Please Run before considering this bank. The worst bank I have ever had a loan with! They are dishonest and would not fix what they put on my credit report even though I paid my vehicle off two years earlier than my loan agreement. I started banking with WECU since I moved to Bellingham over 20 years ago. I've been going, almost exclusively, to the Sunset Branch for all of those years. I appreciate the staff getting to know me by name even with staff changes. WECU has assisted me through multiple financial crises in the past 3-5 years like C-19 and the loss of my parents. They've made it possible for me to go back home on 2 separate occasions to take care of estates. I enjoy the many options I have in checking and savings accounts through them and the low to no fees for services. Thank you WECU! read more

I have had loans with many different banks for many different products. WECU is by far and away the worst experience I've ever had. I was charged $1000+ on insurance when the support team contacted me months too late to shop for insurance. Didn't tell me they were going to charge me anyways, and after I bought insurance, then they charged me extra insurance on top because it was already too late. Then they lost my car license and registration and "has a policy they can't send some things twice." So now I have to pay for my own. Then their phone contact is to a general service which has no information other than asking you "have you read your loan package"? Yes. Of course I have, but when I ask if she wants to review it with me, she said that's not possible because I have to "enable electronic paperwork" which is another team and the general contact is "only for information", they're not there to help you. The lady on the phone was extremely rude and condescending and just kept saying "I'm just reading what I'm seeing here" and not answering any questions. And would answer different questions than I asked. And just kept repeating "you need to go read your loan package". Be careful if you bank with WECU. Make sure you read all of the fine prints because there are landmines in there. Then after I got to the loan team, the guy had to transfer me back to general to do a payoff and each time you transfer to the general contact, it's 1+ hours on hold. And after the payoff, WECU takes 6 weeks to process your title. This is by far and away the worst loan servicer in my lifetime. read more

I have been a WECU member for over 20 years after having moved to Western Washington and having had to uproot my banking. I tried a couple of the big banks and had a lot of trouble with them, and their customer service wasn't all that great (although some individuals did stand out). I started banking with WECU and was delighted by their friendly and efficient customer service and the scope of its services. I have never had issues with transactions, and when my debit card number was used fraudulently to purchase several thousand dollars worth of airfare, they acted immediately to block further purchases, disable the card, issue me a new card AND they got me back my money the next day. I recently had my bag stolen, along with my WECU debit and credit cards. Within minutes of the loss, I was able to disable my cards. Within a couple of hours, I was able to stop in, make sure the cards were canceled, check that no new transactions were made, and walked out with brand new cards in my hand. The teller was SO concerned and lovely! In short, I'm very pleased with WECU and plan to keep my main banking with them. read more

WECU is the most dishonest financial institution I've worked with. A few years ago, I opened an credit card with them. Every month they claimed that my payments "arrived late", and charged me all sorts of late fees. I'd been paying using the same online service for 20 years with other institutions without issue. I had a WECU loan on my Jeep. Recently, I traded in the Jeep for a Mini. The Mini dealer paid off my Jeep loan at WECU THREE WEEKS AGO. WECU claims they still haven't received the payments, even though FedEx shows that they delivered the check to WECU weeks ago. They are just delaying things to continue charging interest on a loan that should have been paid off and closed nearly a month ago. I'm not doing business with WECU ever again. read more

***UPDATE*** After reading the "managers" response we will connect with another credit union for the mercedes loan. We have connected an account to do auto payment as described in the original review.This is problematic for the reasons stated, Feels like he didn't even read the review and just schmoozed it over with word vomit, then left the ball in our park again. I will not be the one to reach out to them again. I pay for customer service they refuse to provide. Definitely the worst experience I have ever had with a credit union or bank. I got my auto loan through them, suggested by our Dealership (PNW Luxury, who I strongly recommend). The loan happens to be in my husbands name. He has had to request they add me (as I pay the bills) 3 times now and it's still a hassle every time I have to call them because they have made another mistake. Their online portal is awful. If you use a direct debit card for payment they charge you $8. If you do a money transfer it does through immediately (at your bank) but they do not credit your loan acct for several days to over a week. They forgot to pot my payment once and tried to charge me MORE than a late fee when it was paid early. I have never been late with any bill. I had to call them and tell them that they overcharged me. The portal is so screwed up that I can't even tell what the actual charge ended up being. They send emails and texts that they do not have the insurance information that I have indeed end 3 times. But when I reply to the email it's blocked from receiving responses. So, you are forced to call them. I sent and email through the website portal for a manager to contact me nearly a week ago, nothing. When I have told them I am leaning towards transferring my loan to one of our other credit unions they don't seem to care of offer any form of service recovery like even an apology for all of the mistakes we have encountered in the 6 short months we've been dealing with them. Transferring our loan and will never use or recommend them. I am certain we can get a much lower interest elsewhere, Our truck is at 2.9 @ Global and they have us at 9.9%. Im not sure when WECU started caring more about it's marquee projects than it did about it's loyal members, but it seems that shift has happened. My family and I have been members for 30+ years and it counts for nothing. If I am to be treated like a number, I will do it somewhere that appreciates my business and doesnt treat me like they are doing me a favor by making money off of me. read more

As of 10/1/24, they no longer have coin counting machines. They've teamed up with coinstar and you can send the money to your CHECKING account. Unfortunately, I only have a savings account. read more

I recently switched over to WECU from a larger bank that I was not a fan of. Using a credit union has a been a great experience so far. Even just opening accounts with Renae was easy as pie and she was very informative and followed up with us in the days afterwards making sure everything worked. They have a ton of branches around Whatcom county and the tellers are always friendly and happy to assist. They have less fees than big banks due to being a credit union, and my partner has had them catch some iffy action on his account and he was very impressed with the way it was handled. read more

WECU has always been a place that has treated me fairly and friendly. Everyone here is super nice and helpful. Recommend all my family and friends change to them and have convinced quite a few to do so. Sure there are sometimes long lines at the branch but it doesnt take too long to get through and help each person. read more

I'm quite happy with WECU, and the employees are nice and friendly, but it's altogether a different story with the app. The different categories that they have for the withdrawals or deposits with my checking account doesn't make any sense. For example, my monthly monetary automatic deposit, in which has been automatically deposited into my checking for several years, is listed under the category of "fast food". The cashier's check for my rent is listed under the category of "groceries" How does any of this make any sense!! read more

I have been a personal member for a little while and did not need to do much since I like to do the online banking. One day I need to open and Estate account and was going to use the bank my father used but it required me to take time off and go see the bank associate. I just did not have that kind of time so when I was doing my own banking I noticed I could set up an account online I did a zoom meeting in my time frame and got it all set up with very little problems the only thing is I can not do online banking for this account I am assuming it is because it is an Estate account but never did get the associate to answer that question when asked. After having been a member of several different big Banks and other credit unions I joined WECU in 2000 and I'm happy to have found a great Institution for all my needs. This Sunset branch is one of the newer locations and has friendly and helpful staff. The new online bill pay feature is a great time, envelope and stamp saver. read more

I put a stop payment on a check. Two days later the bank paid the check anyway, resulting in a 4 digit overdraft. They charged me $10 for the stop payment, then charged me another $2 to take money out of savings to cover the overdraft (that they shouldn't have paid in the first place). Two departments each assumed the other was handling the stop payment--resulting in me ending up in a colossal mess. They did fix it, but it took me 2 days and a lot of angst to get them to fix their error. read more

Tellers are perfectly nice and competent but it feels like my money is being held hostage because I can never get through the drive through. The wait is often 20 minutes plus. I realize we are in a pandemic but this location needs to pivot to serve their customers more efficiently or I will be taking my business elsewhere read more

One day I got a phone call by WECU representative asking me if I was in California, I said no. They did think so and had seen some credit card activity in California and was going to "kill" my card, it was used twice 1 at a goodwill and once at a KFC and was trying for a third time. When I first moved to Bellingham from B.C. I asked around about credit unions and heard nothing but good things about WECU. I became a member shortly after and have always had good experiences. Great service, friendly knowledgeable staff and lots of locations available. They also do a lot of charitable work in the community. Keep up the good work WECU. read more

I have been a huge fan of WECU, and I think that they are a great credit union. One one gripe lately is that they don't seem to have enough staff to keep up with the line of people. Its common that if you come in at lunchtime or on a Friday afternoon that you will need to wait in line 15 to 20 minutes, which is really too long to wait to deposit a check. Perhaps this is there way of pushing people to use the mobile app to deposit checks. The WECU mobile app is really difficult to use. If you have a secure password, something that is hopefully more than 3 or 4 characters, then you may have a challenge using their application as you will probably need to type your password on your phone several times. I know that after things not working and having to type my password 4 times I completely gave up on trying to use their mobile app. Their account management website and bill pay services are great. Extremely handy and I love it. read more

This is a relatively new WECU, it is a large and busy branch. This branch is located right by Lowe's, is easy to get to from I-5, Sunset, and Barkley. This branch has lots of parking, an easy to access ATM (right by the front door), and 4 lanes in the drive-thru. On a Friday afternoon, those lanes are packed! There is also a coin collector inside (for getting rid of all those coins you may have floating around). There is usually a line inside, but there are usually enough tellers waiting in the wings to knock out a long line. The lobby is light and airy with a very high ceiling (and some pretty cool passive lighting going on up there). I live nearby so this is a great branch for me, they have loan officers and I have been able to go through the steps to get auto and other loans here in this branch, it's handy. Staff have always been helpful, not always glowingly friendly, but that's okay, as long as I can get my business done fairly quickly, I'm okay with that. In this day when banks are finding reasons for us not to make the trip into the bank, this is a pretty nice branch to visit, if you have to go. read more

My wife's father passed away at 97 and we needed some assistance in getting some investment accounts transferred into an estate. It called for a Medallion Guarantee instead of a Notarized signature to effect the transfer. We took in what we thought was necessary and the assistant manager that we met with at the Sunset branch was extremely helpful explaining exactly what was needed to obtain the Medallion Guarantee. We were not even aware that Credit Unions did Medallion Guarantees. With the new information in hand we returned in a few days and they were very efficient in processing our papers and provided the Medallion Guarantee so that the investment accounts could be transferred into an estate account.
