That's basically what happened here, except instead of chocolate and peanut butter, it was an art gallery and a gastropub. Somehow it works. The vibe here is funky in mostly the right ways. The decor has a yard sale chic aesthetic that's somehow carefully curated without looking like it tried too hard. The staff had just enough piercings and tattoos for me know they would love to talk to me about their record collections if I asked, and the whole place manages to feel both laid back and just upscale enough that you can justify ordering anything from a burger to what looked like a pretty respectable ribeye. I went with the Shroom, a portobello mushroom burger, and it was enjoyable. Tons of flavor, perfectly satisfying, and paired with one of the crispest side salads I've had in a while. Bonus points for the edamame. I will happily eat edamame in just about anything. Not with jello though. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals, although we collectively demonstrated the adventurous spirit of a group that mostly ordered the Pub burger. So I can't claim we've fully explored the menu yet. This just gives me an excuse to come back. Service was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The only moment that caught me a little off guard was when the owner stopped by to let us know he had baseball cards for sale in one part of the restaurant, along with an upstairs gallery featuring local artwork. I felt like he might next open his coat to show me some watches. He's just down for the hustle I guess. The art ranged from "that's pretty nice" to "someone really, really loves painting Utah's red rocks." Only in Kanab is a friendly little food truck in the SAMCO/Silver Eagle gas station parking lot…read more When we arrived around 6PM for a Sunday dinner, the little parking area right next to the truck was full of customers waiting to pick up their burgers, but there wasn't a line to order. Per the cashier, Zuzu, there would be an 18 minute wait for our food. She was on the dot correct, and 18 minutes later, we were biting in: Kanab Burger + Fries ($19) - Let's start with the patty. It's really good quality, about half an inch thick after cooking, still with a good portion of pink at medium-well doneness, resulting in a burger with plenty of moisture remaining inside. The patty, slightly smaller than the size of the bun, is charred well, but still tender and extremely beefy inside. The burger is slathered with a ton of chimichurri aioli, creamy, bright and herbaceous along with two slices of melted Muenster. It's so creamy that some starts dripping out as soon as the burger is lifted up. To add even more fat (which I honestly don't think is required), there are plenty of small avocado slices, followed by a single thin slice of tomato, which I found to be too small for the burger. There's then plenty of arugula, peppery and bitter to finish. It leads to a pretty well balanced burger, all on the bun emblazoned with the Only in Kanab logo. The bun compresses well to really cradle the ingredients. We ordered this with fries, which are pretty average in size and shape. Some are a bit over fried, but most are okay and still fluffy inside. They dust it with a liberal amount of seasoning salt, so it's quite salty. Shadow of the Dragon Burger ($14) - The burger patty is the same as above, but the other ingredients are mostly different. There's a garlicky and tangy sambal giving just a hint of heat. There's crunchy fried red bell pepper bits embedded in the hot sauce and then another creamy, slightly sweet sauce spread on the buns. It's overall not very spicy at all, and very messy to eat since things spill out easily. I think both burgers are a bit too abundant with the ingredients, but I don't think either were overloaded either. Overall these were very good burgers and a surprising find for such a small town where I didn't expect to find great food at all.

The homemade barbecue sauce coated it thickly, rich and sweet, with an authentic American barbecue flavor. It might be a bit too sweet for most Chinese palates, but I thought it was quite good. The agave mustard vinaigrette seemed more decorative; I nearly couldn't really taste it. Lemon Sorbet: Homemade sorbet, offering the most soulful finish. It was breathtakingly beautiful at first glance; the simple white porcelain plate and glass were limpid and elegant, perfectly matching the sorbet's style. Unlike typical sorbets that emphasize extreme acidity, this restaurant took a different approach, with a gentle, even subtle, acidity that brings out the natural, lively fragrance of lemon, like Lolita's touch through pale silk. The texture was also delicate and smooth, without any ice crystals. Everyone was captivated; some even ordered an extra to take away. The restaurant claims that ingredients come from its organic garden. This might be a pointless gimmick, but the cooking and presentation of the dishes conveyed a consistent level of refinement and care, making it all the more valuable.

I really wanted to love this restaurant because the Western atmosphere is fantastic and certainly draws you in. Unfortunately, our overall dining experience fell considerably short. I want to begin with the positive. Nancy, who I believe is either the owner or manager, was remarkable--friendly, approachable, easy to communicate with, and genuinely willing to acknowledge areas where the restaurant could improve. I have tremendous respect for that kind of humility in management. She was also gracious enough to waive the corkage fee for the bottle of wine we brought. Our biggest problem was the steaks. Our server, Dwayne, explained that the steaks are cut in-house. The quality of the beef itself seemed perfectly decent, but unfortunately the cutting and preparation were not. My wife and one of our friends ordered ribeyes, while I ordered the baseball-cut top sirloin. The steaks were extremely chewy and difficult to eat. If a restaurant is going to butcher steaks in-house, proper cutting technique and trimming are critical. Based on what we received, I strongly believe additional training and oversight are needed in this area. Dwayne initially offered to replace the steaks or provide a discount. We hate wasting food, so rather than sending several steaks back and having them thrown away, we tried our best to eat what we could. When the bill arrived, however, only approximately 10% had been discounted. Considering that replacement steaks had been offered because of the problem, I found that resolution disappointing. There were also service inconsistencies. At one point, Dwayne returned roughly 10 minutes after taking our order and asked how our food was, even though we were still waiting for our salads and hadn't received our entrées. We were also charged for chips and dip that we had never ordered. Nancy had brought them to the table, and we specifically mentioned that we hadn't ordered them, yet the charge nevertheless appeared on our bill. To be fair, not everything was disappointing. The Caesar salad was actually one of the highlights of the evening and was very good. My friend's Frank Sinatra Burger was also good, and he enjoyed it. So there are clearly things coming out of this kitchen that work. Our total was close to $200 including gratuity, and unfortunately several members of our party left feeling that the meal simply didn't justify the expense. I had told Nancy that I would leave a good review, and I sincerely intended to do so. But I also believe reviews have to honestly reflect the experience, both good and bad. Nancy herself impressed me tremendously; the Western atmosphere is fun; and there are some good items on the menu. The restaurant's shortcomings, however, particularly with steak preparation, service follow-through, and billing accuracy, need attention. Unfortunately, we're leaving Kanab and won't have an opportunity to give Iron Horse another try on this trip. I sincerely wish Nancy and her team the very best. She clearly cares about the business, and I hope she takes this feedback in the constructive spirit in which it is intended. With better training, stronger quality control, and more consistent service, this restaurant has the potential to deliver an experience that matches its wonderful atmosphere.
