We've always used McKinley's Marina in Alsea Bay for our crabbing boats and crab pots. The staff is professional, helpful and could not be nicer!!!! When we arrive at our scheduled time, they are ready to kit us out with lifejackets, crabbing boats & crab pots. The boats are fitted with a pulley to help haul in the pots full of Dungeness crab! You need to bring the bait with you (we use raw chicken quarters.) Each boat has room for up to 4 adults (and a couple of kiddos if necessary). We head out just before high tide. It's so much fun! When we get back to the dock, the staff check our crab to make sure we have legal size males (only) and they prep it and steam it right there at the docks. They even have picnic tables for us to feast on our fresh catch. Yes, this park does have a few full -time RV sites, which is not an issue. We've always booked a waterfront, back in site for our stays. The view of Alsea Bay is worth it and we can watch the tides go in and out, as well as watching crabbers coming in with their haul. (They offer boat and equipment rentals for crabbing.) There is a large field on the east side of the property for dry camping and waterfront tent camping. There you'll find a beach volleyball court, a tetherball and a basketball hoop as well. I love the abundance of birds and wildlife in this area. There is a fabulous little Bakery within walking distance of this park; "Pacific Sourdough," positively worth visiting. Great location - within walking distance to the beach, downtown and the bridge.

We're so lucky to have stayed here, was the best night camping we had. The sounds of the waves at night is so nice. Bathrooms are clean, lit, had soap and toilet paper. Nancy also offered us personal use of a couple crab pods. Her humble hospitality was very much appreciated. She treated us like family. The RV Park is quiet and peaceful. The river was very nice to drink morning coffee from and my husband enjoyed a late evening cigar while watching the river. Crabbing was a blast. The RV Park had showers and restrooms which is a huge plus. All in all it was a great time, and we will definitely return. one thing that could make it just a tad better is a kids area. It's a smaller area so I understand that might not be an option. Definitely would recommend this.

There are plenty of activities for families, namely Ripley's Believe it or Not, The Wax Works, Oregon Coast Aquarium, Sea Lion Docks and Yaquina Head Lighthouse. There is plenty of RV Parks for camping and many hotels, motels, B&B's and VRBO rental options. The Historic Bayfront is a great place to walk with shops, museums, restaurants and gorgeous views of the bay and marina. They have plenty of public parking and restrooms available. We've always enjoyed our time here. Would highly recommend.

My review is based only on the Day Use fee system and not on the RV park or moorage. The Port, a…read morepublic agency, has a recently added Day Use fee system applicable to the entire port property at the south beach marina location. The fee is $7/day and is only sold in day long increments (always expiring at midnight) unless you buy a $75 yearly permit. Since this fee is applied to all of the Public port parking at the south beach facility this means it applies to parking by the fishing pier, the non-motorized boat launch area, or anywhere else that you might park to go out on a boat or simply park for a few minutes to walk around. The fee is payable via app on a smart phone as well as one pay kiosk. But while the area is festooned with signs for smartphone payment, from the company that collects the fees, there is no signage to direct you to that kiosk. It's way over on the north end by the boat ramp, and not apparent or visible from most of the parking areas. I feel this fee is exorbitant, unnecessary, and generally implemented in an unfriendly manner for the visiting citizen or tourist.

We have always had our little dog with us and do not leave her in the room when we go out. I'm guessing not all of the guests here follow the same thoughts. I now understand why these places charge to do so. Friends of ours stayed at another place and they wanted double. Coming into our room there was large stains on the carpet. Shame on the folks that allow this to happen with their pets. Soon places will not allow pets at all because of you. Put your dogs in a kennel if you can't control them. Nothing against the hotel we still love coming here.
