Family has been coming here for years. If you have a sweet tooth you're in for a treat! Truffles and fudge are delicious as are the bulk candies and one off treats. For us the chocolate cake with buttercream frosting was the staple birthday experience and even now as a "grown up", nothing can take it's place. read more

I was hoping to pick up a couple of freshly made pies here to bring back to New York City and enjoy with my girlfriend. My first pick was pumpkin and my second pick was pecan (this is the south after all). Much to my dismay, the selection of pies was acutely limited and contained neither of these two choices. They did have strange pies like strawberry rhubarb though -- who knew? I think the place might be misnamed because they are definitely more of a candy kitchen than a cakery. The showroom was huge with an incredible selection of chocolates and candies, all of which provided an incredible aroma. Their clear specialty though was fudge! Even though I did not get what I want, the service was still very friendly and I was enticed to try some of the said fudge. The pumpkin pie fudge was absolutely delicious! I was then told that they are having a promotion where you can 5 pieces of fudge for the price of 4 (they are $3 each). So I gave in and bought two pumpkin, two peanut butter, and one chocolate coconut. Wow, this fudge is good and addictive and I was pleased with all of the selections. Be aware though, the sugar content is especially high -- saccharine to the nth degree. Overall, great place if you realize what they are good at. We kept hearing the radio station talk about this place, and have been wanting to go for a while. It is a hike from Fairfax/Woodbridge, but we went to the Illuminate light show near Kings Dominion, and were in the area. It was definitely an unassuming place from the outside. When you first walk in you see massive amounts of wrapped chocolates. I thought great, another candy store that sells you well known candy for quadruple the price of a gas station or grocery store. That was definitely not the case. All of the chocolates are handmade there and packaged. The staff were extremely helpful, and friendly. They took a lot of time showing us all of our options. They let us sample as much fudge, and candy in the case as we wanted. I love good fudge, but do not like probably 90% of the fudge I try. I threw away about $40 of candy and fudge from the different candy/fudge places at the beach not long ago. This fudge was amazing! It was super creamy, and just perfect. The candy behind the case was delicious. It was so good that when I tried a piece in the car, I went back in to get more. The chocolate and filling melts in your mouth. Most chocolate like this everywhere else is crumbly and chalky, with fillings that are hard and congealed. Their packaged candy was also amazing. We also tried the cupcakes, and they were simple but delicious. The peanut butter cups, vanilla buttercream truffles, toffee, and turtle fudge were my favorites. I can't recommend this place enough. I will definitely drive from NOVA, just to come back to this place. read more

We stopped by Mary's Cakery when we saw the sign on our way to Fredericksburg because my daughters name is Mary. What a fun shop!!! We picked up some stuffed chocolate eggs, cookies, cupcakes ( which they frost as you order) and jelly bellies. What a wonderfully kind staff. We tried the carrot cake fudge also which was delicious. Today was the first of many visits to Mary's. We were greeted by a lovely lady named Violet whom was extremely knowledgeable of all the yummy treats that are made right on site. Violet allowed us to sample some of the items to help us make our final decision of what we would purchase. Everything we tried was simply delicious so since we could not buy at least 2 of everything we will definitely be back. Violet also told us how they make special treats to coincide with the holidays. What can I say? It's such a cute little store. Cakes, cookies, candies, fudge, everything is good! The staff are very helpful and pass out samples. I was in recently around Easter. The variety of chocolate was amazing. White, milk, dark, peanut butter. All the shapes and designs you could imagine. I got some Easter Bunnies and a chocolate bar that looked like the Last Supper. We heard about this store from a friend who lives in the Prince George. We decided to take a drive on Veteran's day, we move soon and we are trying to see and enjoy as much of this area as possible. This place was worth the 1.5 hour drive. We were expecting something a little bit more "Corporate feeling" and expected it to be easily found right off of route 3, least to say we drove right past it the first pass. We quickly figured it out thanks to GPS and turned around. Once we saw it we thought that surely we had googled he wrong store. This candy shop is a great example of never judge a book by its cover. Outside, this shop looks a little bit dated and more like a gift store, but once you open the door you are overwhelmed by the smell of browned butter and warm Carmel. The fudges are homemade, and amazing! There is candy in every nook and corner, and I would guesstimate 70 percent of it is homemade. Mary was sweet, at least I am assuming the older lady was Mary. She happily gives you samples of her fudge to try and the prices are competitive. If you need something to do besides watching TV on your couch, I highly recommend a drive out to this sweet store. I'm in trouble! I was in King George looking for gifts for my child's teachers, and came across this wonderful place. The showroom is HUGE, and they have an incredible variety of candies to choose from. A young lady named Violet was an excellent guide, and she helped me select a small sample bag of mixed chocolates ($13.50). It was worth every penny! They also had beautiful cakes on display with signage indicating that they regularly do custom orders. The store is clean, organized, and has a mural on the outside wall that makes it impossible to miss. I'll certainly be back! read more

Mary's Bakery is the bomb. Com. I absolutely love her cakes and icing. I would always use her if I need a cake for an event or a person at work. Her cakes are so good , fluffy, and moist. The icing is also very good and compliments the cakes. All the Dahlgren coworkers love her cakes. The staff is friendly and really accommodating. I called the morning of that I needed a cake for an event and they had it ready for me by the time I needed it in time for the event. I also tried her chocolate covered pretzels with chocolate chips on them and they were good as well; as well as, the dark chocolate covered graham crackers. The graham crackers weren't as good but I ate them anyway. She has tons of chocolate options to choose from. She also has fudge. I tried the banana pudding fudge and the red velvet fudge. I have bowel disease and asked to use the bathroom. I tried to tell the owner that it was a medical emergency especially after he kept shoving food samples in my face. I did not make it home in a clean condition. I live two miles away. I found this to be humiliating​ and unchristian. The shop was full of flies. No thanks, I'll never return. Yes, I live in King George and have found this un-christianlike attitude prevalent in those who attend Tabernacle. The Americans for Disabilities Act requires that establishments open to the public must let people with Disabilities use the restroom whether it is set up for public use or not. I would have showed him my card, but I did not have it with me. read more

I was visiting from California for Thanksgiving and happened into Mary's Cakerey and Candy Kitchen. I decided to pick up some treats for the dozen and a half relatives who would be around the Thanksgiving table. The large showroom was filled with chocolates in different shapes, varieties, and flavors. Amazing! I got milk, dark, and white chocolate with and without nuts, some caramel, some peanut butter, some coconut, some mocha. I also tried the fudge and went nuts! Because it was near Thanksgiving, I taseted Pumpkin Pie fudge. Oh my gosh it was delicious. It was very sweet, but very, very good and the woman beind the counter said they use no artificial sugars. It was my niece's birthday so I was thrilled to be able to order her a custom cake and found out from questioning the staff that cakes are fifty percent of the shop's business. As a visitor, I told my family I would bring the pies and was not disappointed to be able to bring pumpkin, pecan, apple, and peach. Even though I wanted to buy the blueberry, chocolate, and other flavors I had to put a limit to it. We have famous See's candy in California and I have to say after tasting Mary's chocolates, I will not be satisified with Sees any more. Although Sees is good, compared to Mary's it is not fresh. The great thing is that pretty soon I can order Mary's on the internet. They said that ordering from their web site would be available sometime in the second week of December. I have lived in the Northern Virginia for years and my wife always drives by this store without a second thought. It is very easy to pass as the storefront is an old mechanics shop or something like that. It blew me away when I walked in. As Valentine's Day is quickly approaching, they have prepackaged hearts of all shapes and sizes. They also have empty boxes so you can custom make your own box of chocolates from their generous selection of milk, dark, white and sugar free chocolates. The fudge is incredible and they have quite the selection. I pre-ordered these huge chocolate covered strawberris for V Day and cannot wait to pick them up on Friday. Oh yeah. my wife LOVES the Snappers, which is their version of Turtles. Their staff is out of the way very very nice and will let you try a sample of just about anything. Needless to say, I will have to go back next time to try their incredible cakes (from what I heard)!!! read more
