I like that this park has 3 separate pens based on dog size. They had multiple water bowls for for easier drinking. There was plenty of shade covering the tables. Very few piles of un-picked up up which is a good sign of responsible owners. Only con was the many holes in the ground from dogs that dig.

Park was nice and there were some great dogs along with friendly owners. The only problem was that honestly people who's dogs aren't dog friendly. My boyfriend and I took our 6 month friendly Doberman to the dog park and she got bitten by small chihuahua. It had happened within the first 10 mins, although our dog shook it off and didn't attack back it honestly was just not okay. Also there were other small dogs there weren't the best off leash and were aggressive towards bigger dogs. Not all but some of them just so you know.

    Cobi enjoying the dog park!

Nice dog park with separate areas for small and large doggos. Park tables and benches are available for humans and water fountains and enclosed grassy areas for doggies. This is a hit or miss when it comes to being occupied. Definitely more dogs on the weekends and after work hours. Cobi (my dog) is more of a loner - a rebel, lol, but she had a great time!

I decided to take my pup to this park on Sunday after we got home from being at Balboa Park all day. We were looking for something that was going to be open after 5pm since it was still light outside b/c of the time change. Decided to come here as I saw good reviews for it on Yelp and it was about 15 minutes from my apartment. It was a little hard to find initally...GPS said it was on the far left side of the park but we saw other dogs entering and exiting on the right side so we followed them... There are 3 separate areas at this park: 1 for large dogs, 1 for medium dogs and 1 for small dogs. The large dog park has a mix of grass, dirt and gravel while the small and medium parks have 100% grass. There are benches for the owners to sit down on, tree-shaded areas, water spigots to make sure your pooch stays hydrated and staging areas so that you can put a leash on/off your dog before letting them into the play area. Rocco thoroughly enjoyed playing fetch...he made a new friend and wasn't bothered by other dogs being overly aggressive. I will definitely be bringing him back to this park again :)

There is plenty of parking - we've come at all times of the day and have never had an issue. You climb up a small hill and at the top you reach a large open grassy field. The trees are surrounding the border so you get a little bit of shade on the edges depending on the time of day. Also around the borders there are concrete benches to sit at, but we usually bring our own chairs. Our dog loves the open space here! So much room to run after her frisbee or chase other dogs. She definitely had good interactions with the dogs here, most seem very well socialized and the owners we've met have been friendly. Some things to keep in mind: - There are no poop bags, so you should bring your own. For a place that doesn't have them available, most of the owners here appear very responsible and have their own to clean up after their own pet. I've seen other parks with bags on site and the owners still don't pick up after their dog. - there are no water stations/fountains. However there are bowls around so you can bring water to fill them. - there are no fences. So once you climb up the hill, you're in an open park that has a natural barrier of shrubbery but I think there could be potential for dogs to wander away or out of it. We feel comfortable with our pup because her recall is pretty good. - lastly, no bathrooms!

The best part of this park is that the people who come are so friendly and you get to play with their awesome dogs as well as your own. So many cute doggies!! I have found that the shared interest of dog ownership makes for endless hours of great conversation. On May 30, 2018, I adopted a rescue Doxle (aka Deagle) puppy. His name was Rocco and he had the body of a Daschund and the head of a beagle, big floppy ears and big feet. He had white feet and a white tipped tail. He was medium-sized, about 26 lbs. I started bringing Rocco in October 2018 as soon as he recovered from being neutered. He was super friendly with every dog he met and just wanted to play with everyone. I loved watching him play with other dogs here. We would arrange playdates with other dogs, including his best friend, Jack, a Cardigan Corgi. They would run around the small dog section for 90 minutes. This place was a godsend. As the saying goes, "a tired dog is a well-behaved dog", and my Rocco became much better behaved at home once I started visiting this park. On Nov 26, something tragic and fatal happened to Rocco. While i was out playing a tennis tournament match in La Jolla, my 80 year-old father-in-law somehow let Rocco escape from our backyard and Rocco died when he was hit by a car. 13 days later, an abandoned dog that turned out to be a Belgian Malinois, found me at Canyonside Park while I was teaching tennis. The next day, after going to Black Mountain Veterinary Hospital to check for a microchip, I found myself in the large dog section for the first time. I asked around if anyone recognized this dog. So many people were so helpful and concerned. Within an hour, two people offered to adopt the dog. One was a dog trainer who used to train this breed for the Police dept. My wife came and took over. She said that three people offered adopt her in the next two hours. In the last 6 days, I have visited this park every day. I have met so many great people and dogs. The reason I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 is that having visited the Poway dog park, it is easy to compare and realize that this place lacks the following amenities: 1. Lights 2. Grass - the large dog side is just dirt with no grass whatsoever 3. Picnic tables 4. Trees (for shade) 5. More seating - benches there is only one bench on the small dog side and two on the big dog side. This place is popular and gets crowded at times. I don't mind it being crowded, because having more dogs means more opportunity for my dog to play. But, it also means less chance of being able to sit down. a few picnic tables would be great.

The round trip from one end to the other was just under 12 miles. From the east, you start at Canyonside Community Park. The parking spaces closest to the trailhead were adjacent to baseball field #8 so keep that in mind. You can actually take one of two parallel trails westward, one north of the creek bed and one south of the creek bed, towards the "waterfall" which was about a three-mile distance. I have done both before with different groups of friends. There was quite a bit of shade on certain parts of the trek. You will need to watch out for dung as horse riding was permitted on the trails. The waterfall was an area of boulders where the creek has flowing water that descends maybe 20 feet over a distance of about 50 yards. At this junction, you can cross the creek from the north trail to the south trail or vice versa to head back east to Canyonside Community Park. I have never gone west of the waterfall, but one of these days I will do so or start from the Sorrento Valley side and head eastward.
