While driving home from Rocky Mount, NC, my friends saw a billboard for a distillery....the rest is history lol We stopped into this modern rustic distillery that is just 5 years old, and loved it! We were welcomed as soon as we got out of our car and had a wonderful yet short experience. Just 5 minutes off I95 it's definitely worth checking out. Nice little bar with beautiful outdoor patio. Creative cocktail menu as well as a few local beers. There is an extensive selection of liquors that they distill as well as imported Tequilas. Opted for 5 shot tasting of bourbons. All were very tasty. I've wanted to stop here for years, and I finally got to go with my lovely girlfriend. We stopped here on our way up dropping my godsons off to their home in Fayetteville back to VA. We had THE best tour guide ever and enjoyed the tasting afterward. Highly recommend stopping- it's only 6 min off 95. I stumbled on the distillery while driving back to Fl from PA. I didn't have time for a tour but did a tasty. I LOVED the caramel green apple whisky so much I took home two bottles as well as the cinnamon vodka. Our tasty guide was great and even mixed some of the apple with their cinnamon vodka and tasty like apple pie. The whiskey's and bourbons were also excellent and took home. A bottle of the soldiers cut as well. All of them were very smooth and had great taste. They also have two rums on their tasting list. If you're in the area or just driving through, it is definitely worth the short detour off of I-95 to check them out. read more

So we fell upon this distillery when we were coming back from getting the car fixed that's another review later. We decided to go in and check it out and they have a five dollar tasting. The great thing about this tasting is that they offer of a variety of spirits. They have whiskey, vodka, gin, and tequila. I tried a couple of the tequilas and the whiskey. After our tasting, we went and had amazing drinks. Paul and Casey I think was her name was super helpful and gave great service. We also got to meet Jason who was also an excellent server and we met the manager of the location. They don't have food, but they're normally food trucks and there's a restaurant maybe a half a block away and you can bring the food in while enjoying the spirits. read more

With a little time to kill before a concert at the theater, I was looking forward to trying the distillery. First off, they have amazing service. Very personable, very engaging. the staff knows how to make a customer really feel welcome. The taster was 5 samples for $5, not a bad deal at all. I was explained the differences in the various spirits so I was making informed decisions on what I was trying. From there, I headed into the bar to try one of their cocktails. And this is one impressive bar. They even have their own dehydrator to make garnishes for the drinks. I tried the Blarney Stone, which had their Rockfish whiskey, cinnamon vodka, lemon juice, fig syrup, cherry and lemon. It was a weird combo to be sure, but that was a smooth, enjoyable drink. Definitely worth another visit here, I'll be taking the tour next time around. read more

We detoured 100% because of the billboards on the interstate boosting their award winning spirits! A very new distillery- they were making huge waves in competitions right off the bat! Located in a historic mill! The property is beautiful, with all the charm- the brick building had a gorgeous bar room and tasting room. I believe they even had event space. The spirits were fantastic, we may have left with numerous bottles- the house vodka and house gin were both too good of a deal to pass up and fantastic spirits! They made inexpensive house spirits so local bars and restaurants could offer cocktails with their spirits! Get the word out! We also got the Soldiers Cut bourbon whiskey & the barrel aged gin, which was very yummy. Plus the staff was fun and informative- even if my adhd had me jumping ahead on the tasting menu details! read more

While driving down from VA I kept seeing billboards for the distillery. The distillery also happened to be at the same exit we took to get some lunch and gas. We had some time to kill so we figured why not give them a try. While I had never really heard of the brand prior, I was curious to see what their whiskey was like. They had won an Ascot Award, so I knew it had to be good. The building is a beautiful rustic brick building, the whiskey is delicious, and the employees are wonderful. Although the whiskey is fairly young, it still holds its own in comparison to big brands. It was nice to be able to have a quick pour and just relax while on vacation. Would definitely recommend checking them out, or even buying a bottle of their whiskey if you come across it in a store! read more

Nestled in my quiet little hometown of Weldon, North Carolina, this old sewing factory has been remodeled into a wonderful distillery. The folks are always friendly, welcoming, and happy to make your acquaintance. No food is served here but just around the corner round yonder there are a few places like the old gas station that has been remodeled into a restaurant that has good food. When I go home to see my MaMa who is still down there in the Double R, that's what we locals call, "Roanoke Rapids," I make sure my husband and I stop in to re-up on our finely made spirits. Funny thing is, we live in DC where there's a liquor store on almost every corner but there's something about the quality and care that goes into the making of this liquor. I've never been a hard liquor drinker but WMD and the Apple Caramel Whiskey are so smooth that it makes it very easy to drink. We also picked up some new cans of sparkling vodka water to try those out. And I like those!!! It's time to make another trip down to see my MaMa, pick up some more WMD, sparkling vodka water, Apple Caramel Whiskey, and a bottle of that Maple Whiskey for my friend who really enjoyed that. She drank it in her hot tea during the winter months. I Love Weldon Mills Distillery and I hope more people will stop by. We greatly enjoyed our tasting experience, very knowledgeable and friendly staff who love dogs., 5 samples for $5.Lovely restored building close to the river. Staff were incredibly friendly and the cocktails were amazing. Unfortunately what turned off us was the fact that a circus (unsure actually category of this?) show was hosting the facility with an event that was rained out and moved to the upstairs of the distillery. One of the women who was running the ticket booth upstairs for said event (outside hired contractor it seemed) had a sheep dog unleashed running the property that cornered our service dog and tried to attack him twice in the bar area. The dog ran up to our leashed animal and started barking and snipping at our dogs face. I'm sure security caught this on the cameras so please reference. Everyone at the bar jumped to our aid thankfully to try and protect our dog and shoo the aggressive, unleashed dog out the side door. Astonishingly the actual dog's owner was nowhere to be found for a solid 20 minutes. We saw another show employee put the dog on a leash and walk the property until the dog was eventually handed over to a blonde woman in an orange shirt. There are leash laws for a reason. This could have gone a totally different way for us and our service dog. I'm glad it didn't. But a word of caution to the owners and anyone else with a registered service animal. A million awful scenarios flashed before our eyes. We passed by here on our way back to Richmond with high hopes and while the cocktails and bartenders were so sweet and attentive, for liability reasons and the safety of our service animal we might stay clear of this place in the future. read more

So glad we stumbled on this place while out in this area! Situated at the end of the Roanoke Canal Trail, this distillery does it all, bourbon, whiskey, gin, and vodka. They also have tequila. Every product is exactly as they describe from the initial sip to the last drop. We purchased tickets online for the tour, initially for later in the evening, but our day went different than planned, and we were there hours earlier than originally thought. They let us change our tour time with no problem! The tour is $5 and you get to pick your own 5 to sample. Sounds great, but good luck picking 5 because everything sounds amazing! Guides are knowledgeable and explain each sample, and walk you through the entire distilling process during the tour. After the tour, suppose.you could before, there is a little bar area in the back where you can get a drink featuring one of their spirits If you enjoy distilleries and are anywhere near this area, absolutely check them out! Worth the trip for sure! We brought a few bottles home and will definitely be making sure our local ABC store carries these! They have a place in Durham as.well, haven't been there, but as long as the same liquor, it sounds like a good idea to me! read more

Small but mighty! This cute distillery is not going to stay a secret for very long. They are award winning and it shows. Their customer service shines as much as their spirits. Shout out to Shannon for being a wonderful host. The All Malt bourbon is a highlight of their bourbon collection, drinks smoothly with a high octane punch that sneaks up on you. Drink it real slow, let the subtle oak and caramel flavors wash over you like that Joe Cocker song (You Can Leave Your Hat On), enjoy the vanilla honey finish that is simply sensuous and leaves you wanting more. Surprisingly smooth and easy to sip, pour yourself a few fingers by the campfire with your closest friends or by the fireplace with that special someone. Get a couple of these limited bottles, as it won't last long on your shelf at home and will sell out soon I suspect. Also of note, are their vodkas, gins, and tequilas. The Orange Tequila has the a delightfully, soft orange flower fragrance on the tip of your nose and a touch of fruit loops on the lips, which sounds as fun as it is delicious. Blood Orange margaritas here we come, we won't be waiting for summer! Equally distinctive and wonderful surprise is the raspberry rose and lychee vodka. Sounds intimidating, but the distinctive rose opens up with the delicate lychee flavors that are subtle, yet provocative. I was instantly transported back to an exotic experience in Thailand. Pair this one with spicy Asian food or a salty sushi. Also, makes for a unique and sophisticated cocktail shaken with crushed ice and lemon rind on the rim with a splash of bubbly to top it off, garnish with fresh blueberries & lemon rind for mimosas that go with any brunch menu. Trust me, you will be the talk of the town! We ordered an Old Fashion cocktail. Delicious!! We spoke with Bruce (Owner) and he explained his 5 yr plan with enthusiasm. Very cool. Took the Tour & tasting with Nicholas, and of course, we brought home a few of our favorites.......... Soldier's Cut Bourbon ~ 82 proof, House Vodka~ 80 proof, & their Barrel Aged Gin~ 91 proof (good to just sip too ) They let us park overnight in our 43 ft Class A Coach with the Harvest Host program. Plenty of room for Big Rigs. The Roanoke River (& rapids) run right behind them, as well as a great park next door. Great walking area. A lot of people fishing on the river. Decided to give this distillery a chance and signed up for the tour and tasting. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the bourbon and ended up buying 4 bottles! The distillery itself is pretty typical of a small boutique establishment and they use mostly smaller barrels to rapidly age their distillate. Our tour guide, the tasting host, and bartenders were all very knowledgeable and enjoyable. Give this place a try and support our local businesses! read more

The way they described each bourbon was detailed oriented. The bourbon that they have there are definitely the best that I've had and definitely making the trip down there to buy some more when needed. We visited this place during our stay in Roanoke Rapids, and from the location to the service to the whiskey, this place is amazing. First, we walked down to the Roanoke River, where there are picturesque rapids that you can literally dip your toes into. There's a concrete area you can just sit and enjoy the river, next to the locals fishing. We walked a little up the river banks to the rapids, and enjoyed the warm southern breeze and the sound of the rapids. Finally ready for whiskey, we walked up to the distillery and sat down at the bar. We were greeted by Rachel, who was warm, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the whiskeys. We opted for the 4 free tastings because we were driving. I got the Peach Elderberry, Southern Roots, Soldiers something or other and something else I forgot. My husband has the Caramel Apple whiskey, and the reserve whiskeys. Each whiskey was better than the last (though my favorite was the Peach Elderberry and Rockfish, and my husband loved their best-selling Caramel Apple). We've been to Macallan and Johnnie Walker tastings, and this whiskey is right up there with those. Weldon Mills Distillery makes a damn fine whiskey! This is a very friendly place, with strangers striking up good-natured conversations, and hearty laughter ringing throughout. The tasting room seems to be located in one of the old canal buildings, which adds another layer of interest. They didn't do much to modernize the place, which we loved! We loved the whole experience - sitting for a spell by the river, watching it lazily roll past, then enjoying incredible whiskey among strangers that soon became friends for the moment. We left with two very reasonably-priced bottles - one Rockfish whiskey, and one Caramel Apple whiskey; and a promise to be come back soon. PS - ask for the Rachel's Claw cocktail!! read more
