I built a Wayne home last year after reading all the reviews, both good and bad. I am happy with my home, but extremely unhappy with the warranty process as they don't follow up or come through. I have been calling for MONTHS about a window that leaks water and is causing damage inside my home and they keep telling me how sorry they are to hear this and someone will be in touch in a couple of days. Guess what, another month has gone by and nothing. After blowing a gasket a few months ago and threatening to show up at the main office, the regional building manager called and showed up to go over everything and assured me he would be back in touch, that was in February and has not followed through and gotten back with me. My overhead garage door has fallen off the track twice this winter, once I had to have a company come out and reinstall it since they couldn't get someone out for a couple of days. The door leaks water and wind so bad, during the winter months it has actually frozen shut and I have been unable to get the door open for days. Regional building manager was supposed to get in touch with the company and get us an upgraded door but again, no response. For the amount of money I have spent on a "Custom Built home" and $40,000 in upgrades, nobody seems to care about their customers after the sale is done. my house is situated on 6.5 acres is ready to be developed into 5 additional build lots with two of these lots belonging to my daughters for their homes. I do like my Wayne home but definitely time to check out other builders. read more

So, it's been 3+ years since we built and moved into our Wayne Home. When we first built the house we drove everyone crazy saying how much we loved the house, the design team, the build team, and everyone at Wayne Homes. Their response was frequently "Yes, you love it now. Give it a year or two and that will change." My brother, who had built years previously with someone else was especially skeptical of the 2 year Fit & Finish guarantee. His feeling was that getting it honored would never happen. Well, it has. There is nothing that we have asked to have taken care of that hasn't been taken care of. From little things to big. You make a call or send an email and there is usually a call to schedule a repair within a day or two and fixed within a matter of days. And when you call, you get a Real Live Person! Not a phone tree from Hell. Not a machine asking you to leave a message and we'll get back to you at our convenience. A real, friendly, pleasant to talk to human. They call it the "Wayne Homes Family". And that's what it feels like. People who care about what is happening and how to make it right. They take it to heart when there is a problem and do all that they can to fix it. Would I recommend them to family? I have. Would I recommend them to friends? I have many times and will continue to do so. Would I build with them again? No one else. Our only regrets are that we didn't have them do more, instead of thinking that we would finish that basement on our own, etc. Dealing with contractors who don't call back or don't understand or keep a schedule is more frustrating after dealing with the Wayne Home team. You become spoiled into thinking that you matter to the contractor. Our advice to prospective home buyers/builders: - Be thoughtful of how you are going to actually use the space versus how it looks on a floorplan and discuss that with the design team. They have great ideas and lots of experience. You'd be amazed at what's possible if you ask. - Be aware that as long as the basic space it there you can add to it or improve it later. That said, keep in mind that you might be better off having Wayne Homes do it from the start. Sometimes it's better to stretch the budget a little and get it done right from the start. - Be honest with yourself. It's easy to say that you will finish it later. But will you? And will you be happy with it the way you are planning it? Will you really have the time, money, know-how, energy, etc to do that project on your own later or are you better off, as said above, stretching the budget in the beginning so you have it done right and don't have to bust the budget later to add something. You'd be surprised how fast you settle in and your new home feels like "HOME" and you just don't have the same drive to do projects. And finding outside contractors can not only be expensive but frustrating. - Trust your team. Keep a notebook with questions and ask them! They will either know the answer or will be able to find them. They are great that way! - Know your minimum needs and minimum upgrades. Know your preferred upgrades and your "ooh if only..." Start there. Not a plain box. You aren't going to be happy in a plain box so don't fool yourself. What's a must and what's a maybe and what's probably out of budget but worth asking about. (Hint: It's mostly worth asking about at the least.) - Go ahead. Compare. It'll make you more comfortable that you made the right choice for you. I spent years doing it. And dollar per square foot, bang for buck, the warranty, every aspect, Wayne Homes came up on top. And stayed there. Others may look less expensive, initially, but once you add in what others call extras and Wayne Homes calls standard, ie basement, garage, porch, the others are usually so far over it's ridiculous. So don't compare base rates. Compare homes. - Check with others who have built. What do they think a year later? Two to three years later? Ten? I've talked to others who have built with other contractors and are nowhere near as happy with their home as we are with ours. - Check with people who have bought second hand. My niece has a Wayne Home she bought from someone who had to move. She loves hers too! I recently spoke with a lady who had built a Wayne Home years ago. She had to move out of state for a while and was planning to move back. She was looking at our lot to build another Wayne Home, until she found a Wayne Home already built. - Anyone who promises you no problems when building a home is lying or delusional. Stuff breaks. Stuff settles. And stuff happens. And the Wayne Homes staff, after 3+ years, still care that it gets made right. People come back to Wayne Homes. That says something when it's the largest purchase you'll make. We trust you enough to do it again. So, basically, I'm still, after 3 years, driving people crazy telling them to go with a Wayne Home. Wayne Homes was outstanding to work with. This was our first home we built so we had a lot of questions before we broke ground. They were very patient and kind in answering our questions and helping us out. Everybody in the company is super nice and friendly to deal with. We completely love our home. The personnel at Wayne Homes were excellent to work with. They made the home building process easy with very little stress. They were very knowledgeable making numerous changes to make sure we got the house we wanted. The site supervisor made several excellent suggestions and made sure everything was done the way we wanted it. He took care of the little things. Wayne Homes has an excellent warranty with a great staff. This is the fourth house we built and I would recommend Wayne Homes to anyone who wants it done right. The best part of building was when we were done and the bank sent out the appraiser, the house was worth $40,000.00 more than what we paid to have it built. read more
