This is a smaller adult oriented studio that offers both group and private ballroom instruction for both social and competitive dancers (not so much standard though). I've seen group classes but not personally taken them and people look like they're having fun. They also do seasonal showcases for people interested in performing without the pressure of competition. The studio itself is L shaped with several walls of mirrors and is fine for latin and social dancing. It's not a great space if you need to practice full on ballroom routines on a normal sized competitive floor (this comment is geared mainly towards s/s dancers) because there isn't the square footage you might need. The studio instructors who I don't know already or am not taking lesson with usually ignore me- they're not unfriendly but they don't say hi either. Social dances are not crowded, and the last time I went there was a relatively high girl to guy ratio- but snacks and drinks were included, yay.

I have been…read moredancing swing for nearly ten years and ballroom for six years, I have taken lessons from national and international champions, I am a certified teacher in my own right, and let me say no one else has provided instruction of such high quality as I have received here. The instructors, in addition to being accomplished dancers themselves, have a phenomenal understanding of the teaching process and produce consistently outstanding results among their students. The past few months I have been at the Academy have produced some of the best growth I have ever experienced as a dancer. That said, there are three downsides. The first is that the lessons are the most expensive of any studio in Philadelphia (though they are well worth the price). Second, the group classes are often at inconvenient times and focus on a very narrow range of dances. Third, the parties are rarely attended by the school's better dancers and are seriously weighted towards inexperienced women, with very, very few unattached men in attendance. None of these downsides, however, has even remotely dissuaded me from taking lessons here, and I highly recommend you do the same.

He's quite friendly and we talked about Ballroom dancing, and I even got a Free lesson with one of his students! I truly love the Collegeville Fred Astaire studio, its teachers, and I look forward to going to their fun "dance parties", where I can dance all night long! (And, no I don't need a "dance partner". I just dance with anyone and it's a real blast! You can show up by yourself.) And, after talking with Roman, he started having Swing dances that I run, so it doubles the fun! I'm saying that as a 25+ year dancer... Roman and his Collegeville Ballroom have the BEST lessons and the best VALUE for you, too. Totally recommended!

Her teaching methodology is most conducive to learning and retaining new material in private lessons and group classes. She also provides flexibility with my busy work schedule and teaches in multiple locations including but not limited to King of Prussia, Norristown, Blue Bell, and Phoenixville. We have danced with other instructors at different studios in Southeast PA and out of state; Karmina is clearly the best. From ballroom to club dancing, Karmina teaches it all at a very reasonable price.

When the scheduled appointment got closer, I never received confirmation so the morning of, I called to make sure everything was still a go. The studio had told me they accidentally double booked the time they scheduled my fiancé and I for and we would need to reschedule (no biggie). As the rescheduled appointment approached, I called again proactively to make sure the appointment was still taking place and they asked me to reschedule again as the teacher was sick. The third time the appointment was rescheduled (I had to move it out a few days because something with work came up), and I AGAIN called myself the afternoon of the appointment to make sure things were finally a go for that evening, and the person who answered said they double booked our time slot for the THIRD time and that we could join the group class but there was no time for our scheduled individual lesson. I was really looking forward to going to this studio for our lesson but after the third time they messed up their scheduling, I cancelled for good and am taking my business elsewhere. From the get go, I felt very uneasy to hand over my 4 year old and have a door locked and have no clue where she is taken to and what is happening to her. No video feed, no window viewing...nothing...Just hope for the best. Facility is attached to a church with possible inner access to dance studios, which also not something I was keen on. Then my 4 year old told me she fell in class and it still hurt. They never said a word about it, and when I made inquiry they brushed it off as it was nothing. They made an effort and posted 1 (ONE!) class on a zoom link recently. During zoom broadcast I saw my daughter being placed right next to some metal tripping hazards and another girl placed pretty close to her. Teacher instructed them to skip sideways, thus girl next to my daughter was crowding out my child into the danger zone. Teacher never even noticed, let alone take remedial measures. They also emailed me my child was not following their strict dress code. I replied we did everything by the book and inquired to point out what we did wrong. They never answered my question and informed me that they un-enrolled us and won't charge next month's tuition. Verdict: Waste of money and energy and added anxiety. My child did enjoy the dancing portion (hence the 2 stars instead of 1), but she did not enjoy getting hurt, nor waiting outside in frigid cold weather while they "get ready" to let them in. (4 minutes before class would start was too early to show up!)..and child must be in tights, thus when coat is not covering legs...it's brutal cold. Not what I had in mind for a 4-5 year old.) I like accountable and courteous. This place was neither. My child deserves better.

I called the studio to cancel and the front desk answered with "hello," then hung up while I was in the middle of speaking. When I called back and explained that I had just been on the line, I was told there was "no reason to be unkind," even though I was simply explaining what had happened and repeating my request. When I asked how to cancel my HOTWORX membership, I was told it had to be done online or in person, but no instructions or link were provided when I asked where to go online. Questions about when management would be available also weren't clearly answered. After being a paying member for over a year and a half, the front desk interaction felt cold, rude, and dismissive. Because of the customer service alone, I cancelled my membership and will not reconsider returning. I have also reached out to management directly regarding this experience. Unfortunately, based on how this situation was handled, I would not recommend this HOTWORX location.
