The benefit of the site is its proximity to coastal attractions like Sea Lion Caves, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, lighthouses, hikes, Thor's Well, etc. The campground is sandwiched between the road and the ocean. So while you're not more than a few minutes walk from the long sandy beach, you can also hear cars whizzing by. They've got RV sites, tent sites, hiker/biker sites, yurts for rent, and firewood for sale. The campsites had great landscaping/foliage around them to separate them from other sites and protect from wind. Sandy, level ground in the tent sites made for a decent night's rest. Bathroom cleanliness was just okay when I was there, but at least they have flush toilets and hot showers available. The campsite and beach are dog friendly.

Nancy also offered us personal use of a couple crab pods. Her humble hospitality was very much appreciated. She treated us like family. The RV Park is quiet and peaceful. The river was very nice to drink morning coffee from and my husband enjoyed a late evening cigar while watching the river. Crabbing was a blast. The RV Park had showers and restrooms which is a huge plus. All in all it was a great time, and we will definitely return. one thing that could make it just a tad better is a kids area. It's a smaller area so I understand that might not be an option. Definitely would recommend this.

Devils Churn is one of the coolest geological formations I've ever seen…read more As the tide comes in, the waves are concentrated in the basalt chasm (the result of an ancient collapsed lava tube), where they gain speed, ricochet against themselves, creating the "churn" look. It looks like a giant ocean bathtub full of violent butter. The waves splash dozens of feet in the air, filling tide pools on the basalt cliffs, and then cascading back down over the edges in a circular formation of infinite waterfalls. It looks like something you would imagine you would see in Iceland. The churn can be seen from a viewing area close to the parking lot, but it's just a short half mile hike down to the shore. Even though people have been washed out to sea from this site, these people had gone beyond the official trail, into the actual tide pool area above the churn. So, as long as you're on the trail, you're probably safe. I held on to the wooden rail just in case a big wave came, but noticed that the very bottom rung had been washed out. There is enough parking for about twenty cars at the information center, which is staffed by the Forest Service on limited hours/days. Parking is $5 or free with an NPS, Forest Service, or other federal interagency pass. I've actually been here a few times now. Valentine's Day was pretty crowded, and the visitor center was open. I had to leave before high tide, but was mesmerized. So, I ended up coming back during high tide a few days later. At one point, I saw the ocean throw an entire tree onto the ledge-- only to reclaim it a few minutes later. Falling in to the churn would almost certainly result in death. Some of the waves looked like they were going 25mph once they entered the chasm. Plus it's full of huge logs being violently churned around. But just half mile down the trail, there is a calm, serene beach with really pretty rocks. Continuing on, you can actually hike to Thors Well from here. I can't believe I'd never even heard of this place until I stumbled upon it by accident after visiting Thors Well. Personally I actually found the churn more impressive and mesmerizing to watch.

The owners and caretakers do such an incredible job keeping this property clean and maintained. Bathrooms and showers are meticulously cleaned daily. They also have a great mini-mart on premises for forgotten items, such as ice, firewood, and a bottle of decent Pinot Gris! Our site was perfect for our 20 foot trailer and truck. Decent internet enabled us to watch movies on the one mostly rainy day of our stay. There was adequate privacy, plus nearby green space to take our dog. This park is literally a five minute walk to the beach, and a short drive to the quaint, cool, and cute Old Town Florence with lovely restaurants and shops. If you want to get some quick bites and brews within walking distance, Jerry's is just a few minutes away (and the sidewinders are totally worth it!). A big thank you to Heceta Beach RV Park! We're already looking forward to our next visit!

To mine and my fiances suprise when we arrived at our camp their was another family camped in our sote. The reservation date for this camp said "6-29-6-30" so they were not even paid up for the day they eere inhabiting the site. When i knocked on the managers door to simply ask what exactly was going on he immediately gave me attitude and a bs excuse. Proveeded to hand me my belongings he had rolled up behind his trailer and told us to have a nive day. Appatently cannot even camp in my ho e state anymore becauze these voluntaty workers make the rules and dictate them hpwrver tjey please. Sadc

We stayed at this campground a couple weeks ago for the first time and had an excellent experience!…read moreI wasn't sure what to expect with this being the second largest campground in Oregon- would it be overwhelming with so many people, too much noise, etc? I was actually surprised how quiet it was (okay camping in a public campground is never silent but it was pretty moderate noise). The advantage of it being such a large campground too is that they had nice, well-equipped, clean facilities equally spaced out. Showers are free to use, though I didn't while we were there. A cute welcome center in the middle has info, games/books, and ice and firewood to buy and is located right next to a pretty good sized playground for kids. It's also a super dog-friendly place (we brought our 75# boy with us) and everyone there seemed to be mindful of their own dogs with leashes/cleaning up. Honeyman is located close to the heart of Florence and close to lots of recreation activities - dunes, beach, two lakes, etc. We enjoyed a quick walk over to Cleawox Lake each day to play, and rented a paddle boat too! The only downside is that like most Oregon State Park campgrounds you do need to plan quite a bit ahead to reserve your spot online. It's very difficult to get a spot last minute or day of in the busy times (late spring - summer - fall).
