The hotel is clean and well designed. We were not the only family staying her as it was also the pick of several families for travel baseball (about avg age of 8 years). The staff here is friendly and very welcoming. They work hard to make the customer not just feel welcomed, but in creating a sense of warmth. The rooms are suites and worked well while I was able to get some work in at the room desk while the husband slept. I went down to grab breakfast for us. Eggs, sausage, and biscuits and gravy as well as some yogurt. They also offer cereal and waffles and of course juice and coffee along with toast, bagels and some fruit (bananas and apples). It was simple yet hit the spot. The bed is comfortable and they provide extra blanket (light Comforter) that was perfect to cozy up under. I think my favorite feature is the outside fire pit in the evening. We grabbed a drink, sat by the fire and relaxed together into our evening. We will be back. Great atmosphere for the price.

Normally there's a little welcome for gold members - a bottle of water, a snack, a recognition - but not here. I did notice a cart full of little gift bags, but didn't ask. I requested for daily service of my room. Upon my return back to my room the first night it was not serviced. I went to the front desk and asked for help. They told me that housekeeping had left for the day. I requested coffee and towels be delivered and then left for dinner. When I got back to my room I saw the towels on the sofa and assumed everything was fine. The next morning I found 4 pods of decaf coffee had been left - no cup to brew it in, no condiments, essentially - no coffee. While at the desk I also asked for ideas for dinner that would be local and not chain food. Both agents were unable to offer much of anything - one said she had kids and eats McDonalds. Another guest told me of a few options. Then one agent went to the back and came back with a list of someone's favorites that was like 40 listings. I could use Yelp! or some other online tool, but I regularly count on the front desk to get a real idea of local food options from someone who really knows. They were just unprepared here. I went down to the pantry to grab a snack. Almost every shelf was empty. There were like 2 rice krispy treats on the whole wall. I felt like the place was closing up. The breakfast had the standard offerings, but somehow they were able to make it unappealing. The plate of cheese and meat had 3 pieces of cheese and 3 pieces of ham - all dried out and crunchy on the edges no one replenishing - so no biscuits and no bacon. The hard boiled eggs were never rinsed off and tasted like plastic. Could have asked for something if I ever saw someone, but didn't. The last thing was on my way out when there was a sign and a bell to ring for assistance. It's just not what is expected anymore. I don't remember the last time I walked in a hotel (before this) and didn't have an agent at the desk. When I return to Grand Rapids for work again, I won't be staying at this property.

I checked in using the digital key and was assigned room 219. When I got to the room, there was almost no toilet paper--just a tiny amount left on the roll, which I unfortunately discovered at the worst possible time. That same night, the TV didn't work, and when I called the front desk, I was told they would look at it the next day. That doesn't help when you're trying to relax that night. The next day things got much worse. After returning from work Tuesday evening, my key wouldn't work. I went to the front desk, showed them my digital key for room 219, and was issued a new key. I went back to the room, opened the door--and someone else was already staying in it. Back to the front desk again. After checking the system, they told me I was actually assigned to room 409. When we went up to 409 together, it was completely trashed--beds unmade, belongings scattered, towels and clothes on the floor. Clearly not a cleaned or vacant room. After calling the GM, I was finally moved to room 323, which thankfully was clean and empty. The most concerning part of this entire situation is the lack of accountability and explanation. I never checked in at the desk, yet somehow my room was reassigned without my knowledge. The GM could not clearly explain what happened--only that I had been "switched." I was initially offered 150,000 points, which was later changed to 50,000, and I was told I would receive a follow-up call explaining the situation. That call never came. I also contacted Hilton customer service on Friday 4/17 and was told I would hear from management within three days. That has also not happened. This wasn't just an inconvenience--it was a serious issue involving room security, cleanliness, and communication. Walking into an occupied room is unacceptable. The lack of follow-up afterward made it even worse. I would not stay here again based on this experience.

The horrible experience started from the get-go! We arrived around 3:15 PM (15 minutes after check-in time)! We were told that our room was not ready and that we would have to wait for them to finish our room. However, we had to get to my sister-in-law's surprise 50th birthday party down the road by 5 PM so we told the manager that we were fine with the floors not being mopped - everything else seemed to be done! The manager made some rude comment (while walking away from us) about us not being able to "complain" about anything since they weren't able to finish the inspection. Well...here are some legit complants: - Ceiling had multiple water leaks. - There were no large towels (we ended up calling for those, but this was understandable since the room wasn't ready when we arrived). - We ended up calling for a hair dryer since one was missing. As soon as we turned it on, it started smoking and instantly had the room smelling like smoke. When we asked for a replacement hair dryer, the front desk person seemed extremely irritated. - As we were leaving for the surprise birthday party, we noticed that our door didn't "latch"/lock. Anyone could push the door open without using the room key (we did it multiple times and didn't use the room key for the remainder of our stay). We spoke with the manager and she informed us that she could call maintenance to look into it, but that she wouldn't be able to move our room - we could leave our things at the front desk. We ended up packing up all of our things and moving them back into our car for while we were at away at the surprise party down the road. Maintenance never came out nor was the door fixed - anyone and everyone had easy access to our room while we were both away and during our stay (while sleeping). This was super concerning to me as we had our 11-year old daughter with us. Again - DO NOT RECOMMEND STAYING HERE, EVER!

For nearly 20 minutes, I stood at the desk while he fumbled through tasks that should be automatic for anyone trusted to work a hotel front desk. He repeatedly failed to listen, failed to comprehend clear explanations, and demonstrated a total lack of understanding of how to locate or apply a Platinum/Ambassador profile. This was not a system issue -- it was an operator issue. Because of his inability to perform even the most basic functions, I was forced to create a reservation myself, after which he still struggled to complete the process. He appeared confused by how to issue a room key -- a task so elementary that his failure raises serious questions about whether he is qualified to be in that role at all. After wasting an unreasonable amount of time, he then assigned me to the loudest possible side of the hotel, completely ignoring the fact that I had explicitly stopped because I could barely stay awake. That decision alone shows either complete indifference or outright incompetence. Having someone this disengaged, inattentive, and functionally incapable manning the front desk is a safety liability. Guests arrive late at night exhausted, disoriented, sometimes ill, sometimes coming off long drives. The front desk is the first and last line of stability. This individual provided none. His behavior suggested distraction, lack of urgency, and a total absence of accountability -- as if his focus was anywhere but his job. Whether that is due to poor training, poor hiring, or poor supervision is irrelevant. The outcome is the same: a complete operational failure at a critical guest-facing position. This was not an inconvenience. It was not a misunderstanding. It was a breakdown serious enough to endanger guests and damage trust in the brand. Someone this unprepared should not be placed in a role where guest safety, efficiency, and judgment matter -- because in this case, all three were missing.

Not only were we accommodated, but the experience from that moment forward exceeded every expectation. The manager, Sara, was phenomenal. She demonstrated exceptional hospitality and truly went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and valued. Her professionalism and warmth set the tone for our entire stay. Our room was spotless, smelled amazing, and was incredibly spacious. The shower was hands-down my favorite part--beautiful glass design with water pressure so good it rivaled a hot tub. Pure relaxation. We also loved the city view from our room. The bed was extremely comfortable, and being away from our kids for the night, we slept like babies. The "Customer Creation Bar" featured yogurt, granola, several different varieties of fresh fruit, and other toppings. The granola was excellent. There were several hot items including scrambled eggs and biscuits and gravy. The breakfast staff members were very friendly, greeting each guest and keeping the serving area and dining room very clean. Evening Social was a mashed potato bar, with a nice variety of options. Definitely will plan to stay here the next time I am working in this area.
