Just want to say I have been dancing at the Dance Center for a number of years now and how lucky I…read morefeel to have a professional studio with teachers and a director who warmly welcome and appreciate adult dancers. The Wednesday morning class is a joy. The dancers are a nice mix ranging from students who danced as children, to others who more recently have realized an adult dream come true, college students earning degrees, people who seek an outstanding form of fitness, as well as active and retired dancers enjoying their craft. Altogether it is a healthy mix of upbeat, friendly, supportive people. When I am there, the problems of the world drop away. And when I leave, I feel exhilarated and ready for anything. Jeannie H.

At that time we tried to continue online classes and ended taking a year off and joining another dance school closer in proximity to us. By now having spent some time somewhere else and seeing the difference in performances and day to day, we had to come back. The quality of dance education is outstanding at Rock, with an excellent classical ballet program that they emphasize so your child has a proper foundation. Having the sister school in Philly is a bonus for the students exposure (optional field trips and shows to participate in with these dancers). Etienne and his staff do an excellent job creating a warm and positive environment for young impressionable students. I am a huge fan. Try a class and you'll feel the difference.

What was even more surprising is that the women teaching the class completely ignored my daughter and when I tried to talk to her after class to express my disappointment about the lack of discipline in the class, she refused to speak with me. To make matters worse, when I went to the school director, she was more concerned that I had broken their rule about parents observing the class than she was about establishing the appropriate level of discipline in the classroom. While the Rock School West may have at one point been a wonderful school, today they are a factory that ignores all but the best students.

I had done pretty thorough research online, and even called ahead that evening to make sure it would be OK if I came to the class--my scheduling made me unable to come before, but my evening cleared up and it was something I'd wanted to do for a while. The person I spoke with on the phone seemed excited to have a new student, and encouraged me to come. Online, it says $15 per class, and as someone pursuing a career in musical theater, I follow a tight budget, and that fit in with what I typically spend for dance classes elsewhere. When I got there, I filled out new student forms, and she tells me there's a $25 "tuition fee"...I tell her that this is news to me and it doesn't quite make sense in my case since this is the only class I can attend in the semester, and I had misunderstood and thought it was ok to "drop in", like at most adult dance classes. She insisted that it's a tuition based program, so I considered leaving, without doing the class. At that point, she said to do the class and we can figure it out after. Turns out her idea of "figuring it out" after was to just make me pay it. I left in tears (I know, it's a bit of an overreaction, but I just felt very blindsided and taken advantage of, especially considering I had checked online AND called ahead to avoid surprises like this)... overall, great class but a pretty terrible taste was left in my mouth by the administration.
