Luckily, i was able to snag the last box of Thin Mints and a box of Trefoils, so I am not complaining. Since I was already at the location, I thought why not try the restaurant. I did not know what to expect and honestly I did not factor in that it was a buffet. Coming from Miami originally (though currently living in Saint Albans), I was lucky (no pun intended ^_^) to have had some really great buffets to experience in Miami, FL (ie. Kyojin in South Miami, Canton in Coral Gables, POC in Coral Gables) but I was craving Chinese food as I had not had any in so long. Lucky Buffet did not disappoint. They had sit down dining service as well as to go service. I am not sure if they deliver. If they did that would be amazing! But it was pretty busy which is always a good sign for a restaurant because it means they are doing good business and there is a demand for it. I ended up eating with my eyes and then my stomach because i filled 2 to go containers with a variety/assortment of foods like General Tso's chicken (my favorite), chicken & broccoli, crunchy and flavorful snap peas, crispy wonton noodles, very breaded/fluffy battered chicken tenders, and some vegetable fried rice that i doused in the General Tsao's sauce). I also got some of these Buttered scalloped potatoes which O-M-G were so darn good. They also had sliced onion mixed into the batch and no complaints there. It came out to a total of $38. There was a sign that said it was like $7.95 for pound of food and I figured I would splurge since I am not sure when I would be back there. I walk everywhere and in the cold, frigid temps, it's a bit cumbersome (and dangerous) to walk with food like that over icy sidewalks and slushy-muddy snow. I can't speak to what dining in would be like, but it seemed pretty decent. There was a steady flow of customers coming in and out which is always good to see. I also liked how they had fortune cookies sitting on display in the middle of the place for guests to take. I took about six lol I can't resist a good old fashioned fortune cookie:) If I ever happen to be walking by again, I would consider it again, but it is a lot of food. So you have to go on an empty stomach and also try not to over indulge or else you will have tummy issues. Chinese food is notorious for having MSG, but I am not sure if they use that there. I will say that they had a pretty decent dessert bar and ice cream selection. The people of Saint Albans are "lucky" to have this restaurant in their midsts. Also parking is pretty ample for those that have vehicles and the restaurant itself seemed pretty clean and well organized. If buffet items got low, they immediately would replenish them. The food was hot and ready to go. A plus was the little keychains being sold at the front at the counter. I had to get a Stitch one because I love the Stitch character. He's so cute ^_^ They also had a Spiderman one and Hello Kitty one so any fans of those characters would be pleasantly surprises and amused to see them being sold there once you check out and pay. Okay, this is the first Buffet des Continents in Quebec at which I've eaten, having eaten here a…read morefew times. I also tried the Brossard location once. My last experience was at this location in St.-Jerome and I'm writing an update for it. Let me say that this is a very nice store. This northern suburb skews newer and this restaurant aligns with that observation. It's also nice that it has a mezzanine and even an outdoor upstairs seating patio. This location has the leaning tower of Pisa in the midst of it while Brossard has the Eiffel Tower, making this chain kitsch in this regard, albeit with "clear" branding. I went with the typical 4 plate system: salads and vegetables, entrees 1, entrees 2, and desserts. I also had coffee. The variety of food is quite vast. Popular foods tend to be North American/Canadian, Italian, Greek, and some Asian and Mexican choices. There is also a rotisserie and carving station. The first plate with the salads and vegetables was uniformly good. For the most part, the second plate, with meat and fish, was also good. I had some issues with the third plate, upon which I had put on some slices of pizza and a small Greek casserole. Some of the items tasted a little flat, with the Greek casserole in a round tin being especially so. Then, the fourth plate was good, and it had different flavors of jello, cake, as well as pudding Chomeur. I laughed at all the jello that was on display, thinking that the residents of a senior housing locale would be very excited by all that jello! As for the pudding Chomeur, it wasn't as moist as what I had at the Brossard location. I want to add that I went into this Buffet des Continents within an hour of closing. I was immediately told that, because it was a week night and the patronage was a little low, it was not likely that additional food would be added. This could account for some of the mains being a little bland after sitting out for a while. The apparent manager was very friendly and helpful. The younger employees servicing the table were nice enough. However, in going up to the buffet area to get the next plate, I found my table cleared off not once, but twice! They rectified it and the manager explained that some staff members were newer. I found these errors both irritating and funny because, with a packed house on a wintry day in Brossard, the serving staff there seemed to have connected with the patrons, as in engaging with them and remembering them, such that my table was never erroneously cleared. For four plates of food, the week night dinner price was definitely fair. I also like that this store/chain has adopted a system whereby you can have an automatic 12% put onto the tab that will act as a tip. I like that they chose a percentage between 10 and 15, which is about where I tip when at an AYCE/buffet sort of set-up. Take note that there has been a name change. Buffet des Continents is now Saveurs des Continents, which means "flavors of the continents" in French. This store could easily get back up to 4 star status. They have a very nice restaurant that is spacious, quirky, and interesting, and the distribution of what they feature has something for almost everyone. They just need to fix a few of the blander items, such as some that I mentioned, and it will be all good ... at least in my book.

It stands alone because…read moreit is a very unique experience in Montreal, let alone being in the Casino de Montreal, which is on a much smaller island in the St. Lawrence River than the large island that Montreal itself occupies. At one point, I believe I reviewed the original buffet here years ago, which was then closed for revamping. That means that it was updated ... and not outfitted with a new entourage of vamps. The old buffet was in a large interior room where the walls were painted in a medical grade robin egg blue that just felt weird. However, I gave it 5 stars because of how fleshed out the buffet line was, how delicious the desserts were, and how much I liked the mid-week lunch price. I recently went here for the Express Lunch Buffet. This means the lowest price tier to have a meal at the Pavillon 67 buffet. Common sense dictates that there will be several tiers of prices depending on the day and the meal. Lunch mid-week will be less expensive, and that's what this was. Brunch on weekends will cost a little bit more. Dinners at the buffet will be more expensive, with Friday nights, weekends, and special events being the most expensive. For this price, which looks even nicer when translated into American currency, don't be looking a gift horse in the mouth. They are able to do this because the selection is limited but still sensible. There will be two major entrees and a type of pasta or two, not to mention pizza slices. The salad bar is actually respectable. The dessert choices are also adequate, with the items being tasty. I helped myself and paced myself to 4 plates: one for salads, one for the main entrees, one for pizza, and one for a few select cookies and pieces of pie. While it didn't rock my world, all of it was perfectly fine, if not good. I also had coffee that they'd come by and refill as necessary. With that thought, the service received from everyone was amicable, with a few even being humorous. Remember, this is Quebec and Gallic sensibilities prevail. It wouldn't be typical in either Calgary or Edmonton, where the friendliness is of the Western Canadian variety. I prefer Montreal styled cheekiness. The pricing for this mid-week adventure was to my liking. Lastly, one needs to mention how nice the space occupied by the Pavillon 67 is, up on a higher floor in the Casino de Montreal. It is very tastefully finished. I had heard that there was a view back to Montreal. It is in an adjacent spill-over room that was not being used for lunch and/or the room in which the dinner buffet is held. You can see Centre-Ville from there, but the angled metal slats from the casino's trendy exterior design intrude to some degree. If you are looking for something like a Bellagio (or Manhattan 5-star hotel) buffet, where it starts to look like and be priced like a gourmet buffet, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a little less choice from a sensible selection of solid food across the different courses, not to mention being in a nice environment with good natured personnel and fair pricing, then check out the Pavillon 67 buffet in the Casino de Montreal.
