I recommend Wayside for all gardening needs. Last year I purchased plants from Wayside and other garden centers. The plants from Wayside are healthier and have filled out. The staff is super helpful and there are many people to help that are knowledgeable. If they don't have the answer they will get it! Yesterday Ashley was awesome! I purchased all of my plants using a $20 off coupon for May and then June too. Their prices are good and their plants are great! Such a variety too! My friend and I went for our first visit. We saw your advertising on Facebook. I was amazed the collection of house plants, plant containers, and the very large colorful assortment of flowers and early cold weather vegetables. Staff was right there to answer questions and when we couldn't locate a certain plant, they were brought to us. As the weather gets warmer, we will be back. read more

They have a nice selection. The perennial section is impressive. Most of the staff is quite friendly and helpful. On the negative: The prices on many items have skyrocketed. I understand inflation and all but their prices have outpaced inflation. Not everything is expensive but some items are shockingly over priced. More recently, there is a newer employee working at the cash register area. She's and older woman and she's rude and unpleasant. I've spent a lot money there and she's always unpleasant to me. A few days ago, we decided to get a live Christmas tree. We got a small balsam fir there last year which we liked. We found a similar one this year. We were having a great conversation who,e checking out with one nice woman. She was surprised when we told her we got a live tree last year and kept it inside for several weeks. She wasn't rude about it but they apparently suggest not keeping a live tree inside for more than a week. I've been gardening for 20 years and I know what I'm doing. If a live tree is carefully cared for, it can be safely keep inside for a few weeks. Well, the rude older woman shows up apparently having been lurking and eavesdropping on the conversation. She never once addressed us personally but shoved a flyer at us stating their nonsense recommendations about only keeping a live tree inside for a week and not leaving it outside etc. Again, I know what Irma doing and don't need a flyer shoved straight me. It was very demeaning. Then the grumpy older woman turns to address the person ringing us up and tells her there's no guarantee for plants they sell that time of year. It was just so rude. We already knew the plant wasn't guaranteed. It was just a lousy customer service experience when it had started out so enjoyable. As much as I enjoy aspects of Wayside, I'm done shopping there until that rude older woman isn't there anymore. She is just awful to deal with. read more

I recently purchased sunpatients from wayside at 14.99 each. I covered them at night due to the temperature. They have not faired well. I called as I assumed all plants were guaranteed from Wayside. I was told they were not guaranteed and they were not able to be refunded. I was told I needed to be aware of temperatures as they have signs posted everywhere at the garden center. I did not see any signs while shopping. Why would they be selling plants that were not safe to plant outside at this time of year. I took adequate precautions with them by covering them at night. I am now left with 2 dead plants and out 60 dollars. I will now be shopping at Lowe's and/or Walmart for plants. I could have bought a cart full of plants for $60 at either Lowe's or Walmart. I will also alert my friends to do the same. Disappointed. read more

I bought supposably Big Max pumpkins that would be 30 lbs to 100 lbs and have many small pumpkins all under 5 lbs. They are not growing at all anymore. Very unhappy, pumpkin palooza is a family event for ten years. We will now have to purchase $300 more for pumpkins. read more

Huge and massive garden center. You have to frequent it for that occasional gem. Mostly generic and common plants. The staff are always helpful and available. You will need their guidance if you come to Wayside looking for a specific plant. This place is huge. read more

If I could give a zero I would. Dawn was the most disrespectful person claiming to be a professional ever. Broken product seemed to personally offend her as she claimed "no one's ever returned this before" so it was my fault. I bought two identical products. One worked perfectly, the other was defective. Do not try to return a defective product or you will be treated like a criminal trying to pull one over on "Dawn" who also claimed she is THE manager and no one else was in charge over her so my boyfriend and I could not get this properly resolved as she tampered with my product exchange, in the most baffling excuse I've ever heard. I ran a local Fairport Nursery from 2010-2014, I never treated a customer like that. I also know you dont rip off the calcium protective sheeting off solar products...like Dawn did in front of me. How she manages anything is beyond me. Just because you overprice your defective product doesn't mean you berate a customer over it when they want their money's value. So disappointed in Dawns representation of Wayside... how disgustingly unprofessional. Consider shopping elsewhere, there's plenty of garden shops around Rochester, people! read more

Dead trees and nasty people. I went back to return two cherry trees that died soon after I planted them. I had to argue with the owner about it and he was not very friendly. Then finally he agreed to refund the money. The lady at the cash register was nasty about it as well. read more

I hired Wayside to do a back patio, front stone entryway, gardens around the house and rock raking my yard and putting hydroseed on it. I would attach pictures but I'm a little private. I have to say that they worked extremely hard and the Bill Teamerson team was fantastic. I would recommend them to anyone. bill has some kind of fancy Awards and we'll put together a drawing of what your house will look like after he is done. It's pretty cool. Best in the business and came highly recommended from my friends at Miller Brick. They should know! read more

Fantastic selection with reasonable prices. Stopped in here to pick up a hanging basket for Mother's Day and had about 400 to chose from. The selection of indoor/outdoor plants was phenomenal. The bush and tree selection was better than average. I only wish I had room in my car to get things back to Ohio. I highly recommend stopping here for landscaping ideas. read more

Always my go to for all my flowering needs. However I just returned from there with there ad stating "Flowering Hanging Plants regularity $24.99 on sale for $19.99 " When I checked out with 3 ... I was charged $24.99 each. When I inquired about the sale price, I was told it was only on select plants.... they should have said that in their ad. I call that False Advertising. First time I've been disappointed there. Update .... Just called Wayside and The credited my account ...and restored my faith in them. read more

Great selection and knowledgeable staff. I find they often beat the big box Lowes across the way as far as price and the advice is better and free. I go here for all of my shade plants as they have a great selection. The oriental garden supply in Bloomfield is a bit more unique but Wayside meets 95% of what I would be seeking anyway. Wayside has some of the best selection of plants I have ever seen. An entire pergula of hosta, a greenhouse of shade plants including natives and huchera, excellent iris selection and of course annuals. Honestly if you can't find it here it probably isn't worth growing. Prices are decent - can't get much for a steal but they are more than fair - esp for the harder to find varieties. Staff is super friendly and very knowledgable - I believe many master gardeners work here. We will be back! read more

Visited and purchased at Wayside for years. Tried to return a dead plant and they gave us a hard time even though we had receipt. After waiting for a long time and getting the manager, Carol, we received a replacement or so we thought. The manager whispered something in the cashier's ear and sure enough when we got home we saw on the receipt they actually charged us again for the replacement! Checkout girls at the cash register don't know anything about the plants or flowers have to wait around for someone with more knowledge to assist. Not impressed. read more

I don't understand the poor reviews. Wayside has an amazing selection and the folks that work there have always been knowledgeable, helpful and patient. They are not the cheapest but the quality and care they take with their plants is worth it. I've purchased house plants, urns, tools, perennials, shrubs over the last 2 years and no disappointments so far. I've shopped the competition in the Rochester area and keep coming back! I also like supporting local businesses instead of the big box retailers. Well worth the drive out to Macedon. I strongly recommend them because they've never given me a reason not too. A word about supporting local businesses. Get to know the people who work at them. Introduce yourself and ask them how they are. Take a few minutes out of your day and you'll be rewarded every time. Tell them what you are looking for and let them guide you with their expertise. If you want a transactional experience shop the chains. If you want to have a better experience get your face out of your phone and show some respect for retail workers. read more

This place is not deserving of one star but I had to make a star selection. I feel I need to warn landscape shoppers of this place. I had the worst customer service experience in my life at Wayside Garden Center located at 124 Pittsford-Palmyra Rd in Macedon, NY. Their return policy is that if you purchase a perennial, you may return the dead plant to them within a year for a new plant of equal value. So the last plant I purchased from them died and I brought it back. I showed the manager, Carol all the receipts I had and said that I have purchased 4 plants from them all of which had died - none had lasted over a year and that every year I have brought back the dead plant to them per their policy. I had asked Carol rather than having me come back every year could I possibly get a cash refund. She told me that they "don't deal with cash" and that since all the plants I have purchased from Wayside Garden Center have died, I must be "putting poison on them". I told her that I have not been doing that and that I have had success with plants from such places as Bristol. Her reply was "well then go back there". She had told be that only 1% of their customer who has ever used their refund policy and that their plants "don't die". When I had told her that some of the plants had actually only lasted a few days she proceeded to call me "a liar". I then said O.K. since I can't get a cash refund, I will take the plant for equal value for the one that died, that I had brought in and she said "Well now, I don't want to give it you." After much persuasion on my part, she agreed to go out back and pick me out one of equal value. She took 20 minutes and gave me the most bug infested plant I had ever seen. All the leaves had holes in them from being eaten by bugs. She wrote on my receipt NO MORE GUARANTEED REFUNDS and told me "TO HAVE A NICE LIFE!!!" I will not be shopping there again and I am telling everyone I know about their horrible customer service. read more
