What a fabulous park! I went for the off leash dog park. Park is mostly dirt but the hill at the back some grass. It unfortunately was not busy but we still had a nice time! We will definitely go back. read more

It's a really beautiful park near the middle school I graduated from in 2020 when everything shut down in March 2020

Another one of those great parks that has something for everyone. Running, walking, bike loop, scenic walkways and bridges that someone is always using for a photo shoot (like practically everyday)! Mini skate park, outdoor tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball fields Recreation center with games and youth programs such as karate, basketball, soccer, baseball, football, cooking classes, and tiny tots. Multi-purpose rooms that you can rent out for parties, meetings, seminars and what not. Playground areas for little kids, with swings and slides and spinny things to make you dizzy. Gated dog parks/runs. One for big dogs, and another for the little ones. I guess there's always some drama here but I haven't used these... Lots of gazebos, tables and picnic areas, open grass areas, flora and fauna. It is simply just a beautiful park that you need to check out if you happen to be in East Chula Vista. read more

This review is ONLY for the dog park area. Best dog park in the area! Love that there's 2 separated areas, 1 for small dogs, 1 for big ones. The place is clean, people are nice, friendly and the majority take well care of their dogs and their behavior. Rarely any drama, everyone communicates properly. There's some beautiful trees, very helpful during hot days! Both sections are fairly big and well kept. The only negative: dog water fountains either need to be replaced or fixed, as many times they are not working. read more

Spring Break for Chula Vista schools. Called and Montevalle staff if gym was open gym for basketball. They said yes. My son gathered his friend to play pickup basketball. We get there and staff had both courts with volleyball nets up. Only one court was barely in use while the other was vacant. Asked staff if we can use other court for basketball. They declined even though not being used. Staff Jayanna and Gil said their supervisor Ryan Michel told them they can't do it even though no one was using it. Unbelievable, we pay all these taxes and our kids can't use vacant courts! They said maybe if no one shows up in an hour they can use it! By that time open gym will be done. read more

Had my 2 year old's birthday party here, it was perfect! We rented a gazebo that was right next to the playground and it was perfect!

It is absolutely unacceptable, appalling and disgusting how they treat children in the recreation center, more specifically within the karate classes for the ages FIVE and up. I do not understand how this is ethically up and running. My child and I were so excited for her to be introduced to martial arts. However, when we got there nobody welcomed us and I had to literally ask around to find out who the actual instructor was. After she was finally acknowledged, they started to condition all of these children as if they were in an adult boot camp. I wish I was exaggerating but they really expected my 5 year old to perfect continuous jumping jacks, push ups, sit ups and squats without pause. As for the children who did not grasp the concept right away, they were to be degraded and humiliated by the instructor. It was at that point my 5 year old was in absolute tears. So we left and they did not care that we left. Another mom did come out to us a few minutes after to make sure we were okay and that was about the only kindness we had received at this poor excuse of an establishment. I hope all the other parents looking to introduce their children to martial arts actually find a legitimate place, unlike here, for their little ones to learn something they'll love to remember. read more

Gonna write this review about the actual rec center and staff. The dog park seems legit so does the surrounding abundant fields lol. These 2 stars specifically go out to the staff. Need a ball? Got a question ? Too bad I'm not done talking to my friend. This was my first interaction with staff. As you can imagine the staff sucks at communication. No one really seems to want to really answer questions or be there. Sucks when you wanna go to shoot hoops with my kids after work and you have to explain to your kids what 3-4 of them are doing vaping in a car..... read more

This is a review for the dog park. Needless to say, I love any and all dog parks! The positive experiences out weigh the negatives by a mile. But! Warning, rant to follow: Word to the wise (yes, I'm deeming you as wise): Pitbulls, Rottweilers, Dobermans, German Shepherds and other bully-type breeds aren't 'aggressive' because they are 'aggressive-looking'. ANY dog can be aggressive and that includes your small, poofy white Pomeranian. All dogs have teeth and all dogs can use them to bite! It's a godsend that those wild creatures are corralled in their own separate area. In all seriousness, I'm kidding (mostly), but I love this park because there is a separate area for large and small dogs. Believe me, not all small dogs are aggressive, but because there are many owners out there ready to point the finger at the 'big' bad doggo with a large blocky head, that fence really serves to extinguish any and all false accusations by limiting any type of interaction between the two different sizes of dog. For the most part, all dogs get along harmoniously. But, be in the mindset that the easily offended owner is out there and could be around any corner. This is the mindset you should have at any dog park! So long as you maintain your cool and calm demeanor and go with the flow (as well as taking on the role as the responsible and clear-minded dog owner), you can navigate your way around any confrontation. End rant. To get back on track, Montevalle has the separate areas, but also plenty of parking. The big dog park is mostly dirt near the entrance and the surrounding areas, but the hill has plenty of grass. Tennis balls are in abundance as many people have so generously donated some. Expect to pick up your dog's poop with a pooper scooper leaning on the concrete trash can in the middle of the park. There are bags only occasionally and they are usually donated. Keep a level-head and you'll enjoy yourself at Montevalle with like-minded people who love their pets. read more

This review is just for the DOG PARK! I've been to three dog parks out in this area and this park by far is the nicest and largest! They have two separate areas- 1)For the smaller pups and 2) For the larger dogs. The area for the larger dogs is really spacious. Nice, big area for the dogs to run around. Most of the area is grass, which is nice, but you do have some areas that are just dirt. There's some benches for the dog owners to sit on and a few trees for shade both for the humans and canines. Dog owners that come here are pretty nice and friendly, also responsible which makes the visit pleasant. It's also nice to see that Everyone cleans up after their dog! read more

My favorite dog park. Nice large area with dirt and grass. Has a slight uphill incline which is great to tire out your pooch. Has a nice bubbling dog fountain which my labs adore, it is also more sanitary than using a bowl. Always plenty of balls to play with! People are very friendly, on weekdays some people from a nearby nursing home come by to watch the dogs. Like any dog park, some owners are fantastic, others not so much. Most days we go there are no problems and the dogs have a great time. Once in a while there is a dog that is aggressive. Usually they are encouraged to leave, once or twice we've left because it was too big of a risk for us to take. My dog has been attack twice, one time drew blood. Both times unneutered males with owners not paying enough attention. Luckily I have large labs so they were not hurt too bad. But we've also been there countless times with zero issues, great dogs, great people! Also some lovely trails in the surrounding areas to walk. Overall, my favorite park in Chula Vista by far! read more

My puppa loves it here. He knows when we are around the corner and gets super excited. The big dogs are separated which is good for my dog because he is tiny he might get eaten. He loves playing with dogs his size. My only gripe is pet owners who don't pick up their pets poop!! Yuck! Seriously we need to clean up after them! We will be going back for sure! read more

It's not often we come here, but when I do it's for my Bubba Boo (dog). The nice thing is that the dog park has two separate play areas for the small and bigger dogs. The only thing that I wish was different is the smaller dog play area does not have a flat area but is located on a slanted hill. There's some sitting area for humans and water fountains for both humans and canines. Overall, it's a medium sized dog park that serves its purpose. Also, you can take a lovely walk along the trail! It really is beautiful and serene. It's one of my secret favorite places to walk. The park also has a huge grass area for flag football or soccer. Plenty of basketball courts and playground area for the kids! read more

My girls and I came here for the first time today. The dog parks are sectioned off into 21 lbs & over AND 21 lbs & under. Which is good I suppose. My rottweiler is 85 lbs and my mini schnauzer is 14 lbs. I decided to go play with the big dogs since some small dog owners see rottweilers as intimidating. On a Thursday afternoon around 4 pm, there's barely anyone there so I wasn't too worried about having my little one there. Half of the big dog section is dirt and the other half is grass. There are trees along the fence line to provide shade and benches for the hoomans to lounge around. This section looks like a mini golf course to me. The small dog section is almost all grass. In both sections there are drinking fountains for our canine buddies so don't fret if you didn't bring H2O for your buddy. Anyway, it's a nice park. Clean. Well kept. So...Go. Play. Fetch. read more

Montevalle is a community center in the Rolling Hills Ranch/Eastlake area. I've been to some community events here and the facility is quite nice. There is a large meeting room, and several smaller "classrooms." There is also a gymnasium and lounge with pool and ping pong tables. Also some tennis courts, soccer/football fields, and a softball facility. I frequent the dog park here. It is the largest in the area... two generous spaces: one for large dogs and one for smaller dogs. The parks are open until sunset... there is no lighting in the dog park area. The reason I didn't rate this with more stars is because the dog parks were located on a hill. As a result, there are drainage problems when it rains. Dogs get super muddy here. read more

This is about the dog park. There are two dog parks, one for little dogs, one for larger dogs. The larger dog park is mostly dirt with some grassy spots, a few trees for shade, and a few benches for sitting. Be advised, however, that many of the dogs (and people) that come here are untrained and do not respect other people or dogs. I've seen several pit bulls here that are very aggressive and attack other dogs, and the idiot owners usually say "oh spike has never done that before." Most of the dogs here are not trained nor socialized well (neither are the people). If you cannot control your dog with voice command do not bring it to a dog park! Also, only about half of the people that bring their dogs here clean up after their animal. There is poop everywhere. Again, too many moronic people bring their dogs here. read more

Only went to the Dog Park here. It really needs to be designed better.... or rather, better drainage. The one time I did bring my crazy dog there, I was the only one with a "big dog". of course my dog had such a great time, but I didnt hvae so much of a great time cleaning up after her after running though puddles. Those puddles were kinda hard to see since they were within grass. On top of that, I beleive my dog got a tick from there. It actually embedded itself right under her right eye. But I do remember some shrubery there that would be consistent with tick country. But Never really thought of it when I was there.... only thought of it after the fact. Maybe sometime I will go back there, once I know they have resolved the flooding issues. Otherwise I will drive alitle farther to Otay Ranch Towne Center or even to El Cajon.... yes... for my dog. . . . yes, she's spoiled. read more

I love the trails surrounding the park. I wish they were lit, but as I have only walked it during the day, it's nice and a smooth enough terrain to jog/take a stroller. It is also very woodsy so it takes you out of the element of suburbia, which is nice. I prefer taking this trail than the main road when trekking to the park. I like that the play area is big and takes into consideration the safety of children by separating 2 areas: ages 2-5 and 5-12. There are plenty of swings and slides. Most of the area uses wood chips, which I like better than sand. Swings were a little creaky, but it was nice to see there was a maintenance person looking through the park while we were there. There are several picnic tables so it's nice to eat lunch there. I don't own a dog, but if I did, the dog park looks pretty well maintained and also has 2 separate areas for smaller dogs and bigger dogs. The grass areas are large. It looks like a good place to play football, soccer, etc. looks like they host soccer games there. The park is nice, clean, and pretty maintained. Looks like I'll be visiting this place more often! read more

This park is gorgeous and very clean. There's something for everyone. Skatepark, basketball courts, covered picnic tables, a huge playground (divided into 2 parts for older n younger kids), green grassy fields, a jog path along the perimeters, and a dog park (also divided into 2 parts for bigger n smaller dogs).. There's an indoor court, rec area, and classrooms too. I've gone to 2 parties held in their banquet hall, and it was a perfect space for the parties. There's also plenty of parking. The park itself is in a quiet neighborhood area. Really, no complaints. read more

This place has a nice little skate park outside too. Just your basic obstacles: shin high round rail, 5 stair w/ square rail, a couple ledges, 2 hips w/ ledges. Pretty neat little place to go for a late afternoon/evening sesh as it can get pretty hot in the afternoons, but it is well shaded by the hills to the west. Can get crowded with a lot of highschoolers after school however. This park also has tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball fields, and some gazebos w/ bbq pits and whatnot. read more

We just hosted my daughters 1st birthday at one of their rental halls and I LOVED it. The venue is really charming, you get a nice view of the park, and they have fully equipped kitchens! The staff was GREAT, really nice guys, willing to help in every way. The price is reasonable if you live in CV, but it gets a bit pricey if you don't have CV address. It's a really great place to use for celebrations/gatherings for a group under 200 people. The parking is nearby, the kitchen is really useful, you have the parks all around you and still feel some privacy. My guests also loved it, and some commented they plan on hosting events there too. read more

I used to come to the dog park here when I lived in this part of town. Had some good experiences, had some bad. There can be a lot of mud after it rains, and my dogs LOVE to roll in mud, but my car doesnt enjoy that too much. There can be some pretty uptight people here...'Why is your dog looking at my dog' kind of people. But on the same had, I have had some great conversations with strangers. My favorite dog park Monday - Friday. Weekends, not so much. On weekends, you'll randomly have one or two outsiders bring a pitbull that is overly aggressive. Regulars aren't afraid to tell them to leave, but sometimes they don't listen. read more

I come to this park a lot, mostly for my dogs, but it's a fun place too. There are 3 full basketball courts with chain link nets to give you that real street feel in the suburbs. If you're not feeling G'd up (ps. MOST of the people who play here are high school to middle-aged family type depending what night you go. It's Eastlake...don't let the chain link nets fool you!) they also have indoor courts. There's a rec center too. I've personally never gone, but there's always a good amount of happy people in and coming out. They have some foosball, ping pong, and pool tables too. There's a baseball field with bleacher seats and 2 large open fields. The lights for the field turn on right before nightfall. They're super fun to play in. A lot of people get down with soccer or fly kites on these fields. I haven't been to their tennis courts but I'm sure they're standard. I want to say there's about 3 of them? My brother likes coming to the skate park here when he doesn't want to drive far. People-wise, you'll find almost anyone here: elementary school kids on scooters to college kids on bikes. The park is small, but it gets pretty crowded. There's a stair set, a few ledges, 2 or 3 banks, and a grind rail. I think it's one of the better skateparks in the Eastlake area. The play structure is called Cheryl's Place and a majority of the tables/cabanas are around it. It's always poppin' over here with family parties. Just as a heads up, Cheryl's Place is right next to the dog park. Overall, really good family park. I have yet to venture into the restrooms, but I'm sure they get the job done. read more

I saw some young lady once walking her dog and I don't know what happened but she was yelling at the old lady. Kinda sad. Basketball courts outside- need to be repaved. All three courts has lost traction on the paint area floor. (under the rim) Indoor Basketball - Its always dusty and never clean anymore, me and the people I play with had to literally ask for the broom and sweep the court ourselves. On Thursday nights there's a chubby white girl around her 20's that sits around the desk with her legs on the counter and surfs the internet . More than twice I've seen fights break out/ people getting seriously hurt from a game. From what i've seen her protocal is someone would have to notify her instead of her checking that everything is fine, unlike the worker onTuesdays that frequently checks on everyone. I hope that lady and manager on thurs nights gets fired during the 2011 year. They are a real pathetic excuse for a city worker. The normal ball players are cool. Despite the few ghetto wanna be's that show up. The skatepark can be done better. There is no light on that area and I've seen kids around 8 yrs old try to skate with the dim light from the outdoor basketball courts/ soccer field. Which is really unsafe and unfair for them. I wasn't there but i heard of a game played indoors where a guy pooped on the floor and claimed it came out of his nose and he ran off with his other friends. read more

DOG PARK. This dog park is very spacious. There is grass as well as dirt and there are plenty of trees to be peed on. There are two sections one for little dogs and the other for the big. There are benches for the owners and a beautiful and peaceful scenery. What I like most about this dog park is that there are plenty of bags for us to use to pick up poop and even a pooper scooper in both sections as well as a trash can and supplied doggy water fountains. I always come to the dog park and like that they have it sectioned for small dogs and large dogs. Everyone who goes to the dog park seems to be really attentive to their dogs and in the past four years have never witnessed a dog fight. Everyone seems very nice as well, I've made some dog owner friends since going here. I also run to this park almost daily, and love the running trail that goes through the little wooded area below the park- it's a nice change of scenery from roads and such, it's like my secret (even though not very secret) get away area. read more

This is a great dog park. Areas for big & little dogs, with plenty of room to run, and a dog drinking fountain. The people who bring their dogs here seem to have a clue, and pay attention to their dogs' behavior and body language. The area seems clean and well-kept. I took my dog here for the first time on advice from my groomer. The park is divided into two, one for small dogs and the other for larger dogs. The park is relatively clean and dogs are generally friendly. Since this was Penelope's first time, I was a little apprehensive but it only took her 5 minutes to decide and play with all her new friends. :) read more
