We sat outside and enjoyed the scenery. It is a beautiful location right next to the River District. There's a lovely park, splash pad, and playground right along the Dan River. We were so stoked to eat right there. The interior of the restaurant was so fun. We loved the decorations. Books everywhere! The server was ok at first. But when we were done, I did not like how she presented me the check. She just quickly flashed me an amount on a screen, and then hid the screen. I asked if I could pay cash and she accepted it but did not bring me a check even then. We ordered 3 burgers that sounded really good. Such a disappointment. The burger meat in each was shaped perfectly and was as hard as a hockey puck. They appeared to be cooked medium but the meat was tough and gristly. I have no idea how they got all the burgers the exact, uniform hockey puck shape. They must be like those frozen ones you can get at Costco. But $17.95 for a frozen hockey puck? At one point, while my kids were telling me how gross the patties were, while my husband and I told them they had to eat them to go play on the playground, I flagged the server down and asked what type of meat it was. She said beef. However, it did not taste like beef. Thank goodness for all the toppings because if they were plain burgers, they would have been inedible. We were so hungry though so we ate what we could. Notably, the buns also tasted cheap like they had just come out of a stale grocery store deli bag. The seasoned fries, sweet potato fries, the homemade ranch and ketchup, and salad with homemade vinaigrette were ok. After we left, I added up what we ordered again and realized she must have charged me an extra $12 to swap out a veggie patty for a beef patty. I was not told there would be an upcharge so felt a little swindled, especially with how she presented the check. I wish I had kept the veggie patty though, because it probably would have been better. Also my kid who had said the burgers were so gross puked right after we left and immediately felt much better and enjoyed 2 hours on the playground. My other kid was jealous of the other one puking. Like you can't make this kind of stuff up. This spot has so much potential. I would honestly hope to visit again just to chill outside but would not ever eat the burgers.

I had work travel this week to Pittsylvania County, VA. This is my 1st Danville, VA or even…read morePittsylvania County Yelp review. I'm writing this while back in Danville for my work travel specifically today Thursday, September 10. My girlfriend & I made more of a vacation out of this from Sunday, 9/6 to Sunday, 9/13. We spent one night at an old friend of mine in Raleigh, NC and got to her parent's Smith Mountain Lake house in Franklin County on Monday night. We drove through Danville on Monday evening. I wanted BBQ or southern, but it was Labor Day & some places were closed on Monday anyway. We drove by Ka Cafe, and they were closed. We didn't want to waste much time looking for another restaurant or drive that far as we were hungry. We saw River District had good reviews and just went with that. It's a huge brick building looked like an old industrial building in the past. I parallel parked behind someone else, but there were also plenty of spots in their parking lot. We were confused as we saw 2 entrances, but we followed another customer in. We asked the friendly host about the 2 entrances, and he said I'll show you. The left entrance we went in was by the standard bar area with a mix of high top tables, booths, & the bar itself. The right side had another bar with bar seating, bowling alley, & games. We chose the standard one as we figured the other side seemed like it could get hectic. I also asked him if they had any specialties like southern foods, and he said it's more of standard burgers, sandwiches, & wings. Although I had my heart set on southern food or BBQ, I settled as we were hungry and didn't want to waste more time. Our server was very nice and efficient. I saw that their specialties were starred on their menu. I asked her recommendations too. Per the stars, her recommendation, & my gut I went with the hot honey chicken sandwich fried and upgraded to sweet potato fries for $2 more. My girlfriend was craving a standard burger & got the standard fries. Wow, excellent hot honey chicken & sweet potato fries. The bun was nicely buttered for extra flavoring. I tried a bite of my g/f fries & she tried my sweet potato. We liked on own more. Likewise, a bite of her burger, which I could tell was good quality, but I liked my hot honey chicken more. And she thought mine was good but liked her burger more. She came around to check on us a few times, getting water refills. My girlfriend & I had a discussion of another restaurant we were just at 2 days earlier relatively close to home in Maryland. She said I bet she asks if we want dessert or need anything else before slapping the bill down, which the MD restaurant did. Server came around to ask if we needed anything else, which we said no. Then, she came back with the bill and went above & beyond asking if we wanted to go cups of water. Perhaps, we could tell we were travelers as we didn't have a southern accent and wanted to provide southern hospitality, which we don't really get back home in MD. Restaurant & restroom was also clean. Overall, this was an excellent choice as both host & server was friendly and great food!

Simple and classic. We both made a few tweaks. She skipped the onions, added ketchup and mustard, and got a side salad. I kept mine simple with no ketchup or mustard. Food came out fast. Appetizer and burgers hit the table in just over five minutes, which was impressive. The burgers were good. Not over the top, but juicy and worth the price. The only miss was the bun. It was cold and could have used a quick toast or at least some heat. The house salad was fresh with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, cheese, and croutons. I tried to swap my fries for sweet potato fries and ended up getting both, so no complaints there. Just know the sweet potato fries count as extra. Fries came out hot and stayed hot. The sweet potato fries had a nice balance, not soggy, not too hard. The corn fritters were the standout. Crispy on the outside, soft and sweet inside. Service from Amber or Shannon was great. Attentive, friendly, and helpful. The only slowdown came at the end. It took longer to get the check than it did to receive the food. The space is in a reclaimed industrial building with exposed brick and high ceilings. Very large and open with plenty of room for groups and events. There is a main dining area, a busy bar, and a separate section with bowling lanes. The crowd was mixed. Families, couples, groups, people at the bar, even a few on laptops. Plenty of TVs and music, but it stays at a manageable level. Accessibility is decent with a lift available. Parking is nearby street or lot parking. Overall, a fun, casual place with strong value, especially on Tuesday nights. Must order: Corn fritters Heads up: Buns may come out cold and sweet potato fries are an extra
