A gorgeous spot on the beautiful Oregon Coast just south of Waldport with spots for tents and RVs and access to an expansive and wide beach

This is a gem of all gems if you get an ocean view spot like we did! Absolutely fabulous! The trail to the beach has just a slight incline so no climbing up and over dunes! This beach does not have many rocks or shells or driftwood. Just a beautiful beach to hangout on! The spot had power and water only. We had NO cellphone here or our WiFi. I could get cell if I walked down to the ocean.

We booked a Bayview site, which was described as on somewhat of a bluff, with amazing views of the bay, the bay bridge, and in the distance, the beautiful Pacific Ocean. I'll include a photo of our non-view of anything except overgrown bushes. As I walked around the campground, I noticed that there are very few sites that allow for any kind of privacy. Many of the back in sites are shared, so that you back in to their back in.

Waldport/Newport KOA - Waldport, OR July 29-30, 2025…read more This KOA is just north of the Alsea Bridge crossing the wide mouth of the Alsea River. Staff were friendly and checkin was simple. We drove to our back-in site and got situated. Our site was supposedly a "Bayview" site. However our site had 8 foot tall bushes and trees behind it that blocked the view. We mentioned that to one of the grounds keepers. Big mistake on our part. For the next two days there was constant gas powered equipment cutting away at the shrubbery outside our camp. They didn't let up until 6:30 pm each day, so there was really no good time to sit outside to enjoy a beverage with no view. Since campers must check out at 11 am and new arrivals can't check in until 2 pm, I suggest they do campsite management between those hours, or other times when those campsites aren't occupied. We could see the view of the Alsea Bridge from our next-door neighbor's site, and I will say the view of the bridge is remarkable.

Yes, this park does have a few full -time RV sites, which is not an issue. We've always booked a waterfront, back in site for our stays. The view of Alsea Bay is worth it and we can watch the tides go in and out, as well as watching crabbers coming in with their haul. (They offer boat and equipment rentals for crabbing.) There is a large field on the east side of the property for dry camping and waterfront tent camping. There you'll find a beach volleyball court, a tetherball and a basketball hoop as well. I love the abundance of birds and wildlife in this area. There is a fabulous little Bakery within walking distance of this park; "Pacific Sourdough," positively worth visiting. Great location - within walking distance to the beach, downtown and the bridge.

Every morning I went to take a shower, there were two lovely Forest Service dressed ladies cleaning the restrooms and showers. They were smiling and pleasant. Yes. Some campers will mess up the restrooms which cannot be helped, but this campground was on it. Our restroom had 8 individual private showers, one was wheelchair accommodating. This park was paved and had well marked trails leading to Dunes, or across a sky bridge to the lake. The Dunes also had a small lake which you could rent Kayaks, paddle boats, and fishing poles. The park had many places for family reunions, or weddings. They also had a boat launch for both lakes, and a dump station. Oh yes! They also had garbage, recycling, and propane can recycling too. There were well marked signs of campsites, and warnings. This place was great!

We saw rangers or volunteers drive by often, and we really liked that. The restrooms were maintained well, except one of the men's shower stalls had a drain that wasn't working. The park had some nice trails and was close to the dunes and the lakes. The only problem with being close to the dunes was the noise early in the morning. But everyone likes to have fun a different way. The boat rentals at the lake were fairly reasonable, I did get a bag of ice, and that was way over priced. I didn't look to see how much wood was though. Overall, I'm definitely coming back and camping here! All of the attendants and rangers were friendly and helpful.

Devils Churn is one of the coolest geological formations I've ever seen…read more As the tide comes in, the waves are concentrated in the basalt chasm (the result of an ancient collapsed lava tube), where they gain speed, ricochet against themselves, creating the "churn" look. It looks like a giant ocean bathtub full of violent butter. The waves splash dozens of feet in the air, filling tide pools on the basalt cliffs, and then cascading back down over the edges in a circular formation of infinite waterfalls. It looks like something you would imagine you would see in Iceland. The churn can be seen from a viewing area close to the parking lot, but it's just a short half mile hike down to the shore. Even though people have been washed out to sea from this site, these people had gone beyond the official trail, into the actual tide pool area above the churn. So, as long as you're on the trail, you're probably safe. I held on to the wooden rail just in case a big wave came, but noticed that the very bottom rung had been washed out. There is enough parking for about twenty cars at the information center, which is staffed by the Forest Service on limited hours/days. Parking is $5 or free with an NPS, Forest Service, or other federal interagency pass. I've actually been here a few times now. Valentine's Day was pretty crowded, and the visitor center was open. I had to leave before high tide, but was mesmerized. So, I ended up coming back during high tide a few days later. At one point, I saw the ocean throw an entire tree onto the ledge-- only to reclaim it a few minutes later. Falling in to the churn would almost certainly result in death. Some of the waves looked like they were going 25mph once they entered the chasm. Plus it's full of huge logs being violently churned around. But just half mile down the trail, there is a calm, serene beach with really pretty rocks. Continuing on, you can actually hike to Thors Well from here. I can't believe I'd never even heard of this place until I stumbled upon it by accident after visiting Thors Well. Personally I actually found the churn more impressive and mesmerizing to watch.
