My family and I came from NJ to visit our friends who live in VA. Plenty of parking upon arrival. The little shop was very cute and they sold many goodies. I love how you can get the echo friendly glass gallons that they sell lemonade and milk in. We bought the lemonade. The ice cream was also AMAZING!! It was so creamy and rich. Prices are so reasonable. You pay everything up at the counter before going into the animal farm area. They also have feed to give to the goats and llamas by the stalls. They have a great area with a sprinkler to cool off and many places to even sit and have have a picnic. Loved this place and we had a great time with our dogs as well read more

I am always looking for a change o' scenery for playtime during COVID, and I saw an article on Macaroni kids which led me to Braehead Farms. The appeal was that in the dead of "winter" (I use quotes cause where I'm from it snows, like, a lot) the play area is still open. For $5/person (2 and under free), you can play til your hearts content from 9am-5pm. Granted, if this were a different season I probably would not give such a good review, but since options are limited, I'd recommend visiting. The play area has a large corn bin with some baby swings and some kitchen toys. There are lots of ride on toys and a big slab of cement in which to use them. There is a beanbag toss, a large saucer swing, volleyball, two big piles of sand with trucks, in addition to a couple different play slides. There is a hay barn that has a few swings too. Animal-wise there are the usual suspects: cows, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits, and free-roaming chickens. You can buy feed and these are not like GCF goats-they be hungry! The market is nice and I highly endorse the peach habanero salsa. I also purchased smoky chipotle mustard but have yet to try it. They have a lot of interesting flavors of items at reasonable prices. I was told in the summer they do PYO which is popular. When we visited, there were only two other families that came during our 3.5 hour stay, so this is a great social distancing activity! read more

A great place to come to pick your own fruits, veggies, and flowers. They have a huge variety of crops that they grow which is pretty cool! A lot of pick your own places you can only pick flower or pumpkins etc. but at Braehead the list seems endless! My favorite part is their store. They have lots of can jams, salsas, and pickled items. They have fresh produce if you don't have time to go out and pick your own. They have pies and also ice cream. They do not use pesticides which is amazing that there are no toxics on the produce but this also means if you are scared of bugs you have been warned. There's lots of bees, beetles, and even hornets around. Downtown Fredericksburg is close by so next time you are spending the day there stop by Braehead also! read more

Today was my first time here and it was definitely a wonderful experience. There as ample amount of parking once you arrive and plenty to do with the family and kids. It did cost $10 to enter which includes the corn maze (a little pricey in my opinion) as you get to walk through the corn maze, take a hayride, and the kids, if you have them, have a lot of toys and space to play in. one of the best parts that I loved were the animals. It cost $0.25 to obtain feed to feed the alpacas and goats and they are super friendly. I mean, who wouldn't be with food presented in front of them? The food selection there is also awesome. Unfortunately, I do not have pictures of the food as I devoured it all lol, but the menu has a nice selection of food options and has a kids' menu as well. The only reason why I could not award this awesome place five stars is the cost of entering the festival which was $10 and included activities such as a hayride and corn maze. Personally, I have been to pumpkin patches that have offered more amenities for a lesser fee. Overall, this place is beautiful and fun. Check out the pictures to see for yourself! read more

I found this farm while we were driving from Pittsburgh to Obx. All I can say is I wished we lived closer. Our son had the best time at this farm and he only got to do a few things due to rain. I love that we could pick our own vegetables and fruits. I also loved how much stuff was available for Children. We were all covered in mud when we we left and we had to carry our child out while he was kicking and screaming because he was having such a great time. read more

Cute little farm , brought my daughter to pick some blackberries and to see and pick some sunflowers. It was so nice and fun. We enjoyed walking through and seeing the different vegetables and fruits! We picked some carrots, beets and peppers. After walking around for about an hour, we made our way back to the little market they have, picked up some fresh eggs and butter, and had some of the amazing ice cream. We were here for strawberry picking on Sunday May 17 first thing in the morning (9AM when they opened). There were only a few people in the strawberry fields (it was busy by 11:30AM) and there was no trouble socially distancing while picking strawberries. There's no admission fee to pick, and strawberries are $3.29 a pound. You can bring your own container if you don't want to buy one of theirs. We finished strawberry picking by 10AM, and then paid $5 (2 and under free) to visit the farm animals. It's a huge space with absolutely no issue socially distancing. My kids loved following the chickens, and seeing the gigantic pig. There's also a pig, llama, bunnies, and other typical farm animals. The $5 also gains you admission to the huge playground too, and if it weren't for Covid-19, I would've loved to have my kids play. There were so many nice options. I was honestly kind of surprised how many parents let their kids play on the playground though. Maybe they're from more rural parts of Virginia, but I'm from northern VA and I'm still wiping my groceries down after a trip to the store. read more

Great pies and sweet bread, first of all. I had the best custard pie I've had in a decade. The blueberry bread is soft and moist and chock full of berries. It's not overly sweet either. Then of course there's the fruit, which is similarly fresh and delicious. I was in a hurry so I got the pre picked strawberries. They're plump, juicy, and sweet. And it's a great feeling to know where they came from. I look forward to returning and experiencing the rest of the farm. read more

My family and I spent a beautiful afternoon at this farm. We picked strawberries and bought farm fresh goodies from their on-site store. We got asparagus, a peach pie and peach hot sauce. The employees were very friendly and gracious, their prices were more than fair and best of all, their availability was wide open and they didn't require reservations to visit their farm due to CV19. We stopped in last weekend to do some fruit picking. We decided on picking raspberries! They also have picking of blackberries and other various fruits. The property is well labeled so it's easy to find the fruit of your choice. They also had Mixed flowers you can cut yourself for 50cents a stem and they also had sunflowers you can pick. We came for the Santa pictures but were pleasantly surprised by everything else! The staff was extremely courteous and friendly, and the Santa setup was great. A real-bearded, very kind and authentic Santa was set amongst a beautiful backdrop. Further, their playground and animals are great, and provided a welcome way to pass the time while we waited for our number to be called for Santa pictures. We now have a season pass, and only $20 a person (2 and under are free!)! Always a great variety of produce and fresh baked sweets! Our son LOVES running around chasing the chickens that are roaming free. We loved seeing the bunnies and the two sweet ponies loved being pet. They have an amazing play area with so much to do. Such a cute little farm! I brought my 2 year old here on a Wednesday afternoon and she was in heaven. Multiple playgrounds, sandpits, toys, balls, tons of room to run safely. There are a few spot in the shade to enjoy lunch or ice cream (you can even bring your own lunch or enjoy one from their very affordable kitchen). Not many, but just enough barn yard animals for my toddler and lots of chickens running around freely. They also have a strawberry field that you may use to pick your own berries. Great place for Fall, Spring, and early Summer before it gets too hot. Such a darling place, we will be back! read more

This is a great family farm. If you are looking for a more inexpensive place from Great Country Farms then this is it. Both farms have produce but this one feels much more like a family run operation which I prefer. The other farm exploits your wallet, this one does not. We bought a lot of jellies, pies, squashes, gords, pumpkins and a 92 lb pumpkin with all of our entrance fees and was still less than $150. That feels like a Deal to me. read more

The best hidden gem! Stumbled across this place while looking for a "u pick" farm with a "petting zoo" & so so so happy we found this place! There are a ton of berries & veggies to pick (carrots, peppers, watermelon, melons, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries & more) entry is free for picking & you pay by the pound. They also have flowers you can pick they're very pretty & smell so good! They have a kids area out back where you can pet horses, sheep, alpaca, pigs & free running chickens. Lots of great photo ops around the farm. They people are super friendly & nice. The farm is extremely well kept as well. Inside the cafe they sell "pre picked" produce, fresh pies & meats & offer lunch as well. They also sell water, sodas, & juices. Their "berry lemonade" is delicious & I recommend you try it if you go it does get pretty hot out side here & you get a little dirty but that's expected. read more

I wanted to give it so many stars as we were there for hours but they Nickle and dime you on everything. The prices for you pick are kinda high or equivalent to Whole Foods when there is no sale. The fruit and variety is awesome but they are not very flavorful. I would go back knowing this but probably not do so much u pick as I would just do it to have something to do. We just had my son's 4th bday party here on Saturday. Despite the 100 degree heat, we had an amazing time. We rented 1/2 the Red Shed which was well worth the money as it has AC! The party room was beautiful and clean. The staff checked in to make sure the AC was still keeping the shed cool. There was a sprinkler on in the field (probably for the friendly chickens) and the kids ran through to keep cool. I can't wait to go back and check out the marketplace more carefully. I love this place! It's a great place to take kids. They have fun activities going on throughout the entire year. I have been here in the Fall for pumpkins, in the Winter for their Christmas event and in the Spring for their Easter event. I plan to check out their strawberry picking event this Summer as well. The Christmas & Easter events were really nice & well organized. I really enjoyed the Christmas event--they have s'mores fire pits and other fun activities to do with your kids while you wait to see Santa. Your number is shown on a lighted screen, so there are no long lines to wait in. They charge an admission fee and you take your own photo. It's a really cute set-up. read more

Yippee.. what a great little find. A nice little switch of scenery. Truthfully I was getting a little tired of the Reston Zoo. Open fields, play ground equipment, piles of sand and farm animals. Its a tiny little tyrant's paradise. Lots of picnic tables and benches all around. You can even pick flowers, fruits and veggies to purchase. We never got around to checking out tge fields. Possibly later in the fall. For $5 a person and kids 2 and under for free. I think this is an awesome place to bring your kids for an afternoon of fun. Let them run and wear themselves out. CORONA REVIEW! This place was wonderful! It took me an hour to get here and it was well worth the drive. I wanted to go to a place where my kids could run around and not have to be very restricted. This farm surpassed my expectations. No one was on top of each other. My kids ran around freely and enjoyed the views. The fresh ice cream was great. There were also animals they could view. We had our daughter's 6 year birthday party here in April. It was wonderful, the shed was spacious which was nice for the kids to run around in and play while it rained for a bit. The farm yard was spacious with enough play sets, sand piles, toys, and animals to keep all the kids entertained, they didn't want to come in from the rain. We've been to Braehead Farm a few times with our 5 year old daughter and we always have fun! There's plenty of shaded areas which is awesome when you have a baby. We haven't had a chance to experience picking our own fruits/vegetables just yet but are looking forward to doing that. They have chickens, goats, pigs, llamas, cows, horses, sheep, and rabbits. I don't think I'm forgetting any animals. The people who work there are very friendly and put on fun events. We've met Elsa and also looked for Easter eggs. Went here to pick my own strawberries after searching the web for a farm that still had fruit. Braehead said they were still picking, so went to to check it out. It's located quite conveniently to anyone living in Fredericksburg, as its tucked away pretty close to the city center. The farm is great, and they had tons of ripe berries left to pick. We picked for about 45 minutes, and left with 24 pounds, a great haul! We'll certainly be checking them out again for blackberry and peach seasons. read more

After a long Sunday afternoon of walking around downtown Fredericksburg, my friends and I came here to pick our pumpkins for fall. It's one of my favorite things to do and I was more excited than everyone put together. Having never been here before I wasn't sure what to expect. Driving down the long gravel drive, kicking up dust reminded me of home. Maybe it was the way the sun was slanting through the trees or the chickens running everywhere, but something felt magical on this day. Upon entering the shop, we were given a small knife (kind of dull but still serrated) to go and pick our own pumpkins and sunflowers from the fields. With a wagon trundling along behind us, we headed off to the nearby fields and had a blast finding pumpkins. Not too far of a walk, we found nice big pumpkins that had pretty orange skins and sturdy stems. After a few minutes of cutting, we had a nice variety of sizes, shapes and colors. We passed on the beautiful sunflowers this time and made our way behind the barn. We stopped and said hello to a pig, and the guys held a few chickens. We checked out the cows in the back and kicked a soccer ball with one for awhile. The goats were pretty cool and you could spy what looked like the construction of a tree house too. Corn hole and picnic tables were available. A large pile of sand was unique for kids to play in with various toys scattered throughout. The store was sweet and simple. Holding few treasures like homemade ice cream, jams, jellies and baked goods. This was a no-frills kind of place compared to holiday trend following farms. There weren't any haunted houses, huge markets, hay rides (that I knew of) or corn mazes, and you know what? That' was okay. It was best just "being together" and being present in where we were. I'd definitely go back and bring my friends. read more

Oh my gosh, I can't get past how amazing this place is! We went today, a hot, hot, hot April day. First, the farm is just beautifully kept. Nothing is broken, run-down, messy. All the spring flowers are in bloom, the barn gift shop is immaculate, and the open space to run and play is so inviting. The hayloft swings and corn pit are also great. The women working there today could not have been friendlier. I was so sad I didn't bring a camera. It's really a beautiful place. The ONLY complaint I have is, there was a band of semi-feral children running amok and chasing the chickens. Relentlessly. My kids kept admonishing them (since we were told VERY clearly at the entrance not to chase, feed, or try to pick up the chickens). At one point, one of the parents was in ear-shot, and she laughed at my 3-year-old and said, "HA, it's FUN!" Jerks.
