I stayed here this past weekend for a family reunion and was very impressed with everything. The…read moreroom was exceptionally clean and the amenities were decent. Free parking is always a plus and of course, free breakfast was a nice touch. We had some difficulty finding the hotel and the receptionist I spoke with was courteous and gave clear directions. My mom and I fell ill from a restaurant we ate at and actually had to extend our stay before being able to fly home. The staff was very accommodating and made it a seamless experience for us.

However, the furniture sometimes has issues, like dresser drawers randomly opening up. Also, there are no safes in the rooms to lock up your laptop. I have always found the staff to be extremely friendly. That includes front desk, housekeeping, and the person taking care of the free breakfast buffet. On that last point, the buffet is really nice. As with any breakfast buffet, scrambled eggs tend to dry out after a while, but they are quite good if you get them when a new dish comes out. Sometimes, they have mini-omelettes, which I have found to be very good. There is also a pancake machine that turns out great pancakes. There is no restaurant or bar in the hotel, but there is a Mexican restaurant across the street, as well as a coffee place. There is every fast-food chain imaginable on the same road as the hotel. There is also a Chili's that is short drive towards downtown. If you find yourself in or near Hastings, Michigan, you should (1) figure out why you are there; and (2) stay at this hotel.

Oh my goodness, no. This place is a dump! Horribly outdated and smells like stale old cigarette…read moresmoke and mold. The bed is old and uncomfortable and the bedding is old, stained and won't stay on the bed. The light in the bathroom flickers like a horror movie. The water pressure in the shower is awThe air conditioner made loud, wind-like sounds all night. There is graffiti on the towel bar, wall and light fixture. You can't make this stuff up! We pulled out the filters in the air conditioner and they were filthy. The carpet is filthy. Like makes your feet black filthy. The ice maker was broken. There's layers of dust in the coffee maker. I could probably go on forever. The pool and hot tub were drained and out of service "because Covid". They are not serving breakfast "because covid" as well as not cleaning rooms unless requested "because covid". Yet everything is wide open now in MI as well as many other states. And no one in this place wears masks, so how are all these cancelled amenities due to covid restrictions? I'd have sympathy for them if they were conscientious and honestly concerned about covid, but that's not what's going on here. Clearly the ownership has used covid as an excuse to run a disgusting, subpar establishment, avoid cleaning and not make repairs. There's housekeeping carts and other messy equipment all over the hallways. They left the doors to the storage and laundry rooms open and they're a mess. All of the doors to the outside that are supposed to be locked are wide open. An obviously intoxicated man without a shirt was hanging around outside and tried to get my attention when i was in the car. NOPE. I drove off. If I was traveling alone I would not feel safe. We were in town for a wedding and had no other option. We will absolutely, positively not be back. I hope we don't get sick. Update: My fear of contracting something from this gross place was realized. We came home with nasty cases of foot fungus. Just don't go here!!!!

This tasteful bed and breakfast was a delightful place to stay in downtown Grand Rapids!…read more We ran a bit late so the owners called to check on us, which was appreciated. Once we arrived it was easy to call the listed number and get let in, which happened quickly despite our being after the agreed upon arrival time. Skylar then showed us around and left us to enjoy the room. She had their two children with them which was fun and gave the space more of the local family feel. We didn't hear them during the rest of our stay so no worries about late night cries etc. The house is beautiful and our room had a private bath with a huge jacuzzi tub. There was a window ac unit as well as a fan so we stayed comfy at night and even outside fireworks weren't too noticeable. We were a handy 10 minute walk to a multitude of restaurants and cute parks plus the river walk. There was also a parking spot at the house so we could leave the car and not worry as we walked in the city. The breakfast was especially tasty and Skylar made extra effort to accommodate our dietary needs by making something totally different for me (veggie hash with toast and yogurt all vegan). The fruit, juice and coffee for all were tastefully laid out and made for a refreshing breakfast experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would stay here again!

Did I mention it is WALKING DISTANCE to the Van Andel??!! Note the walk back is gradually uphill. A couple that we spoke with during breakfast mentioned they also walked back. The husband said he has a bad knee and felt it a little bit on the return but would definitely do it again. Todd and Skyelar's home is beautiful and bright. We stayed in Room 2 which is also bright yet cozy at the same time. Our room had a Keurig coffee maker which was great! I will just have to remember to bring some tea with us next time as we love our tea. I didn't think to ask for any so I can't fault anyone but myself! The bath products are provided and smell amazing! I actually wrote the name of the brand down as I am going to order some for home. We really appreciated having an extra power strip in the room. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with local products. Cinnamon raisin bread French toast, bacon that was perfectly prepared, fresh fruit, orange juice and hot coffee. I look forward to returning to The Lafayette House!
