Every time we caught big fish or harvested an elk or deer we stopped and Emma and Stu would take a picture and put it on the wall with years of other photos... They were so will stocked I rarely had to run to Lewiston for any sporting goods equipment. I would call Emma on my dad's birthday and buy him a gift certificate for gas for his boat...I mean what else do you get the guy who has everything? I knew the old owners sold the business but I continued to purchase from this business out of loyalty when I would come home. My career didn't make it possible to live there anymore. Through the last few years, since the new ownership took over I have watched an icon of my home town dwindle away. I still supported their business. However, that has changed. The day before yesterday we took my boyfriend's mother into get her hunting license. We wanted to take her grouse hunting. When I walked in the door I noticed a lot of the old pictures were gone. Then I noticed their inventory was low. As we checked out with the hunting license I asked if they had a restroom. I knew they had one but I wanted to ask to use it. The young man at the counter (who I later found out is the owners son) told he didn't have a restroom. I really had pee...really bad...I said you used to have a bathroom because Stu and Emma used to let me use it. He replied "we aren't jerks like Stu and Emma and you're not the one who has to clean the shit up when people come in and make a mess". I was not impressed with his customer service skills...it was to the point I had to tell the cashier that I was teasing him and he was still belligerent. My boyfriend even had to comment after because of the cashier's attitude issues. He said " you seem a little sensitive" to which the cashier replied..."Not really"...glad Subway is next-door so I didn't pee my pants... I don't remember Stu and Emma having to worry about their customers use of the restroom. Maybe it's a reflection of the way people feel about your business... Oh P.S. it's against your agreement with your credit card authorization company to charge me a fee to use a credit card...but you already knew that...classy...

Sport Town is located in the Palouse Mall and they are almost toward the end of the mall, next to Rite-Aid and you gotta go past Old Navy to know they are there. When you pass by the store, the display on their window might not make one think it's a Sporting goods--They very much are a sports store. Perhaps, the owner can rev up the window display to let people know you are a Sport store!! As you enter the store to the left, they have plenty of selections for running shoes and I am certain they have other shoes for other sport purposes that I have not seen just yet. They have plenty of quality sports apparel, sports hats, and plenty more. I would encourage you to check out this place if you have not already. The real gem of Sport town is Rachel and you gotta see Rachel!! My boyfriend and I went in looking for some running shoes for him. We know very little about running shoes and running in general. Rachel was a wealth of information. From the time we walked in to the store, Rachel showed interest and enthusiasm in helping my boyfriend. One of the first things I noticed was her listening skills, after she gathered information, she had my boyfriend walk a few steps, to the end of the store hall, to learn how he walks. She asked about injuries and concerns he has about his feet, and she took the time to learn about what he needs and not just sell us shoes, she really serviced us. She spent probably close to an hour with us. Initially, we were going to order the shoes she recommend online but after that amazing customer service, how can we not buy it from her and I am glad we did!! What was most impressive to me was the quality of customer service Rachel provided and her product knowledge. We also came in with some knowledge about running shoes, However, Rachel gave us a lot more information and her expertise on the shoes and the running sport in general, and it made sense as to why she recommended one shoe over another. She did not push the sale on us, she even encouraged us to think about it first before purchasing the running shoes as she realizes it was an investment. We didn't have to think about it, regardless of the price, what mattered to my boyfriend and me is how Rachel treated us. We purchased the running shoes from Rachel and forget buying online. Someday when I need a quality sport shoes, I will personally ask for Rachel. The owner of this store needs to know that Rachel is a value team member for Sport Town.

This was the best game in town to acquire those items. THE SETUP You don't see Sporting Goods stores like this in the Bay Area. Hell, not even in California. I felt like I walked into an outdoorsman's wet dream when I entered through the doors of this venerable establishment. OUR ITEMS It was a quick thing to find the rafts and the scuba gear we needed at this store. In doing some pricing at the sporting stores in Sacramento and Seattle, it appeared these purchases were a far better deal here in Idaho, by almost 30%-50%. [ Which makes the follow-up point obvious: if I ever need equipment in Idaho, DON'T BOTHER to buy it in California and take it up there - just wait and get it local - far better diversity and far far better pricing. GUNS Rifles with sniper scoping, pistols like refurbished Glocks, crossbows, dart guns, sling shots, refurbished (sub-machine?) repeating guns even. There is just about every personal weapon one could obtain to take into wilderness survival if they need it. TAXIDMERMY On every wall there were the heads of just about every wild game that rifles, crossbows, darts and slingshots could make their target in the local Northern Woods of the Panhandle of Idaho. Elk, Moose, Bobcats, Mountain Lions, Weasels, Ducks, Marlins, Sailfish, Salmon, etc. etc. Just about every creature of the Air, Sea and Land had it's representative stuffed and mounted here. OTHER EQUIPMENT * Great inventory on Sunscreens (which we got), * Hunting gear & ammo (which we didn't need), * Camo-wear on both jackets and pants (which could come in handy sometime). * Lots of Fishing Rods and tackle * Lots of camping equipment with specific emphasis for interior wilderness purpose or river-purpose THE LOWDOWN A Great Sporting Store - if not the best - in the Panhandle of Idaho.
