The staff is warm and welcoming, making every visit feel special. The hotel bathrooms are recently updated which is great too. The grounds were so beautiful during the fall. we even chose it as the venue for our wedding, and it was absolutely perfect. The food tasting offered was our first experience here and From start to finish, everything was seamless, thanks to Dawn, who made the planning process so easy and enjoyable. She went above and beyond to ensure every detail was just right. The food that night was nothing short of incredible--our guests are still raving about it! Whether you're looking for a casual dinner, a special celebration, or even the perfect wedding venue, Candlestone & The water tower grill is a gem. Highly recommend!

The beds are uncomfortable, the TV's are 19 inches smaller than most lab tops. The rooms have no dressers for clothes, only racks straight out of Ikea.First up: it's not a "resort". A resort has a pool or at bare minimum, a hot tub. Not this joint. Second: there is no maid service, so if you're staying multiple nights, get ready to fend for yourself when it comes to clean towels. The ceiling tiles are spotted with water stains in the lower level. Bathrooms were nasty with cobwebs all over. The restaurant claims to be a smokehouse... meh. Food was dry and bland. They have a good selection of BBQ sauces that help hide the cold meats that arrived at our table.

Once we arrived it was easy to call the listed number and get let in, which happened quickly despite our being after the agreed upon arrival time. Skylar then showed us around and left us to enjoy the room. She had their two children with them which was fun and gave the space more of the local family feel. We didn't hear them during the rest of our stay so no worries about late night cries etc. The house is beautiful and our room had a private bath with a huge jacuzzi tub. There was a window ac unit as well as a fan so we stayed comfy at night and even outside fireworks weren't too noticeable. We were a handy 10 minute walk to a multitude of restaurants and cute parks plus the river walk. There was also a parking spot at the house so we could leave the car and not worry as we walked in the city. The breakfast was especially tasty and Skylar made extra effort to accommodate our dietary needs by making something totally different for me (veggie hash with toast and yogurt all vegan). The fruit, juice and coffee for all were tastefully laid out and made for a refreshing breakfast experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would stay here again!

Did I mention it is WALKING DISTANCE to the Van Andel??!! Note the walk back is gradually uphill. A couple that we spoke with during breakfast mentioned they also walked back. The husband said he has a bad knee and felt it a little bit on the return but would definitely do it again. Todd and Skyelar's home is beautiful and bright. We stayed in Room 2 which is also bright yet cozy at the same time. Our room had a Keurig coffee maker which was great! I will just have to remember to bring some tea with us next time as we love our tea. I didn't think to ask for any so I can't fault anyone but myself! The bath products are provided and smell amazing! I actually wrote the name of the brand down as I am going to order some for home. We really appreciated having an extra power strip in the room. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with local products. Cinnamon raisin bread French toast, bacon that was perfectly prepared, fresh fruit, orange juice and hot coffee. I look forward to returning to The Lafayette House!

The Looking Glass Bed and Breakfast was the perfect venue for our four days in Grand Haven MI. The owner, Brian, runs a first class operation in a charming old house, delightfully and comfortably furnished and well suited to our tastes. We had the run of the house and access to all the common areas, including the beautiful front deck with its unobstructed views of Lake Michigan. One thing that needs to be mentioned: the house sits at the top of a steep hill. The only access is to walk up 71 stairs or to take the electrically operated railway car (funicular). Brian has the only one on this side of the hill. Not a bad walk, if you are in shape. Ever the congenial host, Brian bent over backwards to accommodate our group. He was attentive to our needs and eager to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. We were smacking our lips over his delicious breakfasts, served hot and promptly prepared each morning. We were given our own refrigerator space for group meals and he allowed us to hold daily Happy Hour. Enjoying snacks and a glass of wine, we enjoyed the incredible vistas through the wide picture windows, the perfect backdrop for photos. We quickly became captive to the delights of this beach front property. He even gave the okay for a small musical group to come to entertain us on our final night cookout on the deck. When evening chill settled in, we were comfortably ensconced into the commodious living room. At our invitation, he brought his wife and toddler to join us for the meal and the music. Thus we all danced, sang and partied with abandon in the face of a glorious sunset to end a most convivial and memorable vacation.

The staircase from the parking area to the inn is a little daunting, but there's a small funicular that will take you up most of the incline if you'd rather spare your calves. (Accessibility note: All of the guest rooms are on the second floor, so there are stairs regardless.) It would have been nice to have more towels and washcloths stocked in the bathroom, and leaving some lights on in the common areas would be welcome. Brian recommended some excellent dinner spots, and he makes a mean breakfast casserole. We really enjoyed our visit to Grand Haven and are already planning a return trip.

The TV had the option to cast from your personal device, so you are able to stream Netflix/YouTube from the big screen! I had no issues with the wifi during my stay.
