SUCH a gorgeous shop filled with treasures! Any new plant baby you're hoping to acquire can be purchased here at Stem. The space is inviting and houses a huge variety of rare houseplants, and the owners are happy to share their huge breadth of knowledge on each one! Stem is nestled right next to Sinful Sweets on Alexander, making it easy to stop for cupcakes AND a plant if you want to have a particularly great day. I parked on Park but there's also ample parking on Alexander or any of the side streets. Prices seem reasonable considering you are also getting access to help with your plant and things that are REALLY hard to find other places around town. If you're a veteran plant parent or looking to learn more/start a plant family - this is the spot for you! read more

A new boutique plant shop located next to Sinful Sweets. Currently the main entrance is from the front of the building with a few stairs, however there is a second door leading to the entrance of Sinful Sweets. Stem is a small plant boutique, per their social media that will focus on rare and unusual plants. Based upon what I've seen a majority of this plants can be considered rare however can be located at other stores. Prices on plants will vary, ranging from $10 - over $100. All the plants appear to be in good condition and most surfaces are packed with a variety of plants. I appreciate that plant name and price was clearly printed on each plant. Aside from plants you will find a few odds an ends, moss balls in little jars, jewelry such as earrings, key chains, a few small pots and trellises. Overall it was a pleasant experience, I bought a plant that I was eyeing and found it for a good price. My only qualm was that for being such a small space the person working was not keeping tabs on the number of customers in the store and based upon covid restrictions it was a tad too crowded. From what I saw (a portion of the shop was closed in preparation for a photo shoot, so I was told), the shop is cute enough... and the boutique setup was fine. That said, I wasn't especially impressed with the "rare and exotic" selection... and what I did find (both more exotic and non) didn't seem especially great quality. A LOT of the plants I looked at had browning, spots, eaten bits, or looked otherwise wilted or unhappy. There was only one employee in the store during the time I was in there, and she wasn't especially helpful when answering the couple questions I asked... gave off the "I can't be bothered" kind of vibe, and when she WAS at the cash register? She looked utterly bored by waiting for me to finish looking around (which is always so odd to me... I'm here to give the store business. Don't you WANT me looking around and trying to spend as much money as possible?). I had been fully prepared to come into this store and spend a *good* amount of money on plants... but the experience felt so "meh" and uninviting that I legit just bought a red prayer plant on sale for $3 (it was cute and the best quality plant of the unhealthy looking "sale selection" plants) and a Brazil Philodendron because it was on my wishlist (and buying from Stem was probably cheaper than buying from Etsy and having one shipped - since they're pretty readily available plants). TL;DR Would I come back? No. The plant selection didn't impress me, nor did the service... and I can find plenty of boutique-y or otherwise fun, local plant stores around with much better of both. read more

Very uncomfortable feeling upon entry. Not welcoming. Plants seemed ok. Prices were ok to ridiculous which isn't too unusual. Had questions and took forever for the staff to stop the shit talk they were in the middle of. Help was unhelpful and I then realized it was the owner: rude, demeaning and condescending. Meh. If you want overpriced plants then this is your store. Owner and staff were pretentious and did not acknowledge my existence. They just gossip with each other the entire time I was in the store. Some of the plants didn't look in great shape. Street parking only. read more

Very cool little shop. There are some very pricey more rare finds, and frankly, many of the plants $25 and under are marked up quite a bit as well. However, it is a friendly little spot and has a lot of various succulents and potted plants. I got a few on sale that looked much worse for wear, but for the sale price it's worth giving them a chance to be revived. The chameleon was very curious and fun to see there as well. We'll be back for sure. read more

Great plant nursery and I've always been able to find most plants I wanted here, including many exotic succulents. The plants are always healthy and full and I've never had any problems with pests either. Finding where to park can be difficult depending on the time of day read more

Have visited Stem a few times and have had a positive experience each time. I appreciate that they offer accessibility to Q & A via call, text, or DM on their social media if you have questions. In store, each of the employees I spoke with Rachel and Corinne were helpful, able to answer my questions, and let me "browse peacefully." While I'm not a "rare & exotic" expert, the varieties stocked are continuously changing and their stock is decent with variety based on your skill, commitment, and light. Price points vary based on plant--great flash sales posted via their social media (scooped a blooming radiator plant for $1 A few tiny details that set my experience apart--all plants that are pet-friendly are marked with paw stickers (taking the guess work out of gifting to friends with pets). They also offer a repotting service. If you have a large plant that's too intimidating, they offer a drop-off/pick up for large plants--recommended Saturdays and Wednesdays for repotting these size plants). read more

The owner is rude and unwelcoming. Plant selection is okay. It does not look like much thought was put into the aesthetic of the store. It's not a "cute" or "boutique" shopping experience, so I don't understand why the owner acts so elitist. I would rather pay shipping fees and order rare plants from Etsy, or Steve's Leaves. read more

I absolutely do not recommend this establishment. Owner is very rude and is well known for shaming less well-do customers. I was warned by multiple people not to support this business and I regret not heeding to their advice. My visit was my first and last. Will not recommend. read more

I've only got a few plants and the watering spray thingy but I loved the environment and the plants are healthy and well they had a large number of plants and even some pots the prices aren't too overpriced overall I loved it and will be coming back now that it's plant season :) read more
