We came up from St. Louis for Thanksgiving and got caught in a massive storm. Being from out of…read moretown, we were totally out of our element and didn't have a snow scraper. We felt helpless and embarrassed, but Nicole Wells at the front desk was a lifesaver. She was so incredibly sympathetic to our situation. She actually apologized that the hotel didn't have a loaner snow brush available, but she told us she was planning on investing in one soon so future guests wouldn't have this issue. In the meantime, she ran and grabbed us a broom so we could clean off our car. It's rare to find a manager who not only solves your immediate problem with kindness but is actively thinking about how to make the hotel better for the next person. She turned a stressful travel nightmare into a great memory. Grand Hospitality, promote this woman!

At the check-in desk, the receptionist provided a token for a free appetizer from the on-site restaurant, and there was a basket of complimentary cookies for guests! My room seemed more renovated than the photos of the hotel rooms online, which was a pleasant surprise, and was extremely comfortable. The TV had the option to cast from your personal device, so you are able to stream Netflix/YouTube from the big screen! I had no issues with the wifi during my stay. There was also a black-out blind which helped since the sun does set until after 9pm here! The location was also extremely convenient located on Main St - walking distance to downtown (1 mile), and just a short drive to Fremont Lake Park. The restaurant is open weekdays starting at 4pm, and has weekly specials. You can choose to eat at a table in the restaurant, or order to-go and have your meal delivered straight to your room. The continental breakfast buffet runs from 6-9am and is stocked with fresh fruit, an array of bagels/english muffins, and even an automatic pancake machine!

The dock by the lake does get a bit busy if you don't get there after breakfast, but we still got chairs. There was a wait for the kayaks, but only because there aren't enough paddles. Breakfast is delicious and it was a good mix of fresh, healthy and with a few sugary goodies like donuts and muffins. It's a really wonderful, relaxing and quiet adult only resort.

The B&B was right next to the lake and had an amazing view. All of the lake side windows had breathtaking lake views and the B & B in itself was wonderfully decorated! The aesthetics of this place were modern beach house. The room was well decorated as well and was very clean. It was spacious and it had all the amenities that we needed. We stayed at The Sleep Inn near the campus of Grand Valley State University the weekend of March 27…read moreto visit my son. I chose Sleep Inn as it was the hotel in closest proximity to campus. However, and this was a BIG MISTAKE on my part; I did not research it, or read any reviews. Had I done so, I would never have stayed there. All anyone needs to do is read some of the Google/Yelp reviews for this location, and you will learn all you need to know. The first red flag should have been the fact that there were maybe FOUR cars in the parking lot when we pulled up to check in. This should not be the case for a hotel that's located closest to the GVSU campus; people are always staying up in Allendale to visit their kids/for sporting events/etc., and that hotel should be booked to at least 70% capacity at all times. There was no one there. The room and hotel in general seemed a bit run down. The pool was filthy looking; cloudy water and seemingly abandoned. The overall atmosphere was a bit creepy as it seemed as if we were the only ones there... until it was time to go to sleep. Beginning at around 10:00 PM, we started to hear what sounded like someone (probably children most likely) jumping onto the floor right above our room. Loud thuds and footsteps could be heard over and over again as if kids were jumping off the furniture, and then running around the room and up and down the hallway right above us. We could also hear people talking. This went on for about an hour, and I finally decided to call the front desk... NO ANSWER. I called the front desk at least six times, and no one picked up! How can you run a hotel, and not have someone at the front desk 24/7? Suffice to say, I called Choice Hotels and complained and they gave me 8K points for a free stay at another hotel. I would never recommend The Sleep Inn near GVSU to anyone. I did not get any sleep as the loud noises went on through the night, and I was not comfortable. Avoid this location, and stay somewhere further from campus if need be. You will have a much better experience.
