    Signature Chow Mein
    Anh T.

My friend and I came here on a late weekend night, and we're glad this place is open this late! While there was originally no one when we walked in, the restaurant soon filled with a few groups even at 10:30PM. They had comfortable seating with beautiful scenic paintings across the wall, along with some TVs across the corner of the walls. We ordered the through QR codes their Signature Fried Rice and Signature Chow Mein with beef. The order came out within 15 minutes, and the portions were large! Nevertheless, we were able to finish our meal even with only two people. The chow mein was greasier than what I would have liked it to be, but it was as good as the fried rice. For a late night spot, Wen's Kitchen is worth trying!

Average Chinese joint. Felt like the portions were kind of small for the price, but the location is spacious and nice. Service is mostly self-serve. Scan the QR code at the table, order and pay through your phone.

Do not expect a dining experience here. This restaurant is more designed for takeout. When you enter, the proprietor directs you to take a seat and order from a QR code. You order and pay from your phone. There is no service per se so don't waste your money on a tip. She wasn't very helpful with questions I had regarding the menu and I selected the wrong item. It wasn't quite the atmosphere we were looking for so we changed the order to takeout and left. The food itself is not bad but a bit greasier than I prefer. Just don't get your expectations up for a dining experience. It's best for late night grub, takeout or delivery.

honestly the food wasn't bad, but on the pricer end. wish the hk pan fried noodle had more sauce, and the wontons in chilli oil were more in a chilli sauce. shrimp was pretty fresh tho

First time I went to this place I was drunk out of my mind. Went for a late night snack to sober up. I swear I don't remember much of the night BUT let me tell you I remember the honey walnut prawns!!! Everything I had was good, but I couldn't get the taste of the prawns off my mind. For weeks I've been craving them and wondering if they were really as good as I remember, or if I was just really drunk. So last night my boyfriend and I drove back to the city to for these damn honey walnut prawns. And I can confirm, THEY ARE THE BEST FREAKING HONEY WALNUT PRAWNS IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. Ordering is through your phone, super easy. Service is also quick. If you're even on Polk street and need some eats I recommend stopping by Wen's Kitchen for sure!

Friendly family-run business. I'll definitely come back. Food/drink: Many familiar chinese staples & szechuan specialties. Spice level was perfect for my group but I would've preferred more heat in some dishes. (I typically prefer more spicy than the average person). Loved the vegetarian options. Interior: Lots of space & natural light. Occasion: Super versatile - Good for pre or post-night out, they have their liquor license. I prefer going during slower periods (weekends/daytime) for more relaxing meals.

Forgot to take more pictures but this place has delicious Chinese food! All the flavors are on-point, my favorite dish (not pictured) is the Szechuan popcorn chicken. All the Szechuan dishes had really yummy flavors without burning my tongue off! Other highlights include the hot and sour soup, the beef noodle soup, and the thinly sliced pork! Authentic flavors but very pallatable for anyone looking for a good bite. Restaurant has new ownership, the ambiance was nice and service was great! Can't wait to go back!

First time visiting this restaurant & it was an amazing experience. The food was 10 out of 10 along with the service. I ordered beef chow fun, honey walnut, prawns, Mongolian beef, with steamed rice. The fried chicken was amazing. Crispiest chicken I've ever had! I most definitely will recommend this to anyone that's in the city, even if they're not in the city.

Authentic Chinese food! Was craving food from home (Hong Kong) for a really long time, so glad I discovered this new spot! Ordered a ton of food and everything tasted absolutely delicious! Highly recommend the Honey Walnut Shrimp and the Beef Chow Fun!! Servers were incredibly kind and friendly, good ambience! Would definitely come back!

The food was the perfect level spice, there was a kick for sure, but I wanted to keep eating. It was incredibly good! The food came out as it was ready so it was nice to get the dishes back to back while they came out hot and fresh. The pork dumplings and the noodles were my favorite. Once they started calling tables, it moved really fast. When we were seated, we ended up sharing a table with two other groups of two. I actually didn't mind it at all because there was still enough space between everyone to have privacy. It also made the experience feel more social -- I ended up chatting with the people to my right and left about the food. Everything we ordered was really good. Their popular dry fried chicken absolutely lived up to the hype and was probably my favorite thing on the menu... besides the cherry pork. I feel like nobody talks about the cherry pork enough! It was SO good -- kind of like a sweet-and-sour pork without the sour. I dipped it in soy sauce because I loved the sweet and salty combo together. The dumplings were also really good. The wrapper was thin and delicious, but my boyfriend said he wished they had a little more protein filling and less leek. The green beans are always a hit. The only thing I probably wouldn't order again was the black bean sauce noodles. Maybe I just expected a different flavor, but to me they honestly tasted like regular lo mein. I'm also not a huge noodle person in general, so I'd probably skip them next time and order something else instead. Forgot to mention their prices are on point! Definitely recommend to any of the tourists. I think the weight is definitely worth it and I love being able to take home my leftovers and eating them for lunch and dinner the next day.

The place was packed at lunch, which is usually the best sign, but turnover was quick and I was seated faster than expected. The lunch special is a solid value with soup, rice, and an entree included. Started with the hot and sour soup which had good balance and depth without being overly thick or aggressive on the vinegar. The dry fried beef was tasty. Great texture, nicely cooked, layered flavor, and the kind of dish that keeps you reaching back in even after you're full. Service was efficient, food came out quickly, and the whole place has that old school neighborhood energy that makes you understand why it stays busy. Not trying to reinvent anything, just executing the classics well.

The Spicy Garlic Pork with vegetables was HOT and there was no escape: Like an opponent's chess pieces trying to grab your king, one bite after the next puts you in jeopardy. It was a good kind of peril. The Chow Mein Select noodles with lots of fresh crunchy vegetables was nicely executed with firm, plump chow mein. It was a very generous helping. I thanked my stars for the relief of white rice. The quart of hot and sour soup will have to wait until tomorrow, so much delicious food. I LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEE the dry fried chicken and the Szechuan spicy beef. I usually also get the honey walnut shrimp when I want something a little sweeter to balance everything out, but if you're trying this place for the first time, you really can't go wrong with the dry fried chicken and Szechuan spicy beef. He had the black bean spicy fish with white rice, and I chose the mapo tofu with fried rice. Each lunch came with tea, a cup of hot and sour soup, and an egg roll. The soup really stood out. It wasn't just a thin broth with a few scraps floating around. It was a genuine, comforting hot and sour soup with real ingredients in every spoonful. That alone made the meal feel thoughtful and complete. The portions were satisfying and well balanced, and everything arrived hot and fresh. My husband enjoyed his fish, which had good flavor and a nice texture. The mapo tofu was exactly how I like it. The tofu held its shape, which made a big difference. I do not enjoy overly soft tofu that falls apart, and this had a firmer bite that worked really well with the sauce. The dish was clean tasting, with a steady heat that was noticeable but not overwhelming. It had spice, but it did not overpower the dish or linger too aggressively. There was no pork, which I appreciated, and it still felt complete and satisfying without it. What made this meal especially meaningful for me is that I had just gotten out of the hospital a week ago after dealing with malnutrition, dehydration, and several health issues. I had not been eating well and had lost over 80 pounds in the past year. This was the first full, nourishing meal I have truly been able to enjoy in a long time. For the first time in months, I did not feel weak or fragile afterward. I felt full, steady, and strong. That kind of experience goes beyond just good food. It felt restorative. It felt like care. From what others often say, this place has built a strong reputation for bold Sichuan flavors that are still approachable. People tend to mention the generous portions, the consistent quality, and the fact that the spice levels are flavorful rather than overwhelming. It is the kind of spot that draws both regulars and first time visitors who are looking for something reliable and satisfying. Spicy House gave me more than just a meal. They gave me a moment of comfort and strength when I really needed it. We will absolutely be back.
