I called to check on availability for a two night stay in their cottages... he said he had one left for our dates. When proceeding with booking I told him my service dog would be with me. He said they did not allow pets. I told him my dog was necessary for my disabilty (diabetic alert dog). He did not care- said they did not allow any dogs due to allergies. I told him this was illegal and he needed to accommodate us. He said "aren't there any other options out there for you..what?? He stated they had not allowed dogs for over 30 years and wished me luck and hung up. He has been reported to the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice read more

I have been going to wayside lodge for several years. I just booked a trip for my birthday and they canceled last minute due to "remodeling not being done" They offered me two rentals instead which would have been double the price than the two bedroom cottage I had rented. Owners refused to accommodate us or discount the two cottages even though they were the ones that were canceling on us. Disappointed in their response. read more

Amazing little find along the Oregon Coast in Yachats, OR. We pulled in on a whim at about 8:30pm on a Friday seeing that the Vacancy sign was on. We are so glad we did. Nice little cottage with an oceanview and amazing access to the beach. Will definitely go there again! read more

We were pleasantly surprised by what we found when we checked-in. First of all we arrived just after 12 noon and were accommodated with a no-fuss early check-in. From the outside all the units appear to be typical weather beaten cottages however, the inside of our unit was completely renovated with vertical grain fir trim, hardwood floor and a spacious clean bathroom. In other words, it was spot on. The view is as advertised and the beach is down a short flight of stairs. Only a smidge under 3 miles from Yachats we were close enough to enjoy the amenities of the town. We considered Wayside Resort to be a good vacation value and would stay here again. read more

My daughter and her boyfriend booked here for a break from his chemo treatments. He smoked pot on the deck and they said to go on the beach. No problem. He uses it for his side effect from the chemo. Now they are being kicked out for falsely being accused of smoking in the room!!! They are calling the sheriff on a cancer patient while being slandered. Do not ever stay here. Worst customer relations ever. The view will never make up for this trauma. read more

First off, this is a positive review but there are some negatives. I booked a room in October of 2019, had to cancel at last minute...They were nice enough to give me credit for a future visit. We stayed there last night in unit 4. We stayed in the same cabin 4 years ago. It needed upgrading then and nothing had been done since the last time. The positive is it could sleep 6. There are three beds. Only negative is it wasn't 100% clean and reminded me of a room built in the sixties. Beds were comfortable. Staff was great but I'd avoid unit 4 and stay in the other units which are awesome and modern. Wayside gets a 9 on the 1-10 scale but for this visit I'm giving the room a 6. Please remodel this room. I have been coming to the Wayside Lodge for an extended stay, while on a working vacation for 5 summers now. Up until this year, I have never had to deal much with the management. This year while making my reservations, I was told that renovations would be taking place. I was assured that I 'd have all the amenities as pictured on the web site as the full sized refrigerator and stove is important to me. After driving 1,000 miles I discovered the cottage was still undergoing renovation and had a tiny refrigerator. With no alternative, I made the best of the situation. The resident manager apologized for the condition and asked me to make a list of what was incomplete and missing. At the end of my stay, I conscientiously made this list and sent it to the hotel owner, asking for compensation. His reply was to ignore my documented health and safety issues and misrepresentation of amenities (as discussed and as pictured on their web site) and to tell me that he hoped I enjoyed where ever I stayed in the future. Talk about lack of customer service!! There is nothing warm or cozy about management. BEWARE!!! There were exposed, live wires coming out of the exterior walls outside of the cottage, with no porch light and a 3 foot drop from the deck to the yard - as the stairs had been removed! The vent hood on the malfunctioning stove wasn't fully installed and the exposed fan vented nowhere. The kitchen lacked many of the items I have taken for granted like a pan covers, frying pans, spatulas, small plates etc. But most shocking was the tiny refrigerator with its miniscule freezer so we lost all our frozen food. There were no curtains on the front door or kitchen window, along with no coffee table or living room lamp. Forget about any wall decor or ambience as the new recessed ceiling lights had been installed with glaringly hot outdoor floodlight bulbs. Numerous unconnected switches that nothing. With no light for the front door lock, it was especially tricky to get in at night as the lock was installed backwards! Painting and shelving for the bathroom was incomplete with no place to hang wet towels. A person could get seriously burned if they sat on the toilet while the heater was on!! There was no bureau, closet, suitcase rack, or wall hooks in our cottage, leaving no place to hang your professional clothes or jackets. There is little comfort in spending a week rummaging through a cooler and trying to look professional while rummaging through your suitcase on the floor. read more

I had a very bizarre experience. My husband and I rented the cottage that sleeps 6 because that was all that was available at that time. At the last minute, I invited my friend. At the end of our stay I put all used towels in the bathroom, stripped my bed and wiped down all surfaces. A few weeks later, I received a letter that banned us from coming again. It contained unusual and false accusations. Here is the list: 1. I didn't return the tv remote back to the office, however I put the remote right next to the tv. There wasn't any instructions to return it to the office. 2.We had a stained washcloth. We purchased a berry pie and that got on the washcloth. It's a cottage with a kitchen. I find it hard to believe that no towel or washcloth has EVER been stained. 3. We left "debris" which was crumbs by the kitchenette. However there was no vacuum and also no checklist of "chores". 4. We were accused of taking a comforter outside. Very weird. The comforter in the guest room was dirty so we folded it and put aside. 5. We didn't register our additional guest. That was definitely an honest mistake but when the owner stopped by, he did not say I needed to and at checkout, no mention was made of registering a guest. Apparently, they have a problem with 3 people in a cottage that sleeps 6. 6. We were accused of not recycling. There were 2 recycle bins and we put exactly what was labeled in those bins. We left the cottage, other than vacuuming, almost as clean as when we arrived 7. I had my husband turn in the key an hour early as we were ready to leave. As my friend and I were grabbing our pursed and walking out, a woman came in to clean. The letter stated that we should have been gone and we were still dressing. Technically we had that room another hour. But we were NOT still dressing. this is so strange... The owners have another couple as the main management and I think they were upset with us for reasons unknown. I wrote them back stating the false accusations and strange complaints. I never heard back and I don't expect to. It's unfortunate. But I would call this inept management. read more

Our latest experience with the new managers was not pleasant. My daughter and I have stayed 2-3 times prior and were not subjected to the "new" regulations. Manager were found outside the open bathroom window one morning,apparently to spy on us. We felt like we were more in a prison camp.Honestly. No barbecues allowed,no coolers, no smoking and on and on. The happy times we had will be remembered, but I will never go back. These people were beyond rude.Also, many repairs were needed in and outside on the deck. Railing hanging on by a nail, deck boards loose, gutters rotted out. Back lawn is covered in mole holes so it was very difficult getting to the beach. So save your money and rent one of the cute houses in Yachats! read more

I have come to this place 10 times over the years, traveling 8 hours to get there. It is a nice rustic little place with a great beach. Clean and cute with some of the units remodeled. However I will never come back. The owner refused to send a confirmation email for our stay, so my wife called twice to confirm dates as we were meeting four other groups of family members for a week long stay. Ends up he over booked and kicked us out a day early. Even worse instead of apologizing he YELLED at my wife when she tried to talk to him about it. By the way my wife is always calm and polite in these situations. This guy needs to learn how to take reservations, send confirmations and be polite even under stress. If you want to count on having a room don't stay at the Wayside. read more

Just what I was looking for. Less than three miles from Yachats this little oasis has hit every point. The host was very pleasant, personable and accommodating. In fact, he smoked some extra pork for us. I feel like a priority the small family owned like places. The cottage I stayed in was smaller one bedroom with a kitchenette. Brand new construction or remodel with elegant touches. The price was a steal. Small deck overlooking a large yard with an excellent view of the ocean. Private beach access. There was even an old wooden swing to make you feel like a kid again. Very quiet location and just far enough off the road. read more

This is an amazing lodge! The managers are very kind. We drove up around 9pm and thought it was closed because the lights were off, so we drove back down the driveway and looked for other places to go. As we were sitting at the end of the driveway for a couple minutes looking on the phone, the manager Lyndsey, came out in the RAIN to see if we needed a place. Aside from the fabulous staff, there is private beach access and it is beautiful! They have old vintage cottages available and modern cottages that were very nicely remodeled. They each have a little kitchenette, living area with TV, bedroom, and bathroom. I highly recommend this place!! read more

This place is the best ! So clean and friendly we have stayed here at least 30 times . The owners are wonderful people and the caretakers are the best. Always feels like home here. We have stayed here 4 times through Covid and they really keep things sanitized and clean. They open the rooms to fresh air for a day before they clean and sanitize . It's awesome !! read more

I would give this place no star's if possible. I reserved a cottage back in November. I called several times and spoke with the front desk woman asking to pay my deposit to secure my spot. I was told that I could not do so until the owners were around and later until after the first of the year. Then In February after calling in January to once again pay my deposit I received a voicemail that they were cancelling my stay due to nonpayment of the deposit. I called and explained that I had tried to several times. No apology was given. I gave my card information and paid. Beginning of March I called to verify some of their policies like not being able to cook crab in the cottages (its a damn beach but I cant cook seafood???) . I was informed by the front desk woman ( I will not state her name because she is rude and incompetent) that we would not be able to bring along a much needed service animal due to a no pet policy. I explained that there were state and federal laws which protected our right and that the dog was a medical need. She became very rude again and started to ignore me on the phone eventually demanding a call back number because the owners were out of town and could "deal" with me later. I did not receive a call back for almost a week, after me calling twice to follow-up. When David the owner finally called me he started the conversation very defensively stating that many people had gone to court over service animals. He said that he had friends who faked it to bring their dogs places and we were probably the same. He told me about his brother who was a lawyer and was shouting at me on the phone. I reinforced that it was the law, they had taken my deposit and could not turn me away due to having a service animal. I certainly understand protecting customers with allergies but what about those with serious medical issues? He was so rude and talked over me that I had to ask him to stop speaking to me in this way and lower his voice. I ultimately decided to cancel my stay because I was no longer comfortable. Not that he was giving me the option, he was clear that he did not want us there. The management is trash! Do not come here! I will be following up! read more

My husband and I stayed in Unit 7 and loved the spectacular view. The cottage was spotless and the linens were excellent. The reservation was easy to make and the manager was most pleasant and accommodating. When we arrived she helped us graciously and made sure we were well taken care of. We will definitely stay there again because of the pleasantness of the manager, the cleanliness, the view, and the reasonable rates. read more

This lodge's website has photos that look way more upscale than the offerings are in fact. Just stayed in the Whale Watch suite. The bed is not the bed in the pic on their website, same for the lamps. The kitchenette cabinets have a door hung by Velcro that keeps falling off. All the drawers in the dresser in the bath stick and it has broken shelving. There is any housekeeping. The room stincks of some kind of oil. There is a view of the water but it isn't spectacular and this room is up a flight of rickety stairs that shake and sway upon contact. All the decks look old and abused and need maintenance. The new caretaker has been there only 3 weeks with little orientation. Don't stay here...go to the Overleaf Lodge down the road. read more

Although it is scenic. We were not impressed with customer service. We told the manager on phone when we booked it that we would have 13. Management told us we could only have 10 in the house. So we booked the house and a cottage. We called back a few weeks later to find out what we needed to do for another person that we had joining us. We were told 10 dollars a night for any extra over the 10 in the house. When we arrived there was only sleeping accommodations for 8 in the house. This made for an unpleasant 4 days as we had to rent another place down the road for 3 people. read more

We love this place. It's nothing fancy, but it's ideal. It's right on the ocean in one of the cutest towns I've ever been to. The rooms have kitchens that are just fine for simple things. The prices are so reasonable. The one problem is that the several times we've been, summers for our anniversary, there's always been a different manager. It seems they have someone different each year, but I could be wrong. The only other problem is that we recently got a dog and we wish they allowed pets. We would come back year after year if they did. We love the Wayside Lodge! We've even seen bears on the property. (Maybe we shouldn't bring our dog, now that I think about it!) read more

This is the worst place I've ever stayed at. My parter and I went here for a vacation and we were kicked out and harassed by the terrible owners. My boyfriend has cancer and goes through chemotherapy, he was given permission to smoke on the beach, he has a medical card. We did not smoke in the room, NOT ONCE. The owners came banging on the door, we answered and they accused us of smoking in the room. We told them to come in because we had nothing to hide, they came in, there was no smoke, and they still kicked us out and called us liars. The owner told my boyfriend that his cancer did not matter. They were extremely rude. Oh and the owners were staying in a room right next to ours and they were so loud the whole weekend, they were banging on the walls and yelling at each other. I have never been so disrespected in my life. We packed our bags right away, they threatened to charge us an extra $250 dollars if one thing was wrong in the room. They did not give us for a refund for the last day/last night. The most disrespectful people I have ever met. Will never recommend to anyone. I would give 0 stars if I could. read more

My husband and I stayed in the Captain's Quarters unit and absolutely loved it! It was just as described on the website. The view was fantastic and it was only steps to a wonderful beach. The kitchen was an absolute delight - if anything there were too many pots, utensils, dishes and glassware. Loved having the kitchen window to look out at the ocean while cooking up some great seafood. Also really loved having a dishwasher. The living room area was really comfortable with two large sofas. The dining room table was big enough to have a dinner party if we had wished. Also, the bed was really, really comfortable. Nice bathroom too. The manager was nice but not intrusive and provided some good tips on places to eat in the area. After leaving the Wayside Lodge we moved a short ways up the coast to another place that was a big disappointment - much more expensive and the kitchen left a lot to be desired. We will definitely return to the Wayside on our next trip to the Oregon coast. read more

My husband and I came up from Texas and this is definitely the best kept secret that needs to be shared with others. The rates are more than reasonable for a great on the beach location we couldn't believe it! Also Don who runs it when the owners are not there was super friendly and of great service for anything we needed. Same with the owners they just happened to be in town and they are also wonderful people . They told us how they bought wayside and it was run down in the beginning. I could definitely tell they have put there heart and soul into this and still continuing to make it better everyday. It is great for anyone who wants to stay right on the beach and watch the ocean as you go to sleep and when you wake up. There are so many great things to say about wayside lodge . Can't wait to be back. Also if you don't know what there is to do in yachats just ask them they are more than happy to help . They did for us and we couldn't do everything because there was so much we couldn't believe it! read more
