    Crispy Chicken Sandwich

Wendy's is always one of our biggest cravings! This one in Litchfield is the one we usually go to and sometimes it hits just the spot with freshness and being amazing but other times very disappointing. This time around there were ups and downs. They had no sodas at all because they were out of all syrups for their machines so did lemonades instead. They varied with the strawberry lemonade being very tart and the blueberry pomegranate being watered down. Waited a little bit for the food (at most 7 minutes) but not too long. The fries, burgers and nuggets were all fresh but the chicken sandwich had been sitting so long the breading became soft. Finally got to try one of their new sauced nuggets and it was alright. They gave a good amount of ranch sauce packets to dip them in but they had a very weird taste to them. Will always still come back here just wish every time was one that knocked it out of the park!

    The Original Frosty - Chocolate

We waited in the drive thru at the Wendy's in Litchfield, IL for over 25 minutes. When we got our food at 6:22 pm the medium Frosty's were half full. I was taken aback when I took the lid off the first one and tried to hand it back to the girl at the window, asking her if she could fill it up as it was only half full. She looked in the cup and said " that's not half full." I was shocked and told her they are normally full to the top. My husband took the lid off of his and it was also half full. Her response was " we are short staffed and busy." My husband told her that has nothing to do with making sure with making sure the cup is full, after all his iced tea was full. It was clear she has no concept of customer service and it did not appear there was an adult in the building or we would have asked to speak to a manager. We will not return to this Wendy's.

Driving back from a meeting in Champaign, IL I started to get "real" hungry. I needed something to cut the hunger pains in half, but not fill me up to much because I was attending Clayton Restaurant Week when I got home. Once again, the cloverleaf in Litchfield came to my rescue. I exited off 55 South and headed to the little red headed girl for a quick lite bite. Upon entering I noticed a poster promoting four combo meals for, "New Year - New You". I've been dieting and going to the gym, so I knew there would be no Frosty in my order. Their Ultimate Chicken Grill Combo sounded good and it was only 600 calories. The combo consisted of a Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Bowl of Chili and a Diet Coke. When I placed my order, the counter lady asked me if I'd like to replace the chili with fries. Those fast food jockeys will push those fries no matter what. I politely declined the swap out. By the time I put the change back in my pocket, my order was already on a tray and waiting for me. In jovial tone I said, "wow that was fast." To which I heard the reply, "yeah we don't waste time." in a surly tone. I picked up my tray, filled my glass with diet Coke and found an empty table in the dining room. It was 2:30PM and the room was over half full. Was everyone having a late lunch? As I glanced around, I noticed I was actually one of the youngest in the room. Perhaps this was not a late lunch crowd, but an early dinner crowd. Wendy's brags about their beef not being frozen, but what about their chicken? My grilled chicken tasted rubbery and tough. My chili here was even a disappointment, it seemed to be watered down and did not have the flavor I am use too. However, I must say the diet Coke was spot on. It was cold, refreshing and just the right amount of caffeine. Today I learned to stick with burgers at Wendy's and avoid the chicken. The true highlight of stopping at this Wendy's was seeing a gentleman walk in with a sock monkey stocking cap on. I have only seen those in children sizes and wanted to know where he got it. When he came over to fill his soda glass, I was going to ask him where he found it. I was totally shocked when he turned around to walk towards me. I am having lunch in the middle of cow pastures and corn fields and I see a friend from Saint Louis. Do we live in a small world?

My lettuce on my Crispy chicken sandwhich i believe it also was on the 4 for 4 an its suppose to be a blt chicken sandwhich.

I enjoy wendys. But i dont enjoy wilted lettuce on my sandwhich. Best to use fresh products. If i get this again my service at litchfield wendys will stop. Your crew didnt do a good job this is a way to loose service.

It's a simple cafe with delicious food and it's served as if it is a white linen restaurant. Yep, all tables have white linen tablecloths and napkins. All the wait staff are wearing black slacks, white shirts with black ties and looking mighty fine. I happened to be visiting on a Sunday during Brunch hours. I'm typically not a buffet kinda guy, but I was today. I thought by doing the buffet, I'd be able to experience many of their different menu items all in my initial visit. After saying I wanted the buffet, my server brought me a clear chilled plate for the salad and soup bar, which was included with the buffet. She also gave me a warm dinner plate for the buffet line. As I dined, she checked with me and when needed she gave me a clean plate for my next trip through the line. The variety of foods were impressive. They had a section with all the typical breakfast foods; scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy and potatoes. It all looked good, but I focused on lunch items. My first trip through the line was, a HUGE fried chicken breast, green beans and mashed potatoes with white gravy. It was some of the best chicken I have had in a while. The seasoning was great, it was super crispy and crunchy and the meat was juicy. Their green beans were made from scratch with bacon and onions. The salt and pepper seasoning was just enough flavor. Then real mashed potatoes and a true country white gravy. I was satisfied with that plate alone, but went back to try more. Second trip I had Mostaccioli that tasted as if an Italian grandma had made it. It was super cheesy and the right amount of Italian seasoning. Then I had a couple Catfish Nuggets, General Tso's Nuggets, Mac-n-Cheese and Roast Beef. I was getting so full, I didn't even get anything from the soup and salad bar. I was seated close, so I did take a peak and it had a good variety of offerings. I'll be sure to try it on my next visit. My server was stellar. She was very attentive and friendly. I liked that the entire staff were dressed as if they were in a 50's diner or perhaps an upscale restaurant being the black & white. It's the Centennial Celebration of Route 66 this year. That should give you reason to go eat at the oldest restaurant on Route 66, which is The Ariston.

I know that the two souls working this morning did their best. Their leadership clearly underestimated how many people would come out for breakfast on a New Years day. While reinforcements did eventually show up, we in that first wave took a bit of a slight in timing and preparation of the food. When you are in the weeds, and feeling rushed you are not always at your best. Today's marginal performance is on the franchise owner and the manager doing scheduling, not the two people hustling as best they could. I got a Philly cheese steak omelet, hash browns and a biscuit. It was all just okay- cooked a bit too fast and hot so all of the textures suffered, the flavors no time to really develop. My wife got her standard eggs, sausage, hash brown and toast. Same issues it was okay, but the rush cook job left a bit to be desired on the flavors and textures. The place was reasonably clean, it's not overdone on decorations, a nice enough place. We will likely give it another chance at some point. We certainly wouldn't make a 12 mile drive like we did this morning.
