For the folks that don't know what Lidl is. It is a grocery store with the essentials at low prices. Similar to Aldi, but better. They have a bakery section that has freshly baked goods like cookies, croissants, bread for a low price. They do have bags (paper and plastic) but you will have to pay for them. Best bring your own bags. I've been to a few other Lidl locations, but I have to say this one is definitely the best in terms of selection and layout. Everything is neatly organized (except for the limited time items - see pics). Good selection of produce, meat, dairy, beer and wine. They even carry some name brand items like Turkey Hill ice cream and Colgate toothpaste, things that their competitor, Aldi, does not have. As long as the food I am looking for is not too exotic, I normally can find all my groceries at Lidl. This is conveniently located right next to Walmart, so anything that I can't find at Lidl or that is out of stock, I would just walk next door. Though I do wish the parking lot was designed better (not that this is Lidl's fault or a dealbreaker). But whoever designed that parking lot should find another profession. There is one main entrance to the parking lot from the main road (Lee Highway) where congestion always occurs. They really should have designed multiple outlets to the main road. Even during the weekdays I could be spending 5 mins just trying to get in/get out of the lot. My only complaints are sometimes certain produce tend to go out of stock (like butter lettuce or edamame). Or some produce are not in great shape (like mandarins). Earlier this year and last year their blueberries often had mold when still in the store. But after I brought that to their attention via their app, I no longer saw that was an issue. Originally they were selling green onion in plastic bags, which made them rot faster. But now they sell them in the open, as they should be. I would like to think that they take feedback seriously. Speaking of the app, it's pretty fantastic. I use it to not only get further discounts on cheap items, but also to find items through the store and compare prices to other stores. In general their items are the cheapest even when compared to Walmart or Aldi. Remember to scan the app's QR code at checkout to get the discounts. I also like how Lidl handles their checkout lines. To minimize staffing cost, they try to keep the number of checkout lines to a minimum. They are able to quickly open or close lines depending on the volume of customers. Though often times you will be waiting a bit to checkout vs traditional grocery stores like Giant or Wegmans. There is no self-checkout options at this store. But their checkout counters have two conveyor belts exiting (see pics) so that the previous customer can take their time bagging their groceries without holding up the next customer. Plus there are counters against the wall for folks who want to take their time bagging their groceries in their carts. The staff are generally pretty courteous and helpful. There are one off cases where the cashier clearly doesn't want to be there. But overall I think the staff are trained well. read more

Was in the area & I decided to pop in 'cause I had remembered seeing the weekly circular advertising a Bonsai plant that I've been looking for this one for a while. Sadly they did not have the one advertised but they did have a bunch of Bonsai's. I will go to another Lidl to see if I can find that exact one but every time they seem to advertise Bonsai's, the one I'm looking for is the one pictured in the ad but it's never what they have, lol. Regardless, their prices on plants are amazing! Needless to say, I did not buy anything this trip but this store is amazing! It is huge, clean & well stocked. My local Lidl is so tiny but most of the stores in my hood are tiny, lol. This is definitely one that I would make a trip to, just for the selection! read more

There has been numerous supply shortages recently especially at the Lidl closer to my home. I'd go and they have no chicken, no bread, no water, and the list goes on. However, this particular Lidl location has consistently had mostly everything in stock that I normally purchase. It makes the 45 minutes drive totally worth it because I don't have to go to multiple different stores just to look for something. I appreciate the stockers at this Lidl location for ensuring everything that I normally purchase are mostly always in stock-- chicken thighs, chicken tenders, ground pork, ribeye steak, filtered water, fresh basil and rosemary in nursery pots, on sale bakery items, AND most importantly, great cashiers providing excellent checkout experience. I would like to especially highlight my consistently positive experiences I've had with Ms Rhianna at the checkout line. I always choose her checkout line over others because she is very friendly but also incredibly efficient. Even if there's a line of 3 cash registers lane open with more than 5-6 people ahead of me, her lane is always the fastest. What's impressive with her is her attention to detail and consistently pleasant interactions I've experienced. It's nice to not feel rushed but also nice to not feel like I've had to wait forever in line. And that's not the easiest thing to do when there's a snaking long line. Many cashiers get overwhelmed and either toss items resulting in scratches or damages or unwilling to punch in the phone number for Lidl Rewards. And I completely understand that especially when there's a snaking line behind me. I've had leaking bottles of milk and busted eggs because of mishandled merchandise at other Lidl locations. Such a thing isn't something I ever have to worry about with Ms Rhianna. After all , it's people like Ms Rhianna that REALLY sets this particular a store apart from other Lidl stores and its nearby competitors. I live walking distance from Aldi, Target, Safeway, and Trader Joe's but I'd rather drive 45 minutes to this Lidl. And I'd like to think that's a big deal knowing I live not far from a closer Lidl as well. And I'm perfectly happy driving from Maryland on weekday evenings even in traffic because I can get everything I need and I have the guarantee of positive interaction with someone like Ms Rhianna. In sum, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this Lidl location to anyone. read more

5 stars for having multiple mobility scooters making shopping while on crutches so much easier! There are so many stores that don't offer them, so these are much appreciated! Absolutely love their bakery and their produce! Get their medjool dates in the produce section if you see them (they are the richest, largest, sweetest dates you will have ever tried!) I love how they carry both vanilla and plain soy milk. Prices are a tad higher than a competitor chain, but the bakery and scooter wins it for me! read more

I shopped at Lidl for the very first time in December and I was really impressed, especially with the prices. It really reminds me of Aldi, but a pinch more fancy and glamorous. Unlike Aldi, the shopping carts do not require a quarter to use. The carts are really huge! I didn't see a smaller cart. The store has fresh produce in the very front of the store and rather large bakery and bread section. From there, they have all the things people tend to buy in this area. Everything was so spot on, very precise, and no extra fluff. They have non-food items like stuff for the house, clothes, blankets, random items, cleaning stuff as well. Tons of frozen food options. What really stood out were the international treats from Europe. They have those caramel cookies from the Netherlands, and all sorts of interesting snacks. Decent beer and wine selection. Bring your own bags or you will need to purchase them at the check-out. I really liked this place! read more

The bakery also has a much nicer selection! However, while the produce aisle is much bigger, the quality didn't seem to be better. Lidl has a little bit of this and that. On a plus note, excellent value for chicken and ground beef. Also pork chops when available, are quite the deal. You won't complete your shopping list, and they have a above average fruit and produce area. The store itself has narrow aisles, lots of people, and an arduous check out area. You'll save money, but they keep costs low with minimal staffing. For the record, the employees who work here are polite and helpful. They definitely give all they have, and I've been impressed by the service. Yet sometimes the convenience factor isn't there. Here you'll find some bargains, but they also have a lot of what I call "clutter on sale." It's in the back part of the store. This can be an eye sore. Yet some people like it apparently. This is a unique and interesting store, and I'm glad it's here. read more

I have seen the signs around town. Nice size store with much variety to choose from. You will see some named brands, lots of others. Some look very similar in label and colors and all. Worth a try at the price. Lots of fresh baked goods, fresh produce......pretty decent prices ...seafood selection looked good......cases all very clean and packed out well. Baking aisle had everything I needed, at prices hard not buy more, especially in smaller packaging. Theres a huge selection of organic and farm feed items. Nice selection of meats and chicken. A bit different than the casing we are used to. I found chicken breast to be priced at $1.77 per pound there's a deal whether you needed chicken breast or not! Hard to pass up. Some other meats and prices vary There's also a wall of wines and beers....a 12 pack of Yuengling Lager @ $10.98 had too !!! ....... Beer selection was interesting some German beers in 16oz bottles very reasonable priced. Lots of chocolates, German and Swedish I believe.... If your watching prices there are many deals here, but be watchful... Some items such as eggs other dairy and some of the produce are a bit higher than there competitor. I also noticed the weigh ounces verse pounds... looks like a possible deal...???????. There is also some clothing, household and kitchen items. Along with toys and seasonal stuff too !! Over all, I did appreciate the pleasant friendly cashier James. He welcomed me and he mentioned their STORE APP, which will alert me of weekly sale items. And also once signed up it will track of my spending for rewards towards future in-store specials. Cart: Free carts, but only 1 stall outside to return the cart. Diversity of food: In the land of German grocers (LIDL, ALDI, & Trader Joe's), LIDL is 2nd to TJ for their diversity of food. They have way more options than the ALDI next door. Various different spices, cultural foods, and better quality health foods. Better seafood variety. Large bags of frozen fruit. Some really awesome frozen food items too. Brands other than LIDL's brand too. Cleanliness & Organization: Cleaner and more organized than ALDI. You can easily find items here. Most of the organic staples are grouped together. Savings: Prices are comparable to ALDI. LIDL has an app for additional savings though, so that helps. Checkout: ALDI flings your items in your basket, then pushes your cart away while entering your PIN. LIDL, you put your own items in the cart & can more than likely bag everything straight off the belt vs at a separate counter. COVID precautions: They have a decked out sanitation station: wipes, spray, paper towels, gloves, and sanitizer. read more

10/27/20 Yesterday, I was asked to get dinner. My wife was in the mood for vegetarian lasagna with a salad.  Since I was near a Walmart after my doctor's appointment,  I drove to the Walmart shopping Center in Fairfax Virginia.  I saw that Lidl was open and decided to check out the new store that was once Big Lots. This store has been cleaned up and looks 1000 times better. The vegetables looked clean an fresh and the store was well stocked.    I liked how clean it was in the store too. I saw a staff members wearing purple gloves while sanitizing her station.  I saw some  products sold here that ARE NOT  ANIMAL TESTED.  I saw some name brands I am familiar with and some I am not familiar with.  I thought to myself my wife needs to see this store for herself. I did see vegetarian lasagna is sold here, but in a much smaller amount.  Still the prices are low for the amount you get.  I couldn't help, but remembered when I was living in Geneva Switzerland and France. I remember the portion sizes and thought what would the French and Swiss say about these smaller sizes?    "Monsieur Fox, ces tailles sont encore gigantesques, comment une personne pourrait-elle manger autant? (Mr. Fox these sizes are still gigantic, how could a person eat so much?)"   Well all I can saw is this. Take what you can eat. Then save the rest for later.  Sadly, I did not buy this lasagna.  I needed a bigger size for two people and the size I saw wouldn't be enough. I did see some very good snacks and other foods for other family night meals. I will definitely keep this in mind; as well, as taking my wife her next week. I also enjoyed the wall of fame too. It doesn't look like too many people go over to this wall, but this area of the store was clean too. Oh, on one more note, the men's bathroom was fairly clean, but more airfreshner is needed in the bathroom. This was my first time here, but the ambience in the store felt nice.  I shall return. read more

This Lidl had the usual items: produce, great chocolates & items you would see in a gourmet grocery store, fun non food items (toys, kitchen gadgets & gardening items). The cashier was nice. I am a regular shopper at Lidl, Ashbrook Plaza, Ashburn, VA. While checking myself out during a recent visit, I had a very offensive encounter with one of the store employees who appeared to insinuate that I was attempting to steal. When purchasing loose produce, you can either conduct a search to verify weight or count, or you can enter a code. With the latter, their system apparently defaults to one and does not ask for a count, so you have to enter the item twice. As I was trying to figure out what I needed to do next to enter the count, the clerk who was watching intervened to override and enter the item quantity. I was simply trying to figure out the system. We are approaching the end of 2024, and Black people are still being followed and stalked by suspicious store clerks. He did not take his eyes off me for the rest of the time I was in the store. This is ignorant, stupid, racist, unnecessary behavior that needs to stop. read more

Excited to have more options to shop. Definitely better than Aldi with name brand items, not nearly the same level as Wegmans, Whole foods or Trader Joe's. There are things I crave and need to go to those stores for whereas nothing special or unique about this store. It is clean, bright and service was good at checkout. They have some name brands but the house brands I've tried so far- several varieties of chips and tater tots have been sub par. Bought a bag of four avocados and two were completely rotted though they looked and felt ok. They have a bakery with items individually wrapped - nice hygiene. Could add more prepared food items, very limited selections. Prices are ok- not super cheap like some suggested. If you happen to be shopping at Walmart or you are close by, check it out. I finally made my way to this LIdl location. It's much more closer than the Manassas one. This Lidl is surprising locating in the same building structure as Walmart. This, there is plenty of parking. Similar to its Manassas location, it has its own carts and grocery bags to purchase. However, it doesn't have self checkout. There is a dedicated entrance and exit and employees were wearing masks. Due to COVID, the bakery items are all packaged now and their refund policy has been temporarily suspended. The store is clean although a bit crowded with the people that shop on the weekends. There are some clearance sections spread throughout the store. Overall, this Lidl is a good place to shop for groceries and everything else it doesn't have can be addressed with a quick walk to Walmart. read more

Many of their delightful products cannot be found outside of Lidl. My family can try so many delicious treats from Europe. And the prices are so unbelievably reasonable for the quality and variety they offer. We feel we are so fortunate to have this store nearby! The staff are friendly and helpful! I like my daughter to shop with me and yesterday she picked out a Halloween cat that was stuffed. The item along with other Halloween stuffed items were priced at a clearance prince of 5 dollars. I told my daughter sure, you can havw the cat as she loooves cats. At checkout it didn't ring up and the cashier said that he received a notice Ana called the manager who then claimed this note means we cannot sell these items. I suggested th er not have the item on the floor with the price rage if they cannot sell the item. My daughter was very upset as she is 9 and just wanted the cat. The manager could care less. Honestly this store is kind of rude to have items on the floor they can't sell and then could care less about kids that are then upset. So many other stores other there with better management and better customer service. Very disappointed. I think this is not a good place to take kids as who knows when they will randomly tell you they can't sell something on the floor? read more

Important for a diabetic partner. Supply is variable, though. See something you like? Stock up. Might not be there next time. Have also had it happen that maple syrup on special, advertised in their flyer, was not avlbl. But they immed substituted a smaller size they carry regularly. Supply issues are likely pandemic related and can't be helped. Just saying ... Easy to get in and out of store from parking lot, even with groceries. Important criterion for us old people. Might be further away, but this is our go to Lidl store. read more

This is another one of my new favorite supermarket stores. I've never been to a LIDL so I wasn't sure what to expect. We came in pretty early after we dropped off our own to the vet (which was conveniently located on the other side of the strip mall). They took the old spot of what used to be Big lots! right next to Walmart on Jermantown Rd. They had a nice selection of produce and a wonderful smelling bakery! We had to try out their loaves. For $.79 we couldn't say no to a loaf! It was delicious by the way. We had sandwiches for lunch . We also grabbed some of their sale items: blueberries were sweet, cabbage was only $.39 (a steal!), organic bananas were $.89 for 10 (I think). Then we browsed through their frozen items. The crab cakes were in sale for $3.99 a pack, each pack had 4 crab cakes. They were delicious and for a dollar a crab cake, we got two packs! Because why not?!? They had some delicious-looking frozen pizzas but we didn't grab any because we already have crab cakes but will definitely be back to try some of their frozen meals. They seem to be a cross between Trader Joe's and Aldi- which is great because we love both stores!!! We'll definitely be back. Bit sure how long they'll be doing this but just a tip: sign up and download their app and you get $5 off your $30 purchase. Check them out! read more

Good values for a basic grocery store. Games with the line and closing registers when you're next in line to get cut off by people behind you and you end up four behind when they then open the line you were on in about two minutes is ridiculous. I went to Lidl in Fairfax for the first time today--in the rain. Not worth the effort. The prices overall are not that different and when I went to check out, the cashier told me that the app was down--neither she nor I could determine which sale items were in my cart. I would have had to have gone throughout the entire store looking up the things I'd purchased. It was a disaster. If I could return the $90-plus in items I bought, I would. An extremely frustrating experience. The cashier kept telling those in line to blame it on the rain. I gave it one star only because the lights were on. read more

I love that Lidl is expanding in our area! They are a lot like Aldi, just a bit more refined. This store recently opened in what was once a Big Lots so there is a lot of square footage. I have been to sever other locations in Nova that were built from the ground up and they seem a lot smaller in footprint. Where aisles are crowded at other locations, the aisles are quite wide and everything is well spaced out. It was the first time at a Lidl where I didn't actually have another body run into me! It is very bright inside and very clean. They have revamped the bakery area to reflect Covid safety measures where they have prepackaged items. I have to say that I really like it that way better than having tons of people grabbing into bins so you don't know who else has touched your items. There is a bread slicer for your fresh bakery loaves! They have a great selection of produce, including organic, and it is a really good price... fresh too! A lot of the beef is grass fed but not overpriced like at other chains. I enjoy not having to pay more for better quality. Just like Aldi, they have what I call "crap and stuff" aisles. It is quite a mixed bag of things and there are never the same things from week to week ranging from clothes, books, toys, to garden tools, grills, and gifts. Be sure to be on the lookout throughout the store for the German specialty foods such as frozen strudel and jarred beets. The beer reflects the German influences of the chain and the wine selection is huge and inexpensive. The absolute NOT TO MISS items are in the chocolate section! A majority of their chocolates are from Switzerland and Germany and they cost less than Hershey! read more

Probably the best grocery store in the area value wise (Aldi down the road is a close contender), the quality of food overall is not bad as well. Sometimes they do not have items in stock that they advertise in the weekly ad. Sometimes they also put similar regular priced items next to the ones that are on sale, so you mistakenly grab full priced ones. So, make sure to look over your receipt before you leave the store and get a refund for any 'wrongly' priced items. Even better watch the prices as they run up as getting a refund is a 20 mins ordeal. Despite all this, I shop here regularly due to a good variety of offerings and generally low prices. Even though Lidl has a great assortment of foods for cheap prices, I would not recommend it. Because they should be aware that other people are shopping for Thanksgiving foods, cashiers should have been more well-staffed. There was only ONE cashier staffed in the entire store while others were restocking the shelves and helping customers. Totally ridiculous. Another cashier said he was willing to help us scan our items. He offered if we wanted to use our MyLidl and I was ready to sign up right there, but then he just abruptly said it was "too late." As soon as customers saw there was another cashier, they rushed impatiently. Of course, with Lidl's policy, you have to bag it yourself to make it faster, but it was difficult because we only had two bags. With more impatient customers and less staff, the cashier and customer before us were yelling at us to hurry up and we had no choice but to literally throw the food items and bag like a careless person. I feel insulted coming here considering I have vision problems and do not see as well. I had a mental breakdown about it today. Also, the carts were not sanitized since I found random plastic bags in them. Do they not understand that we are in a pandemic? Unfortunately, I will not be coming back to Lidl after this experience. You know it's going to be busier than usual because of Thanksgiving and still choose to understaff the cashier sections. I did not get the name of the cashier from today but I know he had a German accent. Please do not shop at the Fairfax location if you do not want to deal with rude cashiers, disorganized management, and unclean carts. Take your business somewhere else. read more

I purchased an Electric Cordless drill with a battery made by PARKSIDE, last summer. maybe used 3 times last summer. When I checked the drill yesterday it was not working and when I plugged it into the charger it did not get charged, it is one year old, 3 times used and now it is broken. I am not sure if there is a warranty? I will never buy electric stuff from Lidl in the future. read more

I was a fan of Lidl in the UK, so glad this one has opened up nearby. I like the fresh fruit and veg aisle. Like all supermarkets not everything is good, so you really need to pick and choose what to buy. I'm not a fan of their frozen foods or deli meats in their fridge section. They also only have white bread options in their bakery, so usually have to go elsewhere to get fresh whole meal bread, their eggs were also not fresh tasting. But staff at checkout are friendly and helpful and they always hand out coupons for your next visit. read more

Since 3 months ago every time I go to store to the special ale item they are out today it was the last straw. They have grass fed organic ground beef for 3 packs for 13.49 and other special items they were out of all of them I wet to shop on the first day of sale they had none I wen today Sunday there was none they exact same meat but sold in single package instead of 3 I asked the manager said no. I decided that I will never ever shop at Lidl because with fake advertising trying to lure people to the store. I picked many other items but I left it and bought none. I had a lot of shopping to do today, so I decided to go to lidl, I got everything I wanted and they had everything in stock. When I went to buy dinner rolls from the bakery, they were all out but an associate who works in the bakery told us that if we waited a couple more minute, more will be read. I would like to thank you Jonathan for the help, I have been coming to this lidl store since the first day thry opened and Jonathan is by far the nicest employee I've have met, he was polite, and when I told him thank you so much, and asked him if I can do anything for him, he said " thank you for shopping at Lidl and have a good rest of your day" this is what all associates should be like. I went to this store for the first time today. I liked what I saw. The prices are even better than Wegman's, which is the store I usually go to. I also liked Lidl better than Aldi. This store is new and could be attractive but unfortunately they lack attention to the customer. There are no self-check out lines and most of the time to cut costs they operate with ONLY ONE check-out line, so one ends up spending a long time in line (after experiencing this several times, tonight I gave up!). This is particularly annoying when one only has a few items to buy but the people in front made groceries for the whole week/month etc. Annoyingly, fresh bread is not available as early as 7pm. They don't bake any after 6pm or so to avoid having leftovers. This looks like cost control to them but it's pure narrow mindness. Knowing the likelihood to find bread is low starting 6:30pm (and close to zero after 7pm), I simply give up going to this Lidl location. Hence, I buy bread AND other groceries at other stores even if I would marginally prefer the bread at Lidl (bref, not having bread after 7pm reduces your sales of other merchandise). Finally, train your personnel to be open-minded and courteous. As of now, they seem indifferent to any customer feedback (as benevolently framed as possible). Having merchandise on the shelves is not sufficient to attract customers. Customer-orientation would help! read more
