So there is a regional battle as to which store is better: Wegmans or Whole Foods. Many of us who frequent Whole Foods were once loyal Wegmans shoppers. I give both 5 stars! Wegmans certainly deserves loyal shoppers. If you are new to the area (or still shopping at Safeway for some reason) and are deciding where to go consider these factors. For starters, by all means, go to both. Each is worth a visit. The biggest difference is that Wegmans carries the big name brands (think Pepsi, Coke, Hershey's, Kellogs, Nabisco, etc.) Wegmans has a larger wine selection than Whole Foods. Interestingly, Wegmans is really three stores fused together - craft / prepared foods; big box super market and a dining area above the wine store. Wegmans has a nice small seafood bar. The parking lot at Wegmans is packed at peak times. Also, the store layout is 1/2 a very cool market-square and 1/2 Costco-style big box supermarket. Unfortunately, the specialty sandwiches and pizza are what you would find in any food court. As a matter of principle, Whole Foods does not carry the big name brands. Whole Foods offers more organic and healthy choices. Whole Foods offers more and larger dining venues (Seafood, BBQ, Sushi, Wine and Cheese (sandwiches and salads) and an outstanding wine tasting room. And on a staff-to-staff match up, Whole Foods is superior on providing smart people who are results and relationship oriented. Whole Foods offers a better beer selection (and you can buy pints on draft for a little more than $3) You get healthier prepared foods. The parking is easy, as there is a wide and deep lot. The layout is fun. The seafood bar is in the seafood section and the BBQ bar in the butcher's section. The Wine and Cheese bar is next to the wine section. I also like brick oven pizza and craft sandwiches. I admit that I am Whole Foods convert. From my personal experience, I have noticed over the past year, since I made the switch, that I drink much less soda and eat fresher and organic foods. And finally (because this really bugs me) despite Whole Foods misplaced reputation of being for "rich people" (as some people have posted in their reviews) the prices are very competitive and in some cases Wegmans is more expensive. Granted, on average Whole Foods can be 25 cents to $1 more a pound on produce. But I will point out that Whole Foods does bring in a lot of locally grown and that costs the store more. And local produce can stay on the vine or branch longer, arrive fresher and more flavorful - which is a great reason to pay a little more. I loved shopping at Wegmans in Leesburg - then Covid hit and being a senior with health issues, I have been relying on the delivery or roadside pick up which was a life-saver for me. Until today. My complaint is really about Instacart, which I understand partners with Wegmans for such services. An $85.00 on-line order placed in the morning, that was scheduled to be delivered between 4:00/5:00pm - to be delayed to 7:00pm - to be delayed to 9:00pm - to be delayed to 9:30pm with conflicting reasons from Instacart was incredulous. 2 calls to Wegmans and 3 calls to Instacart was very inconvenient only to learn that Wegmans didn't have my order in their computer - so as far as they were aware - no one was going to be scheduled to handle my shopping. I get that things happen - but all I got from Instacart was, "I understand - and that's all I can tell you at this time" - can't even speak with a Manager because they're "not available". Not good enough when I've already paid for my groceries and waiting on dinner for a family of 3! I highly recommend Wegmans reconsiders using their partnership with Instacart. I couldn't post this review without choosing a star rating - I'd rather give it a "0". read more

I can't complain about the variety of stock and the sales floor aesthetic when it comes to this Wegman's. Still, I, as well as a few other Wegman's shoppers, continue to be mystified by the fact that this grocery store chain located this outlet in out-of-the-way location that is only known only to the locals. My favorite place to go for deserts and cheese for any fancy party! As with all Wegmans this store is crazy huge! The cheese and wine sections are very knowledgable and helpful. We've tried so many delicious varieties with some misses. Definitely the store to go to if your having a fancy party. They also have many organic food items and normal items, but I feel like the prices on these items are slightly more expensive that a regular grocery store so I only go there for deserts, cheese, and wine. read more

Dear Wegmans, Please come to Texas. We need you desperately! Having been introduced to Wegmans by a few friends from Rochester, I was skeptical because of how much they raved about it. I mean, how great can a grocery store be? Well, they were totally correct in raving about Wegmans. The pre-prepared foods, bakery, soups, asian food bar, pizzas, deli, I could go on and on. They are always coming up with innovative recipes and creations, and even though I now live out of the Wegmans zone, I love receiving their mailers with recipes and holiday meal ideas. Worst customer service! I placed a catering order and when I was about to pick it up, I called and asked if someone can bring my one pan order outside because I have dogs in the car and I didn't wanna leave them in the hot. The woman said "no you can park on the side and come inside to pick it up" I get there and there are "No Parking" signs all through the front of the store. On the eighth day, God created Wegmans and It was Good. This is probably the best grocery store in which I have set foot. It is three stories, and even though I have shopped here for years I only recently discovered they have a whole section full of about two dozen kinds of loose leaf tea that you can just scoop into bags! They have all kinds of prepared foods that are delicious and competitively priced. In addition, they have hard to find items like multiple varieties of flax milk and all sorts of foods and drinks made from soy (if that's what you're into). The past two Thankgivings I have used their excellent prepared foods department. I just pick it up and reheat it in the oven. The main grocery floor is huge, with one whole side devoted to all sorts of prepared items, from pizza to fish to bakery and deli items. It's like having multiple small restaurants inside a giant grocery store. Parking can be a challenge if the store is crowded, and the store itself can be pretty crowded at times. read more

How about an amazing home meal, without cooking ? Just go to wegmans. They have everything! From cooked food ready to be boxed in the buffet part of the store, to regular store food. Everything is fresh, the cakes are amazing (raspberry mousse cake is delicious). The meat section is clearly fresh. You can get the meat cut in front of you, and the staff will definitely let you know if there is something they wouldn't recommend. The bakery section is clearly overpriced for the quality though ($4 for a baguette, à french bakery will give you a better one for a cheaper price). The cheese section has an amazing selection. Priced at the same range as whole foods, larger choice. The wine selection is impressive. Wine stores have a real competition here. We love shopping there because we feel like we're really eating fresh products. Especially when it comes to fruits and vegetables, you taste the difference. Yes, your average check will be much higher by shopping a Wegmans compared to giant. But you'll see and feel the difference. read more

Everyone I know on this area absolutely loves Wegmans. I heard it was so cheap and they have everything. Well.... I think between Walmart and the Commissary I can get better prices. The selection however, is simply awesome! Cheese.... Oh my... cheese heaven! I love cheese. I think they have just about every cheese. The produce looks great. They don't have baskets of veggies out that look half rotten or like they are about to turn. If Wegmans were a man, I'd marry ASAP. They've just got everything a girl could want! A wonderful produce and bakery selection as well as delicious prepared foods at their extensive hot bar, the best flowers always on display, high quality organic teas and snacks...I really could spend hours at Wegmans if you let me. My staples here are their cartons of freshly squeezed orange juice, their jalapeno cheddar and olive rolls, their always fresh sushi selection, and last but definitely not least, their heavenly FRUIT TART!!!! Please, if you haven't gotten to experience it's deliciousness, you must go now! Just a note, the mini fruit tarts have a different crust then the larger fruit tarts (you can choose from the round, rectangular, or square). All 3 of the larger fruit tarts have a sugar cookie dough tart crust, whereas the mini fruit tart has a pastry dough base for it's crust. I am partial towards the crust on the larger tarts and really could eat a whole one on my own, but the mini's are pretty good too. Staff are always usually pretty friendly and helpful as well. I used to go to other coffee shops, but I would rather come here for coffee which is located conveniently next to the bakery. The pumpkin bread here is very moist and delicious (seasonal item FYI). My other favorite department here is produce because there's so many choices and it's like a farmers market seven days a week. The employees are also very knowledgeable about their products and make good recommendations. This is where I first tried cotton candy grapes, and learned various ways on how to cook spaghetti squash. They also have a basting oil here that taste amazing to put on the spaghetti squash. Wegmans is THE best supermarket bar none. Their food is priced well, it's fresh, it's delicious. Their Wegmans brands give you the value you'd expect from store brands without the drop off in quality. Their wine and beer selection is RIDICULOUS and they carry my Victory Golden Monkey which is usually hard to find. The only place you can get good quality supermarket sushi is Wegmans. I went there the other day and they even had a signature roll that they called the "something volcano" (can't remember the whole name) It was amazing. The pizza, the chineese, the seafood, the bakery.... I just had a cake today and it was also amazing. In their meat department they have regular cuts of steak as well as more expensive and delicious dry aged. Seriously, so glad I live near a Wegmans!!! I could spend the entire day at Wegman's. A day at Wegman's is so much more than merely supermarket shopping: It's a divine experience. First off, it's GY-NOR-MOUS and it's chocked full of everything. It's full of food, beverages (including wine) and stuff (cooking stuff, health stuff, toiletry stuff, season stuff, etc.) You can buy your food in a box or wrapped or get it loose like a slice of pizza, a sandwich, some hot Asian food, salad, fresh bread, etc. There is ample seating so you can immediately eat what you've bought. There's no skimping on napkins or utensils and the tables are always clean. I've been there several times just to enjoy the salad-bar food. Another plus is the great wine selection. I'm a major Trader Joe's wine enthusiast and the selection and pricing of Wegman's wine is serious competition. Just the mere fact the Wegman's is huge means they have more to offer. I like that Wegman's keeps prices low (like TJs) while offering fantastic variety of products. It's what I could imagine TJs being if it expanded. It's what Whole Foods should be as far as pricing. If you haven't been to Wegman's, you have got to go to Wegman's. If you drop by on the weekend, be prepared to deal with the hordes. The worst part of the wknd-hordes would be finding a good spot in the parking lot. Once you are inside, you won't feel the crush of people simply because the space is so large. I hate grocery shopping, just over the whole thing. But Wegman's isn't a grocery store, it's an experience. It's the Disney World of grocery stores. You could shop here for hours... But I'd like to focus this review on what I feel is an overlooked aspect of Wegman's: the subs. They are simple and delicious - I think it is the freshly baked bread, the wheat roll is so good. Anyway, everything about the store is terrific and I'm glad we NoVa residents finally have a Wegman's to call our own. We have actually made *special* trips to drive out to Wegmans (I really wish there was one in DC). You can find pricey "specialty food" like truffles and cheap everyday food! Wegmans is so much more than a grocery store. It's a 21st century mega grocery store. It is Costco + Whole foods + supermarket + bakery + deli + coffee shop + buffet + winery + drug store/pharmacy + florist all rolled into one store. It takes grocery shopping to the next level. You really can get lost in their expansive space. People don't come here just for shopping groceries ... They come here for experience. They have a extensive hot food selection you will find a pourpuri of ethic food as well as good old comfort food. You will find this Wegmans packed during lunch hours. Be warn you may have a difficult time finding parking during these times. So why 4 stars instead of 5... Well their fruits/vegetable/seafood section is not as fresh as Whole food. Alright, I am always honest: Wegmans has great produce, prices and many food products (I love that they carry Graeters Ice Cream). Me and my family have been shopping here since it has opened and I love how Wegmans treats it employees. Some of my high school friends got scholarships from here to attend college just for working here. I love coming here for lunch. Their bakery is fabulous, my family and I loved Wegmans for having a gluten free section (we still do!). But holy hot cakes on a frying pan, this place is always full. It always takes a long time to check out and there is way too many people. I don't come here when I am in a hurry. Hopefully when the new location in Chantilly opens, it won't be as crowded (fingers cross). Come in super early to avoid crowds. read more

Best grocery store in the area. The prices are better than Harris Teeter, by about $20-$30 for a weeks worth of groceries for 2 people ($80-$100). Rent a ZipCar for 2-3 hours to go there on week day and you'll still save money. On a weekend when ZipCar prices are little more, you'll break even or pay a little more. But it's a great shopping experience so I think it's worth it. read more

This place is like the walmart of groceries...they have literally everything you can think of! I started shopping at wegmans because its the only place that carries washing soda, in their laundry aisle. Then i realized they have an decent selection of organic and natural products, both fresh (produce, meats, cheeses, etc) and packaged products like cereals, chips, crackers, soy milk, etc. They also have a ginormous candy bulk section, and a random aisle of childrens things. Its like a whole foods, cvs and a walmart had a baby! Anyway, i also found their pricing for organic produce to be comparable or cheaper, so i have begun frequenting wegmans more than whole foods now. Their organic ground beef is the same price as costco and they sell a leaner ground beef, so technically cheaper! everything else is still good quality and extensive! read more

We freaking love this place. It's like if you took all the best parts of Whole Foods, Trader Joes, a drugstore, and a regular grocery store and made one super store, you'd have Wegemans. Just wish there were more locations!!! Considering most of the stuff is organic, the prices are phenomenal. The produce and meat/seafood are very fresh. Because the store is so big, it may take a while at first to find what you're looking for, but you eventually learn. Their bakery/dessert area is amazing. The large fruit tart is our go-to item to bring for dinner parties - seriously delicious and on par with restaurant quality. Also the floral department is fantastic - with a large variety fresh cut flowers and plants. Recently bought a bunch of rose bushes for Mother's Day for only $18 each! I'll one-up Collin W.'s review and say that I go a good hour to go here (and if I went by transit, it'd be double that). The subs, wing bar, deli (try the red hots, nuclear sausage, and landjager) and the entire bakery section make this place worth it alone. The seafood bar in the middle of the seafood section is unique as is the large sections for just about everything. Getting outside the specialty sections, their "regular" groceries are also above average. The fact that they sell Radiatore, which Giant dumped, and have store brand Fresca are other tiny little esoteric pluses that I like. If Wegmans had a sustainable model for a urban store a la Harris Teeter, didn't make enemies in county government (see Arlington and until recently Montgomery Counties, and didn't enter secret noncompetes with far lesser chains, I'd give infinite stars to them! At least they stepped up the game of Giant and Safeway, made Shoppers improve, and de-roared Food Lion into Bloom; imagine where DC-area supermarkets would be without them. read more

This place is phenomenal. Yes, it is packed out more often than not. I've been shopping regularly for about five years and always have a great experience. 9/10 times I find everything I need and many other items that are on sale for solid prices. I'll pay a couple bucks more and spend time for parking for an exceptional shopping experience. Wegmans is always extremely clean and the employees are polite, knowledgeable, and efficient. I seldom wait in line more than 2-3 minutes to check out and the same cannot be said for their competition. Minor issues: Are they a business that charges a lot for "convenience" foods? Of course. I have found some of the asian wokery take-out to be hit or miss in flavor/temperature, but that is to be expected. Parking isn't ideal, the garage used to be excellent but shoppers have caught on. I do most of my shopping after 8PM and find the produce is typically filled/fresh and most of the aisles are clear (or minimally obstructed). I'll take any of these issues over more significant problems with any other grocer in the area. read more

I love Wegman's! From their fresh fruit and vegetables to their fresh baked bread and pastries - all I can say is 'wow'! I wish they still made their strawberry chiffon cake because that was my favorite. Their chocolate chip cookies with walnuts that are half dipped in chocolate are the best. I'm very fortunate to have this Wegman's right down the street from me. Here's a tip: avoid going to Wegman's during the day on the weekends. It gets really crowded. Supermarkets are supermarkets and this has pretty much the same stuff all the huge supermarkets have, but much more and lots of choices of everything. It's clean. Prepared sushi is good quality. I LOVE Wegmans. It is cheaper than Giant, way cheaper than Harris Teeter and Whole Foods and delivers an excellent shopping experience. They have an amazing selection of produce, with a semi-recently expanded Asian foods section and a huge wine corner. The meat and seafood are fresh and they have a great selection - you can find duck most of the time, already frenched rack-of-lamb (because who really wants to do this themselves), Cornish game hens and the usual assortment of chicken, beef, pork, etc. Wegmans is what you would get if you combined Costco, Whole Foods and the kitchen and bath sections of Target. There is a big "natural/organic/vegan, etc" section. There are dishes and pretty seasonal products. You can find lovely scented body salts and lotions and even random things like yoga mats. They provide competitively priced "family packs" of many staple items from meat to spaghetti sauce to eggs which is a great deal for a big family like ours. No need to pay for a BJs or Costco membership! read more

I came by Tuesday, July 4th around 4pm to pick up some items for the grill. The butcher (female) was VERY helpful when I asked her a question about the steaks and I really did appreciate her help. However, as I made my way to the seafood section, I was very disappointed. I was the only customer there and the man behind the counter did not ask me if I needed help with anything and he could see I was trying to make a decision. He just stared at me the whole time. Once I decided on the scallops, I greeted him with a friendly "hello" and he returned a very flat, unwelcoming "hi". My experience with EVERY supermarket is they hand your food to you weather you're at the deli or seafood counter. This guy just plopped my food on the counter and never smiled or anything. it was rude and he made me feel like he didn't even want me there. He didn't even ask me if I wanted anything else. So it gets better at checkout. This young guy checked me out and I smiled and said "hello" and asked how he was doing and he said absolutely NOTHING! He didn't even smile or say anything to me the whole time. Whatever, so now I am just ready to leave this snooty place. I noticed that when he checked out the person behind me, he was very welcoming and said hello and asked how that person was doing. I guess my money is no good here. P.S. In addition to the female butcher being very helpful and friendly, there was also a girl in the wine department that greeted me and smiled and she too made me feel welcome. Cannot say enough great things about Wegmans! This is my first and only go-to place. Everything is of fine quality, so many choices and love that it's a one-stop destination. You name it, they have it! Not to mention the amazing service and a super tasty food bar with lots of choices for everyone to choose from. I absolutely adore their bakery department! Aw, so good. Wegmans has all the rare/healthy things that are hard to find or are only sold in health stores. I just love it! The "food court" has a good selection of everything and the cake to order is GREAT here! I also like some of their bakery items and find the taste of their cookies better than those of Whole Foods (my personal preference). General groceries are comparably priced and lots of selection on ethnic foods that I don't see in general supermarkets. This store has pretty much everything - even cleaning supplies, and at a reasonable price - I don't have to swing by Walmart or Target if I'm also trying to get my organic produce shopping done, and if I get hungry shopping - everything's there! I can't give them 5 stars because the produce has not been fresh (particularly the greens along the back wall - lots of wilted and discolored leaves in past visits; not sure if it's b/c of the heat of the season in transit, but Whole Foods seems to have been able to preserve their goods so I'm basing my judgment to be an individual issue rather than global problem). Also, some basic things like organic blueberries cannot be found there - so strange, as you can find them everywhere else. If they pick this up and keep it up consistently, I could raise the star. All in all, I'd give it 4.5ish and still recommend. :) read more
