Our Tivo Roamio OTA DVR died shortly after our 15-year old (non-Smart) Sony TV. The Tivo unit was our navigation and recording tool for the old Sony and we tried to use it with the new Roku we bought replace it. More importantly couldn't get the DVR to connect. My search for a new Tivo was fruitless; no new OTA devices available. Repair of our old Roamio was the only option. When I found and contacted WeaKnees, they were responsive, informative and they were clear and concise in providing their terms. They quoted their price to evaluate the unit and noted that if we chose not to have them repair it, the evaluation price would still need to be paid . . . made sense to me. I agreed to their terms and they sent me a Repair Order number along with packaging instructions for shipping the unit to them. I packaged the unit as instructed, took it to my local UPS store (freight charge from OK to CA was reasonable) and off it went via UPS Ground (5-7 day transit time). WeaKnees called me when they received the unit and had determined the problem; bad hard drive and power supply. The price they quoted for the repair was reasonable and I gave them the go-ahead. I received the repaired unit eight days later and it works like new. I highly recommend WeaKnees for Tivo repair. As a side note, they also sell repair parts if you choose to fix the unit yourself. Can't say enough good things about their service and products. I lost power in the great ice storm and when it came back 4 days later, the Tivo turned on but the hard drive was DOA. The unit was 4 years old but to be honest, after I saw the amount of high quality dust in there, I'm amazed it worked as long as it did. I called Tivo, they offered a refurb unit for &89 and $199 "lifetime" service fee transfer, but helped confirm it was the hd. I found weaknees and called: It's Sunday, dude: they're closed :) Can't blame them, but I e-mailed hoping to get an early answer when they reopened Monday. Nope, I get a nice response within an hour on Sunday, confirming the dx of dead hd. Answered a few other questions as the day went on--gee, I hope the person was at least sitting on the beach doing it on a smartphone! Anyway, outstanding response, and the new hd went out Monday as promised, arrived Wed (pd 2 day shipping to get it to the right coast fast--I was in withdrawal after 8 days of no tv) Swapped it out--fantastic instructions arrived printed with it and tools to remove the case, and it's also on line in .pdf which was easier to see as I did the repair at my desk. Let them know it powered up, worked, and what a pleasure I didn't have to format the hd or do any cabling to my computer to install software, and their formatted hd preserves the lifetime service on the unit, all for $140 plus extra for 2 day ship because I'm weak. If you are a TiVo lover then you definitely need to know about WeaKnees. They are TiVo specialists who have everything you need to keep your TiVo running for as long as possible. This is especially important if you have lifetime service and can't afford to start paying a monthly service fee. I've been addicted to my TiVo for almost six years. The older it gets the more I've been dreading the day when something would go wrong with it. Well, two weeks ago the day finally came when the internal temperature went way up. Fortunately, I found out about WeaKnees a few years ago so I didn't panic too much. I went to the website, checked the troubleshooting guide and found out I had a bad fan. I ordered a new fan (the best $20 I ever spent) and they included the tools I needed. I received my order two business days later as promised. I was a little bit nervous about replacing the fan myself but it was very easy and only took a few minutes. The temperature is back to normal and My TiVo is working perfectly. I have been a Weaknees customer since 2003 and have owned three different TiVo's with lifetime subscriptions. My go to guy for help is Jeff, a long time Weaknees employee. Jeff just started off my 2019 New Year by giving me some advice that lowered my FIOS bill by $28 a month. That's no typo. That's $28 bucks in my pocket. How did he do it? He suggested that I could retire an older Tivo that used two cable cards and one FIOS DVR and replace them with two Tivo Mini's from Weaknees. In 7 months I break even and the $28 a month is mine to keep. Jeff's in California and I'm in New York. We've never met in person but after 16 years I consider him as an old friend. When I bought my first Tivo I had to choose between Tivo and RePlay TV, back in the days when you had to choose between VHS and Betamax. Fortunately I chose Tivo, hooked up with Jeff at Weaknees for upgrades and repairs and have been happy ever since. My Series 3 HD Tivo with lifetime service started acting weird so I called TiVo customer support for help. They wanted to sell me a new unit, but lifetime service on a box is a big deal so I asked whether they could repair mine. They don't do repairs themselves, but TiVo recommended WeaKnees. That's right, TiVo customer support referred me to WeaKnees so these guys are the only officially sanctioned TiVo repair center. They were able to provide me with a shipping label so I could just pack up the unit and drop it off at the UPS store. I had it back within 7 days with a new power supply. Unfortunately, they did make a mistake because they were also supposed to replace the hard drive. When I called them they realized their mistake, send me another shipping label (they picked up the cost of shipping). And now my TiVo with lifetime service will live forever! :) Even in light of a misstep, WeaKnees was super-communicative with me throughout the entire process - helping me understand the repair options, helping me diagnose why the unit wasn't working after the first repair, and keeping me aware of when they'd received and shipped my unit back to me. I used WeaKnees once before to buy a replacement remote for my Toshiba DVR/TIVO unit. It is a Humvax - identical except for the name Humax instead of Toshiba on the remote. I just purchased what they called a refurbished Humax unit to replace another Toshiba DVR unit that quit working. It again is identical to my Toshiba RS-TX20 DVR recorder with harddrive except for Humax on the spot where Toshiba is. I swear it is brand new. It came with batteries, remote, all the hook up wires/cords anyone could need, sealed guide booklet and even a blank sealed DVD disc for burning. The unit is pristine. I got it in 2 days with regular shipping. I have never had to deal with them via email or phone so can't comment on that, but I will definitely go back to them with any further problems or purchases. read more

My TIVO went down about a year ago. The initial problem was it lost wireless connection. After several attemps to reconnect, the TV screen went black. As I had found this website before, I came back to it for troubleshooting. According to it, it was my power supply. But, not really sure, because of the wireless connection failing, I figured I would just send the whole thing it. I mean, a flat fee of $149 couldn't be beat, if there was more to it. I had to wait to send it in, you know, the economy and all, and, I also had a second TIVO, so it wasn't so bad. Anyway, all in the same week (it helped because they're only a few hours drive, by way of UPS) I shipped it, they repaired it, and I got it back. WOW! I'm up and running again! My tive direct tv unit was not working , I thought. I called to order a new one from this company ( I have bought 3 units there over the years. They gave me a price, but also said I should wait to order it because Direct tv was having software problems , and maybe the unit would start working again. I had been calling Direct tv for tech support for the previous 3 weeks about the issue with my unit and was never told about any software issue. Low and behold. I got a broadcast message in 2 days from direct tv about a software problem, just fixed by them, and my unit starting working. I cannot speak more highly of this company. I use Yelp all the time and never bother to leave reviews, but this company really does deserve my two cents. They are incredibly knowledgeable and are very helpful. I had a TiVo that had problems and they were very willing to help diagnose the problem, and they actually recommended a solution ( a replacement hard drive) that cost LESS than their repair service (which would have required me to send it in). I'm guessing they would have made more money had I not chosen a self-installation drive, but they were quick to point out that for less money, I"d be able to get up and running faster with a kit. Just helped me get my Tivo back up and running in less than 24 hours. Found my Series 3 Tivo dead yesterday morning- lights were on but TV screen was blank. Restarting didn't help. I had used Weaknees in the past for hard disk upgrades but never repairs. I went to their website and connected via chat. Within about 15 seconds they were on-line and helped me diagnose that it was likely a Power Supply failure (they have great on-line pictures and videos). I ordered a new Power Supply with overnight delivery, got it this morning, installed it in about 20 minutes, hooked it back up, and voila!- it works. These guys rock. Incredible help and service! I was helped to run my own diagnostic tests. The tests showed a failed/failing hard drive. I chose to have WeaKnees send me a box and return label and very quickly had my TiVo on the way to be repaired. The repairs were made with prompt contact from WeaKnees on an optional repair (noisy fan) and I was informed the following day that my TiVo was on the way home. It came and simply hooking it up, it acted like it was brand new - along with all my settings and recorded programs waiting for me to view them. WEAKNEES IS A FRAUD Weaknees claims to repair TiVos, but they don't even have parts! The only thing they know how to do is swap the hard drive, and for an outrageous fee. Anyone can swap their own hard drive themselves. Just open the case, unplug the old one and put a new one in its place. It really is that easy! Your TiVo will then reset itself, and lead you through the same setup process you did when your TiVo was new. If anything goes wrong with your TiVo, do not send it to Weaknees! I had a really great experience with WeaKnees. My antiquated Panasonic Replay 2000 unit went out without a warning. I called WeaKnees for some information, and they said sounds like you need a hard drive upgrade. I got the 80GB upgrade kit, and asked for installation instructions since I'm not technically inclined. The kit was delivered promptly, the instructions were explicit ( a 7th grader could have installed the drive), and now my old replay tv unit is up and running like a charm! You can't use iit with digital cable or hi-def satellite,but still get a pretty good s-video picture and recording. read more

Great website to help diagnose the problem, In addition they provided quick email feedback to narrow down the problem. Their video on how to install a power supply was clear and easy to follow. The part came in a timely manner. I got my 10 year old series 3 back up and running. I highly recommend Weaknees. After all when was the last time you were actually able to repair a consumer electronic device. Most of the time its toss in the trash and buy new. My TiVo Series 3 HD started freezing and re-starting itself on playback. I emailed Weaknees for advice, leaving plenty of room for them to say "mail it to us for (potentially costly) repair" or "buy a refurbished newer TiVo from us." Instead, they said the problem was almost certainly the hard drive, and recommended ordering a replacement drive from them and installing it myself. I did that and everything works perfectly again. I was devastated when my Tivo croaked. I was going on eight years with a lifetime subsription. I found the WeaKnees site through google and after going through the site I was able to diagnose my Tivo's problem. I ordered the replacement part and using the instructions on the website, I fixed my Tivo in under 5 mintutes! Hi. Bought my first Tivo from Weaknees. Custom job. Series 3 THX. back in 2006. This is by far the best DVR ever made.! It"s still plays like new. I t was over made. I also have a Series 4 right under it hooked networked. I record lots of OTA. Using 3 TB. of hard drive space. These units came from Weaknees and I couldn't be happier.
