counter and saw us, but never greeted us or even acknowledged our existence. Music was turned off 20 minutes before closing. We went to Pottery Barn right after and the difference was night and day. We were warmly greeted at the door and offered assistance by the two employees present even with multiple customers in the store. A lot to be said about West Elm furniture quality. Ordered a $3500 Andes chaise sectional and regret it greatly. Back cushions are misshapen and lumpy with uneven seams providing no back support. Upon leaning against them my back hits the hard back frame. After only two months seat cushions started sagging to the point where they are so flattened they extend beyond the frame. And it's all with very light 130lbs one person use. Opened a claim with West Elm and was told all this is due to wear! After 7 months. Andes is advertised as 4/5 firmness contract level furniture but what had arrived is nowhere close to that. Low quality materials that do not last. What you get to sit on in their showroom is not the same product you receive. read more

We recently purchased a home and we decided to buy all new indoor furniture, bedding, pillows, window covers, rugs as well as furniture for our patio. We are so pleased with the selection and the quality of our purchases. We ordered most of the items online, the purchase was easy to navigate online. The items were delivered with care and some of the items that needed to be assembled were assembled in the rooms which was a plus. Don't forget to tip the drivers especially if they set up and assemble your furniture. I highly recommend West Elm for timeless furnishings. BTW, the Santa Monica CA. store was amazing! read more

I whole heartedly agree with a couple of the other reviewers. My wife and I have been shopping for a new sectional. We went online and saw one on West Elm's website. On sale for $1,800. YIKES! We really liked the appearance of it, but there's not a snowball's chance in Hell that I'm buying a sectional sight unseen online without even seeing it in person, much less actually sitting on it. We called the Scottsdale store ahead of time and verified they had one on their showroom floor. The parking garage is tight, cramped, dingy and dark. Once we were out of the elevator that smelled like a cross between old gym socks and rotten pumpkins, we were back at ground level and in fresh air - thank goodness! The store exterior was clean as was the interior. An employee did immediately recognize our entrance which was good. We made our way to the sofa we saw online. OK. So as luck would have it, the sofa online we saw on sale was unfortunately, quite isolated. I shall explain... - The sofa comes in a small and large size. The sale price specifically applies to the small size. - The depth of the cushions comes in a regular size and a more comfortable, extra deep size. The sale price only applies to the regular size. - The sofa comes in a plethora of fabrics, but unfortunately, the sale price only applies to the super scratchy and less comfortable wool / polyester blend. Eeeeeew. - The sofa comes in a plethora of colors, but the only colors that apply to the sale price are a bland color called Whole Grain Oatmeal or something to that effect and a second color called Doo Doo Brown or some thing like that. Now... when you incorporate a more pleasing fabric, a different color, the deeper cushions and the overall length that is a little larger - you've officially gone from $1,800 to upwards of $2,700. The fact you're spending that kinda cash on a sofa means nothing because shipping is not complimentary like it is at most stores. They're going to ding you for another $229 just to get the sofa to your driveway. If you opt NOT to take the Oatmeal or Doo Doo Brown color, it is automatically considered "custom" and unfortunately, custom orders cannot be returned. You order it. You own it. No returns regardless of how much you kick or scream. Never did get a straight answer on their warranty except we were reassured by a lady at a desk "they stand behind their products". I asked for clarification, but she essentially repeated herself. So I'm spending almost $3,000, there's essentially no warranty except for the woman behind a desk telling me they stand behind their products. meh. My wife and I are gonna roll the dice and order from Wayfair. Warranty, Guarantee and Free Shipping. I nay not be able to touch it and see it before we buy, but their guarantee makes it a win/win situation. I really wanted to like West Elm, but they clearly cater to a certain level of clientele. We were lied to about a mirror delivery by James and accused of being the "right now Instagram generation demanding things come instantly". No one has Instagram here. In fact, my mom placed the order online and followed up with the store. She is 80. To be clear: We placed an order for a mirror in February. It arrived damaged. We asked for an exchange and even dropped it off at the store. It's now June and the mirror has not arrived. An email was sent stating that it could be possibly September. We also received confusing emails about them processing additional payments for the mirror that was already paid for. We have spent over 7 hours between store visits and customer service to have no clarity on a delivery. No one at the store or in customer service can give us a straight answer. I was told by Anthony, a customer service supervisor, that the mirror was coming from DC. But they have no idea when it would arrive. WTF!? Something is wrong with this whole picture. read more

We really like West Elm, which is part of the Williams-Sonoma retailing empire. West Elm is geared for a more upscale urban living and was originally focused on folks living in lofts. So you see smaller furniture items and more knick knacks. But don't be fooled into thinking this is just another inexpensive Pier One. It's not. Like I said, it's part of Williams-Sonoma and the quality is outstanding. We would highly recommend you consider being added to their email list, if only because it comes with a 10% off coupon on your first purchase. After that they will tip you off to upcoming sales. I ordered a desk back in July. West Elm uses a company called Ryder First Mile to deliver their merchandise to the customer. Here's what happen to me. Ordered the desk, waited for it to be shipped and scheduled it for delivery mid-August. Took off work to make time to accept the delivery. No call, no show. I spent about five hours on the phone with both Ryder and West Elm. After numerous "dock searches" and about a week and a half it was clear that Ryder lost the package. West Elm put in an order to replace it. Fast forward to today, the date of the second shipment (same desk). I get a call at about noon saying Ryder will be about 45 minutes late, putting them at 3:45pm. Okay, fine. At about 4:30pm I call 18 times. I am hung up on before I even get to speak. I call West Elm, who is on hold with Ryder for about 45 minutes. I'm told that they will not be delivering the desk today and they cannot reschedule because the local distribution center is now closed, which must not have been true because Ryder calls me at about 6:30pm to reschedule. They tell me they will have it here by 8:00pm today. No call. No show. I have purchased a fairly expensive piece of furniture that comes with "white glove service." For my money I have lost about 12 hours of work time. I have spent about 6 hours on the phone trying to locate or reschedule shipments. For my trouble, West Elm has offered me a 15% refund on the desk. If you need to have an item shipped through West Elm, don't. Go somewhere else. Read through the comments, apparently I'm not alone. Oh yeah, the "white glove service" cost upwards of $300.00, over 50% of the item itself. So you can pay $300.00, or more to have people hang up on you, not answer the phone and get a full voicemail box, making it impossible to contact the local distribution center. Unless they call you. Which they don't. So, you can call the national customer service line, which on several occasions has had me wait 45+ minutes just to speak with someone. Then they are rude, and don't do anything about your problem. I could ramble on about this for a long, long time. I have never in my life been so frustrated with such a simple request. All items but one were packaged nicely in the boxes except one vase that was in a handle bag with no protection. Of course, by the time I got home the vase was broken. I spent thousands in the last few months at west elm furnishing a few homes and you would think he would want to make this one $50 vase situation right but no. They were not going to do anything about it until we called. This is a $5000 couch we are talking about. For that price we should have gone custom from Ethan Allen. They only offered 10% off after saying 10-20... We definitely did not feel like they made their mistakes right. We had spent over $15,000 at their store this year. Never shopping there again. Today we were seriously disrespected and mistreated by the employee who might be James/John at this west elm store located in Scottsdale quarters. We've been dealing with this store issue since February. We ordered over $16,000 worth of furniture from here. When we ordered those items, we already told the salesperson named Taylor that since we had already moved in, we needed the furniture to be delivered no later than early March, and Taylor promised us we would receive everything as soon as possible. We were trying to reach out to Taylor but she was having days off at that period. So we went back to the store in March, and another salesperson named Martin helped us to process a refund for the two benches and one King size Mattress,(They said the three kitchen stools and one Queen bed frame are eligible for a refund since they're made to order which we never got told when we ordered them, that's another story) , Martin promised us we will receive the refund check within 14 days, and Martin provided an email saying we should be receiving the check by March 29. However, today, which is April 3rd, marked the 14th business day, and we still haven't received the check so we decided to visit the store again to find out what's going on. Today, 4/3/2023, around 2 pm, we stepped into the store and two caucasian employees saw us and did not greet us. Then this caucasian male who said his name was John(we strongly doubt he might be the store manager James he just gave us a fake name) who appeared to be 50-60 years old with a bald head asked what we were doing there, with an indifferent attitude. We asked him politely if we were looking for Martin or Taylor, and he went into the room behind the cashier. About 5 minutes later, he went out with a really bad attitude, he told us he is not going to go through anything at this time, and we were trying to explain the situation politely and gently, but John/James just kept talking and talking and cutting our sentences. Also, the way he talks is very rude and aggressive, and he kept saying he was done with us and will not take any action to help us, mind you my husband and I are Chinese so English is not our first language, at this moment, we feel deeply disrespected and insulted, I realized that John/James is using his native speaker power to force us to shut up and stop to protect our rights. I was shocked and I asked if he was the store manager and he said "no, of course not", which he later admitted he was actually some associate manager. Then I proceeded with " Then why are you talking to us, why can't we talk to Martin or Taylor? The way you talk to us is very rude and this made us feel sick." Then this guy had the audacity to say " you can file a complaint whatever" then I told him I feel like he is being racist since we were being very polite and respectful, and there is no need to treat customers like this. He then said half of his family are Korean, blah blah blah, which was irrelevant and could not be proof that he is not racist when he is certainly acting weird. Then we told him, if anyone disrespects us like this we will seek legal help, and he said go ahead while saying using a disgusting attitude. I went to return a throw blanket at 6:57pm. The doors were locked. The store closes at 7:00pm. I waited by the door until a guest came out ( it's illegal to lock the doors while guests are in the building) at 7:00 on the dot a staff member told me they were closed and could not return item because the cash registers were closed down. Well that's a lie. As a few people were still checking out. I said I had been waiting prior to seven but the door was locked early. She said we close at seven and closed and locked the door on me. Wow. I have never been treated so poorly in my life. My friend and I were so excited to come to West Elm because we are both having homes built. My friend and I don't dress fancy, and I am sure to the outside observer, we don't look like we have money, but regardless, there is t any reason to not be treated by a single one of the four employees that were just standing there when we arrived. And yes, they saw us, because they briefly made eye contact with us. We were in the store for probably 20 minutes and not one person greeted us or asked us if we needed help. And when we left, no one said goodbye. Little did they know that my friend had picked put about $5000 worth of furniture online at West Elm and we were coming to see it in person.
