What a great local find! My friend and I had planned to come to Letty Mae's tea room while in Morris but it was unexpectedly closed that day so we needed to pivot. Weits awaited us! We liked that the menu had regular and mini sized options; the mini Colonel Sanders (fried chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and peppered chicken gravy) was plenty for lunch and delicious! They seemed short staffed, but the one waitress was very nice. The food was above average. We had the Rueben and hot roast beef. Loves the homemade french fries. Biggest complaint- it was freezing. Granted, the outdoor temp was only around 10 degrees.- but everyone was wearing their coats because it was so cold. read more

I would never go into Weits now that they changed ownership. They did away with the very large cinnamon bun and changed the menu completely.

Chicken sandwich not seasoned (bland) and was missing the sauce it should have come with. It was a large chicken breast but was on a bun way too small for the sandwich. It was like one of those cheap hamburger buns you get at Aldi. I ended up having to eat it with a fork and knife as the bun was useless and fell apart. Fries were pretty good. The outside of this place looks like it's a 50s style cafe but I was disappointed when I entered to see it was more modernly decorated inside and kind of dark. Service was good. read more

My wife and I are always on the lookout for two sandwiches: a pork breaded tenderloin and a Reuben. I'm an Indiana boy and tenderloins (and Pizza King) are things we hold in great regard. And a great Reuben- well, that has to be just so- Marbelled rye, enough corned beef, good sauerkraut. Weits is 100% on both. We both were blown away. The tenderloin was about 9 X 6 inches round,. The Reuben had at least 11/4 inches of corned beef . The restaurant was clean, new furnishings, not expensive, great service, and quick. Recommended. read more

What a great lunch! My husband and I were randomly in the area and stopped in and I'm sooo glad we did. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu, it all sounded so good! I'll describe this little place as quaint and comfortable. The waitress (owner I do believe) was sweet as blueberry pie. Funny, that's exactly what I had after my meal! The pie was delicious (made by locally owned No Reservations). The meal that I had at Weit's cafe was the Weit's hot beef. Literally took me back to my childhood. The gravy was flavorful, the meat had great flavor, and the mashed potatoes were made from real potatoes (not some flaky fake powder)! Even the bread was fresh! Morris a quiet little town. Weirs Cafe is like eating in Mayberry. Food was excellent, the Smash burger was so good. Had the Turkey Chili Soup too. Our server was very friendly and polite. This place was packed all the tables full of people enjoying the down home feeling of this place. read more

I recently stopped in for dinner by myself. Wanted to try it since the new ownership. Was not disappointed at all. Not a huge menu but a good variety. I had the Rueben with a side of pasta salad. The Rueben was very tasty with a decent portion of meat. The pasta salad had a spicy spin. Friendly waitstaff and food was served quickly. All i can say is wow. We popped in today on a whim and had one of the best meals in a long time. I had the burger, when cut in half I could smell the freshness of the beef, and the topping went perfectly together. My wife had the chicken sandwich which made me want to cry it was so good. Our daughter had pancakes (I ate her bacon) and they were better than just about any I've ever had. Our son had a kids breakfast of an egg, sausage patty and biscuit of which he polished off. We managed to sneak a bite of his biscuit and it was amazing. The homemade chips are BETTER than my long-time favorite, RJ Grunts in the big bad city of chicago. Service was fast. I love the homemade and freshness of everything we had. Keep in mind we came in an hour before closing. Next time I will be having some kind of corned beef dish as it was confirmed they cook it in house, and it was proven when I smelled it come out of the oven. I'm a corned beef snob, btw. The city of Morris continues to amaze me with its historic district. And to think I've been driving right past all of this headed for the river to go fishing. read more

The new Weits - yes I recommend. The old Weits- yuck lol. It's all new inside with a whole new menu. Clean and updated. Only cons- no gluten free options but salads. And I tried having a iced coffee and it was gross. Was simply chocolate syrup with no coffee. read more

My mom & I decided to try this place on a friend's recommendation. We usually go to R Place in Morris but once seated, we realized they changed their menu and left and went to Weits. The server was super friendly and attentive. I ordered the meatball sub which was decent (not the best I've ever had). The meatball sub was $12 for a mini or half version. It was filling. My mom ordered their smashburger. She really loved the burger and the fries. I had a side of homemade mashed potatoes with my meatball sub and surprised to find out that the mashed potatoes were real potatoes and not the flake dehydrated ones out of box. The server was nice enough to give us the option of having a to go cup on our beverages free of charge which not a lot of places do anymore. FYI there is a surcharge on the bill if you don't pay cash. Would definitely try this place again when passing through Morris. read more

I'm plant-based and vegan, so I didn't have high hopes for this small town; however, after speaking to an old-time local, they recommended this restaurant. The vegan options were minimal, but more than plenty could be modified to vegan or vegetarian. So this was a breakfast stop on a Friday. 11am A very clean place. Washrooms also. Service is fast and attentive. Prices are in line for the food served. The food is good. Served hot. The plates need to be preheated. It helps to keep the food hot for slow eaters. They should butter the toast also. Menu says sausages. They are patties. If I had known this I would have had bacon. The chairs are not comfortable as they are hard metal. During our stay the place got very busy. A older crowd. 50 plus. The background music has excellent sound. I thought I was good to go ordering breakfast sandwiches for my family. $60+ dollars for 8 sandwiches with a great tip. I got the sandwiches home. The croissant was dry and flavorless. Kind of microwaved and hard in spots. Bacon was re heated. Egg fried thin and kind of rubbery. Cheese was not melted. The sandwich was almost inedible. 3 people didn't want to eat it. No flavor. I wish i could say this place was awesome. I don't want it to happen to someone else. Don't waist your money. Find somewhere better. The chef doesn't care about the dish. The coffee is so dark and there are no flavored creamers or lattes like previously. It seems to be under different ownership than a few years ago. I am at a loss for words, (in a good way!)-- Immediately upon entering Weits Cafe in Morris, I was absolutely astounded to see just a lovely community of people enjoying their time here. The staff was in good spirits and the customers all had big smiles as they are the food and sipped on their drinks. I came exclusively for a coffee, and the kind girl at the desk, Mikayla, served me and my two other friends with an immense amount of enthusiasm. He energy and passion for coffee alone made the experience 10x better than I could ever expect. She even told us she made our lattes with love!! How sweet! The flavor of my iced latte was exactly how I anticipated and then some. I definitely can say we all left with huge smiles. The waitress walked by us 4 times had enough time to grab her tip from the table next to us without a hello I'm sorry I'll be right with nothing busses a table very slowly and not once in 15 minutes even glanced our way. Our party of 3 was in on a recent Saturday for lunch. One in our party ordered the corned beef hash and received several slices of corned beef instead with his breakfast, (no hash) I ordered the chicken, cranberry, apple salad with the feta on the side. There were no apples, even though that's in the name of the item and the feta was not on the side. If they were making these changes to our orders or out of the hash and apples, we should have been told and allowed to change our orders. VERY noisy place and loud music was playing, everyone trying to talk over it. I don't believe there were any issues with the last person in our party, he seemed ok with his omelet. Haven't been here in years, but very pleasantly surprised by the remodelled interior and new menu. We stopped here for breakfast and were happy to find two vegan options on the breakfast menu: black bean breakfast wrap & vegan hash browns with mushrooms, tomatoes, onion, and green peppers. We ordered both items and split them between us; they were excellent. We are coffee snobs and found the coffee here to be pretty decent too. The servers are very friendly and attentive. I have eaten here twice and the food is great. They are using fresh eggs which I love! Place could be bigger. It's always crowded. Only complaint they advertise a bottomless mimosa or Bloody Mary when my friend and I inquired about getting that they said they can't serve it until after noon and this was on a Saturday! Liking some of their interesting new menu items, we started going here every weekend for a late breakfast. More healthy options than a typical diner, although service is usually a bit on the slow side due to what appears to be understaffing. Today, though, we got there around 1:45pm and walked in just to be informed that they had decided to close early (we had checked their website beforehand, which said they closed at 3pm), and to come back Wednesday. My Husband and I were in last weekend and weren't overly impressed. We want to like it, we really do. Theres so few good breakfast places in town and we just wanted to be blown away. My husband had just eggs, their seasoned cubed potatoes and bacon, he ordered his eggs over medium but the whites were pretty runny. I was so excited to try their housemade corned beef hash (which is always a gutsy move but its one of my favorite breakfasts and I figured I'd attempt the home-made because that can be promising!) and was greatly disappointed. The corned beef seemed to really resemble deli corned beef (and corned beef itself is salty enough without deli style!) But then the only thing added were their cubed SEASONED potatoes. The dish was unbearably salty. I ate my eggs and toast because no one checked on us for quite sometime. My husband was finished by the time the waitress did her first table touch. We notified her of the inedible hash, she made note to tell the chef and that was all. No offer for something else or even a few dollars comped off the bill (because I did eat the eggs. Id never expect a full meal comp). I guess I was just a tad disappointed. And my meal was over 11 dollars for possibly deli corned beef hash. Ugh We will go back in hopes some new-resturant-kinks get worked out. Hopefully I'll be back with an updated, more positive review in the future! read more
