    Thin crust Sausage pizza
    Catherine P.

Apparently I cannot read an invitation to a kid birthday party. My husband I were on our way to my nephew's 12th birthday party but we were more than an hour early so I jumped on Yelp to see what was nearby and not being from the area, I didn't know what we would find. I asked him if he felt like some ice cream and he perked up like....well, like a 12 year old boy! We drove right past this place, thanks iPhone maps for your fantastic services! We pulled in to a strip mall that has obviously been here for-EVER! A little run down but in a charming way. When we walked in, we noticed a lot of people eating pizza and no one eating ice cream so we split a lunch special which included two (2) slices of pizza and a small drink for $5. All they had was sausage left, so we each got a slice of sausage pizza. It was good. I loved the thin crust and noticed many, many pizzas leaving the place in the short time we were there so it's obviously a local favorite. We went into the larger dining area near the ice cream cases to find a lot of the tables were kinda dirty. We chose the cleanest one we could find and parked it. We were just trying to kill a little bit of time, so this was the perfect spot. That, and neither of us had eaten that day so a little something in our tummies was ideal. Being a hot August day and there wasn't any AC in this place, we ate and left. Skipped the frozen treats but next time we're in the area, I definitely would like to try out a scoop. It's a shame it's not closer to home because I could go for another slice of their pie!

Ton of Beef on the sandwich!

Our go to is always the Malnati classic, and we get it uncut and cut it ourselves because the flavors and crust just taste so much better! Can't go wrong with the Malnati salad and wings either. The buffalo sauce on the wings give just the right amount of kick where it's not too overwhelming but enough to make you grab another. Always a dinner rotation in our home!

Ok, let's run it back. It's been a while and things have been much better here. Lou Malnati's, or…read moreLous to those of us who swear by these pies, is for my money the best Chicago deep dish pizza. It's the standard to be met. It's the bar. When I was younger, me and my friend would each order our own large and see who could stomach the most. It was a test of manhood. The nostalgia runs deep for this pizza. On that note, I'm glad to say that this take out only location has been very consistent lately. Perfect pie every time. And they are BUSY most of the time. Staff are always very friendly and my orders have mostly been ready on time, with no more than a 5 minute wait over. I want it hot and fresh anyway so no complaints here. I like The Lou, the extra tomatoes and the spinach garlic mix is so good. Get your pizza Uncut and cut it yourself! Do this and you pie will make it home in one, delicious piece. Otherwise it just doesn't travel well. That's a pro-tip from a Lous lifer.

It isn't flashy, it isn't loud, and it doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is: a place that consistently serves excellent food at fair prices. In the Lakes region--where Italian options can feel uneven--this spot rises confidently to the top. On my most recent visit, I was seated immediately at a corner table, a small but meaningful luxury in an age of hour-long waits. The dining room, typically hushed enough for actual conversation, again delivered one of its underrated pleasures: a peaceful meal without the intrusive din that plagues so many suburban restaurants. Service followed suit--friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to help, never hovering or rushing. The kitchen remains the star. My spaghetti with vodka sauce was outstanding--rich, balanced, and among the best renditions I've had anywhere in the region. Other entrées at the table echoed the same strengths: sauces with clarity and depth, pastas cooked with confident restraint, portions generous without tipping into excess. Cocktails, too, arrived promptly and properly mixed, further reinforcing the sense of a kitchen-and-bar team that takes pride in their craft. If there is a shortfall, it lies in the ambiance. The room carries a certain charm, but the décor feels a step behind the quality of the food. A refresh of tables, finishes, and overall presentation would elevate the experience from very good to genuinely special. The warmth is there--the aesthetics simply haven't caught up yet. Even so, the value proposition is undeniable. For reliably excellent Italian cuisine, low noise, easy seating, earnest service, and honest pricing, this restaurant more than earns its "highly recommended" status. It is, in every meaningful way, Lake Villa's little culinary treasure.
