This is the first park I brought my daughter to back in the early 2000s. Throughout the years, I came here less and less due to the homeless population and weird adults hanging out at the park. Fast forward to November 14, 2025. I was pleasantly surprised to see such a welcome update to the south-facing green area of the park. The city of course had to uproot about a dozen big trees for this project but better that, than remain a homeless haven. Next to the courts, the city also built a pro-shop where paid members can hangout, buy refreshments and use the clean restrooms. Members also have the benefit of reserving a court. The wall separating the courts from the apartment complex is made with sound-absorbing material, the benches are shaded and there are properly designated paddle racks for each of the five courts. I was the second pickleball player to arrive for the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the newly built pickleball courts. It was cool to see the usual suspects - friends I play with at Bostonia Rec Center and Lakeside courts, as well as new faces. This being the second El Cajon public pickleball court, me and my friends already started planning the days we will play here. This will most likely become another popular venue and one that will be maintained since local city leaders and council members are avid pickleball players themselves. read more

Nice place to play. Still fairly new. Need better posting of rules for better utilization so everyone of ALL ages/levels can play. There's a few improvements that can be made but overall very nice pickkeball courts. 3 Nice areas for dogs. Nights are busy but everyone finds something to play/do. read more

The dog park has three sections, one for small pups, the other for medium/large pups, and an obstacle section. Mostly all owners pick up after their pups. Lots of locals that come and socialize. Best time to come 7AM-11AM & I think 5:30-8PM, when it's not too hot. There are a lot of trees for shade, benches, poop bag stations and dog fountains (even some community water bowls). read more

Extremely dangerous workout and play structure. Not suitable for children. Almost fell, could not stop the flow. My child died.

In thier attempt to modernize Wells Park it is my personal belief that they FAILED miseranly. My biggest complaint is how they remodeled the restrooms. It is my belief that the did it the way they did to deter the homeless the druggies, and people looking fora place to hook up from abusing the restrooms BUT what they did was ran me out of the park in search of a clean safe and private place to take a dump. I seethere is still a lot of construction going on I didn't stick around. This park used to be a nice place to get out and enjoy the sun maybe have a picnic or relax and read or play my guitar. But until I hear that they put doors on the stalls, my one star review still stands. I may check back from time to time to see if they took my review seriously and corrected this outlandish mistake. I can't remember ever giving a one star review. I was so mad that I didn't take any pictures. Looking back I wish I would have. Great play area for big and older kids. Not a good park for babies or tots! Also homeless people that stay there can be very rude and often fight one another. Not a safe park. Not a lot of local parks with as many amenities as this one. Baseball field, half courts for basketball, a gym area, playground, 3 fenced areas for big dogs, small dogs, and obstacle course, plus a track and more. Well manicured and kept. Recently added security fences to keep the homeless out and after closing it there is trespassing, an announcement is made to the trespasser to get them out and alert the police... keeps the park nice. read more

Please dont bring dog treats, it only makes them food agressive. At least with not alot of dogs around please. Nice grass area in large dog park. Other dog owners and their pups were very friendly. We met a 19yr old husky Only downer is all the homeless people. Only because it's sad not because they're a problem. Don't be discouraged by their presence. We will be back. read more

I visited this city run park today(5-23-18) in the late afternoon after a looong absence/avoidance. Much to my dismay, it has gotten worse than it ever was. It's located in the very back of the park which forces dog park users to run through the gauntlet of pan handlers, and homeless folks loitering & blocking sidewalks. Other dog park users I talked to mentioned that there is drug activity in the main/front part of the park, however, I personally didn't witness any such activity. Just loitering homeless blocking sidewalks. That's my first issue. The second negative experience was a dog owner who would not control his unruly medium size dog. The dog was incessantly jumping on and harassing other dogs to the point that owners were picking up their own dogs to make it so their dog was out of reach. This did not deter this black/gray dog. It would jump on, circle, and crawl on top of people just so it could dominate the other dogs. One owner pick their small dog up & started to walk to the other side of the park when the above mention dog practically jumped on and almost tackled the small dog owner. The owner had their hands full and tried to fend off the jumping dog by raising his leg up to fend off the jumping. To which the inattentive owner said "Hey, don't be kicking my dog." It was obvious the offending owner was taking responsibility for his dog's behavior and and true to form, blamed the other guy for his dogs poor & uncontrolled behavior. This is the LAST TIME I'm EVER going to this dump of a park! read more

Large dog park located at Wells Park, in the far back, pass the baseball field. I came by this dog park with my huband and our little girl dog last Sunday after having lunch nearby. This dog park is split into 3 sections: 1 section for small dogs and the other 2 are for large dogs. In one of the sections meant for large dogs, there are obstacle courses that you can train your dog on which I thought was pretty cool (well I am sure small dogs can also go in this area but I only saw large dogs upon this visit). Our little girl dog is small so we were in the small dog park section during our visit. What I liked about this part of the dog park was that there was a good amount of grass (sadly the other 2 sections of the dog park do not have much) and a good amount of shade too. There is also a bench with covering as well. When we arrived around 2 pm on a Saturday, I was surprised to see a good amount of dogs (both in the large dog and the small dog section). The owners we interacted with were friendly and very good at picking up after their dogs (there are dog bags available in case you are out). We ended up only being at this park for a little over an hour, but I think our little girl dog enjoyed herself running around with the other dogs and running after us. If I was in the area, I would bring her back again. But I do want to mention that I felt that Wells Park is kind of ghetto, but I felt safe for the most part when walking towards the dog park and walking back to the parking lot after our visit. There are restrooms by the dog park in case you need to use them (I did not so I can't tell you if they are clean or stocked with the essentials). read more

After having seen a couple other parks now, Well's is by far the best dog park in the county. If you have a small dog who plays well with big dogs, just take them over to the big dog side and don't bother with the little dog side. People on the little side are bitchy, whiny, and can't tell the difference from playful dog growling and when their dog is being "attacked". The folks on the big dog side know more about dogs and how they should behave. They also know when they should take their dogs out for bad behavior where on the little side... "Oh, Fofo wouldn't hurt anyone." Bullshit. Don't waste your time or endure the headache. read more

We used to love going to this park, but had to stop because people were constantly bringing their small children into the dog area and leaving them unattended while they talked to play with the dogs. Several dogs, mine included are rescues who are not at all socialized with small children. Dog parks are not places for your kids to get their "dog fix". A new group of people moved in about 4 months ago that were also just proper bullies and took over the park. It no longer felt like a fun, welcoming place so we decided to move on. So unfortunate. We loved that park and my pup misses all his friends. Trying still to find a new place. read more

I used to go to this park, but stopped because some people (some who don't even have dogs) foolishly bring little children into the leash free area. Saw a couple with a baby who was in diapers and learning to walk. They were encouraging their little baby to approach and try to touch dogs running loose in the leash free area. Another time, a woman brought her 4-5 year old along with their dog. The little girl was unattended in the leash free area while her mom played with their dog at the other side of the leash free area. The little girl was wondering around with an open bag of chips in one hand, while eating chips with the other hand. Obviously, an accident waiting to happen. read more

This place is a joke. It says here on yelp that it's good for kids but apparently not. Took my puppy here with my baby strapped to me and my 2 year old. Most of the people who seem like regulars there were really nice and friendly and were super helpful but one lady was rude and told me that i couldn't be there because the place was only for kids 6 years or older as if my children were being crazy. I had a pretty good handle on both my dog and kids. Just great. I guess it was a blessing in disguise because this area was shady as hell. As soon as we pulled up to the parking lot, the first thing I see are homeless people congregated EVERYWHERE. I first brushed it off since they have a playground there too so both my kids and dog can play. My daughter didn't even want to play because there were just so many sketchy ppl walking around and no other kids. Geee... I wonder why. Insert eye roll here. Ya don't bother with place. I made the mistake of coming here on a weekend.. First thing I noticed was that the bum population seems to be growing here. When I pulled into the parking lot I was stared at by people sleeping under the trees the whole time. It was sketchyyy!! The dog park area was empty when I went in, and a few people and dogs filtered in and out. Everything was cool until a couple of the bums that were squatting out in the park decided to bring their unfixed male pitbull into the dog park. I have no problem with pitbulls, as I have a pit/staffy mix myself, but their dog had an ego and tried to challenge my pups causing one of my dogs to start barking. I leashed my dogs and walked to the other side of the dog park. I probably will not go out of my way to go here again. read more

This is one of the nicest dog parks I've seen. The dog park is split into two sections, one for big dogs and one for small dogs. Both sides are completely fenced in so no worries about having our four legged little ones wandering off. In addition to nice lush grass and trees, there's also a paved, shaded area picnic tables. This is a great dog park. Lots of space for the dogs to run around in, and I like that there are separate areas for big and small dogs. We can keep my 80lb pitbull son from stepping on a tiny pup. There are also benches/table to sit down at. (Although I've seen many dogs, including my own, use the table for jumping practice.) The area is pretty clean and I never worry about stepping in anything. Owners are friendly and always enjoyable to talk to. People are also responsible and aware of their dogs, quick to mediate any barker/semi-aggressive acting dog. I've never seen a dog fight here..Unless you count barking wars a fight. I once saw a border collie running on the small dog side and a choco lab on the big dog side running back and forth along their respective sides with the border collie yapping its head off the entire time. It was pretty entertaining. All in all, space is decent, dogs are well-behaved, and people are friendly. Perfect place for my super-energetic boy to get his exercise in. read more

I've lived in EC my whole life so i guess i'm used to it but i've even been weirded out a couple times. the dog park is great. Lighted and has two separate sides. one for big dogs and one for little guys. I usually scope out the owners to see who is there because a few of the regulars use this as a social gathering instead of watching their pooch. but other than that it's great! clean, well maintained, water fountains and poop bags are on hand. two thumbs up! read more

What a great park! We stopped by on a whim to give our dogs a break during a trip home from San Diego. We're so glad we did! The park is massive--both the large and small dog sections. There is grass, trees, benches and picnic tables, water fountains--everything you could possibly need for a dog park. We stuck to the empty small dog side while we were there, only because there were kids running around with the dogs on the big dog side. The dogs over there were obviously familiar with her, which was totally cool, but we didn't want to risk my big ass puppies jumping and knocking the poor girl over (which they would 100% do). I don't feel entirely comfortable with kids under the age of 5 being allowed to run around in dog parks, especially with unfamiliar dogs--and who knows if the dogs are even socialized around children?! Anyway, we had a really good experience at this park, and my girls had a great time running around. We would definitely stop by again if we were in the area. read more

One of the best and safest parks in El cajon County. Park Ranger Christopher Betancourt and his partner in crime Maurice Hooper instigate alot of the problems around this area because they haven't been dealt with Luke adults. They can bring up people pass but want go investigate or solve any of the crimes they perpetuate on camera. My favorite dog park! I have been taking my corgi Clementine here since she was 4 months old. She learned to socialize here, she learned to use the drinking fountain here. It's a special park for us. The dog owners are friendly and so are their dogs. Only thing I would add would be some play structures! I think that would be cool. read more

With four small dogs and limited options in the El Cajon area, I was glad to find this park. It's a good place to bring your dogs for some play and socialization. There are cleanup bags, a water fountain, and lots of grass and shade. The shade is important, because it gets really hot in the El Cajon, edge-of-desert, sun. The people I met were friendly, and attentive to their dogs. If the area was bigger, i would have given it five stars. My dogs love it here! They get to run and play and have a great time. It's a little hard to find from Madison. From the parking lot it's all the way in the back of the park. There is 2 areas, one for little guys and one for the big doggies. It's very busy in the evenings, lots of kids, football practice etc. There are some homeless people here hanging out but it's really not too bad. No one really bothers you and it's an awesome place for your pups, and to meet other dog folk. read more

Each time I go I'm more and more pleased. The park itself is clean, has shade, a table/seating area, water fountain, poopie bags, big guy/little guy dog segregation, and is fully fenced. Of course your experience will depend on who comes to the park that day. Some sketchy folk here and there BUT, every single time I've been, I've chatted with friendly dog owners and had a great experience. Or, if you're the quiet type, you can find a little spot to just sit back and dog watch. And my two lil' guys have a great time. Head's up -- if you might be awhile, bring your lawn chair -- many people here do. Oh, and my dogs are toy snatchers. But we give them back! read more

Surprise! A clean, nice dog park in the middle of El Cajon! Small dog/ big dog areas. Decent sized, has benches and a human/poochie water fountain. Beware of the human fountain, I have seen many a Great Dane use the human fountain cause they are too tall for the dog one! Plenty of "clean up" stations. Its also right next to a children's play area, so those of you that have four legged and two legged children its a win - win. As with everything the people are hit and miss. Mostly friendly but sometimes you get really aggressive dogs and owners that don't see a problem letting them roam free. P.s. Please don't bring your small children into the big dog park! Split into two - a large dog area and small dog. Me and the BF were torn which section to bring our very cute medium size chow chow. We bring him to the small dog section and he loves it. He looks gigantic though, but only because he is SO fluffy. For some reason, he loves playing with the small dogs. We lay our blanket and chill while Howie (our chow) plays, and we see others sitting in lawn chairs doing the same. All the dogs loves coming to our blankets, jumping on us and drinking Howie's water. We don't mind though. We love playing with them and they are all so cute! One in a while, we will take him to the big dog section and he looks so small next to them. He doesn't really play with the big dog and just walks around, exploring by himself. The big dogs seem a little more aggressive than the little ones, but the owns are usually with their dog the whole time (as oppose to the small dogs where the owner just let them roam, but their section is significantly smaller). Overall, we're conflicted on which side to bring Howie, but we like both sides. And the people there are really friendly. read more

I just went to the Wells Park Dog Park for the first time today. It's great to have a nice park that has fully enclosed areas for both small and large dogs. My little terrier would just keep running if it wasn't fenced on all sides! The dogs were quite well behaved - and the owners were always quick to correct if they weren't. I would give it five stars but the neighborhood is a little iffy. The park itself is great. I'll be going back again soon. read more

This facility is nice. There is plenty of room for the dogs to run. I like that there is grass. Unfortunately I've witnessed a dog attack there that has kept me from returning. Apparently some people think it's a good idea to bring dogs that are aggressive. I don't know why you'd bring a dog to a dog park if it doesn't like other dogs! This can happen at any dog park, of course, but I've found that there are fewer problems with aggressive dogs or stupid owners at Fiesta Island than any other dog park I've visited. I think the fact that it's very open and your dog could run FAR away from you probably makes people with untrained or aggressive dogs stay away. read more

Brought my two dacshunds here for the first time today... and they LOVED it!!! They aren't the most socialized but they got along great with the other dogs that are more their size since this park is split into the big/little sides. I'm so pleased with this park's cleanness and that it's fenced in with plenty of poo bags avaliable for use. My girls are now snoozin on the couch after having a fun day of play. I took my Shih Tzu here for the first time yesterday and it was great! Lots of grass and space for the pups to run around. There are about three areas to sit in the shade, and I saw a couple people with their own fold out lawn chairs. Plenty of bags are provided for cleaning up. Pretty laid back and the dog owners are friendly. It's fenced in so I can actually take my eyes off my dog for two seconds without worrying that she's gone venturing into the abyss!
