I don't know why, but I seem to be the only person that kinda hates this place. I detest going here. It's crowded. Lines move slow. I hate the parking structure. But. What they do well, they DO WELL. Pizza with truffle oil, to die for. Their sushi? Pretty good for a grocery store - it's fresh and waay better than whole food's. It's all about the rice. Mussels are pretty cheap - 6.00/2 lbs. Awesome selection of cheeses and deli meats. Way better than Whole Foods which severely lacks the deli section. Their french bread is definitely more flavorful than most I've tried - but also more expensive that any I've bought. Things they do bad? Fish. I will never go back for fish. I asked a gentleman who was helping me to fillet a porgy. He not only left a good chunk of meat (about a couple of cm of meat on each side), but he didn't skin it for me. There were a number of scales still left on the fish and I found a number of bones while I was slicing it up for my stew. Prices. Their prices aren't that great, especially when it comes to spices. Just a couple of weeks ago, I was price checking peanut oil and garlic powder (I go grocery shopping maybe 3X a week) and finding that whole foods sold it cheaper - WHOLE FOODS mind you. All in all, I grant this place 3 stars. This is hands down my favorite grocery store. Everything you need, from the good old cheap grocery store brands to high end gourmet brands. My only complaint is with the hot food bar, its not "bad" persay, but its certainly not that good (and it is rather pricey). I have a love-hate relationship with Wegmans. Love their variety. Love all the exciting endless food choices. I salivate over their bakery aisles and salad bars .... But.... I dread the weekend crowds here and parking lot nightmare. This place is the absolute DEFINITION of claustrophobia. I often wonder what kind of sick architect designed the structure and parking lot so absurdly poorly? If you weren't claustrophobic, you will be after shopping here on a weekend. Traffic cart jams inside the store and traffic lines outside it... just to try and park here! Whew! This place is a madhouse on the weekends. I can only come here every few months because it is so traumatizing. I was actually told by a friend of mine that she was offered to be taken here for a dinner date! This is essentially the ideal grocery store. Reasons you should shop here: +Enormous store with a huge selection +Nice sized wine collection in the basement +Fantastic fresh food section with meat and bakery samples +Great $/lb salad bar +Lots of seating spread across 2 levels so you can enjoy a meal while looking out over the well decorated restaurant +They have a bulk bin isle +They have events including a book signing by Iron Chef Morimoto that I attended +All of the employees are nice and helpful +Gigantor parking lot +Reasonable prices on everything except some prepared foods and fresh meats When I lived next door I would come here for both groceries and to have a nice meal on their second level. I drive past quite a few different grocery stores to shop at Wegmans. Their everyday prices are cheaper than the competition's sale prices, which means I can buy whatever I want, whenever I want. The reusable grocery bags are sturdy and have a nice large capacity, and the insulated one is great for the massive amounts of ice cream that I buy in the summer. Why the docked star? In general they have a great selection of pretty much everything I could ever want. But they don't carry individually frozen chicken breasts, and are always sold out of the Simply Lemonade with Raspberry that I'm addicted to, forcing me to stop at Giant more than I would like. read more

This review is on their pizza, I got their large pizza with pepperoni, it was not that good! Way too greasy and the crust was not as tasty as others I had. My cost was about $ 14.00 for a 1 topping pizza! My suggestion is if you like pizza give CostCo a try! They have a large combo pizza for $ 9.99 plus tax. I LOVED this place..now the workers and management seem to be less customer oriented. Their cashiers seem to be getting worse. Their seafood and butcher sections are filled with arrogant people. I hate saying this about my beloved Wegmans..Ive been such a faithful shopper here at the Fairfax one..but the sparkle has faded..they have made it past thier early years here..and seem to be in a comfort zone. By the way, their hot food bar prices seems to have gone up two dollas in the last 3-4 years. Yikes! Gas hasnt even gone up that much. That represents a huge increase. read more

Full disclosure here: I'm from Western NY, so grew up with Wegmans (lucky me - seriously - how does the rest of the country shop without it?) and talk to anyone from that part of the world and you'll always hear the same thing about Wegmans :) However, when you leave NY state you TRULY appreciate how amazingly awesome Wegmans is. I live about three miles away and am here at least twice a week (was a big selling pt when we bought our condo and moved from Alexandria). The pizza is the best around and from the sub station, Danny's Favorite is a must-try. My favorite part about Fairfax Wegmans is the wine cellar (you can't sell wine in grocery stores in NY, so this addition is a HUGE plus for Wegs - thanks Virginia!). Sadly though, they don't carry many of the Finger Lakes wine I love from home (piss off, Virginia). Everyone who has said this is correct - the place IS a ZOO on the weekends, but seriously - tough it out. Did you really want to go to Safeway? I didn't think so. I want to dispel one myth - Wegmans is NOT expensive by NOVA standards. Its not nearly as expensive as Whole Foods, so don't let this keep you from going. I spend $50 at Safeway and don't even know what I bought. Your money will go far at Wegmans and if you're looking for a steal, their own brand of foods (in almost every category) is every bit as good as name-brand. Enjoy - and you have Rochester, NY to thank for it :) PS - to the person who started this thread - there's no apostrophe in Wegmans. I adore Wegmans. Even though its a 20 minute drive for me to get to the Fairfax location - it is totally worth the trip. If I wasn't just in love with the store and its commitment to quality - the cost savings alone on items would be worth it. (Have also been to the Sterling store too - also very nice.) Caveat - Wegmans is not just around the corner for me, so I don't really use it for staple groceries unless I'm going there for other things. Though I must say the 2 full aisles of international cuisine items is very nice. My one exception to "regular" groceries - Wegmans is the only place I've found that you can still get a proper (top-split) New England-style hot dog rolls. What REALLY makes Wegmans is the staff! Hands down. Want "greener" bananas - the produce staff is ALWAYS happy to pull out a box if they have one for you and shelf up some "younger" options. The seafood people understand the concept of things like "3 sea scallops roughly the same size" and the folks in the meat department happily cut my boneless pork chops in half so I can have 2 thinner portions. I've NEVER had a better experience in a store of any kind with the staff. I lost my cart in the organic section of the store - an employee noticed I looked lost, asked what was the problem and helped me find it in the 3-4 aisle. One time I couldn't find something in the store - and the employee I stopped and asked didn't just wave a hand and say "aisle X" - he actually stopped what he was doing, took me over to the other side of the store where the item was located and helped me find exactly what I was looking for. When was the last time you got service like that? The fresh food (non-shelf or frozen) part of Wegmans has a very "old-world" feel to it with lots of little departments, almost as if you were strolling along main street popping into one establishment or another picking up the ingredients for dinner. Produce department - FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Massive variety (I've yet to encounter the recipe that I could not find even the ingredient here. Easily a wide selection in any produce category from 1/2 dozen types of apples or pears to a dozen or more types of mushrooms or greens. Also has a wide variety of organic produce and fresh herbs. One of the best things: you don't have to root through the bin for a good orange, tomato, artichoke, etc.... I just walk up and pick one. Cheese department - You would think you were in a little neighborhood fromaggier. 100s of options. The blue cheese case alone must have 30 types both domestic and international varieties. There is also an extensive olive bar from which you can get 3 sizes of fresh mozzarella, as well as a variety of humus, dips, and spreads. One of my favorite things - the edamame, corn & black bean salad. Meat & Seafood - I've had both the ready to cook options (the lemon chicken is lovely) as well as just gotten meat and fish. I've never had a bad thing here and the prices are very good, particularly when something is on sale. I've even taken a break from shopping and had an oyster or two at the raw bar. SUSHI - I don't get "grocery store" sushi very often, but the guys making it are right there where you can watch and I have been known to grab something from the case and sit at one of the tables to have a snack before heading home. Deli - Its a deli, but not to miss are its selection of cured italian meats and fresh sausages. Plus - they know how to properly cut prosciutto so you don't end getting home with an expensive ball of sticky mess. Bakery & Patissier - Bakery is so-so, nothing is really outstanding though I do like the onion foccacia. The bagels are good too. The Patissier is wonderful however. There are cold desserts packaged in the cooler case - some in individual servings, and then there is a good selection of fresh pasteries. Many of them are chocolate - but they usually have at least 1 non-chocolate option and I will say I'm not a chocolate person, but I did like the sample of the chocolate torte I tried very much. Prepared Foods: Good sushi, hot chinese food bar (I'm in love with the cream shrimp) is very good, nice side dish options from the deli (regularly get the potato salad, cheese lasagna, and a few of the other "salad" options), decent selection of kosher offerings, soups from the raw bar - excellent (but pricy), other hot soups - tend to be a bit salty or flavorless, salad bar - very fresh with a selection of various hot food options too, Pizza - I'd pass as I didn't like it at all. Only thing I haven't tried in the prepared foods is the "cook to order" selections. They also have a nice selection of sandwiches, salads and "take and heat" options available. I would have to say - my only "issue" with the Fairfax Wegmans (this isn't a problem at the Sterling location) is the parking. It is very crowded both the surface lot and the garage and the flow of traffic isn't very good as there are very limited ways to get into and out of the parking lot read more

I absolutely love this Wegmans even though it is packed all the time. Had the best customer service today. My cashier (I wish I remembered her name!) was a polite, efficient young lady. One of my reusable bags had grease on it from my car somehow and it got all over her hands. She was very gracious about it and cleaned it up then checked to make sure it wasn't anything dangerous. Then once I had finished packing my car, I had only made it a few steps away when a nice gentleman named Nathan walked up and took care of my cart for me. One reason why I think living in Fairfax is great; Wegman's! This is the east coast version of the west coast Gelsons. They carry most of the organic brands, they have a pretty good selection of eurpean beer and an awesome wine cellar filled with wines from all parts of the world at affordable prices. And their cheese selection is very big as well (my husband's favorite part of the store). You could smell their cheese section a mile away and right next to the cheese shop is a little area where they have all types of olives. My daughter loves coming to the store and watching the mini train choo choo above our heads. Even their shopping carts are great, they also have garaged parking for those rainy days. People tend to have a misconseption about this store, they tend to believe that it's more expensive than the general stores like Giant and Safeway. When infact I saw a special on the Today Show. They mentioned how Wegman actually carrys more of a variety at less of a price. It's also a great place to stop and grab a bite to eat. They have a grand selection of foods from all over the world. You can order it and make it fresh for you, and they also have sushi chefs make fresh sushi to go. You can order anything from pizza and subs to ribs and thia food. They also have a wonderful area for you to sit, eat and enjoy your food. And the icing on top; they have a fresh and delicious bakery...yummy! They make everything and anything you could think of in regards to pastries and bread. everything under one roof, very classy and super service with a smile! read more

A taste of home. This place has it all. Your taste profile, family dynamics, and budget are all covered with Wegmans. There's a diverse product selection. It doesn't have 900 different cacao chips like Trader Joe's, but you can get anything you need here. It doesn't specialize in organic toothpaste and deodorant costing a whole paycheck like you know whom. I won't call them out because I like them as well and they have a more convenient presence here for me. But, there is a large organic presence in the store, especially as compared to no presence when I was growing up. This place is middle of the road but it has an excellent fresh seafood area and butcher. They will even give you recipes and suggestions for your selections. If your feeling lazy, pick something up from the bakery, hot / cold bars, or the in store restaurant. Each store is huge. Check it out if not for the cost savings alone. read more

I've avoided Wegmans for a long time now, fearful of the damage I would do on my wallet. On one hand, I was right, I bought a LOT of groceries. But when I went to check-out--even without buying sale items (oops), the cost was significantly lower than that of my Whole Foods and Trader Joe's weekly lists. And I didn't have to go to 2 spots! They have EVERYTHING--spring roll wrappers, gluten-free wraps and snacks, organic proteins, wild caught seafood, organic produce that is fresh and long-lasting. Conceptually, I thought it was pretty awesome, too. Their salad/hot/soup/sandwich/pizza bars, sushi center, bakery, and coffee shop had pretty much what anyone could possibly want if they wanted to add a meal to their shopping experience. They even had what looked like a small dining area for folks who wanted to sit down. How is this difference from Whole Foods or other grocery stores with to-go foods? Quantity and quality. This store is ginormous. I wish it wasn't so far from me in DC otherwise I'd do all my shopping there. read more

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Wegmans! It's clean and has tons of selection. I won't bore you with all the details that everyone already mentioned. For me, it's the simple things. I can get things like soymilk and cheerios (you know, everyday stuff) for the lowest price I've seen, if you buy in bulk (which we easily go through in a week). I think I even found some toiletry items for cheaper than other places, which is surprising considering it's a grocery store. You can choose a long or short push cart and the wheels on the carts don't stick! The garage parking is perfect for rainy days. Plus they have a decent wine selection area downstairs below the cafe. I told you I was simple. Oh yeah, the choo-choo train is pretty charming. Trust me, one trip and you'll be hooked! read more

Greatest grocery store EVER. As soon as they opened in the area, I heard rave reviews from other moms and coworkers about what an amazing place Wegmans was and have I made the trip yet and what the hell was I waiting for and why had I not taken the family yet. I dismissed their rave reviews thinking, okay whatever people, a grocery store is a grocery store right? WRONG! This place has everything. The selection is great, and the quality is even better! And it is all quite reasonably priced too. Big fan of their fresh produce, meats, seafood, cheeses, beer and wine, bakery, deli, prepared food, I can go on and on. There is even a food and wine bar to have lunch or a quick drink. Even better: In 2008, Wegmans set a great example for the food industry with their decision to stop selling tobacco products in their stores. Way to put public health before profits, Wegmans! The only thing wrong with this Wegmans location is that it is PACKED. The least crowded I've seen it would be at off hours like very early in the morning on a weekend or very late around closing time on a weekday. Huge selection - overwhelming and scary! But that's Wegman's, right? I hear they're putting one in Springfield, which would be great, too. But I digress. Wegman's really does have everything, but that means maybe this should be an occasional destination rather than weekly grocery shopping, because the store is so big it'll just eat your afternoon. But it's fun! And has a food court! So much cheese, marinated meat, wine, etc. There are a lot of cash registers, but it's still kind of a madhouse to check out (and park) on the weekend. read more

I think over all its a great store. Great selection of both gourmet and regular grocery store choices. Good prepared foods. I live with in walking distance, so its easy to get to. I have a unhealthy addiction to their cannoli's... but they are cannoli's... so who can blame me. My only gripe? The other customers. Hitting that place for groceries around noon, or most anytime on the weekend... place seems like a magnet for the rub and obnoxious... kids running around, people ramming charts into each other... This grocery store changed the way I view grocery stores. Just like getting a DVR, once you go to Wegmans its hard to imagine life beforehand and you have no interest in going back. They have an amazing selection of well, everything. Personal highlights include the butcher/seafood selection, cheese shop, bakery, produce, and seafood bar! The seafood bar offers up fresh seafood cooked to order right in the store. Pull up a stool get a local brewery beer ($3/ea.) and sample the catch of the day oh and no gratuity is accepted! I could rant and rave about this place all day but you really have to go and experience it for yourself. If you aren't close to one take a lazy Sunday afternoon and make the drive, its worth it. This place definitely warrants the cult-like following of its most loyal customers and if you love food you'll feel the same way after a visit. read more

I love Wegmans. When I was dragged (I mean when I moved) to VA after marrying my hubby, I lived within walking distance of this grocery store. This place made leaving all my friends and family behind worth it. Really. Their selection is awesome, their hot food...yummy. Best of all, there is underground parking so you don't even have to take your coat or umbrella. LOVE IT! Unfortunately, we moved 20 minutes away so I don't get to go as often as I like, and when I do, it's during peak times so it's crowded. read more

ok I haven't been there in awhile but here what I like about Wegmans. They have LARGE variety selections of foods from cheeses to organic foods. Fresh fruits and veggies but i always check the expiration date. Another reason I enjoy much is cafe and bakery section. you'll feel like going to fleamarket trying new food and discovering new taste. I love their tarts its so yummy. Their tea section is not my type but there is unique items that i like. anywayz who drinks green tea hot in a can?! suppose to be in cooler. For a quick lunch i'll grab like Sushi box and some delhi foods. sometimes i'll grab prepared seafood for dinner too. They taste better then Whole Foods. I love their interior design and train models in the store. wish they have self-service check out machines like Harris Teeter. I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it yet (I don't think they did) so I will - Wegman's has new plastic bags designed to hold up to 25 pounds! If you're concerned about the environment, or if you hate it when your bag rips open in the parking lot, then this is good news for you. Because the bags can hold more, the goal is to pack them as much as possible to reduce the number of bags needed. Just a quick note about the friendly and quick service and the fact that everybody knows where everything is. I love that I don't have to wander around that huge store trying to find someone who can point me in the right direction. I also don't think they've ever been out of anything I needed before, which is a plus. And I've never been one for already-prepared meals, but their food (from the deli to the bakery to the roasted chicken to the sushi) is always delicious. And they have a great wine cellar. I will admit, though, that I don't dare shop there during peak hours. It gets so jammed it's just plain uncomfortable. read more

I love Wegmans! I will admit that it's taken me two years of living here before finally checking it out. I had this misperception that it was really upscale and expensive. But it's not at all! It's actually cheaper then Giant and other stores. They have everything you could ever think of. I love that they have produce from local farms so if you can't make it to the farmers market you can get it here. Their wine selection is really good and the people that work there are very knowledgeable and helpful. I have no complaints about this place except for how crowded it gets. I have loved this store since it's 3rd day in business back in early February 2005, and I don't think I could love this grocery store more than I do. I have *never* had anything remotely resembling a bad experience and I have been there a LOT in its 4 1/2 years of existence at this location. I only occasionally eat out because I consider it time consuming, so given that I take the vast majority of my meals at home, I naturally need to visit a grocery store a lot. 90% or more of my shopping is done at this Wegmans, Trader Joe's in Centreville and Costco, but Wegmans is my most frequently used place--I'm there 2-3 times per month. "But it's so expensive!" There is a frequent assumption that Wegmans is all high end and expensive. Hogwash. The assumption, however wrong, is made because Wegmans does indeed have a wide variety of expensive high-end offerings, most of which competing grocery stores (Giant, Safeway, etc) don't offer. I like that they have these options when I want luxury food. But Wegmans can be cheap, too, and that's not *only* when you buy Wegmans brand. Even other brands. Just have a look around, compare to other stores and you'll see there are tons of options that aren't expensive. Quite often, even less than other stores for name brand items. I know the place well, so I usually don't need help finding things, but when I have needed help, my encounters with employees have never been anything less than helpful to. No wonder--Fortune magazine ranks it one of the best places to work. To be sure, Wegmans doesn't have "everything," but they are close. There is a short list of products I prefer to buy elsewhere (Trader Joes' & Costco), but I emphasize the list is short. I won't go in to details about all the nice features of the store since it's been done before, but I just wanted to argue against the premise that it's so expensive, and to simply say that it's been wonderful each and every time I have been. Seriously, 100% of the time, I've been happy and never had a complaint. Botoom line is that Wegmans is my favorite place to shop for groceries, by far. Wegman's is the Shangri-La of grocery stores. There is just no other way to put it. Let me start off by addressing some of the alleged "shortcomings" of Wegman's, as addressed by other Yelpers: * "Higher prices compared to other grocery stores" - Absolute BS. I've shopped at Safeway (whose prices are nothing short of larceny) and Giant numerous times because they're a little closer to me, and they've got NOTHING on Wegman's prices. I consistently compare prices on everything I buy, and I promise you that over 90% of things other stores have, Wegman's has it for a better price. I have an MBA, and I marvel how a store like Wegmans, who employs so much staff and has so much overhead, can consistently compete with prices of the more "economy" grocery stores. * "Bad Service" - I've been to Wegman's dozens of times (no hyperbole), and have never had an issue with rude/unfriendly service there. Go to any other grocery store, and you'll see an open cashier enjoying a break when they don't have any customers in their line. In Wegmans, they're required to stand in the front of the checkout aisle and let customers know that they're open, which they happily do. * "Lack of Selection": short of obscure international produce that you can only find at Asian grocery stores, if you can't find something at any other grocery store, check Wegman's - 'cause they'll have it. Being objective, here are some of the "con's" of Wegmans: - "Traffic": go there at peak times, and the store will be SLAMMED. - Parking: go there at a peak time, and the parking lot will be filled with people that honestly must have bribed someone to pass their driving test, because they have no idea how to simply back out of their parking spot, let alone navigate their land boats around people. - Patrons: similar to the parking situation, you'll get a ton of people that have absolutely no idea how to navigate their shopping cart, in addition to the aforementioned land-boats they drive. I guess what i'm trying to say is: the place can get BUSY, and rightfully so, because they're awesome. Best. Grocery Store. Ever. read more

If you want fresh produce and top of the line meats and fish, Wegmans is your one stop shop for everything. Every section in this place is large and has LOTS of options. You can find any kind of meat, any kind of cheese, fresh butcher, deli, lobsters, fish, etc. at anytime. I recommend going on the weekends in early afternoons for free samples on select items to include cheese, granola, cured meat, sushi, soup, granola, protein bars, etc. I live 25 minutes away and there's a Giant across the street yet my wife insists on driving all the way to Wegmans for grocery shopping on Sundays. I don't mind - I love the free samples and can always make sure I get an ample selection of nutritious and healthy protein bars. The organic section is large, you can get fresh nuts dispensed by the bag...and they have a huge wine and beer selection - SCORE! So if you want food - and lots of it...and booze, go to Wegmans. It's a bit pricey, but you pay for quality. read more

For only the second time ever, I had a bad experience at Wegmans in Fairfax. I had selected a box of cherry tomatoes and decided I wanted a smaller container. The smaller one was grape tomatoes. A man was unloading tomatoes so I asked him what was the difference. He handed me some other container of tomatoes. After being polite and asking him again, he handed me yet another container. When it became apparent he didn't speak even a little English, I thanked him and moved on. He proceeded to follow me and hand me containers of tomatoes. When I got frustrated at this, he acted like I'd offended HIM. I then went to get seafood, and every question I asked the employee behind the counter, he had to get his manager (who insensed was annoyed at this employee). Again, it was a language barrier. At a place like Wegmans, I've come to expect knowledgeable and helpful employees. Coincidentally, the only other time I had problems was ordering a cake, and again, it was a language barrier. I thought that was a one-off. I understand it's hard to find employees these days, but there should be some kind of requirement that employees who need to interact with customers can do so. read more

I normally LOVE Wegman's and they normally have quite a nice staff,but I have been hitting this store at about 11 PM on Monday evenings. I have NEVER in my life seen cashiers as rude as I have the past couple times I have gone. One cashier won't even acknowledge you if you say hello, another one will tell you off if you don't use the divider in between groceries. However I love their blueberry muffin square cereal so I suppose I will continue putting up with their rudeness!! read more

My roommate is obsessed because he went to school in Ithaca and when he told me about Wegmans, at first I didn't get it. But then...we drove out there...and I saw the light! This place has everything! A great cheese counter, hot food bar, patisserie (love the fresh fruit tarts), large organics, fresh fruit...I could go on. What's even more amazing is that for a large grocery store, you almost get the feeling that you're in a large mom and pop shop---there are always employees in each section that are knowledgeable and willing to help. The butcher will talk to you about the different cuts of meat or help repackage portions so that you get exactly what you need. The fresh produce people will do the same and teach you to use the self serve weighing/tagging machine if you need a quick lesson (like I did). Finally, the patisserie also packages their cakes, tarts, sweets, in beautiful bakery boxes with a nice little gold seal. I've never tried eating at the counters where they cook the fresh seafood for you, but I'd like to do that one day. I'm always too busy filling my cart with goodies. Oh and did I mention that the prices are pretty good too...think Balduccis quality at Giant/Trader Joes prices. Can't argue with that... read more

Wegmans is pretty much the Disney World of grocery stores. They have everything you could want and more. This Wegmans is great, except for a few things. I went to pickup a parsnip and SO MANY FRUIT FLIES flew out at me! UGH! Just thinking about it makes my skin crawl. The parking lot is hell. Just park far, far away and you won't have to worry about idiots careening out of nowhere and nearly hitting you. But 4 stars. Its easy to get dinner here and the salad bar is always fresh and crisp. read more

Wegman's meets all my requirements for a stellar grocery store: a strong house brand, beautifully stocked prepared foods and bakery items, diverse produce selection, easy entertaining options, and appealing lunch items. The clam chowder, gorgeous fruits and veggies, stuffed dates, and wine maps showing the regions in which different varietals are grown are more than enough to make me swoon. I just wish the parking lot wasn't always so crowded. read more

After hearing and getting jealous about this supermarket Mecca for years I finally got the chance to see what Wegmans is really like. Well, it does not wow me as the legend has. Basically it is a like a super hybrid of all the great supermarket we have loved, mainly WF and Trader Joes, and the standard majority of other regional chain groceries. But the produce is not as fresh as WF. The meat and seafood lacks varieties when it comes to locally sourced protein compared with WF. The salad bar and hot bar is no where near close to WF. The snack selection is not as exotic and diverse as WF and TJs. The only part that excels is their bakery and patisserie department, especially the latter. Their chocolate mousse cake is by far the best I have had, almost like coming from a top restaurant. Their napoleon is also pretty good, but very heavy on whipped cream. I guess the real magic about Wegmans is for busy people you get to shop one place and have all your shopping list checked. But if you are like me who tends to harvest the best of different stores, Wegmans is not the best choice. read more

I first became acquainted with the awesomeness that is Wegmans while I was a law student in Syracuse. Wegmans was the highlight of my days there, so I was thrilled to find out that there are several Wegmans locations throughout the DC metro area! I was blown away by the prepared foods section and dining area in this particular location! Holy moly! You can find a wide variety of cuisines, from subs, pizza to Mexican and Asian dishes. Plenty of seating on the main and upper levels. The grocery store itself offers so much...baked goods, meats, gourmet cheeses. The selection is overwhelming! The gem here though is the selection of wine and beers! The lower level is dedicated to wines from all over the world. And the beer selection...wow! Wegmans gives Trader Joes and other stores some fierce competition! I'm a regular shopper at Safeway, and my bill at Wegmans came out more or less about what it would've been at Safeway, but I think just a tad bit more. Just the very best food court inside of a grocery store. Many, many, many choices and all kind of ethnic foods. Indian, American, Japanese, etc. Sushi lady was very eager to let you try any of the rolls she was making. Had some spicy salmon rolls and some cashew chicken. Just great. I agree that this is the BEST grocery store that I've ever been to as well -- selection is amazing -- and the prices are sooo much better than whole foods -- but I still think the meat at Whole Foods might be the best. You can get the crunchy organic stuff -- and the regular high quality stuff. Checking out is super fast -- you never get the lines like you get at most places -- but parking is a pain. They have a pretty decent wine selection downstairs too -- nothing to get super excited about -- Whole Foods probably has a better selection. And you can get salt patatoes here! read more
