It looks like they turned a baseball field into a Hugh dog park. I like that they were able to repurpose the old field. There's a new baseball diamond near by. They all have grass,not weeds. SPACIOUS AND GRASSY (5 stats) It's so hard to find a good dog park in San Diego that has ample space, separation of big and small dog park, and grassy. It's in the heart of Poway at their civic center that has everything for the community. Lots of community and family public usages for their community-residence and very clean. We had a Pomeranian meetup here and imagine a ton of tiny Poms roaming safely and freely in a very spacious dog for smaller dogs. Occasionally some people brought their small to medium dog that had big dog energy in the area but all owners were respectful and watched their dog's actions. I didn't see a singly poop in the park and it was one of the cleanest dog parks I've been to. Too bad it's a far drive or we would be regulars. This was the first time I seen my new Pomeranian open up and play. She didn't want to leave and kept playing and playing after over an hour being there. I do wish there were some signs. The civic center area is big and we had walked around just to find the dog park section is in the back behind the baseball fields. Eve though it was a little distance walk, we felt very safe during the day. This is a friendly dog park. I went on a Saturday morning, so probably a busier time. It's divided for small, medium, and large dogs, which usually helps. Owners were watching their dogs pretty well, unlike some other parks I've been to. I found it via Yelp, so it was a bit hard to find in person, as directions have you park at the Boys & Girls Club. From the parking lot, follow the sidewalk to the left of the building and ver left to go around the baseball field to the fenced dog parks. read more

I like that this park has 3 separate pens based on dog size. They had multiple water bowls for for easier drinking. There was plenty of shade covering the tables. Very few piles of un-picked up up which is a good sign of responsible owners. Only con was the many holes in the ground from dogs that dig. read more

Don't go to this dog park it only has dirt surfaces. The only good thing it has is 3 different areas one for big dogs, one for medium dogs and one for little dogs but this park has bad dog parents who do not watch their dogs or teach their dogs how to interact with other dogs. When we were there a lady brought two dogs one medium and one small and she made her own decision to let both go in the small dog area. The medium size dog bullied and chased the small dogs in the gated area and outside the gate area before the dogs even got into the gated area and all the lady did was look at her phone and not say anything to her dogs. People like this should not be allowed to bring their dogs to a dog park. Our dog is a small shit tzu only 1 year old and I didn't want her dog to teach my dog how to bully. read more

Went here with my dog josie, she was a puppy, and I need to introduce her to a bunch of dogs, so I came here and there were three pens for dogs of various sizes, which is great and safe for my dog We walked around here until night time, and there was excellent lighting, especially from the baseball stadiums and the nearby school . I'm impressed by how well this place is taken care of. There are men and women bathrooms. And even though there is a nearby swamp, it is incredibly clean and brightly lit and well cleaned. Especially with a little kids playground nearby I enjoyed the swings and had my dog run around the playground a little bit to get her energy out . I like that there is also a tennis ball court in another playground on the other side of the swamp river and two bridges. Although I wish there wasn't many wood chips as the bottom of the playgrounds I think it's still great that we have so many activities to use and visit here all in one place and a library nearby.! read more

Here's why: + Plentiful picnic tables & benches + 3 separate pens for Large, Medium & Small breeds + Water bowls in every pen & clean water + Grass & dirt areas + Trees offer some much needed shade in the pens for those hot summer days + 90% of the time I've come, I've interacted with friendly & responsible dog owners + Once I even saw a pig (Hamlet) walking around, enjoying the company of dogs...Yes that happened! + Easy parking However, that being said, here are a few things to note when bringing your doggos here: - Make sure they are fully vaccinated & up to date with their shots so they don't pick up anything from other dogs - PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOGS. THIS IS A COMMUNAL PLAY AREA. - WATCH YOUR DOGS AT ALL TIMES- You cannot just drop your dog off & zone out reading a book/using your laptop. It is your responsibility to make sure your dog is behaving around others. - Be careful of using communal water bowls. It's always best to have your dog drink out of your own water & bowl to avoid catching anything contagious from other dogs - Do not bring your dogs here if they have kennel cough or any other contagious illness! - ADVICE: If your dog is between 15-20lbs like my dogs are, I recommend the medium pen. I've brought them into the Small before, but some owners of 10lb (& under) dogs get very easily upset if your dog so much as jumps over her or barks at her. The owners can be very sensitive, especially if you encounter an uptight, first time dog owner. You know what the type...so I much much prefer the owners in the Medium pen. read more

Our doggy has love this dog park since our first visit!! He was 6 months old and the other dogs were super cool to him. What I mean to say is they kicked his ass in a nice way, haha!! There was a bit of an initiation vibe but with good intentions. The dog owners are all really nice and I have had good chats with them whenever we go. I like that they have 3 sections: For Small dogs, Medium dogs & Large dogs. They are all fenced in and they have a water faucet and bag for poop. There are picnic benches and it is well-taken care of so it's a nice place to go and let the doggies run off of their leashes. I love Poway dog park! I've been taking my mixed large dog here for about a month and he loves it! There are three separate fenced spaces for small, medium, and large dogs and they are very suitable for your dogs size. I've never had any unpleasant encounters but do beware that some owners will not allow their dogs to be sociable (why bring them to a dog park?). You must leash your pet on the way to the entrance gates. They have picnic tables and some benches, plus all three of the areas have water stations available. There are usually poop bags around and lots of trash cans. The park is open until 10 and we've stayed until sunset but yet I'm not sure if there's lots of light from sunset until 10pm. Not a lot of pups around that time though. Beware: if your pup loves water, they'll definitely have a blast and will most definitely need a bath. There's a lot of mud around usually or pups will play in the water sometimes and that will create the mud. There's a good amount of grass too. read more

Park was nice and there were some great dogs along with friendly owners. The only problem was that honestly people who's dogs aren't dog friendly. My boyfriend and I took our 6 month friendly Doberman to the dog park and she got bitten by small chihuahua. It had happened within the first 10 mins, although our dog shook it off and didn't attack back it honestly was just not okay. We've been to a few dog parks and Poway made this dog park ideal. You have three different sections in this park for dogs. We belong to the large breed since we own a Boxer, name Duke. You'll know who he is, his collar has a name on it. Duke's the tall, dark and handsome grand champion Boxer who runs around looking for furry friends to play with. He summits to every dog he plays with, I'm assuming only because he's not an alpha and is kind hearted. Although, we have 1.2 acres and Duke has his own private dog park outside our home, we've been here several times. We've seen amazing pets, unexperienced pets, we've seen people not picking up after their pets. Please note you'll see this everywhere not just here so watch where you step. We come for the interaction! To watch him enjoy running around playing. Whether another dog is ruff housing ours, it's a dog park. We're steps away to intervene if they get to frisk ;) It's not the pets that ruin a dog park! Be a good pet owner and know your in charge of your mindset. Your pet can feel your energy, if you go in aggressive and aggregate, guess what.?. That energy is being follyour pet. Don't walk in thinking a PitBull is going to be aggressive, we've personally met several pit bulls here and never had an issue. Enjoy life and love your furry neighbors! read more

If you're coming here for the first time it can be a little difficult to locate, I used my iPhone app for directions and led us to park at the Soccer field, if you do just walk all the way down past the baseball field and viola you're there! Last Sunday my Pomeranian Meetup was hosting an event at the Poway Dog Park, it's once a month but always really great to see our friends. I used to work in Carmel Mountain and never knew this park existed! There are three fenced parks within the park itself, it gives a peace of mind to dog owners separating the sizes of dog but I would much prefer they all came together. The "little dog" park was a perfect size for all of our Poms, super spacious for runs and two tables for the pup-parent and a bench on the opposite side of the park. One thing the park could use is a drink station, there wasn't a water fountain for the pups, at least to my knowledge and it was a pretty warm day out. If you're coming here I would definitely suggest bringing a water bottle to for your fur babies! I wouldn't drive all the way up here on our own but if you live near by I would definitely suggest to come here. The park is spacious, people are friendly and the park is just really lovely. read more

I decided to take my pup to this park on Sunday after we got home from being at Balboa Park all day. We were looking for something that was going to be open after 5pm since it was still light outside b/c of the time change. Decided to come here as I saw good reviews for it on Yelp and it was about 15 minutes from my apartment. It was a little hard to find initally...GPS said it was on the far left side of the park but we saw other dogs entering and exiting on the right side so we followed them... There are 3 separate areas at this park: 1 for large dogs, 1 for medium dogs and 1 for small dogs. The large dog park has a mix of grass, dirt and gravel while the small and medium parks have 100% grass. There are benches for the owners to sit down on, tree-shaded areas, water spigots to make sure your pooch stays hydrated and staging areas so that you can put a leash on/off your dog before letting them into the play area. Rocco thoroughly enjoyed playing fetch...he made a new friend and wasn't bothered by other dogs being overly aggressive. I will definitely be bringing him back to this park again :) read more

The areas are quite large and there are plenty of seats and shade. Your pup is bound to be happy as long as it's not about to be mounted or attacked by another dog with a clueless owner. People! Pay attention! A dog park is not a free babysitting service. You need to be aware! If you see anyone staring at their phone instead of focusing on their pup, I suggest diligence or possibly cutting your visit short. We did. This is such a huge park! The dog park is located in the back of the actual Poway Community Park. It took a while for us to find it and the park itself is hidden since you need to walk a ways to get to it. I love that there are 3 different dog park areas. One area is for "larger" dogs, one area is for "smaller" dogs, and another area is unlabeled so any dogs can hang out. There are benches where dog owners can sit! I highly recommend you stop by with your furbaby! We were very impressed with all there is here in the Poway Community Park area and will be back next time to try some trails we saw! read more

The worst park we've ever been to. We were in the area and decided to check out a new dog park..TERRIBLE MISTAKE. Firstly, it took us a little bit to find, after walking in the wrong direction and finally asking someone at the children's park where the dog park was, we finally found it. First impression was "Wow, it's a decent size, nice grass and some shade spots (it was 11am and pretty hot). As we're walking in we hear an altercation of about 4 dogs ganging up on a medium/large labradoodle. We've been to enough parks to know this happens sometimes, so we continued in with high hopes of getting our 2 year old Australian Shepherds energy out. Within 5 mins these dogs are now ganging up on our dog. She's 50lbs and isn't a dog who just squeals and something small, she's a tough dog and knows how to hold her own. But these dogs were just being WAY too much, there was 2 huskies, a German Shepherd mix and Pitbull- ALL jumping at my dog biting her (and not playfully) And NONE OF THE OWNERS WERE DOING ANYTHING. My husband stepped in and was telling the dogs to back off so she could at least catch her breath and these dogs just keep jumping towards her trying to bite her and still no one is trying to contain their dog?? Finally they all back off without the help of their owners and we're comforting her trying to give her water away from everyone else, the Pitbull (absolutely nothing against pits my mom has 2 and they're the sweetest dogs ever) so the Pitbull keeps trying to jump on our dog and she's just pissed off at this point so she's snapping at him to say "hey, I've had enough just leave me be" and finally the Pitbulls owner comes over and starts trying to get his dog away and he makes a comment saying "well you are in the large breed dog park" the fuck does size matter in this situation?? Our dog plays rough all the time with Rottweilers, pitbulls, Great Danes, the biggest breeds of dogs she rough houses with and has never once been this overwhelmed where she felt the need to snap "non playfully" at another dog. Needless to say the people were assholes and very inattentive to their dogs and we will not be back. Thankfully we have MUCH nicer parks closer to us where people actually watch their dogs. HIGHLY recommended the Encinitas community dog park! read more

I don't know how it has a good rating because no grass, no shade, filthy with broken chairs. No water for the dogs or owners. It is very small but OK so what. So. I come here to Poway where there is plenty of room grass, water, other dogs to socialize with etc. Just wish I lived closer and it was easier to find I'd be there daily. We bring Mr. W's landlord dog here all the time. She unfortunately is not social with the other dogs so usually she just follows us around at the park. Nice quaint area. Bags for poop. There are three different fenced off areas for small, medium and large size dogs. Majority of the time dogs will socialize with each other while the owners chat a little and watch their dogs get their time with nature. And yes for those Pokemon Go players there are 3 PokeStops and a PokeGym in the middle sized dog fenced off area. read more

This is a wonderful dog park. Scratch that, this is my favorite dog park in the San Diego area. It is shaded, fenced, grassy, and clean! The park has 3 different enclosures. One for small, the second for mixed sizes, the third is typically for larger breeds but not exclusively. Each respective enclosure has water, poop stations, and picnic tables. My pup and I have never had any trouble with other dogs or owners. Most people are very aware and clean up! I have met lots of furry friends here! read more

Well kept dog park. Running water, large trees, three large open areas for small, large and mixed dogs. Poway keeps the grounds very nice. Most of the people who come here are super friendly. Often times they will remember your dog's name. It is a small walk from the parking lot. Behind the base ball fields. I had a bit of difficulty finding it the first time. Now it feels like a secret area. There are lots of doggie bags for #2. And trash cans to put them in. Please pick up after the pet, all will be happy. The one thing I find odd about this area is they allow animals in dog parks who haven't been spayed/neutered. This must be a San Diego thing, because a few of the surrounding dog parks do not have a policy on this. This is new to me. Most of the places I have lived have not allowed this. read more

The one thing I like about this dog park is that it is clean, all grass, and in a safe neighborhood. What made me never to want to go back here was the dog owners who were so rude. They like to put their nose in other dog owner's business talking bad about dogs who weren't fixed and only treating their dog well. My dog came up to some of the owners wanting to get pet but not only did most of them sneer at him they ignored him and told him to go away. One of their dogs attacked mines and they didn't even do anything about it. I told them that their dog was attacking mines and their response was that their dog don't like pomeranians. The next time he was attacked I picked him up ready to leave and they yelled at me saying to never pick up a dog at the dog park. Seriously, what the fuck. I've been to most of the dog parks in San Diego county, and this one is my favorite. Three different fenced areas for the dogs - divided by dog size. There is plenty of shade in all sections, picnic tables, and each area also has a water fountain. I sometimes take my small dogs to the big dog area, and they do just fine. It's rare to see poop that hasn't been picked up, and there are always poop bags available around the whole area. The lawn is well kept with mostly even terrain. I will make special trips to Poway with my dogs just to visit this park, I like it that much! read more

My dog is a goofy happy go lucky kind of guy. He runs up to anyone and any dog to play. But some of the dog owners get all snobby and don't like my 10 lb mix dog playing with their $800 yorkie or maltipoo. Give me a break. There have been several times where there's at least one person announcing to the entire park how expensive their dogs are and it's a safe breeder. BLAH BLAH. Who cares? I shouldn't let that bs get to me. Overall, the park serves it's purpose and it's a fenced in area for your dog to run, exercise, and be merry. =) read more

Roomie and I have been trying to check out the local doggy play areas to see where our little pack will fit in. This is not it!! It smells, the owners are all mostly older and a bit crotchity. We were in the small pen and the dogs were dogs but the unattended children were in need of leashes. Seems like picking up after your animal is a rare thing here too. I'm going to classify it all as a lack of courtisy for others. We will not be bringing our small pack here any time soon. read more
