Placed an app order for the drive thru. Arrived and was told they didn't have it and I would have to go inside to sort it out. Okay... went inside and it was just setting there at the counter already bagged. Not sure why the drive thru person couldn't be bothered to just go get herself. Came at 11pm. The lady at the drivethru and register was friendly and helpfull. But two horrible issues with the food. The fries were terroble. My guess is the oil needs to be replaced. Fried were not cooked completely and not at all crisp or browned. The nest was my burger. Double cheese with bacon. After a few bites, it was obvious. The beef was spoiled. Had a gamey off-taste. While I'm very sorry for the poor service others have received, I have to say my experience at this Wendy's was very satisfactory for a fast-food place. For the past several years, I have attended Mustang Alley and the Woodward Dream cruise. Wendy's has been our go-to for lunch - it has tables, AC, and clean enough bathrooms. Sure, the service isn't the quickest and the soda machine is a little clunky to use, but it serves our purpose just fine. The burger, fries, and chicken nuggets were all good and what we expected. I honestly can sum up this place in one word- disgusting. I normally write really lengthy reviews but this place doesn't even deserve one. In my sandwich I found a huge piece of plastic. Probably from a bag but I had to fish it out from my mouth. Then as I ate the sandwich I pulled a hair out of my mouth... and I gave them the benefit of the doubt and kept eating it despite the weird plastic incident... then another hair... my hair was pulled back so unlikely it was mine. It was also not my hair color... Then... I realized, it's someone else hair. In that moment I felt like throwing up. That's really all I have to say. Lowest rating possible as always with any " fast " food outlets in Detroit or within 30 minutes bus ride/drive of the city. Those who will continue to go here just don't care that these people are not capable of doing anything right and will defend their mind blowing incompetence and ignorance as a means of signaling virtue they do not possess ( it is ferndale after all, a utopia for fake people who preach things they themselves never practice ). A large portion of my review has to do with the customer service. To me, you can really tell when an employee is going above and beyond to make your experience (and day) as delightful as possible. Tonight, I would like to give Kimberly her much deserved flowers. The moment I pulled up to the drive thru, I heard a very welcoming and positive tone come over the intercom. This in itself made my ears perk up. Usually you can't understand the employee and it just seems like they don't want to be there whatsoever. Kimberly was the complete opposite of this. She asked me how I was doing, read my order back to confirm that it was correct, and asked me if I wanted anything else. It's the little things like this that go a long way for a customer like me. When I approached the window, Kimberly greeted me with a lovely smile, and proceeded to take my card for payment. She wished me a great day, and I was on my way. It's not every day that you get treated so nicely, especially in today's cruel environment. With that being said, I'm grateful to have visited this Wendy's location while Kimberly was on the clock. This place. They never tell you specials or how to save money when there are deals. Very little rapport established with the staff. I just ordered a large fry and when I got home I discovered that they were all burnt. I crunched my way through them, of course, but had to add a lot of salt and ketchup. Part of losing the amount of weight that I have so far is picking good choices for food. One of those good choices had always been for Wendys . Ordering a chili and baked potato is a great option. However, the Ferndale Wendy's refused to accept any other form of identification when paying with a credit card than a driver license. After explaining to Ann the manager that this was a violation of their agreement to accept cards and that my work ID should suffice, she refused to accept the card. She the flipped me off, told me she would tell police I threatened her, and then have me arrested. My saving grace was when she realized I was recoding the interaction on my iPhone, she quickly stopped talking, left the restaurant, got into her beat-up Chevy Malibu, then drove off. Her employees were just as stunned as I was. When I called the Wendy's customer service number, Jessica said the location was a franchise location and it is against corporate policy to give me any sort of contact information for the franchisee or a district manager. She told me that Ann is the manager and to call the location directly to complain. Circles. Sigh. I will never give Wendy's another dime. I'm done. read more

Heads up: The dining room seems to be closed for the foreseeable future, but all hands were on deck, handling drive-thru orders, this afternoon. I was surprised to see a line of about ten cars this afternoon around 3:45, but things moved quickly, but I was on the road with my food within 15 minutes (about 90 seconds per order seems fair for fast food, no?). The staff was not only efficient, but I was also impressed by their patience, courtesy, and good hygiene (props to the staff member who kindly explained what ghost pepper Buffalo ranch sauce is to me over the intercom system and the staff member at the window with a mask and gloves who handled my credit card without ever handling my food). I ordered the 4 for $4 -- a great deal at any location -- that was excellently prepared. Crispy bacon; soft, warm bun; juicy lettuce and tomato; hot, crispy fries -- it was all fresh and made to order. Five-star fast food service! read more

The Ferndale Wendy's subscribes to the slow food movement, though not in the way you think. Drop those silly ideas about delicious food produced with care, something nutritious and sustainably sourced. This joint believes in taking their time to put together a by the numbers meal rather than serving you up a hamburger and fries lickety split. That would be silly. The slow food movement here means a modest backup at the drive-thru at all hours of the day. It does not mean considerable care is put into assembling your burger by an hamburger artisan. It does not stem from a desire to process orders correctly and minimize errors and waste. I still frequently get the wrong orders, like hamburgers with mayo when I asked specifically for none and soggy, sad fries instead of a chili. An eye to craftsmanship might apply where workers gain more than minimum wage or have a soul left in their food. The Coke products are always off in their mix, the syrup sometimes gagging, and the acid taste of carbonated water scouring my palate. There's such a thing as taking an idea too literally. Slow food movement from kitchen to delivery at cashier is a fine example. The wait times are excruciating for no apparent reason externally, but may have something to do with seeing to the employees' entertainment by chatting to co-workers, texting on their phones or staring off into space. I have idled in line later in the evening when Wendy's is one of the few places open, watching the cashier at the first window stare off into space while the line up in front of us did not move for 15 minutes. The beau was ready to pull away when I went inside to find out what the hold-up was. A fire? An order for 52 size small Frosties? A woman in labour and heroic efforts to make her comfy? None of the above. The lollygagging employees were snapping their gum and eyeing up the queue slowly forming with complete disinterest. They had no idea why the drive-thru was backed up so badly. Of course, they already ran the card to pay for the order so driving off was $15 in the hole and we were starving. Nothing changed when three customers who came in behind me wanted to know what the hold up was. The person directly in front of us waited 10 minutes for -- get this -- a large drink. That's it. It would be acceptable if this were a one time occurrence, but Ferndale Wendy's is notoriously slow and dodgy. Avoid and use this as a sign to spend your pennies at Western Market. read more

I am not going to beat around the bush here, this outlet is by far the worst in the area. My wife and I have had a few bad experiences with this Wendy's, especially using the drive thru, which if you order too many items at the wrong time of day, you will be told that you will have to wait 15 minutes. Fast food this is not, and our experience today has broken the camels back and will result in us going out of our way, to use an outlet further away from home. The guy running the drive thru window, was clearly unqualified and was taking a long time to take everyone's order and payments. We did not receive a receipt, which was to lead to problems. We reached the food window and were asked to pull forward because a few of our items were not yet ready. Then we waited patiently until finally they brought out HALF of our order. So we mentioned that things were missing, one item of which they claimed we had not been charged for, but they would give it to us for free because of the wait. Considering what we paid, I refuse to believe we did not get charged for the item (we couldn't prove this because we were not given the receipt). When we reminded them of the other missing items they treated us as if we were trying to rip them off. This outlet was in disarray and no one had any idea what was going on. I must point out that there was plenty of staff and hardly any customers in the restaurant or at the drive thru. The staff were dismissive, rude and seemingly always lazy. Our burgers were also poorly wrapped and put together. Frankly we have had enough with this poorly run location and will not be using it again. read more

Went into this Wendy's with normal expectations. There was one lady by the counter who was putting together food, but was not the cashier. After she served the guest in front of us, she said she needed to find Claire. She was calling for Claire, and you could hear Claire yelling she was in the bathroom. Then George, who looked like a manager, walked up and said he wasn't waiting on people and that I would have to wait for Claire. Claire once again yelled from the bathroom. So i waited longer. Claire showed up and basically gave George the what for in front of me and another customer. Claire was frustrated as she waited on me. Overall, a very poor customer service experience. This Woodward (and almost 9 Mile) location in Ferndale is the one I've happened to stumble into on a handful of occasions. I don't know why (esp. since my family was a McDonalds family growing up), but in the last 5 years or so, I sometimes crave a Wendy's burger, SPECIFICALLY a Wendy's hamburger meal with Coke hold the onion, maybe twice a year (and I'll bend to the craving 50% of the time). I never feel good about the experience. I never feel good about myself. I never feel good about the food. But like a Pavlovian dunce, I totally satisfy the craving in the most satisfactory way.
