This is my FAVORITE grocery store in the area! I've been going for around 3 years now, and my opinion hasn't changed. What sets this place apart from others is definitely the prepared foods section. There are endless grab and go options and if you are someone that wants something to eat with minimal preparation, this is the place to be. They also have a good sized "health food" section, right next to the fresh produce area. Gluten free? There is a section for you with gluten free snacks, breads, and pizza! Vegan? There's a section for you with dairy free butter, mayo, desserts, snacks, and frozen meals! read more

A supermarket that will make Manhattanites jealous located in little old Fredericksburg -- unbelievable! I can finally buy all of the ingredients I need for my gourmet meals in one store, with nary a trip to New York like I usually have to. How good is the selection? Here are some examples: - salmon caviar - several types of foie gras - ricotta salata - beautiful fresh buffalo mozzarella - properly chilled Dom Perignon - an extensive selection of sake - several types of udon noodles - the full line of ITO EN teas - real miso - San Marzano tomatoes - Mother-in-Law's tongue pasta and so on, and so on... Keep in mind that this is a rural supermarket in fly-over country!!! This is impressive folks! At the moment there are only a couple of drawbacks. Because of the selection and the novelty of the store (it opened last week), it is still regularly packed, though I expect the crowds to thin in time. Also, there were 2 discrepancies on my receipt today with me being overcharged by $5 on my Maredsous ale and being double charged on my De Cecco pasta, but this was quickly resolved. Because they are so new, I expect simple mistakes like this in the interim. And I was a bit surprised that the in-house wine expert never heard of Soave -- really? Wegmans is a Rochester-originating grocery store chain, offering the hot food bar, the bakery, fresh seafood, the pharmacy, and the plethora of all-natural/organic/farm-fresh produce. I usually stop by this location to pick up some desserts before going to family gatherings, as their fruit tart from the bakery is pretty tasty (forego the mini ones and get the regular-sized!) - the tart has a great crust, filled with a luscious custard, and topped with fresh fruit with a lovely glaze. My mom and aunt were raving on and on about this supermarket all the while I'm thinking "Dudes, it's a grocery store." Well, after eating some crow, I became a convert and longed for Wegmans to make its way south. Unfortunately, we still don't live near one but do get to pass a few on our trips to and from DC. Their pizza is to die for. Super thin and crispy. The cheese is perfect and not spongy-fake yuckiness. The soups are delicious. If you're dining in, you can get fountain drinks...COKE PRODUCTS (super-plus)!!! The bakery is terrific. They have a family night every Friday with a free movie. The dining area is always clean and well-stocked...as are the restrooms. I've ordered coffee a few times and it's pretty good. We don't get to shop much since Weggy's is usually a pit-stop for us on our roadtrips, we only have time to eat. But, in the past, L-O-V-E-D shopping there for the vast selections of products. Dear Wegmans: Please come to Raleigh/Durham and put some of these lackluster, overpriced, poor quality grocery store chains out of business. I'm still willing to drive 3 1/2 hours, one way, uphill both ways through 3 feet of snow just to experience your store, and spend a small fortune to stock up on items that cannot be had anywhere else, especially for the price you offer them at. Do I need to beg, plead and grovel? If I do, will you be in the Raleigh/Durham area soon? -G Some people suggest Wegmans is pricey. I beg to differ. They are competitive, and usually cheaper than their competitors for everyday items like canned soups, veggies, microbrews and wine as well as many other products. The same people say Wegmans is just another grocery store, but I say "it's an experience." The cafe' is pretty good for eating in, and parking the cart has never been an issue here, even loaded up with the day's shopping goods and being left by itself for an hour or so while I take time out to grab a bite, the cart is left alone. What do I like to eat at the cafe'? The sushi and the soup! The sushi is a bit pricey but otherwise I have no complaints, it's fresh and very tasty. The soup is also very good and there's typically a good variety out on the steam table to choose from. So in summary, park the (full) cart, grab lunch, pay for it, head upstairs to the lounge and dining area, sit down and eat (in peace), finish up, find your cart (unscathed) and resume shopping. Did I mention Friday night is family night? Bring the kids and watch a movie upstairs in the lounge area! Wow! This was my first time in one, and I could have used a map, tour guide, and possibly a Rescue Dog to get me from one end to the other!!! It is definitely an upscale store, with all kinds of different products you won't find in a regular grocery: cool cheeses, produce, kitchen accessories, etc. You have to carve out at least an hour just to check out everything. Grab a coffee or kombucha and leisurely stroll the aisles. It is divided up a bit into departments with aisles, instead of regular aisles. They run in both directions with tjings like chips at the far end along with paper plates, etc. Well lit and well labeled, the store has wide aisles and plenty of cashier's. Pricing was not as expensive as I expected in general. A must to check out if you have never been! read more

I love Wegman's...best supermarket on the East coast (don't' know if they are out west) so when I can go to one..I do. Great produce, dairy, sushi and meat and I love how much more you can get-prepared food, sandwiches, great alcohol selection. This particular Wegman's was great for us when we were down visiting the University of Mary Washington for a field hockey clinic. Such a great selection of food and drinks and basically everything we needed to get us through four days. What was even better for us is that we could walk to this place from where we were staying. Yeah, I know...it's a supermarket, but in all of my travels with my daughter, I've come upon some really crappy ones-especially in touristy areas. Wegmans is arguably considered one of the BEST if not the best grocery store chains in the United States. Families stop talking to each, friendships get torn apart and Facebook accounts get deleted over which grocery store is better. The debate is intense! Or at least that's what people tell me. My first visit is summed up in one word: unimpressed... I was so excited to come here based on several articles stating it was God Parent of whole foods and a grocery store mecca/heaven by some friends. Sadly... I don't see why some people praise this place so much. I can only judge though on their prepared foods section and cafeteria area. They have pizza, a hot bar, salad bar, a themed hot bar, sushi, sandwiches, and a chef's table where they can actually cook your food for you! It all sounds great but the selection was very minimal and didn't wow me. I was just expecting something more... If i had to compare it to a whole foods, Whole Foods is 10 times better and "cheaper" if that's possible. haha. It may have been because I came here around 8.30 on a Saturday night... Wegmans is more than a store, it's an experience. I love this store! Besides the shopping, one of the things about this store that I really like is the Fresh food, Asian food and Sushi bar. They offer a wide variety of... everything. After a year of shopping at Wegmans I can say very little bad about this store. The one thing that I might suggest is that the store needs more sales on their meat and seafood. Other than that, the prices and quality is great. And so is their staff! We had wine, lobster rolls, and fish tacos at the cafe in Wegmans! Outstanding food. Outstanding service. Amazing prices!! A fun experience. All the food prepared in front of us looked amazing. Everyone around us was commenting on their meals. The burgers, salmon, oysters and shrimp all looked absolutely delicious. We drive from Virginia Beach to pick up staples and will spend 2-3 hours in Wegmans. It is an event. In the wine section alone we stock up on a months worth of outstanding vintages. read more

A number of years ago, I lived in Rochester, NY, the birthplace of Wegmans. It became a go to place for a quick, economical lunch that was close to work. A few years later, I lived in Erie, PA, where they opened at that time the largest Wegman's in the country. It was at this point it became a magical place to shop for groceries, kitchen items and prepared foods. Needless to say, when their name was mentioned as a possible buyer for Ukrops, I was ready to dance in the streets, a bit prematurely. So it was with great pleasure I visited this location on a recent trip to Fredericksburg! As you enter, the right hand side of the store is dedicated to the bakery, prepared foods and even a little restaurant. You could easily get caught short of money by simply visiting this area, so come loaded! The rest of the store is filled with the regulars, plus some hard to find items that make a short grocery trip into an afternoon experience. Additionally, they have a very good nutritional area and also carry a better than average number of organic products. All at a reasonable price! I thought I had read last year that they were going to built a store in the West End, but in looking at their home page, it appears that Charlottesville is on the list, but not us. What a shame! As such, we will need to make a stop at this location anytime we are returning from the northern part of the State. read more

I heard from a coworker that Wegmans had delicious looking strawberries for Valentines Day, so I made it a point to come this weekend with my family. I had never been to Wegmans before but heard it was an experience. Upon arriving and selecting our strawberries, we decided to walk the entire store - appreciating the warm lighting and the huge selection of cheese. We decided to get a Valentine's Day dinner, complete with some Sake we were surprised they had. As we were being rung up, the cashier asked me for my ID, I'm 29, my boyfriends ID (he's also 29) and then asked my 16 year old sister for hers. Obviously she was just tagging along because she wanted to check Wegmans out too... she was confused, we were all confused. She asked me if we were family then she then told me she had to check with her manager to make sure she wouldn't get in trouble for selling us alcohol. The manager then came, gave us a look and said it was their policy. I argued that it didn't make any sense... all she could say was "sorry that's our policy". I really do wonder if this was selective as their sign said it was up to "the manager's discretion." The whole situation made me so incredibly uncomfortable as if I was being accused of buying alcohol for my little sister and in the end they refused to sell me the little bottle of Sake i picked out. I just wanted to write this review as a warning anyone else who might walk into Wegmans with a teen. As for me, I will never shop at Wegmans again because it will just remind of this bad experience. read more

Every time I am in the Fredericksburg area, I make sure to stop and stock up on all my Wegman's favorites (including bagels, pasta sauce and wine). Probably my Favorite store in Fredericksburg!! Amazing grocery store. I can spend 2 hours here, it's like Disneyland! Lol. First- Parking is huge! You can always find a good spot. Second, it's gorgeous! *everything is fresh *great selection of vegetables on the salad bar. Every time I come here is a must to eat from the salad bar lol. *I love their Indian section for food, it's like paradise to me. *they have 6 dollars prepared meals , they are great to take to work. *sushi -wow , delicious!! It's fresh , they have 2 chefs preparing sushi inside the store. You can actually ask them to make your favorite sushi or the one you want to eat. *olives section - paradise !! A little bit expensive but it's amazing the great selection they have. *organic section- you would love their 5 halls of organic food. *international section- it's not bad, they can do better. *wine section is Great! They're a little pricier than any of the other grocery stores, but the quality of their stock is really good. We left New York to visit Virginia and forgot to get cash before starting our trip. ATMs, unfortunately, have become extremely expensive to use outside of one's own bank. When we complained, several people told us to try Wegmans. However, their ATM was also pricey. We complained about this to our cashier when we purchased a small item. He suggested we buy another item and he could then give us a limited amount of cash on our debit card free-of-charge. All-in all, we found Wegmans to be extremely clean, the store well-stocked, the produce incredibly fresh, the food very appetizing, the prices fair, but best of all everyone we asked for help went above and beyond. My wife and I stopped at the Wegmans in Fredericksburg to get a vegetarian meal. We stopped at the Vegetarian Hot Bar and we observed that they had Seasoned Green Beans, Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Roasted Vegetable Medley and Roasted and Seasoned Root Vegetables. We got a variety of all of these items. The items were fresh, well seasoned and tasty. Some of the Roasted Green Beans were not thoroughly cooked all the way through but overall, everything was good. The cost was a bit pricey at $9.89 per pound but I guess you will pay for good food. Overall, I would recommend this Hot Bar for all vegetarians. read more

So, I'm not from here... My husband is currently here for training in Quantico & one of my best friends lives in Fredericksburg! She took me here because I was wanting some Chobani flip cup yogurt (I know, so specific) We walked in & this is basically like a Whole Foods we have on the west coast! I can spend hours in this Wegmans place, good gosh. You can find everything & anything in this place & it's HUGE! My girlfriend and I ate here and split a sub yesterday and both of our stomachs got sick shorty after finishing eating. We shared one sub and it was the only thing in common we both ate. One of my favorite things about shopping at Wegmans is lunch at the seafood bar. The last time I was there I learned they were changing their menu, so stopped for lunch today while shopping. What a disappointment!!!! They still had my favorite crab cakes, but this time it was baked rather than fried. The crab cake was pretty dry and less flavorful than the fried one. Also low marks for presentation. The crabcake used to come with a Caesar salad, all on the same plate and aside from tasting great,also looked great. This time the salad came in a separate bowl which left the poor over baked crabcake all by itself on a plate. I'll still love grocery shopping at Wegmans, but will sadly bypass the seafood bar. The steaks at Wegmans are great. We also like their King Crab legs. They have a great selection of wine and cheese,but be careful with anything else, a lot of their products contain Dupont chemicals, I bought some macaroni salad from the deli , brought it home and ate it.The noodles tasted like cardboard and the cheese tasted like plastic ,I read the ingredients , there where 10 chemicals from Dupont that I could not pronounce along with added sugar, who puts sugar in macaroni salad.? Also the Pirogi contains a lot of Dupont chemicals that will ruin your liver in time, make sure you read the ingredients every time. Also there is no vanilla in the Vanilla ice cream . read more

A carnival of food. I follow strict guidelines while shopping with the wife at Wegmans: 1. Push cart. 2. Do not let go of said cart and wander off. 3. Do not wander off with cart and get lost in beer/wine dept and not answer cell phone when wife calls. Ok, I get distracted. I love: The bakery, the prepared foods, the meat, the fish, the cheese, the ...the ....oh hell, put it all in the damn cart (I'm not allowed to let go of it). Wegmans employees are top notch. The cashier always asks if you found every thing you were looking for. In an attempt to be a smart ass, I said " No, we couldnt find the shredded cabbage". A runner took off like an olympic sprinter and was on a mission. We finished checking out, left Wegmans and headed out to the parking lot with me feeling pretty smug that company boy was still searching the store (ha ha). While I was loading the trunk of the car, super boy ran up (out of breath) with a bag of shredded cabbage "huff, puff, ...here you go sir....no charge...". "Uh..thanks buddy" (picture me suddenly growing donkey ears and a tail). The ONLY thing I can bust on is my pet peeve about shopping carts with flat spotted wheels. I usually test drive my cart before committing to pushing the rolling Morse Code machine around any damn store. Wegmans lobby is ceramic tiled and impossible to determine if the defective carts are flat spotted (until you have joined the pack of shoppers and entered the store where the floor is smooth....too late to go back). Initially, I must say that I had my doubts about Wegmans. I had never shopped there before and always assumed that it was expensive. Boy was I WRONG! The prices are quite competitve....I couldn't even believe my eyes when I discovered that for many of their meats and perishables....their prices were cheaper than Walmart! Where have I been? It is about time a store like Wegmans came to Fredericksburg. I could spend all day, everyday wandering around this magnificent food store. Not only is the selection of food AMAZING, but the prices are also phenomenal! On average, I save at least $20 on my normal weekly grocery purchase thanks to Wegmans. My favorite purchases thus far have been: baby eggplants, Kefir Yogurt Milk (raspberry flavored), tofu curry salad, and barbecue rubbed salmon. Also, the beer and wine selection is wonderful! Hi. My name is Christi. I am a Wegmans addict. Wegmans is the best grocery store ever. The store itself has everything you could possibly need. I hit Wegmans on my way out of town and came home with LOTS of goodies... Two new Le Crueset French ovens, fresh organic herbs for my herb garden and misc kitchen goodies. The store is really clean, well lit and nicely laid out. You can easily navigate the aisles and find everything you need. The prices on grocery items are very competitive. Their sales are pretty awesome too. Their wine and beer area is well stocked with lots of choices. Their craft beer selection is quite impressive. The prepared foods area is great They have a full service bakery, sushi bar, seafood bar, coffee counter and deli. They also have a hot and cold food bar filled with foods that you can purchase by weight. The customer service has always been outstanding. Every employee I've encountered has been friendly and helpful. I can't recommend Wegmans enough... I can only hope they make their way down the east coast to Charlotte soon! read more

Really cool and well organized supermarket...I love how neat and diverse this supermarket is... They have anything you can think of globally...there products are really fresh and well package...I love food shopping here...it doesn't take forever to look for certain items...many helpfully workers...so many organic foods which is always a plus! This supermarket has two floors...the upstairs is like a mini restaurant for shoppers..you get the pick the food you want to eat and weight it by lb..then go upstairs to eat...my favorite area is the candy ail...every time I walk pass there I feel like I'm in candy wonderland! Whenever I review an establishment, I try to be objective as possible. I tried to look at every angle that Wegman's could be wrong in, but I seriously cannot find any. Wegman's is perfection when it comes to grocery stores at all angles. They turn your regular stop at a grocery store into an experience every time you go in. The business their management has run the Wegman's brand is top-notch. You have your groceries which is expected, but they take the extra step with excellent service, and a mini-bazaar inside the store. What I mean is they have a whole row of sushi, meats, a sub shop, espresso cafe, bakery, and an amazing wine selection. In each one of those different departments, they have specialists that can cater to your needs no matter how expansive they are. One of the most memorable to me was the wine department. They have one guy who will offer samples of different kinds of fine wines and help you find the right selection depending on the type of wine and function you need. They even have locally-made wines from Fredericksburg wineries that you may not ever find anywhere else. If you're also just stopping by through I-95 or staying at a nearby hotel and you need food and whatever else, it's the perfect location. You definitely should stop by before you head up to DC where traffic will be much worse and food won't be as accessible, or if you're heading south towards Richmond where there may not be grocery stores or good quality food for miles. If you ever get a chance and you're in the Fredericksburg area, stop by and you won't be disappointed. read more
