What a pleasant surprise. As we were making our way down the Oregon Coast, we decided to stop here because it was extremely foggy. Foggy mornings equal great morning walks for me. What we didn't realize was that there was a large campground tucked behind the dunes, because in the dense fog, we couldn't see much of anything. We ended up walking the very secluded beach for several hours until the fog began to lift. The beach is open to everyone, even if you're not camping, and it stretches for miles in both directions with soft sand the entire way. Sometimes those random, unplanned stops end up being the best discoveries. If I ever decide to camp, this is absolutely a place I'd look into. The campground is literally right on the water. And if you're just exploring the beach, there's plenty of free parking all around and no admission fees required. read more

Clean facilities.. 2 steps to a beautiful beach .. nice hosts! Great place to camp. Between 2 great beach towns, Waldport and Yachats.

Beachside State Recreation Site is a few miles south of Waldport, and a little over three hours from Portland with no traffic. The benefit of the site is its proximity to coastal attractions like Sea Lion Caves, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, lighthouses, hikes, Thor's Well, etc. The campground is sandwiched between the road and the ocean. So while you're not more than a few minutes walk from the long sandy beach, you can also hear cars whizzing by. They've got RV sites, tent sites, hiker/biker sites, yurts for rent, and firewood for sale. The campsites had great landscaping/foliage around them to separate them from other sites and protect from wind. Sandy, level ground in the tent sites made for a decent night's rest. Bathroom cleanliness was just okay when I was there, but at least they have flush toilets and hot showers available. The campsite and beach are dog friendly. read more

This is a gem of all gems if you get an ocean view spot like we did! Absolutely fabulous! The trail to the beach has just a slight incline so no climbing up and over dunes! This beach does not have many rocks or shells or driftwood. Just a beautiful beach to hangout on! The spot had power and water only. We had NO cellphone here or our WiFi. I could get cell if I walked down to the ocean. read more

Where has this little slice of heaven been hiding? I am a limited beach traveler, my family has never gone beyond Newport and this was such a cute surprise. Waldport is so small, clean and full of stunning views. The name of this park is no joke, you basically walk about 300 feet from any location in the park and you could be at the beach. If you get an RV space you are literally on the beach. The bathrooms and showers were extremely well-maintained, the camping spaces are pretty close to each other so there's not much privacy but everybody seems pretty respectful so you are gonna have a good time. Everything is very well-maintained, they have recycling centers on site and the camp host are absolutely delightful and full of helpful information. If you're visiting somebody who is camping overnight you can park for free in one of the three spaces around the area. You do not need a parking permit as long as you do not stay overnight. The beach is constantly changing, with each tide so you always have new pools and patterns so every tide is a new chance to explore! I don't know what these little things are called but they look like weird crabs with chubby shells and when the waves combined there were literally hundreds of them in the water and we got to watch them all digging at the sand trying to hide themselves, it was the best experience I've ever had with my teens at the beach. I can't wait to come back! They do have a 2 yurts available for rent and those are on a cul-de-sac so if you're able to get both that would be ideal for any group situation. read more

My first experience camping at the Oregon coast was a fun one. Beachside State Park is in Waldport about 20 miles out of Newport. About 3 hours and 15 minutes from Portland. The camp site is really affordable and pretty spacious for the price. One site can fit in 2 tents and 2 cars to park back to back. They have big park table with bench and if you forgot your fire woods, they sell it there for only $4. They have A CLEAN restroom with CLEAN toilets, plenty of toilet papers, and CLEAN showers. It was a pleasant surprise and I couldn't resist not to take a shower on the last day of our trip. I know I know, when you are going camping you supposed to soak in the experience and that's including smell like firewood and B.O. The best part about this site is, you can stumble to the beach. It didn't even take 2 minutes to walk down there. I will go back to Beachside, someday, when I need my fix for warm Oregon coast sands and cool Oregon coast weather. read more

This is a campground maintained by the state of Oregon as part of the state parks program. There is also a day use area to the right of the entrance with toilets that have running water. The campground has three kinds of lodging - there are "tent" sites with no electricity on-site, there are RV/tent sites with electric hookups and there are yurts. My family originally chose this campground because it has flush toilets, hot water, and showers available. Employees and volunteers work to clean these up daily. They get a bit grimy because everyone is on the beach! That is probably the best amenity about this park - you can walk a short distance from your site and be right on a large public beach. When we were there, some people were flying large kites and of course there were the tides to watch. We also could hear the ocean waves as we went to sleep, which is one of the nicest things. This campground is not open year-round, so look at the Oregon State Parks Website for more information. This campground is very popular it seems, with sites frequently reserved on weekends. My family stayed Tuesday-Friday and almost every site had a tag noting a weekend reservation. There is a three day limit. Yurts are available which have heat, their own bathroom as well as electricity and some comforts of home. You would have to bring your own electronic devices and your own 'bed linens' - whether sleeping bags or sheets and pillows. read more

spent four night in an ocean front site with the family. This is a great State Park and was very clean, although we stayed in our rv, the bathroom/showers were always super clean. It was also close enough that we went to the Alsea Bridge interpretation center in Waldport. The kids really enjoyed it and it was free. read more

Beachside State Recreation Site - Path to beach next to site 72 - Parks Near Me - Waldport, Oregon

This was our favorite campsite until today. We paid for a site and registered correctly, only to find out later on in the evening that someone had supposedly 'paid for it before us' although they neither tagged the site or left any belongings or indicated that the site was taken--despite instructions by park staff to do otherwise. After involving the ranger and forcing us to leave we were offered a substandard 'walk in' campsite that was completely inadequate for our needs. I certainly hope that future that they address this type of issue with a policy that won't inconvenience campers and ruin holidays. read more

Small and quiet campsite right next to the beach.. (just as its name suggests..) I went camping there and the campsite was clean, had nice showers with free hot water, and had great access to the beach - within a minute walking. HWY 1 is running right next to it so you may want to avoid the sites that are right next to the freeway. Make sure to check it if you are a light sleeper and sensitive to noise during sleep. Running water is provided at many places in the campsite and they sell firewood for $5. I bought one from SafeWay and one from the campsite and it lasted for a good portion of the night. So if you are staying there for multiple nights, make sure you plan accordingly. Fire pit and picnic table for each site, we had everything we needed. It was little far from Portland but it was well worth the drive. read more

Very nice campsite! Volunteers / park employees were very friendly. You can buy a bundle of firewood for $5.00 until 8pm. We were having a little bit of trouble starting a fire our first night there because we didn't have much kindling and they were nice enough to give us a fire-starter at no cost. Our campsites were one of "those" sites where you could actually see see Hwy 101 from our tent. During the day? Sure, it's a little noisy. It's a pretty busy highway, especially in the summer. However, at night I honestly do not recall being bothered at all by the proximity to the highway. There are middle campsites that are farther away from the road if you're a light sleeper. But even being so close to Hwy 101, I could still hear the ocean from our tent. You really are that close to the beach! And the beach itself is a really lovely one. Big and open and not crowded. Clean sites. Clean bathrooms. Clean (and hot) showers! We had a wonderful experience camping here. read more

Stayed here for a night in June 2013 while on a motorcycling trip to Moab, UT. We arrived on a Friday evening and there were not many sites left. We ended up with a spot on the hwy side, so it got pretty loud whenever traffic, especially big rigs, drove by. Our site had a fire pit which was great at night and in the morning for heat. Great bathroom/shower facilities. Lovely sunset on beach. There was a foot wash station that was very handy. read more

We arrived at this campground mid-week in the middle of June without a reservation and there were a number of sites available. We ended up in #3, which was fairly private but relatively far from beach access. (Many sites are very close to an access path.) Road noise was less of an issue than I expected, but I expected it to be atrocious given how close the highway is. Supposedly site #63 is the most requested campsite in the entire Oregon state park system. It certainly is well situated, but is an electrical site and is therefore slightly more expensive. Unfortunately most of the beachfront sites are electric and designed for RVs, leaving tents up closer to the road. This seems backward given that RVs are far more soundproof than tents. Site #9 seemed to be the best tent site and is where I would stay in the future, although again it's much closer to the road than the electrical sites and I suspect you probably can't hear the surf. Note that there are numerous campgrounds along this stretch of coast in the National Forest and other state parks. However I don't know if any others are this close to being on the beach. read more

This campsite was clean, quiet and a 1-2 minute walk to the beach. We came on the last weekend of the season. This time of year the middle of the campground, a few sites, flooded because of 3+ inches of rain in one day. So they relocated a couple of people to other open sites, by the next day it was all dried up. We had site 76, did not get flooded... it was pretty private, no direct beach view but it didn't matter, we could hear the ocean all night, it was great. At our site we did not have cell service (a bonus for us) we could get service when standing in the site on the other side of the bathroom near the hwy. We did this once or twice to look up restaurants and a dump station. There is no dump station at the campground. We found a FREE dump station in Newport, hit that up on the way home. The one campground host John was super cool and very nice. Bathrooms were clean. Firewood sold in the campground. We will be back for sure. read more
