I went to this diner for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised! I really like the old fashioned ambience of the place with all the little stools and booths, it has the nice old diner feel to it and it's very comforting. Staff was very kind. The food was delicious! I got french toast with chocolate chips and bacon on the side and my partner got eggs benedict. I am partial to greasy-spoon local diners that attract a more seasoned, silvery clientele. It just gives me such warm nostalgia-feels for all the times I sat in places like that with my Gram. And Wehrle Diner perfectly fits this bill. The setting is unassuming and homey, with plenty of booths. The staff is inviting, with an edge of diner-gruff. And the menu is simple and affordable. You will find your typical diner burgers, sandwiches, wraps, Greek options, breakfast all day, and comfort-food dinners, like spaghetti and meatloaf. On our first visit, the waitress told us to sit wherever we'd like. We picked a booth in the front window. It was comfortable, and soothing to watch the Harlem-traffic-circles traffic go by. I asked if they had decaf tea, which was a quick 'yes', and the hubbs had a cup of coffee. My tea was served with a cup of hot water, and that sweet little silver side pot. For eats, my husband ordered the Wehrle Burger, which is topped with bacon and a fried egg. I threw the waitress a curveball. I said if it's a total no-go, no problem, but I asked if they could do the Reuben with a veggie burger instead of corned beef (I am vegetarian). At first she shook her head in confusion, which would have been totally fine as I was ordering off the menu. But then she came around and said, "Yeah, you know what, I think we can do that." I told her she made my day, as I was craving some kraut-and-thousand island flavors, just sans-meat. The restaurant was moderately busy, but our food didn't take long to arrive. My husband's Wehrle burger was HUGE--a thick juicy patty, overflowing off the edges of the big fresh bun. He had to start it with a fork and knife to shave it down a bit, before heaving the hefty beast up into his mouth with his hands. It was a mammoth and scrumptious burger. :-D We both had fries with our sandwiches, which were served steamy hot. They were typical diner fries, not too skinny, not as big as steak fries, but fluffy on the inside with a little crisp on the outside. A crunchy, cold pickle spear finished off each of our plates. As for my impromptu veggie burger Reuben, it was a pretty good curveball. The flavors I was hoping for were all there, with gooey melted swiss, and tangy thousand island and kraut. I would have liked a bit more kraut, it was a little under-stuffed IMHO. But for the price and the kindness to make it, I can't complain much. And the fact that this mom-and-pop old-school diner has veggie burgers on the menu at all is a nice option. Regarding the service, like everywhere else these days, they are understaffed. It was a bit busy when we were in at dinner time, and for a while it looked like our waitress was the only server. She didn't bring drink refills, and forgot a side salad my husband ordered, but we were not charged for it. Eventually a second waitress appeared, who did bring more coffee for my husband, but he never did get a water refill. For now, I'll let these service shortcomings slide, as it is tough times staffing-wise for all restaurants. Under normal circumstances, I may let it go too, since I sort of expect an Ursula'esque caliber of waitress when I come to a kitschy old-school diner. It adds to the charm. And the food was fully satisfying, and priced well (our total bill for two with drinks came to $28). So we'll be back to eat our way though some more of the menu options, and enjoy the throwback vibes, for sure. read more

If this diner were frequented by sheep, it would be known as the Woolly Diner. What to get: Chicken Souvlaki Dinner, or Open Chicken Souvlaki for the smaller appetite. My recent experiences here were nothing short of infuriating, but I still have plenty of respect and love for the diner despite the price hikes, oftentimes horrendous service, and mediocre tasting food. It should really get a 3 by now, but I'm going to stick to supporting these local souvlaki places even though they can't all be Apollo on South Park. Mixed reviews so I went here not knowing what to expect, but I came upon one of the best diners in Buffalo. Recently I went back for a sit-down meal and it was even better than it is for take out. Some of the waitresses are "ridiculously good looking" but that has nothing to do with why I like it here. Every bite of the food was decent. The salad wasn't bad. The chicken was hot, large portion, juicy, not too bad. The prices were cheap. The Greek Oil was fantastic. Buffalo specializes in Chicken Souvlaki, and this is one of the very best examples of it. The only thing I wasn't into at all was the chocolate milkshake. It tasted a bit too much like chocolate milk and didn't do it for me, so I'd skip the shake if I were you and focus on the food. But seriously, ignore the bad reviews. It's a typical Greek Diner, and Buffalo has many of them, it's not bad but it's not the best. Apollo, Family Tree, Towne, Alton's are the other really good ones but Apollo is a class apart. Buffalo Joe's and Lake Effect are the best all-American non-Greek diners. If this diner was owned by BMX experts it would be known as the Wheelie Diner. For take out, I've only had one thing, and that was the Open Chicken Souvlaki. It reminded me very much of the food at Spilios, one of my favourites, which closed down. If this diner were frequented by cunning spies, it would be known as the Wily Diner. And if this diner were frequented by country star Mr. "Beer For My Horses" Nelson, it would be known as the Willie Diner. As for the price, it was under $10 for this, the dinner is a little more and you get a larger portion of souvlaki and some potatoes, but I haven't tried that so I can't comment on it. But now it's more like $12 for a much less impressive dish, sadly. If this diner were frequented by kids in plastic boots it would be known as the Wellie Diner. My last point is that two of the waitresses here are super cute, including the one that served me, who came in to work right when I was walking in, and even though she hadn't even taken off her coat yet, quickly rang me up so that I wouldn't have to wait. If this diner were frequented by South Park's own Ms. Testaberger, it would be known as the Wendy Diner. So definitely give this place a try. Keep the little local places in business. Unfortunately, this diner is frequented by escaped inmates from Alden, NY, so it is changing its name to the Wende Diner. read more

This diner is located at the traffic circle where Kensington and Wehre meet in the Cheek. Upon entering this restaurant, we were seated. There are alot of older regulars, the ambiance feels very low key Cheektowaga, and the food is decently priced. The food was cooked to our liking, and we didnt smell like food upon leaving the diner. The waitress had a lot of customers but did a good job tending to us. This is the kinda place I would take a closed loved one or friend to for some down to earth American diner food where one doesn't want to pay for the bells, whistles, and fancy ambiance. We were fortunate to visit this diner right before it was forced to close after Erie entered the orange zone. We cant wait to visit again after dining in is allowed again. read more

I've only been to Wehrle twice. The first time was a while back, I don't remember what I ordered, and I couldn't tell you how it tasted. But it must have been somewhat decent for me to randomly think of this place one morning, and think, "wow I haven't been there in a while, let's go!". I recently came here on a Sunday morning. Online I read they open at 8am, but when I was reading the signs coming in, and the front of their menu, it read 7am. Waiting in my car a few extra minutes I guess wasn't too bad. You could tell walking in they had their regular guys - who sit up at the counter and have coffee. We were told by Christina, who was our waitress, we could sit wherever, and we picked a booth along the windows. Even though it was seven in the morning, I ended up ordering the open chicken souvlaki which ended up being a very good size. The chicken was tender, light on the feta cheese, ended up asking for an extra side. You only receive two small pieces of pita bread, it's more like half of a full pita and then cut in half again. I also ordered another side of pita bread as well. I opted for tzatziki sauce instead of their dill sauce, which is apparently different from one another. The tzatziki was flavorless, I ended up adding salt and pepper to it. It tasted like flavorless thick Greek yogurt with chopped up cucumbers, and it looked bland too. Maybe I'll try the dill sauce next time? I also asked for a side of Gyro, which was good. I ate mine with mustard. I believe I received either three or four pieces. My first complaint is the Greek dressing situation. It's shared. They put it in those ugly, greasy, dressing bottles, where the cap doesn't fit all the way on, and your left there wondering how you're supposed to mix the dressing together when all the seasoning is on the bottom, and the oil is floating on top. Was that considered a run on sentence? Is it too hard to give someone a side of it, like maybe in a plastic cup? I ended up holding the cap tight and shaking lightly, hoping it mixed thoroughly. It's honestly a pet peeve of mine, that I won't shake. My last thought is how long does it sit in that bottle before they clean it out, wash the bottle, then put fresh in? OK rant about ugly dressing bottles, over. Our waitress was attentive, she wasn't busy, had a few tables as well as ours. I wasn't made to feel like family, as I expected to feel from a somewhat small diner. I guess there was a customer service interaction lacking. I'm very needy as some would put it, I ask too many questions, I seem to always need something, if I say thank you, I don't expect an "your welcome" back everytime, but at least once would have been nice. I like to feel acknowledged, and I kind of felt that, that was lacking. I don't know if they expected to be massively busy that Sunday, but when I was cashing out, there were about four waitresses who had just got on the clock when two were already on. Not sure why this little diner on the Harlem traffic circle between the 3 pharmacies doesn't get more business - especially when Lake Effect Diner's customer service is slowing down. Large parking lot right across from Walgreen's. Free wi-fi. This is truly a retro diner - booths and counters. The menu is straight forward, cost effective, and the service is friendly. This is a much more comfortable diner than Athens which is further south on Harlem. I had a beef liver dinner one night - beautifully pan seared tender. Most recently, I got a burger platter that had an egg on it. I had a choice of potatoes - fries, greek, homefries or mash. The greek potatoes was a give-away that this place must be another Greek-owned-originated diner. To my delight, a giant half pound burger showed up. They ask you how you want it done, and mine was done a perfect medium. We've also been here for breakfast where they have inexpensive breakfast specials before 10am. My only criticism is that the diner menu isn't particularly different than any other diner in town. At least Lake Effect has some interesting innovations on their menu but you pay for it in time and money. For a fast friendly local meal, definitely check out Wehrle. read more

We were seated right away, but we waited forever for our food. The place was busy, but not Sunday Brunch busy. The service was terrible. Our waitress didn't come over to refill our coffee before the food came, and didn't even advise us our food would be over soon. By the time our food was brought over it was ice cold. A very rude waitress spoiled our breakfast with our granddaughter. They were unusually busy, but there is no excuse for being rude/sarcastic to a customer. First of all, my husband wears hearing aids, so he didn't hear her say she'd get him decaf so he asked again, nicely. She got right in his face and said sarcastically, "Did ya hear me say I was getting it?" We were all stunned. So when she walked by again I made a remark like, "how rude" or something and she turned around and I thought she was going to remark back, but she thought better of it. We go out to eat all the time and we've never been treated so badly. Taking Wehrle off our list. If Athens would open again for breakfast, they wouldn't have half the customers. I've been here a number of times and it's normally better than it was today. Odered a beef souvlaki breakfast. Beef was ok, a couple peices were tough/too chewy. Beef needed more seasoning or marinating for sure! Would not order it again. Server was pleasant enough but I felt rushed. It was not busy at all. I sat and was promptly given a menu and asked for my beverage order. Received my coffee very fast and was asked to place my order in what seemed like 30 seconds. I prefer not to be rushed.I hadn't even opened the menu. Still left a generous tip. That's just me. Bathroom was clean but large roll toilet paper was sitting on top of dispenser (hopefully no on dropped on floor). No paper towels in the dispenser. This isn't somewhere we go very often, and tonight I was reminded of why. My son had an appointment up the road, so it was convenient. Too bad it was only convenient. There were only about 3 other tables of diners when the three of us entered, so the hostess told us to sit anywhere. Once we were seated, the server took our drink order pretty quickly, but that was the end of the positives. When she came back to take our order (close to 10 minutes after we were ready) she sat down next to my son. She doesn't know us. She smelled like smoke. My son was extremely uncomfortable, both because she was sitting close to him and because he has asthma and the smoke was starting to set it off. Then we waited. The couple of times we've been here before it didn't take more than 10-15 minutes for our order to come, and since it wasn't as busy as those other times both boys were annoyed with the 35-40 minute wait time. (2 omelettes and 1 eggs Benedict) The home fries tasted off. The hollandaise was obviously a powdered mix snd tasted more like powdered potatoes than hollandaise. The chicken in the Mediterranean omelette had some bits that weren't cooked through. All three meals were below temperature. As we were finishing up, our server sat at another table and began loudly discussing how "one of my doctors suggested I go to a support group." She sat there for several minutes discussing her objections before getting up and loudly asking if anyone needed anything. (She was the only server, and there were muttered replies from nearly every table -- now a total of 5 -- that they were all set.) There will not be another visit to this restaurant in the near future. In fact, while my sons are too polite to complain to waitstaff, I'm sure they'll remind me about this experience if I forget and suggest we eat here again. read more

When I read reviews on here, sometimes I wonder if the previous diners ate at the same place I did... Sure, the Wehrle Diner isn't Rue Franklin or Russel's, but it is a great family/neighborhood restaurant with affordable prices and tasty food. I've eaten there three or four times within the past few months and service has always been prompt and attentive (although sometimes too attentive) I enjoy that you can order breakfast any time of day and that they have some unique twists on common breakfast items like stuffed french toast and Agean omelets. All the food was tasty and fresh. The greek dishes always had great seasoning and even came with dill sauce on the side. Yum. I do wish the greek potatoes had more flavor, though. Overall, I enjoy trips to the Wehrle diner and would recommend it if you are in the Harlem/Kensington area. read more

I've lived down the street from Wehrle for almost 3 years and I finally decided to try it for breakfast. Wehrle is similar to many of the other family restaurants around town serving this similar greek american cuisine in a diner style atmosphere. In the mood for a hearty meal to start my day, I opted for a spinach and feta cheese 3-egg omelet with a side of home fries and toast. Maybe there was a new cook that day because there was some commotion regarding the potatoes. My eggs were perfect, but the potatoes were hard. I didn't say anything until I paid the bill ~$8. The cashier acknowledged there was an issue with the potatoes and that the owner was dealing with the problem. Otherwise, it's a great place for breakfast. read more

Wehrle Restaurant made a fool of me...i gave this diner proximate to the man's love shack a try for take out a couple of weeks ago, as take out options in this locale are scarce and horrible. the first time our food was mediocre and mushy from sitting in styrofoam boxes under a heat lamp, but we found the chicken in both our souvlaki wrap and chicken cesar wrap to be surprisingly tasty, having clearly been marinated in a great mix. we were also very pleased with the order of baklava we ordered -- it was moist, delicious, and was very easy to consume (which for baklava, is an important criterion). we gave them a try again on a very and rainy sunday for lunch, again opting to take out so we could cocoon. the man enjoyed his open chicken souvlaki breakfast, but my chicken finger wrap was absolutely inedible -- the fingers were very tendony, were in huge chunks, and were extremely greasy. the lettuce on this monstrosity was so limp and red with sauce it actually turned my stomach. add to that the wrap was so soggy it could barely be picked up to consume. the french fries were adequate frozen fare, but not the point of my meal. the baklava, again, was delish. oh, and when i opened my box of food, a fruit fly flew out. rather gross start to a gross meal. i feel like a dunce for wasting my money on such slop, but live and learn... read more

What good is a GIANT fish fry, if that fish fry doesn't really taste all that good? It can be hanging off the plate and resting on a mountain of french fries, but if you leave half (or more) of it sadly on the plate, it certainly isn't worth it. My son and I ate here this past Friday night. I had the aforementioned fish and he (the guy who won't eat anything that swims) had a Greek pasta dish. Neither was good... and neither was finished. I ordered my fish "on the well done side" because I like it a bit dry and very flaky. It was huge, but about half of its "hugeness" was beer batter that honestly wasn't all that great. The fish was sub-par. Overly wet and not all that fresh tasting. It had a funky fishy smell. The cole slaw was pretty good.... but the french fries (most likely the frozen kind) had that same funky fishy smell. EWWWW! My son's Greek pasta had strips of marinated chicken, artichokes, red peppers, and feta cheese over ziti. He said the pasta was too mushy and everything else was WAY TOO salty. And, the veggies tasted like they had just been liberated from a can. Our waitress was very friendly and efficient, but since the food was pretty darn awful, we won't be back. read more

I took 3 out of the 4 kidlets for breakfast this morning. The original choice was Denny's, but then I remembered the Wehrle is like 45 seconds away and the food would no doubt be better. The service was friendly and fast & my coffee was re-filled 3 times without having to ask. Sean went out on a limb and ordered eggs benedict which he loved! I got eggs benedict florentine. Both dishes came with a monsterous portion of home fries which were perfectly crispy, a tad greasy and seasoned well. The hollendaise was generously poured over the eggs and was creamy and lemony. Colin ordered the Canadian bacon ommlette which also was topped with hollendaise and the same pile of potatoes. The eggs actually had flavor which was a nice change from Denny's bland ass eggs. Grace ordered pancakes with strawberries. Problem. The strawberries were formerly frozen poly bag variety, and were like wet rubber nuggets with a nasty tangy taste. Her side of 3 sausages were big and juicy - she only enjoyed 2 of them due to a big brother interception. We'll definitely go back. Theres alot of interesting items on the week end menu with reasonable prices. Hooray for the little guy. Try out The Wehrle, and spend the 8 bucks on a breakfast dish there rather than Denny's. You get exactly what you would expect by the looks of this place: a reasonably priced plate of food that isn't the best thing you ever ate with a greasy spoon, but is certainly not offensive to your taste buds. You start with greek dressing on the table and they serve souvlaki in every way imaginable - souvlaki sandwich, open souvlaki, souvlaki wrap, souvlaki dinner, souvlaki omelette, souvlaki milkshake... you get the point. The rest of the menu is typical American diner food - melts, sandwiches, "home cooked" dinners, and breakfast served at all sorts of weird hours. We like to stop in when we just don't feel like cooking! Not a destination place by any means, but certainly good enough for anyone in the neighborhood to grab a quick bite. My sister used to love their chicken finger sub when she worked in the area. Service is fast and friendly and the portions are good. Busy on the weekends for breakfast but they turn tables fast so don't be scared off by a wait. Our last visit we each had a sandwich with fries and a drink... $16. So worth it! read more

Went to wehrle's today after we voted. It was during the day on a Tuesday so not crowded at all. My burger and fried were cooked perfectly: fries nice and crispy and burger medium like I asked. Service was friendly and quick and refills were not hard to come by. Overall a great diner experience. We didn't enjoy a single part of this dining experience- the service was slow and forgetful (she was pleasant but I'd rather have good service than a cheerful waitress), food was cooked poorly and when I told the waitress it wasn't prepared as ordered she just threw it out and said she would inform the cook, no offer to have it remade or taken off the bill though I only had one bite, we waited 40 minutes to get the beverages we ordered with our meal order, she never checked on us once we had our food, until she was ready to give us the bill though we continued to ask where our server was. Overall just awful. We ordered Fresh strawberries and cream but received thawed, syrupy strawberries and reddi whip. The 11 monmth old at the table got them. For the baby we ordered the one egg and one pancake kids meal with apple juice. The apple juice seemed to be iced tea judging by taste. My friend ordered a tuna melt with tomato and fries. The tomato had to come as a side since it was forgotten and the fries were old, dried out and seemed overdone. She also had a Monsoon salad and took it home to her husband because it tasted off to her. She ordered coffee, water and a chocolate milkshake. The milkshake took 40 minutes. I ordered breakfast souvlaki with beef. When asked how I would like it cooked I said medium-rare and eggs over medium. I also substituted fries for Greek potatos. The cuts of beef were cooked extremely well done, the one bite I had was tough and tasted burnt. Also, no seasoning as is traditional on souvlaki. Fries were old, dried out and seemed overdone. I also ordered water and a vanilla shake. I never received a refill on my water and the shake arrived 40 minutes after placing my order. We were shocked that our server didn't offer to remove the item from the bill or have it remade. Additionally, waited 10 minutes for server to return to collect the bill and she never came back. Manager at counter seemed confused as to why we were there. Now we know why since that is the single worst dining experience I've had since moving to Buffalo. Please never go there. read more

Second time at the Wherle Family Restaurant. The service is decent however the stuffed french toast breakfast is a disappointing experience. The fresh strawberries and whipped cream are nice but the french toast is an insult to your taste buds. Everyone should know that the cream cheese filling should have a sweet filling not just plain cream cheese inside and I should not taste the eggs wash for the batter. Not going back. read more

This restaurant is located on wehrle and Harlem it has been in this location for several years formerly four seasons restaurant the Now wehrle restaurant has good food at a reasonable price the restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly I had a ham and turkey club with bacon it comes with chips and if you want fries you have to get a side order you can not substitute the chips for fries which is kind of strange but the sandwich is fairly big I also ordered a strawberry cheesecake truffle which is strawberry ice cream covered in white chocolate drizzled with dark chocolate it is amazing it's $4 but about the size of half of a softball I all and all my experience here was pretty good and do expect to return in the future read more

My wife and I stop here every other Sunday and believe its the perfect spot for breakfast! Absolutely affordable! Rating five out of five stars, however it is not out of the ordinary. It is like your typical Greek Restaurant. This is a place you could go after a morning event, to grab breakfast, brunch or lunch. Or make it more of a traditional week to week type of spot.
