This Summer and Fall were both beautiful at River's Edge. I am looking forward to getting pictures of all four seasons at this park!

(AUGUST 2025) I'd never seen the sunflower fields that my friends post about with their children…read moreand families until recently. It almost seemed unbelievable some of the imagery stemming from these 7,000 acres of natural beauty and outdoor recreation in the heart of scenic Missouri wine county. Once you are off highway 40, it's 50-55mph WINE-dy back roads to get there. Once you get into the turn in, it's a graveled road with a trailhead to the Katy Trail. Do not even think about having a clean car upon entering this place. It will get dirty and dusty. There are also (surprisingly) random humans running in the middle of the narrow driveway leading up to the sunflower field and ending at a boat ramp. I never understood why people never stick to one side of the road while on foot amongst VEHICLES. I find my friend and we exit our vehicles to begin our mini photoshoot in the sunflower fields. I felt like Candy(wo)man as the bees tended to the sunflowers while I freaked out thinking they'd sting me with my bright yellow shirt on and black skirt. It was so blissful to see sooo many beautiful BIG butterflies fly around us. The caterpillars were on like every leaf just hanging out like the Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland. It was nature at its finest. Sunflowers for as far as the eye can see. The sounds of bees (and flies) buzzing about. I tried to relax, and we got a few non-frantic pictures of me. I will wear pants next time and try to relax more. I was invading THEIR space, not the opposite.

This wooded boardwalk skirts a nature area, winding part-way around a marshy pond in the…read moresoutheastern section of O'Fallon's large Winghaven subdivision. A sidewalk continues the walk along the marsh. The boardwalk is best found by locating the Air Evac headquarters across the street. It's a wonderful natural teaching area and birdwatching location--especially for ducks and geese. Though not a long boardwalk it's probably a suitable distance for a busy toddler. The walkway above the marsh is in very good shape and safe for children. Though a larger child might climb over the railings it would be virtually impossible for a small child to work through them. There's plenty to see and point out in the marsh, which has a different character throughout the seasons. A gazebo at the western entrance offers a rest spot. Ramps at either end allow wheelchair accessibility. The marsh is maintained by the MO Department of Conservation while the subdivision maintains the boardwalk. This is not an O'Fallon city park; there are no restroom facilities. There is no designated area for parking.

The Katy trail is my favorite, but also love the other trails in the area. Dardenne Greenway was a fun ride from Cottleville to St. Charles Community College. Nice to bike off the road with no cars! They only had one each and only one balloon artist. Many kids waited almost an hour and got nothing. Only one vendor. A few food vendors. We wish there were more kids games but loved the mini golf, chalk and connect 4. Maybe next year bigger and better. One year they had tons of bounce houses and much more vendors.

The name could be changed from Sports Park to Soccer Park as there are no other other sports fields…read moreavailable here. However, there are 12 soccer fields that see plenty of weekend use in season. There are also a couple of picnic pavilions near a nice playground. A paved walking path circles the park. Concessions stands--seldom open--and restrooms are available. O'Fallon's community recreation complex, the Renaud Center, is nearby-- separated from the soccer fields by a couple of par 3 golf courses. Renaud has its own Yelp! page. The Renaud Center is an excellent facility for swimming, basketball, volleyball, fitness, indoor cycling, and community activities. It's open to non-residents as well as residents.

Jungle gym, sand volleyball court, basketball court, fenced-in dog park, level and paved hiking trail and large field for soccer (including goals) are all here to enjoy. Thereis also pavilions, restrooms, and a small cottage. This is what makes St Charles County so great.

We came to see the Sculpture "The Awakening" which is a massive sculpture of a giant who is struggling to get out of the ground. It's not a single sculpture but five separate sculptures that make up "The Awakening". Great park to visit - not only for the sculpture but for some peace and quiet.

The flat, 8-mile walking/biking path winds through a forest and along a creek. It's good for all ages and abilities. Mostly shaded in summer it's open in winter from native trees that have shed their leaves. Dog friendly. The path is extended by linking to other paved trails. Its northern point links to the City Centre Trail to City Centre Park on Mexico Road. At the southern point at Willott Road it links to Country Creek Trail to Covenant Park. An eastern spur connects to Alan Oscar Park. A baseball diamond, basketball court, two tennis courts, and football/soccer field cover sports interests in Spencer Creek Park. Two picnic pavilions and a large playground, which includes musical elements, will appeal to families. Restrooms available.

The dog park portion, however, is hit or miss if it's open or closed, which is frustrating, especially if you don't live close by and have to drive all the way over just to see the sign that says closed. For example super not super hot. Just a nice day and of course it's closed which is really aggravating. I would try to go to. It's typically for your dogs instead of making the trek over.
