Among several other positive things, WCWMA-Campbell helped improve our son's level of self-confidence.

If you're skimming reviews, then I'll just say that my family is grateful to have West Coast World Martial Arts in Campbell (WCWMA-Campbell) in our lives. Background - It was happenstance that we came across WCWMA-Campbell. At the time, our young son's Southwest YMCA summer camp was to go to a martial arts business across the street from WCWMA-Campbell. However, there was some scheduling conflict between the YMCA people and the studio across the street. The summer camp instructors noticed WCWMA-Campbell across the street and decided to inquire about availability. Luckily, WCWMA-Campbell was able to take the kids. The little ones started working toward earning their white belt in a ceremony at the end of the week. Our son liked the experience, so we asked him if he wanted to continue. He said, "Yes," so we signed him up. Our son went on to earn a 2nd-Degree Black Belt. Along the way, my wonderful wife decided she would like to start taking classes, too. She's now a 5th-Degree Black Belt. Now, whenever I travel, I always like to have at least one Black Belt with me. (-: I'm grateful for the things WCWMA-Campbell brought to our family: 1. Improved self-confidence 2. A sense of belonging 3. A sense of achievement 4. Discipline and focus 5. Enhanced self-esteem Plus, the WCWMA-Campbell community is wonderful, welcoming, and inspiring. I recommend giving them a try. They have programs for kids, teens, and adults.

When my son started at West Coast Martial Arts at the age of six, I was primarily into kickboxing and hadn't considered other martial arts. Seeing how organized and effective the program was, my husband and I could easily imagine our son thriving. This family-like atmosphere and the program's structure tempted me to step into a new world I had never considered--training towards a black belt. I started as a white belt, drawn not only to the physical challenge but also to the core values of honor, loyalty, bravery, family, and love that were embodied by everyone at the dojo. These weren't just concepts; they were principles we lived by every day, pushing us to grow and embrace discipline in our pursuit of mastery. Progressing to a fourth-degree black belt has been a journey of personal and community growth, supported by mentors like Great Grand Master Ernie Reyes and dedicated peers. The skills I've learned here go beyond martial arts--they're life skills that have transformed my outlook and achievements. West Coast Martial Arts isn't just about learning to fight. It's about personal development, supporting each other, and being part of a community that values strength of character. From practicing techniques to helping organize school events, I've found incredible support and friendship here. Attached are photos marking key milestones in my martial arts journey--from my early days training with my son, to my second-degree black belt graduation, to celebrating my fifth-degree achievement with my team. Each image captures a step in a journey that has enriched my life deeply. If you're looking for more than just martial arts training, join us at West Coast Martial Arts. It's a place where every challenge is an opportunity to grow stronger together.

We love WCWMA Campbell, this place is AMAZING! Our daughter started in March 2024 and although she was only 3 and half, she's thriving and developing confidence, discipline and physical endurance. The instructors are STELLAR. KJN Hector exudes a passion for martial arts and a deep love for teaching the little ones. He balances lots of fun and teaching skillful technique in a masterful way. Our daughter is 4 now and has progressed to the advanced little dragons and KJN Joao and Daniel have been wonderful and very encouraging. We've been so happy we found this karate studio and have forged great relationships with other students and their families. This studio is a total family-friendly environment, they have lots of fun events they put on for the community. We can't say enough positive things about WCWMA Campbell. It's the best!!!

We LOVE this place!! My kids attended two birthday parties and a trial class with a friend. We signed up the same day! My kids are now purple belts and just competed in their first tournament. To say we love it here and the instructor's would be an understatement. Friendly, informative, and a positive staff make this such a fun place to be at everyday!

    Sparring time!

Both of my kids come here, they love it here they feel safe and always included. I am happy we have this community and the Instructors are all amazing

My daughter has been enrolled for around 4 months now and she absolutely loves the classes. The instructors are caring and especially great with children, and is a big part of why my daughter (and other kids) love coming to class. They encourage her in many ways that always puts a smile on her face and drives her to excel. The curriculum and instructors not only teach martial arts, they also emphasize discipline, focus, and respect. Highly recommended for kids to give it a try!

WCWMA Campbell has been a great experience for our family of four. We have collectively trained with the instructors for more than 5 years and have all attained 1st degree over the past 1.5 years. My kids enjoy training with their teammates and working with their teachers, learning new techniques and skills. As adults, my wife and I were given accommodations as we trained through injuries to keep pace with our teammates while always maintaining the standards of the association. It may look intimidating, but the family atmosphere is real and welcoming. KJN Margie, KJN Daniel, and KJN Joao push you to get past your own limits while passing on the skills and standards they were taught.

I asked about the program and they didn't have any helpful context to share about it but they told us to just stay and watch. In addition to the disappointment we experienced from the staff, the studio itself was disgustingly dirty. We switched seats because we noticed a layer of grime on the several seats and left early when we saw that it was a dirty studio throughout. Avoid Batata Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu…read more My son (almost 12) has trained Brazilian jiu-jitsu for 4.5 years. We visited simply to evaluate whether this gym would be a good fit. Within minutes, it was clear the kids class was made up almost entirely of much younger, much smaller beginners. That's not a criticism--it's just not an appropriate training environment for an older, experienced kid who needs the right partners to develop safely. I asked if there were other classes or days with a different mix. I was told this was essentially it. So I politely said it wasn't the right fit and thanked them for their time. That should have been the end of the interaction. Instead, Mr. Batata himself--not just a coach, but the owner--became immediately confrontational in tone, stepped into my personal space, and began making assumptions about why we were considering switching gyms, as if we were doing something wrong by even looking. He then launched into how this "isn't just a business," implying I should somehow structure my life around loyalty to a gym--despite the fact that we were there for the first time and simply trying to make the best decision for my son. It was unreasonable and completely out of line. I calmly explained that we take this very seriously and that changing gyms is a big decision. That didn't matter--he dismissed it and continued with an aggressive, condescending tone. As I was leaving with my son, he kept talking at me, and another instructor joined in. At that point, it crossed from uncomfortable into completely unprofessional. No parent should have to walk their child out of a business while being talked at for simply saying "this isn't the right fit." The entire interaction left both me and my son feeling unsettled and, honestly, a bit icky. That's not something I've ever experienced walking into a jiu-jitsu academy before. This wasn't a misunderstanding. This was the owner reacting poorly to a polite "no," and doing so in front of a child. If this is the tone set at the top, it raises serious concerns about the culture and judgment being modeled in that gym. We walked in open-minded. We walked out uncomfortable. There are plenty of gyms that know how to treat people with basic respect. This is not one of them. Avoid

My experience with their kids' program has been nothing short of exceptional, hats off to the incredible instructor, Travis! From day one, it was evident that Travis was not only highly skilled in Krav Maga but also knew the knack of teaching and working with children. Whether a child was struggling with a technique or excelling at it, Travis was present very watchfully, providing guidance, support, and positive reinforcement. One of the things that stood out to me the most was Travis's ability to create a supportive and encouraging environment for the kids. Moreover, he has a unique talent for breaking down complex techniques into simple, easy-to-understand steps, making it accessible and observable for children of all skill levels. What stood out to me in particular was his own values, principles and attitude which in my opinion are of paramount importance especially while teaching life skills to others. Beyond his technical expertise, Travis also instilled important values such as team work, discipline, respect, and self-confidence in the children. Through his teaching, my child not only gained valuable self-defense skills but also developed a sense of empowerment and self-assurance that extends beyond the mat. Beth, who is also an instructor and helps with the front desk, is extremely patient and helpful with any questions and a great teacher herself from the classes I've observed!
